An inquest into the December 2022 Wieambilla police massacre has heard evidence the trio responsible – Gareth, Stacey and Nathaniel Train – would have been ruled morally insane and unfit to stand trial had they not been killed in a shootout. Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity is a legitimate legal defence in Australia and is thought to be used in as little as 1% of cases here.  But what happens to those accused of some of the most serious crimes who escape jail time because of their mental fitness to stand trial? And can they ever be released back into society?  On today's episode of The Briefing, Sacha Barbour Gatt speaks with criminal psychologist Tim Watson-Munro to learn more about what happens to the criminally insane in Australia.  Headlines: Majority of Palestinians fleeing Gaza have had visas refused to Australia  Stabbing victim identified as 11-year-old Australian girl NASA update on stuck astronauts Tassie mum gives birth on the toilet not knowing she was pregnant  Follow The Briefing:TikTok: @listnrnewsroomInstagram: @listnrnewsroom @thebriefingpodcast YouTube: @LiSTNRnewsroomFacebook: @LiSTNR Newsroom    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Still, we think this is a lot better than silence and excuses. And we have fun doing it. This week we are looking at a few stories. Crackers Kelly is found guilty of being a prat but narrowly escapes a conviction sadly. The vic libs get third place and celebrate because to them that's a good result. And Jack looks at Bibi Netanyahu's impending political doom with corruption charges and a general sense that the recent events are at least a little bit his fault. Jack dives into the murky waters of gun registries - some of which are still paper based - and a lack of rapid response in enquiries about firearms resulting in more than one police death in recent times. This is a good time to revisit Wieambilla as it's a year on. We look back at the first domestic terrorist attack in some time. Following this is the story of the year in the cooker space. Mark Mack is found to have perpetrated elder abuse in the pursuit of his mothers property. It's a dark story and one the Tinfoil Tales girls published in part on twitter. With their permission we have chosen some parts of the judgement to look at - it truly reveals him as a despicable character and as the TT girls have said - crickets from the movement. For the sake of the privacy of family we request you don't splash the judgement around if you find it. We obscured names intentionally. Enjoy!

Queensland police say the Wieambilla shooting is a terrorist attack motivated by premillennialism. Here's what that means Queensland police say Wieambilla shooting was 'a religiously motivated terrorist attack' Deputy Commissioner Linford said police had been investigating Stacey Train's diary, as well as the trio's texts, social media postings and 190 interviews. "What we've been able to glean from that information is that the Train family members subscribe to what we would call a broad Christian fundamentalist belief system, known as premillennialism," she said. Deputy Police Commissioner Linford said the trio saw police "as monsters and demons". She said the COVID pandemic, climate change, global conflicts and social disparity contributed to their belief in their system. "Whilst the behaviour was similar in some respect to sovereign citizens, we don't believe this was connected to a sovereign citizen ideology, we believe it's connected to the Christian extremist ideology," she said. "There was a belief that Christ will return to the Earth for 1,000 days, and provide peace and prosperity. "But it will be preceded by an era, or a period of time of tribulation, widespread destruction and suffering. "They started preparing for the end of days." Police are working with the FBI in the United States over people who commented on the Train's social media posts. She said, "Christian extremist ideology has been linked to other attacks in the world." This is just my opinion. We hope that we can have a fairly definitive take on it in a few weeks, but here's a few clarifying points with new information that came to light this week. We laugh at Monica Smit because she is an idiot, but also give credit where it's due for a recent win in court - with a judge recognising one of her health order violations may have been invalid. It appears that will hinge on Monica being a journalist. But is she? Probably not. A listener gives us a heads up on a Glew situation which might be very funny in the future. Soli Goodes is back in front of the courts and singing the praises of the Train family for gunning down cops because she is an awful human being. She doesn't look well though. Kinda feel sorry for her. And lastly Tom Sewell is looking at jail - but got bail! Why? I don't feel sorry for him at all. He is a piece of human garbage.

