Today's conversation is intended to encourage you to start to evaluate how connected you are to your body. Be inspired by this personal conversation about how healing from traumatic events is possible and realistically how it looks in life. Hear the personal story of Lindsay Yoakum, a student and yoga teacher who learned self-expression and healing through movement and yoga. This conversation isn't about fitness it's about healing from your past and learning how to disconnect from the head and get into the body. It is important to remember that everyone's experience is different and you need a safe space to process trauma or even learn to connect with your body again. Here are some of the things Lindsey shares with us today:Her personal story and events that led her to be disconnected from her body such as her history of disordered eating, family systems, and her sexualityThe event that led her to realize that her body didn't feel safe and the trauma responses her body was showing herHer coming out experience and the impact it had on feeling safe in her body and coming to terms with her sexualityLearning to use movement as a tool for healing not punishing Turning off the emotional faucetThe importance of having choiceThe importance of having a place to process thingsHealing is not a quick processHow to incorporate getting into your body with your favorite movement toolHer favorite fight, flight or freeze tools that help her in the moment to ground herselfAbout Lindsay:Lindsey's journey started about 8 years ago when she began recovery from an eating disorder that had consumed her teenage years and left her profoundly disconnected from her physical, emotional, and spiritual body. Movement has helped her learn that she is capable of staying in her body during moments of intensity or discomfort and it has taught her that she and her body are on the same team. Her teaching philosophy is to provide a safe and inclusive space designed to give students the freedom to come as they are, and to provide a safe and open dialogue of taking up space and using the breath and body to move through emotions while staying in the present moment. Rev. Kevin Yoakum, pastor of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Riverview, FL, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Romans 14. St. Paul writes, “One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables.” (v. 2) No, he's not talking about vegetarians! The Apostle is referring to those Christians who, for a variety of reasons, believed it was sinful to eat certain things. Some held that certain days were holier than others. Others felt that food used in pagan rituals was off-limits to Christians. In response to this, many in Rome felt free regarding these things were being judgmental toward these weaker Christians. In this episode, Pastors Booe and Yoakum meditate on St. Paul's teaching that Christians must not judge one another, but “pursue what makes for peace.” (v. 19)

Paul goes deep (but not out of the yard) with former Longhorn and pro baseball pitcher Randy Boone on playing at Texas, the mental game of baseball, the loaded Longhorn rosters he played on between 2004-2007, the psychological genius and wisdom of Augie Garrido, Paul's playful trash talking of baseball athletes, and Boone's evolution from self-taught small town kid from Yoakum to crafty professional veteran. Randy is a sharp and humble analyst of the game with a lot of insight into sports and an achievement mindset. Why did a young Randy pass on a ride to A&M for the hope of playing his way into a Texas scholarship? Would he still have chosen baseball if his skills were equal in football? Why do the Cuero Gobblers dishonor the Randy Boone statue in the Yoakum town square? Paul also gets some great minor league baseball stories out of him. Finally, the delicate subject of the Boone-Wadlington hitting challenge is broached. Both agree that the contest would likely end with Paul bruised and humiliated and the pride of the Lansing Lugnuts needing another arm surgery. I can't think of a better guest to kick off diversity and inclusion month than Remitly Chief Customer and People Officer Rene Yoakum. With more than 40 years in Big Tech, including 19 years at Microsoft alone, Rene is more than qualified to speak to our listeners about this crucial topic. According to Rene, diversity, equity and inclusion (or DEI) means making sure your workplace offers a broad set of thinking, lived experiences and people with different identities and cultural backgrounds. And it's not just about recruiting ethnic minorities. You have to make sure you have practices that allow diversity and inclusion to genuinely thrive in the workplace, in a manner that engages everyone from the employee to the customer. For those of you that may not know, Remitly is a money remittance service that helps immigrants send money back to their families and home community. They serve more than 5 million customers, with 17 send and 25 receive countries in their global portfolio. And, as if that wasn't impressive enough, the company can service up to 1 billion of the 7 billion people on the planet — either immigrants or the families from the developing countries they've come from.Tune in this week and hear us discuss everything from best practices for managing large-scale diversity programs to creating a corporate culture that thrives on inclusion and equality. And as far as where to start on DEI, we tackle that too. Here's a hint: “diverse recruiting is false advertising without also nurturing and growing a diverse employee experience.”Don't miss this one!

