In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") return to discuss what appears to be the end of USC's search for a defensive coordinator with former TCU head coach Gary Patterson being the only name we have been hearing for the past week. This is an extremely important hire for head coach Lincoln Riley and the guys talk about the latest they are hearing about the search, how likely it is that Patterson gets hired and when it could be announced. The guys also discuss the breaking news that secondary coach Doug Belk will not being a part of this defensive staff going forward. His name came up as a potential candidate during the search, but as it became more likely that Patterson was the direction USC was going it seemed less and less likely that Belk would be sticking around. They finish up talking about the closing of the NCAA Transfer Portal, Mike Ekeler officially joining the staff as special teams coordinator plus what Indiana winning the national championship means for college football, the Big Ten and USC. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") return to talk about the USC football team finishing off its 2026 Transfer Portal class with the addition of former Wisconsin tight end Tucker Ashcraft. The 6-foot-5, 257 pound tight end signed with USC Wednesday after playing 16 games for Wisconsin over the last two seasons with six starts. He has 22 career catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns. The portal window closes on Friday and there are no more additions expected by the Trojans for this cycle following the massive No. 1 ranked high school recruiting class that was brought in back in December. The guys also give their thoughts on the ongoing search for the next USC defensive coordinator, with the name of former TCU head coach Gary Patterson coming up in more conversations as of late. Head coach Lincoln Riley wasn't in a hurry to make the hire, and with only one day left for players to enter the portal it is looking more and more likely that the hire will come after that portal window closes. They finish up discussing what Ryan saw in Hawaii at the early Polynesian Bowl practices that unfortunately did not include the five Trojans signees that had accepted invitations to the game. Those players will show off their skills for the Poly Bowl game on Friday, but as new college students they just stuck around USC a little longer before making their way to Hawaii. The University of Southern California received thousands of calls, emails and letters in 2001, after hiring former NFL coach, Pete Carroll, to resurrect its moribund program. Carroll was a "failure," a "fraud," and a "flake" according to USC boosters, the fans in Los Angeles and the college football cognoscenti. But by the middle of the decade, he had turned USC into a legendary juggernaut, with multiple Heisman Trophy winners and national championships. In Men of Troy, Monte Burke, provides the definitive account of this singular dynasty, based on original reporting and more than 150 new interviews. Burke illustrates how Carroll and his colorful cast of coaches and players-including cross-eyed quarterback turned national heartthrob, Matt Leinart, and the electric, generational running back, Reggie Bush-not only took over college football, but Los Angeles and the country, as well.Burke not only takes readers through the iconic games of the era, but also behind the scenes-in the locker room, on the recruiting trail and into the LA nightlife scene, where the players enjoyed their celebrity status and, at times, succumbed to illicit temptations. He also puts the dynasty in proper context, tracing the breathtaking rise of the program, the sudden and inglorious fall, and the scandal that left a program in ruins and precipitated the drastic changes that led to the current era of college football.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

The crew talks about some of the names that have come up and when they feel this search will finally conclude. The NCAA Transfer Portal has been open for five days and the action has been hot and heavy, including a high profile Big Ten quarterback that signed a deal to stay put and then entered the portal a few days later. The crew talks about which Trojan football players have decided to look elsewhere and which players are making Los Angeles their new home. