POPULARITY
2025 Show Notes Amendment: I love the setup we have here where on the first day of the month, we released our final ever TwoFer Tuesday, and now, here at the last day of the month, we re-release our first ever TwoFer Tuesday! It feels like a wonder twist on "bookends". As always when re-running early episodes, please excuse the atrocious production quality. One of my favorite things looking back on the early episodes of the show is how "different, yet the same" they are. From a sound quality perspective, the differences are night and day in every aspect. But in terms of show format and events, other than missing the now customary summary introduction, and the fact that they've gradually gotten longer over the years, it's the same darned show that it's always been. And what the early episodes lack in polish and finesse and technique and maturity, they somewhat make up for in youthful exuberance and wide-eyed optimism, and a simply innocent fun. You've heard the latest and greatest of TwoFer Tuesday this month, now hear the awkward first baby steps!....different....yet the same.... Lastly, I had toyed with the idea of doing three reruns this month - today's rerun, as well as the two highlighted April Fool's episodes: 2020's "Backtracks" (where all the tracks played in reverse), and 2024's "Parallels" (where all the tracks played over top of each other all at once). But I had procrastinated, and now it's the last day of the month, and it would simply obscene of me to upload three reruns in one day. So the compromise that I settled on was to include links to them here in the show notes, in case you wanted to revisit them (or perhaps experience them for the first time). So, here are the links, Backtracks first, then Parallels. In terms of production value, Backtracks is dramatically better than today's rerun, but also dramatically lesser than our current works, whereas Parallels is very close to our current level of production : https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e52-backtracks/ https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/ch-1-noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e83-parallels/ And now, the [otherwise unmodified] original episode shownotes! Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Today's broadcast is Episode 4 for TwoFer Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 on a program we're calling “TwoFer Tuesday, Vol. 1” Tracklist - Track#, Game, System, Composer, Track Names, Timestamp: 01: Intro - 00:00:00 02: ChipChan-Kick - PCFX - Yoshio Furakawa, Masahara Iwata, and Hitoshi Sakamoto a) Stage 1 - 00:01:46 b) Stage 4 - 00:05:00 03: Trickstyle - Dreamcast - Richard Beddow a) USA Race 1 - 00:07:04 b) USA Race 4 - 00:10:54 04: Alien 3 - SNES - Steve Collett a) Destroy the Eggs - 00:14:04 b) Collect Deliver and Steal - 00:15:11 05: Super Smash Bros Brawl - Wii a) Tunnel (X) - composed) Kazumi Totaka / arranged) Yusuke Takahama - 00:17:10 b) Marionation Gear - composed and arranged) Masafumi Takada - 00:20:08 06: LED Storm - C64 - Tim Follin a) Music 3 - 00:22:43 b) Name Entry - 00:25:13 07: Final Fantasy X - PS2 - Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzo, Junya Nakano a) Challenge - 00:27:58 b) People of the Far North - 00:30:45 08: Dick Tracy - Genesis - Takayuki Nakamura a) Train Yard - 00:32:55 b) Warehouse - 00:34:25 09: Ninja Gaiden 2 - NES - Ryuichi Nitta, Mayuko Okamura a) Stage 2-2 - 00:36:24 b) Stage 5-2 - 00:37:39 10: Lovely Planet - Multi Platform - Calum Bowen a) Lovely City - 00:38:58 b) Lovely Village - 00:41:32 11: Magician Lord - NEO GEO - Hiroyuki Shimizu, Yuka Watanabe, Hideki Yamamoto a) Stage 2 - 00:44:18 b) Stage 4 - 00:46:43 12: Zelda Twilight Princess - GC/Wii - Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota a) Twilight Palace (outside) - 00:48:29 b) After the Battle - 00:51:24 13: Psychosis - TG16 - Atsuhiro Motoyama a) 1st Cause - 00:53:40 b) 4th Cause - 00:54:58 14: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty (Dark Legend) - Multi - Seiichi Hamada a) Gong Shun Sheng - 00:56:46 b) Ruan Xian Wu - 00:59:18 15: Cosmic Carnage - 32X - Hikoshi Hashimoto a) Cylic (Heavy Armor) - 01:01:26 b) Zena Lan (Heavy Armor) - 01:03:34 16: Sims - PC - Jerry Martin a) Buying Lumber (Build 2) - 01:05:18 b) Martinis for Two (Latin 2) - 01:10:17 17: Outro - 01:16:42 Music Block Runtime: 01:14:58, Total Episode Runtime: 01:23:09 Our Intro and Outro Music is Funky Radio - Dreamcast - BB Rights If you wish to subscribe to the Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1 Music block podcast, there are two options: Option 1: Subscribe right here to the "Nerd Noise Radio Network - All Channels" podcast feed. Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1 episodes, and not in any of the other channels, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. If this is what you want instead, here's the RSS: http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss NOTE: This episode had to be trimmed for the “Channel 1” feed to make it and Episode 3 both fit within the two hour limit for the month. The shortened version is called “Episode 4a” (C1E4a), where the full-length version is simply called “Episode 4” (C1E4). Johnson wanted to leave the verdant world, but Brent was bound he'd have a look around. He did, and found a reason to stay–unluckily… Strange Eden by Philip K. Dick, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode. This is episode 100 of The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, which probably means more to us than it does to you. It's a significant milestone but we are just getting started. Another 5-star review on Apple Podcasts, written by goldfischegirl69, “My Favorite Bedtime Listen. My happy place is listening to these expertly narrated sci-fi stories every night before bed. They are so soothing and relaxing. I love the feeling of being transported to another world. So grateful for each and every episode. Thank you! ❤️” Well, goldfischegirl69 thank you! My happy place is reading excellent reviews from people like you. Even if you listen to us on YouTube or another podcast player you can go to Apple podcasts and leave a review. Your 5-star ratings and excellent reviews encourage others to check us out. Thanks in advance should you choose to leave us a review. If you listen on Spotify, please give us a 5-star rating, if you think we deserve it. So far, we have 68 5-star ratings on Spotify. Thank you! We decided to feature a Philip K. Dick story for our 100th episode because we began the podcast with PKD's The Hanging Stranger almost 19 months ago. We'll kick off our next 100 episodes with a double shot of Philip K. Dick in three days. Our story can be found in the December 1954 issue of Imagination Stories of Science and Fantasy. Brent only wanted to look around the planet; the trouble was, he looked too far! Turn to page 66 for Strange Eden by Philip K. Dick… Next week on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, a special Twofer Tuesday. A double shot of Philip K. Dick. A brave new world or was it the long way home–for these men. And, A hideous nightmare seemed the culture of Williamson's world–to men who knew nothing of beauty. Survey Team and Souvenir by Philip K. Dick. That's next week on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episodeSupport the show

The haunted house image used is by DaakSM on DeviantArt If you wish to subscribe to the "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" podcast - audio-only, there are two options: Option 1: Subscribe right here to the "Nerd Noise Radio Network - All Channels" podcast feed. Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Therefore it is STRONGLY recommended that you subscribe to this Nerd Noise Radio feed and bypass all others. This one will contain all their content anyway. Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1 ("Noise from the Hearts of Nerds") episodes, and not in any of the other content that is or will be offered by Nerd Noise Radio, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. It is STRONGLY recommended for most listeners to subscribe to the All-Channels feed instead. However, if you really are only interested in Channel 1 content, here's the RSS: http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss Our episodes will also appear on our Nerd Noise Radio YouTube Channel - just search for Nerd Noise Radio, you'll find us! Here's today's episode: https://youtu.be/hkJQ00bujQk Additionally, there are YouTube Playlists you can follow, both an "All Channels" Feed (recommended), as well as channel-specific feeds. You're old, but you're young ~ Smells Like Teen Spirit (3 October 2003 - Boston, MA) | Curtain Call (1 August 2014 - St Louis, MO)
