Customers are guests who have honored you with their patronage. Adding in special touches can show your gratitude in a way that earns their repeat business. Expanding your business does not mean you forfeit the ability to make changes in your community, Zingerman's is proof of this. Learn from a 19-year customer service veteran, Zingy leader, and Managing Partner at Zingerman's Roadhouse, Lisa Schultz. If you haven't had the pleasure of eating in a Zingerman's location and witnessing their hospitality first hand, listen to Lisa speak about the critical steps to Giving Great Service..Takeaways:  Hospitality means accommodating your guests to make their experience unique and special, while providing consistently great service and quality food. Consistency is essential because the guest should know what level of service to expect.  All Zingerman's locations follow their Three Steps to Giving Great Service. First, find out what the guest wants, get it for them accurately, politely, and enthusiastically, and lastly, go the extra mile. Do these steps consistently to create a reliably great experience. Use the process of visioning to create future plans. Look at goals for success and future objectives, internally and externally, at relationships with vendors, your staff's experience, and every aspect that could affect success.  Open book accounting and management allows every employee from dishwashers to shift leaders to feel like they have an impact on processes. You will have suggestions for improvement on issues that upper management might not notice.  Open book processes also improve retention and hiring of employees who want their opinion to matter or who want to participate in the success of the business. It will allow people to improve points of frustration or disagreement. Choosing greatness over growth does not mean you forfeit growth. You will instead, grow in a way that creates raving fans in a world where word of mouth is one of the most impactful marketing tactics, while being free.  If your employees care, it translates to good service. A serving team's genuine care will shine through to the guest and make a uniquely welcoming experience. Otherwise, you have a team of people who aren't invested in the wellbeing of your guests.  Quote of the Show:“If your staff feel taken care of, they're probably going to give better service.” - Lisa SchultzLinks: Company website: https://www.zingermansroadhouse.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/zingermansroadhouse/  Shout Outs: 1:30 - USC Trojans: https://usctrojans.com/sports/football  02:11 - Small Giants - Bo Burlingame  03:55 - Ari Weinzweig 09:39 - Alex Young 11:15 - The Great Game of Business - Jack Stack 27:02 - Danny Meyer: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dhmeyer/  Ways to Tune In:  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A2XOJvb6mGqEPYJ5bilPX Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/defining-hospitality-podcast/id1573596386 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZGVmaW5pbmdob3NwaXRhbGl0eS5saXZlL2ZlZWQueG1s Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/8c904932-90fa-41c3-813e-1cb8f3c42419

Tasting Notes An early "craft" gin out of Philadelphia, Bluecoat is a citrus-forward "American" style dry gin. All organic botanicals contribute to a gin tailored for a crisp, lemon-rind finished martini. The initial nosing is sweet earth, and lemon peel, with a touch of dried root. On the palate, the 94-proof spirit is a heavyweight. Spicy botanical notes coat the sides and bottom of the tongue while lifted citrus emerges through the finish. Bone dry, earthy, with enough lemon zing to carry the day. Dry, Zingy, Citrus Forward Gin Perfect for Martini Time

Fabrice Grinda is one of the world's leading Internet entrepreneurs and investors, with over 150 exits on 500 angel investments. When I first interviewed him for this podcast, way back in 2005, the then-31-year-old French native was in the process of packing up his office at Zingy, the mobile media start-up he'd founded in 2000. After growing Zingy to $200 million in revenue, Fabrice had sold the company for $80 million in 2004. Eighteen months later, he was stepping down as CEO and looking ahead to his next adventure. At the time we spoke, Broadband, iTunes and podcasting were all new, and Fabrice saw it as “the beginning of a hundred year revolution.” He recognized that there were going to be huge opportunities ahead for the entrepreneurs who were willing to take the risks and go all in on a big idea. And as Fabrice's story shows, you don't have to be the one who comes up with the groundbreaking product to become a wildly successful entrepreneur. *** If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes? What can an anarchist with a “useless” degree in History teach you about business? Turns out a helluva lot. Meet Ari Weinzweig, co-founder of the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, a thriving enterprise based in Ann Arbour Michigan. This 65-million-dollar-a-year business started out life in 1984 as a small deli in a college town with an, at the time unstated, vision of creating something cool and unique that was a great experience for every person who walked through the door. Tune in as you will most certainly be inspired to reflect on your mission and vision and you may even want to bring a little anarchy to your work.