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing a variety of topics concerning the USC football program, starting with an extremely disappointing loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. The Trojans fell 30-27 in overtime, blowing a 10-point fourth quarter lead and an opportunity to finish the 2025 college football season with double-digit wins. Coach gives his thoughts on the performance, all of the players that decided to opt-out of the game and what that means for the program going forward plus defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn not calling plays at the very last minute. The guys also talk about Lincoln Riley's search to replace Lynn and potentially other defensive coaches on the staff. With the NCAA Transfer Portal window open, it would be behoove Riley to have the leader of his defense in place to try and keep players on the roster and add guys from other teams. Speaking of the portal, they also discuss some of the players that have entered and a couple of the new commits that have announced they are transferring to USC. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") are coming together for a special Christmas Eve edition of the Peristyle Podcast, talking about historic rivalry between USC and Notre Dame being paused. After the news broke on Monday that the Trojans and the Fighting Irish wouldn't be playing for the foreseeable future, the reactions came in from all across the college football landscape. Reaction from the Trojan family has been mixed, with strong opinions on both sides. We have heard from former players and long-time fans that hate that the series isn't going to continue. We also heard from other fans and major media personalities that feel it is in USC's best interest to drop the game and focus on the Big Ten schedule and making the College Football Playoffs. Coach is not happy that this game won't be played next season and he feels that all of the USC football legends that made their name by playing against the Fighting Irish over the years feel the same way. The guys also talk about some of the players that will not be available to play for the Trojans against TCU in the Alamo Bowl, including wide receivers Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane, linebacker Eric Gentry, tight end Lake McRee and safety Kamari Ramsey. They also discuss defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn potentially leaving USC for Penn State and what Coach Hyde wants to see head coach Lincoln Riley do about that. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio talking about the Trojans bowl bid, facing off against the TCU Horned Frogs in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Sitting at 9-3, USC has an opportunity for a double-digit win total with a win over the Frogs in San Antonio. Over the past two seasons, the Trojans have utilized the extra 15 bowl practices well, developing some of the younger players on the roster and bringing home bowl victories to help kickstart the following season. The crew also discusses the off-season roster movement, with players entering the portal and the No. 1 recruiting class waiting in the wings. They also speculate on which players will be available for the Alamo Bowl and which are likely to opt out. With rival Notre Dame making headlines after being left out of the College Football Playoffs and opting out of a bowl game, the team discusses the Fighting Irish's place in the college football landscape and if their fallout with the ACC could impact the future of the rivalry. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans accepting a bid to play in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on December 30, taking on the 8-4 TCU Horned Frogs from the Big 12 Conference. Coach Hyde discusses why playing in these bowl games is important for the development of the team, even though he wanted the Trojans to take on a higher ranked opponent following the 9-3 season. The guys also discuss how head coach Lincoln Riley was able to secure the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the country, holding off a late push by Oregon, and why this was such an important development for this Trojan football program that is trying to get back to elite status. Coach feels USC should be in the upper echelon of high school recruiting each and every season, and this 2026 class is a great way to get the ball rolling in that direction again. They also take a look at some of the USC football players that declared they will be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in January and what sort of impact those departures could have. They give their thoughts on the College Football Playoff field including rival Notre Dame being left out and coach talks about why he feels it was a bad move for the Irish to skip out on a bowl game. How does this year's recruiting class for Oregon compare to years past? Will they just keep getting more and more five star players each season?