May the Fourth be with you, Listeners! I -ALMOST- reran C1E9 "May the Fourth be With You" instead, which was our Star Wars game music focus. But this one was so much more relevant to imminently incoming new episodes, so I went with it instead. At the bottom of the comments, I'll include a link to C1E9, you'll get an informal "twofer" here. :-) Today's rerun is C1E44, originally released TwoFer Tuesday, May 7th, 2019. Today's Episode was TwoFer Tuesday - vol. 5. Amended 02/06/22 to include an all call for tracks for our upcoming "Best of 2020 / 2021" feature. The track list below has been amended to include updated timestamps and track numbers that account for the addition of the 2022 add-on. Note: I apologize for the poor audio quality on my voice in the 2022 earcactcher. I didn't have access to the studio and "the good mic" at the time, so I just did the best I could with my built-in laptop mic. Our second of two reruns for the month, and an episode that is easily in my top 20 episodes in show history, and possibly even in my top 15....or even top 10! It's a VERY early episode, so the production value on the intro and outro are TERRIBLE! The arrangement (track order), and production value of the music block is also not quite up to par with current episodes either, but fortunately, the quality vector on that front is much less profound than it is with the intros and outros. But most importantly, it is an episode where I got incredibly self-indulgent with my track selection choices, and therefore, it features a TON of pieces that are favorites of mine - hence why it ranks so high for me, and will likely still rank quite high when the show finally reaches episode 100 and comes to a complete end (current plans put that day all the way out into Dec 2026).And now, to the track list!Tracklist - Track#, Game, System, Composer, Track Names, Timestamp: 01: Intro - 00:00:00 02: ChipChan-Kick - PCFX - Yoshio Furakawa, Masahara Iwata, and Hitoshi Sakamoto a) Stage 1 - 00:01:46 b) Stage 4 - 00:05:00 03: Trickstyle - Dreamcast - Richard Beddow a) USA Race 1 - 00:07:04 b) USA Race 4 - 00:10:54 04: Alien 3 - SNES - Steve Collett a) Destroy the Eggs - 00:14:04 b) Collect Deliver and Steal - 00:15:11 05: Super Smash Bros Brawl - Wii a) Tunnel (X) - composed) Kazumi Totaka / arranged) Yusuke Takahama - 00:17:10 b) Marionation Gear - composed and arranged) Masafumi Takada - 00:20:08 06: LED Storm - C64 - Tim Follin a) Music 3 - 00:22:43 b) Name Entry - 00:25:13 07: Final Fantasy X - PS2 - Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzo, Junya Nakano a) Challenge - 00:27:58 b) People of the Far North - 00:30:45 08: Dick Tracy - Genesis - Takayuki Nakamura a) Train Yard - 00:32:55 b) Warehouse - 00:34:25 09: Ninja Gaiden 2 - NES - Ryuichi Nitta, Mayuko Okamura a) Stage 2-2 - 00:36:24 b) Stage 5-2 - 00:37:39 10: Lovely Planet - Multi Platform - Calum Bowen a) Lovely City - 00:38:58 b) Lovely Village - 00:41:32 11: Magician Lord - NEO GEO - Hiroyuki Shimizu, Yuka Watanabe, Hideki Yamamoto a) Stage 2 - 00:44:18 b) Stage 4 - 00:46:43 12: Zelda Twilight Princess - GC/Wii - Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota a) Twilight Palace (outside) - 00:48:29 b) After the Battle - 00:51:24 13: Psychosis - TG16 - Atsuhiro Motoyama a) 1st Cause - 00:53:40 b) 4th Cause - 00:54:58 14: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty (Dark Legend) - Multi - Seiichi Hamada a) Gong Shun Sheng - 00:56:46 b) Ruan Xian Wu - 00:59:18 15: Cosmic Carnage - 32X - Hikoshi Hashimoto a) Cylic (Heavy Armor) - 01:01:26 b) Zena Lan (Heavy Armor) - 01:03:34 16: Sims - PC - Jerry Martin a) Buying Lumber (Build 2) - 01:05:18 b) Martinis for Two (Latin 2) - 01:10:17 17: Outro - 01:16:42 Music Block Runtime: 01:14:58, Total Episode Runtime: 01:23:09 Our Intro and Outro Music is Funky Radio - Dreamcast - BB Rights

SPECIAL NOTE TO RERUNS FEED LISTENER: I owe you a tremendous apology! I usually schedule reruns ahead of time a month or two ahead, and so, there exists the possibility that I'll get confused on whether or not I have done so for a given month, and miss one. To make up for that, and since today's episode is a very special occasion, I figured I'd do something special and share something that's not a rerun, but an actual fresh episode! Today's [all-new] episode is a 40th birthday celebration of a listener, and someone very important to me: my brother, Jesse! Enjoy! Also, since Buzzsprout character limits for episode descriptions are so restrictive, the tracklist by itself without any notes exceeds it. Therefore, I'll have to resort to attaching it as a Google Docs link. You can find that link here:https://docs.google.com/document/d/190vQT3p3zkxWudP0_aelkuiXGPaI_U0zyHXOW3lVww4/edit?usp=sharingHowever, so that you at least have clickable timestamps, here's just a "Track 1" style generic list with timestamps:Intro - 00:00:00Track 01 - 00:04:11Track 02 - 00:06:21Track 03 - 00:08:21Track 04 - 00:10:13Track 05 - 00:12:08Track 06 - 00:16:05Track 07 - 00:18:27Track 08 - 00:19:08Track 09 - 00:20:54Track 10 - 00:22:23Track 11 - 00:24:22Track 12 - 00:25:52Track 13 - 00:27:13Track 14 - 00:30:23Track 15 - 00:31:47Track 16 - 00:36:26Track 