Please, Simeon, just use the wet wipes. You smell like pickled horseradish and yeast. In less funny news, we follow up on the Wieambilla incident that saw two police dead and a neighbour shot in the back and killed just for coming to see if everything was alright. Turns out Nathaniel isn't the angel he was played out to be and has already had a bit of a Rambo moment, ramming the border crossing between NSW and QLD in camo gear with a car full of guns. Luckily the cops weren't there and nobody really cared. Literally nobody cared - a local saw him unloading guns into floodwaters and didn't even get a call back. We also look at the dopey false flag narratives including the theory that the property was being acquired by gas comapnies for fracking. In the minds of cookers, this makes it completely reasonable to shoot your neighbour in the back. Pathetic. Kerryn Phelps puts her account of an adverse vaccine reaction in a submission to parliament which is picked up by the media and becomes the playtoy of the antivax movement and Pete hears about it but can't quite get past some beef he had with phelps about 7 years ago. An updated take on some of this is on the Patreon feed, and we may need to revist this story again as a lot has developed. Here - we discuss the fundamentals of the event. It's a mix of religion, radicalisation and violence. We look at the incident, and the participants, and unravel the horror that resulted in a suicide venture by a group of people completely radicalised by the internet and a feeling of vindication to murder police and civilians alike in a siege of their own making. We look at some of the earlier theories on telegram about 'false flags' and other nonsense and wonder how Oneegs is sleeping at the moment. Probably not well mate, a bit of this is on you champ. We still did Pete cause he joined twitter which is kinda funny but it's a bit of a sombre affair this one. Had to be done. Enjoy.

Local general-duties police officers formed a heavily armed “extraction team” to rescue their fallen colleagues, driving on to the Train family's western Darling Downs property in the vehicle of the trio's murdered neighbour while under fire. Devastated members of two small communities gathered in the Western Downs Region last night to honour three local heroes who were killed in a fatal ambush at a rural Wieambilla property on Monday. Cool beans. Thanks guys!-------------------------------------------This week on the overflow we look at the latest developments in the tragic incident in Queensland that saw two police and an innocent neighbour killed in a brutal shooting by some pilled shitheads. When the incident occurred a lot of people immediately thought it was sovcits, or cookers in general. They were right - but what unfolded was quite a story. A bloke that got off on killing pigs and watching his dogs fuck. A real piece of work. Here's some more post mortem of the events. Main episode also has a breakdown of this and will come soon - but patrons get this one hot cause it's unedited and ready to go - warts and all!

Two Australian police officers and an innocent bystander have been shot dead in an ambush at a Queensland property, in what's been described as an execution-style killing. Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold, aged 29 and 26, were following up on a missing persons report when three shooters - two men and a woman, dressed in camouflage, opened fire. It happened in the tiny town of Wieambilla - population about 100 - about 300km from Brisbane. Two other police officers managed to escape, both injured. A neighbour was also fatally shot. The three killers were shot during the siege. Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers talks through the details with Lisa Owen.

The rural Queensland town of Wieambilla is still in shock after two police officers and an innocent bystander who were killed in a calculated ambush. The police were sent to the property, which is situated in the quiet town about four hours west of Brisbane, for a routine welfare check Three people  ..two brothers and a woman armed and wearing camouflage gear, opened fire without warning. All three of them ended up dead, as did a neighbour, and the two young police constables. The mayor of Queensland's Western Downs region, Paul McVeigh, says the killings have numbed the community. The two officers who were killed have been identified as 29-year-old Constable Rachel McCrow, and 26-year-old Constable Matthew Arnold. The offenders lit a fire in an attempt to smoke out two surviving officers who had retreated. They were both taken to hospital. The fire caught the attention of a man now identified as 58-year-old Alan Dare, who was at a neighbouring property. He was killed when he tried to investigate the source of gun fire. Flags are flying at half-mast across Australia and tributes have been flowing for the two officers and the neighbour. While Western Downs, which has a population of around 3500, covers a vast area, its mayor says the community is tight-knit. Forensic officers are continuing to examine the crime scene. Investigations are also underway into the three perpetrators, with reports they harboured conspiracy theories about the police and the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.