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio following USC's 29-10 victory over crosstown rival UCLA, putting the finishing touches on a 9-3 season. It went by extremely fast and now head coach Lincoln Riley and company can focus on roster retention, player acquisition all while preparing for an undetermined post season game. Speaking of player acquisition, Wednesday marks the first day of the Early Signing Period and the Trojans are holding on to the No. 1 ranked high school recruiting class for 2026. The crew talks about USC's recruiting haul and all of the players that decided to sign early. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") are back in studio recapping USC's 29-10 victory over UCLA, capping a 9-3 season for the Men of Troy and a likely trip to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl and an opportunity to win 10 games. With star wide receivers Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane suspended for the first quarter for violating team rules, the offense struggled in the first half and only managed to put one touchdown on the board. Things picked up in the second half for USC, with the offense putting up points and the defense pitching another shutout, dashing UCLA's hopes of an upset bid in the Battle for Los Angeles. The guys breaks down the game, talking about how missing the top-2 receivers set the offense back in the first half and some of the defensive struggles that led to the Bruins taking the lead in a game for the first time in 40 days. After halftime quarterback Jayden Maiava settled in and found his two stars, Lemon for a 32-yard touchdown and Lane on a couple of crucial drive-extending catches. King Miller also ran well, finishing with 124 yards rushing, 42 receiving and two total touchdowns, earning him USC's player of the game. Finishing the regular season 9-3 is better than most expected, but in some ways it still feels like a disappointment with the opportunity to make the College Football Playoffs just a missed field goal at Illinois away. The guys take a look at the season as a whole and discuss why Lincoln Riley said this campaign was an important springboard towards the future success of this Trojan football team. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio following USC's disappointing 42-27 loss at Oregon, knocking the Trojans out of the College Football Playoff picture. The loss only dropped SC two spots in the latest CFP top-25 rankings, but with three losses there is essentially no chance to climb up into the top-11 to secure one of the at-large spots. The Trojans will wrap up the regular season with an opportunity to go 9-3, facing off against crosstown rival UCLA in the Coliseum Saturday afternoon. The Bruins started the season looking like the worst team in the country, fired head coach DeShaun Foster, named Tim Skipper as the interim head coach, fired offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri, named Jerry Neuheisel as the play caller and then did the impossible, beat No. 7 Penn State. The Bruins went on to beat Michigan State and Maryland, then came crashing back down to earth, losing the last four games by a combined 129 points. The crew gives their thoughts on the concerns coming out of the Oregon game, the potential for overlooking the Bruins, where the team is health wise and Lincoln Riley's future with the USC football program. With the playoffs off the table, they also discuss which bowl games are the most likely and who some of the potential opponents could be. Why do football fans still complain about Oregon's connection to Nike when players and coaches have worked their butts off for the last 30 years to build the program up to this level?
In Hour 1, Isaac and Suke react to Oregon's 42-27 win over USC last weekend, try to figure out if the Trojans can lift their program back to being among the college football elites, and more.

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans falling well short on the road against the Ducks, with a disappointing performance that included far too many self inflicted wounds. Coach feels that USC had enough talent on the team to win the game, but too often the players and coaches beat themselves. He felt both sides made plenty of mistakes and for the Trojans, you can't do that when you are playing a great football team. USC needed to play its best game and take advantage of Oregon's weaknesses and that simply didn't happen. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping USC's 42-27 loss to Oregon, knocking the Trojans out of the College Football Playoff picture. Facing the No. 7 ranked Ducks, the No. 15 Trojans needed to play a clean game in Autzen Stadium and unfortunately it was anything but from Lincoln Riley and company. Major special teams blunders, including a leaping penalty on a punt and punt return for a touchdown, put points directly on the board for Oregon and that was simply too much for the Trojans to overcome. The crew breaks down the game, discussing what went right for the Men of Troy and what went wrong, and how the Ducks provided a real opportunity for an upset with some sloppy play of their own. Offensively USC put up 100 more passing yards than any of Oregon's opponents this season, but Jayden Maiava did have two costly interceptions and the run game was essentially non existent. Defensively USC played better in the second half but just couldn't get enough stops to slow down the Ducks potent offense. Special teams was an absolute disaster, starting with a kickoff out of bounds, a kick catch interference call, leaping that took away a USC stop and led to a Ducks touchdown, giving up a punt return for a touchdown and then a missed short field goal. At a minimum that cost USC 17 points in a game it lost by 15. Despite the loss, the potential for 10 wins is still a major improvement over last season, but being unable to pull off a win in any of the three toughest road games is a tough pill to swallow for the Trojans. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio previewing a massive matchup between No. 15 USC and No. 7 Oregon with ESPN College Gameday on hand and a potential berth in the College Football Playoffs on the line. The Trojans and the Ducks know each other well from the Pac-10/Pac-12 days and the two programs often go head-to-head for some of the top recruiting prospects on the West Coast. The crew gives updates on USC's injury situation, with the Trojans potentially down multiple starters on this trip to the Pacific Northwest. In Hour 2, Isaac and Suke talk to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning about the Ducks game versus USC this weekend, lament at the lack of premiere matchups in the Big Ten this season, and more.