17 - 00:39:37Track 18 - 00:41:44Track 19 - 00:44:46Track 20 - 00:46:05Track 21 - 00:47:09Track 22 - 00:47:48Track 23 - 00:49:38Track 24 - 00:51:42Track 25 - 00:53:48Track 26 - 00:56:57Track 27 - 00:59:45Track 28 - 01:03:29Track 29 - 01:06:16Track 30 - 01:08:07Track 31 - 01:11:50Track 32 - 01:14:33Track 33 - 01:17:48Track 34 - 01:19:30Track 35 - 01:21:28Track 36 - 01:23:06Track 37 - 01:25:03Track 38 - 01:27:41Track 39 - 01:30:58Track 40 - 01:33:53Outro - 01:37:25Bonus - 01:53:57Lastly, I think I'll also do something special for you next month. Today's Rerun is C1E15: "Welcome to the Disc Level Disc Level" - our first ever "Super Sized Episode" back before they all were, AND our first ever "Nerd Noise Cross Over" marrying the concepts of a "Theme Thursday" (Sega CD Music) with a "TwoFer Tuesday" (two pieces per game) - only I totally cheated with Sonic CD at the end, treating JP/EU-only, NA-only, and universal musics as separate "twofers" resulting in this episode going out on a six track, Sonic CD "blue wave". :-) Enjoy! The link to the list of eligible tracks for "Best of 2019" can be found here: https://archive.org/details/nerd-noise-radio-best-of-2019-eligible-track-list-simplified Reminders: Deadline for track submission is September 30th! Also, if you do submit tracks, please remember to indicate whether you wish to lend your voice to recording the intro and outro, or if you just want to submit tracks. Either answer is fine, but please do let me know. Lastly, while submissions longer than five tracks are VERY welcome, if you're going to do so, maybe break it into "must make it" tracks (max five), and "would be nice if" tracks, so I know what to prioritize, and also have flexibility between many contributors or few. Production notes: Music Block originally produced Sept 4th, 2018 in macOS via GarageBand Intro/Outro/Final Production: August 2nd, 2020 in Linux via Ardour 6 / Audacity. To date, this episode is the record holder for the longest gap in time between music block production and music block release. VERY NEARLY 2 YEARS! However, there are at least two more music blocks I have in reserve which will exceed this length by the time I am able to release them. So, when all is said and done, this episode will not remain the record holder forever. Episode 388: Twofer Tuesday
With today's rerun, I wanted to provide the listener with a taste of "normalcy". We haven't had a truly "normal" episode since at least C1E48 (October 2018), and arguably.....not since this episode first released almost exactly one year ago. It's been a wonderful year for the show in terms of innovative, ambitious, and quality output. But it's been a terrible year for the show in terms of giving newcomers an idea of what to expect from it. So let's get back to center with today's Rerun: C1E44: TwoFer Tuesday - vol 5. For the newcomers, a "TwoFer Tuesday" is a free play (no theme), but in pairs. So, two pieces from each game. This is our most recent TwoFer Tuesday episode. Also, over on our secondary "dedicated reruns feed"....unsurprisingly called "Nerd Noise Radio Reruns", I am sharing our very first TwoFer Tuesday - C1E4, all the way back from February 2017. Not only are both well known and beloved episodes, both both episodes saw heavy feature in our recent Backtracks series. But most of all, I wanted to be able to use the two episodes to demonstrate the paradox of how very much, and yet how very little the show has moved in its time. On how much we've improved - especially in terms of intro/outro production, and yet, just how true to ourselves we have remained. I feel like these two are separated by a "paper thin grand canyon", the tiniest of differences......the hugest of differences. I hope you'll enjoy both! Here's the link to that rerun: https://www.buzzsprout.com/episodes/3725261 Thanks so much for listening, and as always....wherever you are....Fly the N!!! It is STRONGLY recommended for most listeners to subscribe to the All-Channels feed instead. This week, I'm joined by 4/7 of Ready Freddies (John, Christine, Ann Marie and Amy), a Queen tribute band comprised of A-list Chicago musicians. We got tacos from El Primo Chuki's on Lawrence and talked about: The band's Halloween show at Martyr's The impending release of the Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" Strategy for ordering tacos for a large group The similarities between Lawrence Avenue and Beirut Why did they start a Queen tribute band? How did John end up in an all-female tribute? The Queen-related "Twofer Tuesday" issue I had at the Loop John's adolescent fantasy made real GTR Guitars gets a quick shout-out!

