Jahrzehntelang waren unsere Eltern unsere Superhelden, und dann kommt der Tag, an dem wir feststellen, dass unsere Helden hier und da mal selber ein wenig Support gut gebrauchen könnten. Wie eine Laufmasche in einer 3-Euro-Strumpfhose fängt das mit dem Altwerden überraschend an, nimmt dann aber Fahrt auf und am Ende steht man unten ohne da. Und dass sich die Sache doch noch zum Guten wendet, ist relativ unwahrscheinlich. Dass Eltern irgendwann unsere Hilfe brauchen, das kann man ja im Prinzip schon früh einkalkulieren, aber wer setzt sich schon Mitte 20 mit Mama und Papa zusammen und verhandelt Patientenverfügungen und Erbschaftsangelegenheiten? „Du Papa, willst du eigentlich ins Heim?“ Schwierig. Wir haben uns mit Menschen getroffen, die bereits mittendrin stecken im Abenteuer Pflege - und diese Aufgabe wirklich beneidenswert gut auf die Kette kriegen. Mit allen Ups and Downs, die dazugehören. Seraphina Kalze ist Musikerin, Moderatorin, Witze-Influencerin und neuerdings auch Autorin. Guido Tschugg ist eine lebende Legende im deutschen Mountainbikesport, insbesondere in den Disziplinen Downhill und Fourcross. In den 2000er-Jahren erlangte er durch seine Erfolge in nationalen undinternationalen Wettkämpfen große Bekanntheit. Als mehrfacher deutscher Meister und Teilnehmer an Weltmeisterschaften zählt er zu den Pionieren des Mountainbikens in Deutschland. Besonders unvergesslich machte ihnseine Teilnahme an der Red Bull Rampage, als bislang einziger Deutscher. Trotz seines Ruhms sucht Tschugg immer wieder neue Herausforderungen, sei es auf dem Mountainbike oder exzessiv beim Motocross. Auch abseits der Rennstrecke hat er sich als kreativer Streckenbauer einen Namen gemacht und verbringt seine Zeit gerne auf dem Bagger, um neue Trails zu gestalten. Wenn er nicht gerade in den Bergen unterwegs ist, findet er Ruhe und Inspiration in seinem „Casa Tschugg“ in Finale. Seine Leidenschaft und sein unverwechselbarer Fahrstil prägen die Mountainbike-Szene nachhaltig. On this episode Nate and Garrett sit down and pretty much reminisce on the good ole days when we were still in hunting season. This hot weather, high priced gas, and off season is hitting us hard as usual. Just like every year, once turkey season ends we both can't wait to get back after the geese....but we still have to get through the summer first.

On episode 51 I sat down with Brandon Holder of FASST sports performance training. Brandon works with a wide variety of clientele, however, as you can see early on in the conversation he has a passion for working with youth clients and developing them through a sensible long term approach. Brandon shares his starting point for young clients and how isometrics provide a great starting point to provide postural references and sensible methods to advance TUT. Brandon shares that with " the population that he currently works with Load is the last progression." Brandon shares how he likes to isolate to integrate, we discuss how he utilizes different exercises such as wall lateral load and lift. By doing exercises such as this, Brandon gives young athletes a great reference point that is stable and allows for athletes to build proficient modes of movement before entering more dynamic and chaotic agilities or competitions. Most of the conversation centers around sleds and how they are an extremely useful and versatile tool. All training exist on a spectrum, sleds are no different. The sled spectrum places sled training on a spectrum with strength on one end and power on the other. Load and position influence Ground contacts and ground contacts are the most telling for if an exercise is more strength or power based. Sleds can be utilized for PAP effects as well as a method to contrast training. Sleds allow for users to produce force in vectors that traditional barbell based movements do not. Sleds allow for us to move in a horizontal vector, where as force production in traditional barbell based movements are more vertically based. Sleds can be utilized to build energy systems and used for lower intensity methods as well, they provide a good format for variance and a break from more traditional barbell based movements in training. Brandon shares how to utilize periodization for sled based movements and shares some of the rationales about why sled training is a timely, safe, and powerful method for in season strength development. We end the conversation by talking about speed development and Brandon shares some of the concepts that he utilizes to gamify and involve clients in everyday processes. Brandon shares how varied starts are good to provide a robust base of movement for younger clientele. Different variations may be more applicable to team based settings and allow for athletes to interact with a variety of angles for more effective displays of speed and power. Brandon shares how showing different athletes that he understands the need of their sport helps to garner buy in to the process. Overall this is a great conversation on the rationale for including sled work, whether you chose to integrate sled training for all the methods mentioned today or you only utilize some of the options, sleds are a valuable tool that athletes can easily benefit from. For episode twenty seven of Modern Outdoor Survival we talk about utility. Multitools, internet ultimate tools and survival tools which make lovely furniture....When preparing to go out and undertake any activity, it is wise to select your tools carefully, ensuring that they will get the job done and work with your mode of transportation and limitations such as space and weight. Multitools can be very tempting when walking a long way to your destination and carrying everything on your back. However choose carefully; there are many products now which are advertised as being capable of everything from cutting branches to removing wheel nuts to eating a steak. Some of these stand up to scrutiny and are adequate for several different jobs, but rarely are they as good as their dedicated to one job counterparts. It is also worthwhile practicing the use of any tools in a 'safe' environment, get used to the limitations and find workarounds to common issues. This will make usage in the field much more effective.