I don't know if anyone ever actually reads these descriptions, but we do the thing we always do with the movie descriptions. This week we cover Something in the Dark, Mutants, Zingy the Swamp Boy, and Cruel Jaws. Mutants 2008 The greedy Braylon owns the Just Rite Sugar Company and has hired the unethical scientist Sergei to conduct an experiment to make an addictive sugar stronger than heroin or nicotine to increase his sales. Sergei uses invisible people as test subjects, like beggars, addicted junkies and illegals, in the clandestine Shadow Rock Mill. When Braylon's men mistakenly kidnap Ryan, who is the brother of his secretary Erin and son of his security chief Griff, and Hannah, the youngster becomes an important non-contaminated subject. However, Erin receives some mysterious e-mails from the unknown Cinderella with a picture of Ryan and a hint that he might be in Shadow Rock and together with her father, they decide to seek out Ryan.   Zindy the Swamp Boy 1973 Zindy and his grandfather live in the swamp because Gramps killed a mobster and he's wanted by the law. Zindy's parents are also dead.. His only friends are a chimpanzee (native to Africa) and a pet tarantula. His main foil is a hungry puma (native to Florida!). After endless scenes of walking through the glades and paddling through the swamp, Zindy's grandfather dies a horrible death in quicksand and Zindy is mauled to death by the puma.   Something in the Dark 2018 A supernatural thriller, Something in the Dark is about a pair of mysterious eyewear that allow a blind woman to see ghosts. But since they let her see real people as well, she is unable to distinguish between the living and the dead. She soon glimpses Death itself stalking her and must discover why it has come for her.   Cruel Jaws 1995 A tiger shark bred by the Navy as a killing machine is wreaking havoc in the sleepy tourist town of Hampton Bay. Days before the annual Regatta celebration, the townspeople are faced with financial ruin if something isn't done about their newfound shark problem. If that wasn't enough, the owners of the local amusement park have been subject to a hostile takeover from a prospective businessman looking to cash in on their prized property. It's up to the sheriff, the park's owner, and a shark expert to head out and destroy the killing fish before the summer economy is slashed and the park is left for the bulldozer.

To be honest, not a great deal happened in the world of food this week – so we had to make sure that our show was fiery enough to make up for it. It didn't disappoint, don't you worry. In fact, it got so hot in our studio at one point that Sue Nelson had to leave – much to the amusement of Guy Routledge and Ollie Lloyd. Who's to blame? Probably Pritesh Mody. ‘The Spice Guru', as he's known on television for shows like Sunday Brunch, brought his flavoursome ‘World of Zing' products along to the show for everyone to try. There was one that had just a little too much zing for Sue though. To cool the tongue, he brought along some special Negronis – all forgiven. From spicy to sweet, we took some time to hear about another Sugarwise-accredited product that is helping us stay away from the harmful white stuff. Back in the studio, we had some more fantastic goodies in front of us. These ones didn't have a Zing, instead these were just winners. B-Tempted took gold in our free-from category at the FoodTalk Awards a few months ago. Sarah Hilleray told us how she turned her home cooking into an award-winning brand.

Now second-time Venture Voice guest Fabrice Grinda is seeking to dominate online classifieds with OLX, his latest venture. Unlike Craigslist, OLX is translated into many languages and has a global focus. OLX is completely ad supported so there are no fees for job or real estate listings as there are on Craigslist. Still, it sounds crazy to compete with Craigslist. If anyone can do it, it may be Fabrice. When we interviewed him in December, 2005, it was on his last day working as CEO at Zingy, a ring tone provider that he founded and sold for $80 million against all odds. OLX already has 125 employees and 60 million unique visitors per month, but with $28.5 million is venture capital it has a lot of growth ahead of it before it's a success.