Taylor again takes the mic and goes iso on the first episode of the new year. The episode begins with some thoughts on the NCAA's official announcement of the tournament being held in the Indianapolis metro area. From there we bring in Palmer Yoakum to discuss Kentucky basketball, their struggles this year and where they go from here. Plus we get to hear about some behind the scenes moments in Big Blue Nation. After our interview, Texas is highlighted as the team of the week along with Iowa's rise back to the top five. The episode rounds out as we take a look at why Washington basketball is so bad and then look ahead to a few of the week's best matchups. Taylor ends the show with a hug for the listeners and reminds everyone that no man is a failure who has friends...and no podcast is a failure who has listeners. Happy New Year theatergoers!

In this video, I talk about an early 20th-century faith healer that many may have never heard of. While he wasn't very influential in the early Pentecostal movement, he was influenced by some of its early leaders, especially Charles Fox Parham. His name was Finis E, Yoakum. The feature article that I discuss is a 1909 article from the Los Angeles Times called "No Miracles Without Cash." http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join John B. deHaas and I as we take the Grand Circle Tour on the Disneyland Railroad! One of Disneyland's opening day attractions! Recorded on December 2, 2018. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. It’s time to take a gran circle tour of Disneyland on the Disneyland Railroad. Disneyland’s website says, “Embark on a relaxing 18-minute scenic journey aboard an authentic steam-powered train around Disneyland Park.” There are no age or height restrictions to ride the train and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being Slow, dark and loud. Before we climb aboard, here are five fast facts about the Disneyland Railroad. Before we begin our mountain climbing adventure, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds. 1. The Disneyland Railroad began operation on Disneyland’s opening day on July 17, 1955. In fact, Walt Disney himself pulled the train into Main Street Station that morning on his way to give the park’s opening dedication. 2. The Railroad features five restored steam locomotives named C.K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Ernest Marsh, Fred Gurley and the Ward Kimball, The first four are named after American locomotive legends, the fifth, the Ward Kimball, is named after the Disney animator who is credited for inspiring Walt Disney’s love of trains. The older locomotive, the Fred Gurly, was built in August of 1894. 3. One of the most anticipated parts of the Grand Circle Tour is the journey through the Grand Canyon and Primeval World Dioramas. The Grand Canyon diorama debuted in 1958 and features an amazing background mural painted by Delmer J. Yoakum that is 306 feet long and 34 feet tall. The Primeval world diorama opened in 1966 and features audio animatronic dinosaurs that were build for the Ford’s Magic Skyway attraction in the 1964 New York World’s Fair. 4. The Railroad features a special train car, the Lilly Belle, named after Walt Disney’s wife Lillian. It is the last remaining ‘opening day’ car that is still in service, albeit only occasionally. Guests can pay to ride in the car as part of the separately ticketed Gran Circle Tour. Sometimes the first 14 guests in line at Main Street Station when the park opens in the morning will get a chance to ride in it as well. 5. On January 11, 2016, the Disneyland Railroad closed for over a year to accommodate construction of Disneyland newest land, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. When the train resumed operation on July 29, 2017, the new line line had the trains making a left turn for the first time in the attraction’s history. Now let’s ride the Disneyland Railroad for a Grand Circle Tour of Disneyland. Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll give you our thoughts on this opening day attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we take a ride on the Disneyland Railroad. In episode 134 of the Get Published Podcast, Host and 13-Time Bestselling Author Paul G. Brodie interviews Jim Yoakum about his author journey and the importance of providing value when promoting your book on social media.
On this episode of The Barron Report, brought to you by Kabbage, we dive into Agricole Hospitality brands to see how they manage hiring and staff. In 2011, Ryan Pera and Morgan Weber teamed up to open Revival Market, a butcher shop inspired by City Meat Market in Yoakum. It has since evolved to become a full-service breakfast/lunch restaurant and butcher shop. The success of Revival prompted the duo to open Italian restaurant Coltivare, where Morgan developed the cocktail menu, in 2014. While building the spirits list and managing the bar program at Coltivare, Morgan's interest in bourbon continued to grow. Once he ran out of room for bourbon on the back bar at Coltivare, the idea for Eight Row Flint, aptly named after the variety of corn first used in American whiskey, was born. Eight Row Flint was named one of the best new bars in the country by Playboy in 2016.Now with 7 different brands under the Agricole Hospitality umbrella, Weber and Pera are starting to get a knack for building top quality teams. From constantly interviewing to patiently grooming their team, this organization has unlocked some key attributes of a successful brand. Listen along with the show notes below to see how you can start attracting top-quality candidates, too!
James Yoakum opened Cooper River Distillers in 2014 in the heart of Camden, New Jersey - just wanting to make good whiskies and rum. He and his team did just that, but they learned an important lesson along the way: size matters. They couldn't make enough whiskey and rum to meet the demand, but they also couldn't make enough money to expand the distillery. Faced with that dilemma, Yoakum decided to close the distillery with one final Kentucky Derby party on May 5, 2018.