And wherever you are - Fly the N! Cheers! *= Track is listed in the episode (and was originally listed in the show notes) as "Snaking Pass". Actually, Snaking Pass WAS used in the original draft of the tracklist - so it actually was right originally, but I swapped it out for Mount Ices, as I felt that track worked better in the context of the playlist. I will feature Snaking Pass eventually in a future episode. As I said, this mistake dawned on me too late to feasibly reproduce and re-upload the episode, so I'm just leaving the mistake in there. Hopefully, it'll go down in NNR Lore as something we all smile and chuckle about later. Just know that I did catch the mistake on my own, and didn't have to experience the embarrassment of getting called out on it in the comments later on. Now, perhaps, someone who didn't read the show notes, but did listen to the episode will, in fact, take to the comments section to set me aright. And if this happens, I'll just steer them back to these notes. :-) Cheers!

Special Announcement about "Super-Sized Episodes" - Episode 15, Episode 16, and so on. VERY IMPORTANT (PLEASE READ!!!!): I KNEW I was going to forget something! I also wanted to talk about "Nerd Noise Radio Crossovers" episodes. So, all Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1 episodes fall under one of seven types of episodes: 1) “Scene Sunday" episodes (chiptunes, covers, remixes, non-VGM intersections - all things that are NOT video game music per se, but relate very closely to it. 2) “Mishmash Monday” episodes (free-play) 3) “TwoFer Tuesday” episodes (free-play, but in pairs) 4) “Wayback Wednesday” episodes (greatest hits, retrospectives, and re-runs) 5) “Theme Thursday” episodes (music of a common genre, series, system, composer….you name it, just some kind of common theme that binds all included tracks together) 6) “FaceOff Friday” episodes (presenting one or more version of each track, and asking you to pick a winner and finally 7) “Soundtrack Saturday” episodes (I trust this one requires no explanation). And of course, whatever type of episode it is is also what day of the week that episode releases. Well, "Nerd Noise Radio Crossover" episodes are episodes that "merge" or "fuse" two or more of the above into a "hybrid focus" episode. Such as a "TwoFer Theme Thursday", or a "Soundtrack FaceOff", or what have you. So that they don't get out of hand, we'll probably only do one or maaaaaaybe two of these a year. But the reason I wanted to mention it now is because not only will our next episode, Episode 15 be our first ever "Super-Sized" Episode, but it will also be our first ever "Crossover" episode as well - specifically, a "TwoFer Theme Thursday". So, be ready for that! :-) Also, one last thing: this was the first thing NNR related that I did where I did not use a script to record. I thought about editing out the "ums" and the pauses, but thought, nah, this is a great piece of "John starting out", so that when Channel 2 launches, and I'm doing a lot more talking, we'll be able to compare me then to me now - and hopefully I'll have improved a lot. This rough audio may well be a very valuable (and heart warming) thing for me to have as cross-reference material later. So, enjoy (or at least endure) the "ums" and pauses. They’re for posterity! :-) Cheers!
