A Queensland coroner has found that the three members of the Train family behind the 2022 Wieambilla shootings were not terrorists, but instead killed two police officers and a neighbour due to their shared ‘persecutory' delusions. Queensland state reporter Andrew Messenger speaks to Reged Ahmad about the coroner's findings into what happened that day and whether anything could have been done to prevent it
Weeks out from the third anniversary of the Wieambilla shootings, the State Coroner hands down his report - finding the actions of the Trains on 12 December, 2022 was not a ‘terrorist act’. Some, but not all, of the key issues raised in the inquest are addressed in the Coroner's 10 recommendations - including drones for regional police, mandatory mental health checks for gun licences, intelligence sharing and training for triple 0 call operators. The McCrow and Arnold families voice their disappointment at the findings and recommendations. They pledge to continue to channel their grief into bringing about systemic changes.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As you all know, I am a lizard, and through the power of 5G and the implants which have been secretly inserted into you via chemtrails and the covid vaccine, or possibly by a UFOnaut which was probing you, I can control your mind.Well, no. Was the Wieambilla attack an act of terrorism? An expert in political and religious extremism dissects the evidence to address this question. He breaks down Gareth, Stacey & Nathaniel's radicalisation into five phases, highlighting their dramatic shift through the pandemic along with the part Donald Day Jr played in the rapid escalation of the Train's extremist religious beliefs. An inquest into the December 2022 Wieambilla police massacre has heard evidence the trio responsible – Gareth, Stacey and Nathaniel Train – would have been ruled morally insane and unfit to stand trial had they not been killed in a shootout. Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity is a legitimate legal defence in Australia and is thought to be used in as little as 1% of cases here. But what happens to those accused of some of the most serious crimes who escape jail time because of their mental fitness to stand trial? And can they ever be released back into society? The SERT commander lays out their mission to ‘isolate, contain and arrest', and their tactical approach, fearing the Trains would escape. When Gareth, Nathaniel and Stacey Train shot and killed two police officers and their neighbour at their remote property at Wieambilla in December 2022, the country was shocked. What could motivate these three people to plan and carry out such premeditated violence? As the days unfolded, and we heard about the lives of the killers, their motives gradually became clear – this was Australia's first case of Christian terrorism. Chilling evidence was played to the Coroners Court on the opening day of the coronial inquest into the Wieambilla massacre, unveiling the tragic moments that led to the deaths of officers Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold, and neighbour Alan Dare. Footage from police body cameras established a clear timeline of the ambush, capturing the unfolding tragedy - and the heroic actions of the four young officers - in real time. There was also emotional testimony from the victim's families, a joint statement made outside the court. The McCrow and Arnold families said there was “no escaping our devastating loss … the all-consuming grief … and the tears”.In this podcast episode, host Melissa Downes is joined by 9News court reporter Anna Rawlings to discuss the opening day's key details and the nine key questions Queensland state coroner Terry Ryan seeks to answer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A man has been arrested in the US over links to the deadly Wieambilla massacre almost a year ago, which saw two Queensland police constables and a civilian shot dead on a remote property. Their murderers; Gareth, Nathaniel and Stacey Train were killed in the resulting standoff with officers. Detectives will allege the Trains had been radicalised after discovering the idea of “premillennialism” - a belief system with roots in Christianity that predicts Jesus Christ will return to earth before the next millennium, sparking the end of times. In this extra episode of The Briefing, we take a look at premillennialism, and how an American came to be so influential to three Australians, resulting in three people being murdered.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

FBI agents have arrested a man in the US in connection to the Wieambilla police shooting, alleging he incited violence and sent “Christian end of days ideology” to extremists before the tragedy. A hotel on one of North Adelaide's best-known strips was quietly used to house “high risk” immigrant detainees for more than 18 months before one smashed a window and escaped – sending a nearby private school into lockdown. Victoria's public service has been sabotaged by a culture of fear and secrecy under Daniel Andrews, an alarming Ombudsman report has found. Fast food giant McDonald's has been hit with a $100m class action from current and former employees alleging they were forced to work before and after their rostered shifts for free. Still, we think this is a lot better than silence and excuses. And we have fun doing it. This week we are looking at a few stories. Crackers Kelly is found guilty of being a prat but narrowly escapes a conviction sadly. The vic libs get third place and celebrate because to them that's a good result. And Jack looks at Bibi Netanyahu's impending political doom with corruption charges and a general sense that the recent events are at least a little bit his fault. Jack dives into the murky waters of gun registries - some of which are still paper based - and a lack of rapid response in enquiries about firearms resulting in more than one police death in recent times. This is a good time to revisit Wieambilla as it's a year on. We look back at the first domestic terrorist attack in some time. Following this is the story of the year in the cooker space. Mark Mack is found to have perpetrated elder abuse in the pursuit of his mothers property. It's a dark story and one the Tinfoil Tales girls published in part on twitter. With their permission we have chosen some parts of the judgement to look at - it truly reveals him as a despicable character and as the TT girls have said - crickets from the movement. For the sake of the privacy of family we request you don't splash the judgement around if you find it. We obscured names intentionally. Enjoy!
A year after three people were killed in an ambush, the promised national gun register is tied up in bureaucracy and funding fights. Find out more about The Front podcast here. Queensland police say Nathaniel, Gareth and Stacey Train believed in premillennialism and that their attack on police officers in December was a religiously motivated terrorist attack. Jane Lee speaks with Deakin University's Josh Roose about why people are being drawn to these extremist beliefs and how the threat of terrorism in Australia is changing

Senator Colonel President-for-life Guru was arrested on his houseboat and his computers seized by cops. Oh no! But we kick of with a chat about the determination by Queensland police that Wieambilla was indeed a domestic terror incident which was religiously motivated. That's usually code for islamic - but this time, it's Christianity. A bit of a game changer. We look at 'Died Suddenly', carrying over from our recent rabbit hole on cookers in the MSM, we check in on this absurd concept and stick the boot into Stew Peters a bit. We end with Guru and his legal troubles. He doesn't seem to give a shit about his bail conditions and is flaunting the law as usual. Will this one actually land him in the hoosegow? Will be a while before we know. Enjoy!
It was 6.34pm on 12 December when Madelyn Train had the last contact she would ever have with the three people she considered her parents. Gareth Train texted her from his rural Queensland property saying people had been sent ‘to kill us'. By this stage, Nathaniel, Stacey and Gareth Train had shot dead constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow, and their neighbour, Alan Dare. By later that evening, the trio would also be dead. Today, Madelyn Train speaks to the Guardian's Nino Bucci about the ‘evil' actions of her parents and their spiral into the world of online rabbit holes and conspiracy theories
In This Episode It's an ACP Round Table! Join Weer'd, Erin, David, and Oddball as they exchange gifts and discuss these news stories: There was a mass shooting in Australia, despite all the stories saying this never happens. There was also a mass shooting in Canada, which they admit happens, but certainly not as much in America. In America there could have been a spree killing, but a brave armed citizen shot the attacker. The CDC colluded with anti-gun groups to scrub defensive gun uses from data. Injunctions against Oregon and California anti-gun laws were made. And... California Police are allowed to use lethal force with robots? Did you know that we have a Patreon?