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") are back in studio following USC's hard-fought 26-21 come from behind victory over Iowa, keeping the Trojans hopes of a College Football Playoff berth alive. The Men of Troy did not come out of the contest unscathed, losing starting left tackle Elijah Paige and starting safeties Kamari Ramsey and Bishop Fitzgerald to injuries during the game. Next up, No. 15 USC goes back on the road for the last time in the regular season, taking on No. 7 Oregon with ESPN's College Gameday on campus for the huge matchup. The crew gives some of their takes from the win over the Hawkeyes, including head coach Lincoln Riley calling it a "culture win," showing that this Trojans squad is tough enough to play gritty games in the Big Ten. They also have an update on the injury situation, discussing which star players will be able to contribute in this massive matchup in Eugene. While a spot in the field of 12 to determine the national champion is on the line, there is even more at stake when USC and Oregon clash. There is also the recruiting side of this rivalry, with the Ducks pushing into Southern California for top prospects and the Trojans showing they are taking things seriously and can defend their home turf on the recruiting trail. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans second half surge against Iowa Saturday afternoon in a soggy Coliseum. After falling behind 21-7 in the first half, USC's offense came to life and the defense shut down the Hawkeyes en route to a hard-fought 26-21 victory that keeps the dream of a College Football Playoffs berth alive. Coach Hyde talks about how this team was able to "Fight On" through adversity, falling behind early in the game and dealing with miserable weather conditions that suited the visitor much more than the home team. Sitting at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play, USC has a huge opportunity heading to Oregon this weekend with College Gameday and the entire country watching. Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping the Trojans 26-21 come from behind victory over the Hawkeyes in a stormy Coliseum. The weather favored the visitors, with heavy rains bogging down the playing surface and adding extra challenges to the passing attacks. Iowa jumped out to an early lead, surprisingly through the air, and kept USC off-balance for most of the first half. Head coach Lincoln Riley and his squad got things right in the second half, shutting down the Hawkeyes on offense and utilizing wide receivers Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane, allowing USC to overcome Riley's largest halftime deficit in the Coliseum. Connor and Riley have finally dried out and talk about their experiences in a rare rain game in the Coliseum and how the Trojans fought through adversity, showed some toughness and grit and delivered what Riley called a "culture win" for USC. The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the strong start of the 2025-26 season for the Trojans' men and women's basketball programs, including a top 10 win on the East Coast for the Women of Troy. Shotgun and Connor talk about the outstanding comeback victory over No. 9 North Carolina State in Charlotte that saw the USC women score the final eight points of the game, closing out the game with four minutes of scoreless defense and a game-winning bucket from freshman Jazzy Davidson with 8.2 seconds remaining. The podcasting duo also take a look at the USC men getting a pair of blowout wins that saw three different players score 20+ points in the season opener against Cal Poly and seven different players score in double figures while putting up 114 points -- most since scoring 117 points against Arizona State in 1998 -- in a victory over Manhattan. Shotgun and Connor break down all four of the games with their patented Triple-Double segment. After a break, they look at where the two programs stand after the first week of the season and look forward to some intriguing matchups this weekend with the men taking on Illinois State in the Intuit Dome in a multi-team event and the women facing off Dawn Staley's No. 2 South Carolina squad in Crypto.com Arena in what could be a second- or third-weekend NCAA tournament preview. The USC Triple-Double concludes with a look at the signing classes for each program as the Women of Troy signed the No. 1 player in the nation for the third time in four years and one of the top international players while Eric Musselman's staff went twinning, signing the sons of a former NBA elite rim protector. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio following USC's victory over Northwestern on Friday night in the Coliseum, with the Trojans pouring it on in the second half. The victory was an important one where the offense got back on track and the defense for the second week in a row played much better in the third and fourth quarters. Sitting at 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten play, USC is set up for a run at the College Football Playoffs if it can win the final three games on the schedule. First up on that run for a playoff berth is Iowa, coming up a last-second loss at home to Oregon. The Hawkeyes want to slow the game down, play defense and make some plays on special teams while the Trojans like to open things up and make big plays up and down the field. It will be a clash of styles in the Coliseum with a higher spot in the Big Ten hierarchy on the line. The crew gives their thoughts on how the team performed against Northwestern and looks ahead to the showdown with Iowa. Can the Trojans build off the past two B1G victories and take down a Hawkeyes squad that doesn't make many mistakes and takes advantage of any mistakes their opponents make? On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping what was another impressive performance in the Coliseum, a 38-17 victory over Northwestern on Friday night. The Trojans and Wildcats were close in the first half, but an amazing defensive play by Jayden Maiava gave USC new life and sparked a 14-point swing. In the second half the Trojan defense took over, allowing only a lone field goal after the break. The crew gives their thoughts on the Trojan offense getting things rolling again, with Jayden Maiava back to his old form, King Miller rushing for over 100-yards in his first Coliseum start and Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane both bringing their 'A' games. On the defensive side, it was a rough start after Northwestern scored touchdowns on its first two drives, but after that the USC defense was able to tighten up and keep the Wildcats out of the end zone, only allowing 3 points the rest of the way. They also discuss where the 7-2 (5-1) Trojans are in the Big Ten standings, with a legitimate shot at the College Football Playoffs if they can win out. The road gets tougher over the next couple of weeks, with a tough Iowa squad coming to the Coliseum followed by a difficult road trip to Eugene to take on the No. 9 Oregon Ducks. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans taking care of business Friday night against Northwestern, winning 38-17 thanks to big nights by Jayden Maiava, King Miller and Makai Lemon plus the defense locking things down in the second half. Coach Hyde likes what he saw from the offense, bouncing back after the struggles in Lincoln by Maiava and the passing game. Coach sees what Riley is doing on offense now and he feels he likes the path Riley is trying to navigate heading into the final stretch of the season. Maiava also showed a lot of fight and Coach likes what he is doing on and off the field as a leader of the team. On the defensive side this is the second week in a row that coordinator D'Anton Lynn has made adjustments at halftime and tightened things up after the break, giving up just 3 points in each of the last two games. They also talk about where USC is in the Big Ten hierarchy, where Coach thinks the Trojans talent level lines up and the conference looking into the fake punt that had quarterback Sam Huard wear the same number as the punter, helping to disguise the play. Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio previewing an important Fright night home contest against Northwestern. Lead by head coach David Braun, the upstart Wildcats are 5-3 (3-2 in Big Ten play) and had one four-straight games before falling in a close one to Nebraska. The Trojans are coming off a late night win in Lincoln and have a short week to prepare for Northwestern, a program travelling a couple thousand miles to Los Angeles but is also fully rested after a bye week. USC leads the series 5-0 with the last meeting being the 1995 Rose Bowl, a game the Trojans won 41-32. The crew takes a look at some of the key matchups in the game and talk about some of the similarities between the Wildcats and the Cornhuskers. Northwestern has a very effective run game like Nebraska, and both programs excel in pass defense. We saw what the Huskers were able to do to Jayden Maiava, but will the Wildcats be able to do something similar? They also discuss some of the rumors circling around head coach Lincoln Riley regarding the ever turning college football coaching carousel, what it means for the USC/Notre Dame series with the Irish scheduling a home and home with Auburn and the Trojans No. 19 ranking in the college football playoff rankings. The Trojans couldn't get the passing game going in Lincoln, but the run game and the defense kept the game within reach before Jayden Maiava could get things rolling with his legs. The 21-17 comeback victory was an important result, keeping the Trojans alive in the race for the College Football Playoffs heading into the final stretch of the season.
