Although LSPs of different sizes tend to compete for different types of clients there is occasionally some overlap. In a world where we are constantly reminded of all the mergers and acquisitions that are happening and where more and more translation companies are betting on size and scale as a differentiator it is important to remember that in this industry of scope, not scale, there are still plenty of opportunities for smaller competitors to win.About Filipe:Filipe Tiago Stankovic is a young and very motivated CEO who has been working as such for the last 3 years. He originally started by getting his hands dirty and being involved in every possible step imaginable of the company. Now he is a bit more focused on (just) management. He loves learning and has been truly blessed by an opportunity (although sometimes burden :p ) very few young people get: to be in charge and to be able to actually try his new ideas from all the books he reads.About Nimdzi Live:There is a shadow industry driving the growth of ALL global brands: Localization. That was the beginning of Akkadu. Alvaro loves playing the piano, playing chess, watching anime, and his favorite quote is "别守株待兔,主动!" which means "don't wait for things to happen, make them happen!" Voice and the conversational AI field is flourishing. It is redefining how we interact with computers, i.e. NLP, Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Watch. Tech giants Alibaba, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft are investing heavily in voice technology in both hardware and software. Famed investor, Mark Cuban, recently stated, “There’s no future that doesn’t have ambient computing or voice activation. None.” However, voice tech still has significant race and gender biases (HBR, Bajorek, 2019), that have perilous implications for immigration, job hiring, transportation, surveillance, and more. One of the keys to fixing bias is the people in the room, the pipelines and retention of racial and gender diversity at companies. Celebration of female talent and community are core goals of Women in Voice, the nonprofit with 20 chapters in 14 countries. Women in Voice also champions female founders and VC investment in this space. Recently their partnership with the Amazon Alexa Startups team has showcased conversational AI and voice innovation from all around the world. All of this is on a mission to make society and voice technology better for everyone.

Our guest today is fluent in the language of data. (He is also fluent in metrics and insights, which are of course different things, as we will discuss in this episode of Nimdzi LIVE!. Miguel Sepulveda is a frequent speaker and teacher on the subject of defining, tracking, and reporting localization metrics - and not just any metrics - metrics that matter! When not at his "day Job" as Global Localization Manager at King, Miguel publishes his insights (and GREAT infographics) on https://yolocalizo.com and is a regular contributor for Nimdzi Insights market research. Yes, we will discuss ROI (return on investment) for localization programs. We will frame the conversation within the larger context of defining metrics that matter, which is to say metrics that matter to the C-Suite. Knowing your company’s (or client’s, if you’re an LSP) long-term goals and key performance metrics is just the first step... The next step requires some creativity. For example, here are a few examples of metrics companies track in order to prove localization ROI: 1. The increase in hotel rooms booked if the website is localized2. Annual revenue generated by a browser language A in market B against ongoing translation expense3. User engagement (as opposed to just user base growth) in select territories if the product is localized correctly4. For game developers, it can be a combination of metrics – from an increase in regional sales when a language is launched, to cost per install What metrics should YOU use to track ROI. Well, that of course depends. Every situation is different and warrants a custom approach. But there are also some commonalities. In this episode, we will look at established best practices of mature globalization programs and discussed how these can be modified to fit specialized g11n programs (presumably, like yours). This episode is for client-side globalization managers, vendor-side account managers and senior customer success managers, and anybody who wants to learn how to speak the language of the C-Suite - the language of data!

The Process Innovation Challenge (PIC), hosted most recently at LocWorldWide #44, encourages and empowers the localization industry’s innovators. Participants submit a process or technology innovation and are asked to pitch their ideas in front of a live audience to the Process Dragons, who evaluate the different proposals and declare a winner. The most recent winner of the PIC was Rikkert Engels, CEO and Founder of Xillio and LocHub. Today he is joining us fresh off of taking home first place at the Process Innovation Challenge, talking about how Localization People Can Help Marketers Improve Global UX. The new innovation tests for multilingual inconsistencies on websites. A lot of websites combine several languages on a single page due to errors in the process. Removing those errors increases conversion and provides for a much better local experience. I first met Rikkert several years ago, and it has been very interesting to watch Xillio over the years as they have carved out a unique niche helping companies “connect the dots’ in their language automation and integration strategies. Quality is a concept that is constantly evolving. For those in the language industry, whose responsibility it is to localize content into languages around the world, it can be particularly hard to pin down. Therefore, it is a frequent topic of conversation at industry conferences and events. During #LocWorldWide44, Tucker started an interesting conversation about the past, present, and future of quality management, though the conversation unfortunately got cut short… until now! Kirill Soloviev is the CEO and Co-Founder of ContentQuo, an Estonian tech company that helps localization teams, government translation departments, and Global Top-100 LSPs lower their linguistic quality risk, improve vendor performance, and boost MT output quality at scale (via a data-driven SaaS platform that integrates with TMS solutions like Wordbee, MemoQ, and Memsource). During his almost 20 years in the industry, Kirill has served in diverse vendor and buyer roles, most notably as Global Director of Localization at Acronis (a unicorn software company offering data protection and disaster recovery solutions). In his spare time, Kirill enjoys mentoring other localization pros & attending LocLunches. He also plays musical instruments as diverse as drums, Irish tinwhistle, and ukulele (most of them badly). The Return of Language Weaver (automatic language translation)

RWS has announced the return of Language Weaver, the brand that first pioneered automatic language translation. Language Weaver – which combines RWS’s linguistic expertise with SDL and Iconic’s technologies – will now represent RWS’s machine translation platform. Today we talk with two of the faces behind this initiative, Dr. John Tinsley, founder of Iconic Translation Machines, and Mihai Vlad, VP of Machine Learning and Machine Translation at SDL. Both Iconic and SDL are part of RWS Group and more information can be found at https://rws.com History of Language Weaver: Founded in 2002 Language Weaver was first to commercialize new approaches to automatic language translation based on machine learning. Its rich history and cutting-edge technology shaped the future of the language translation industry. Acquired by SDL in 2010, the Language Weaver brand was retired in 2015 and renamed SDL Machine Translation. The technology – through continual investment – evolved from statistical machine translation to neural machine translation, capable of instantly translating content across 2,700 language combinations. RWS acquired SDL in 2020, and is now bringing back the Language Weaver brand. More about Language Weaver capabilities: Building MT models has traditionally been exclusively reserved for specialists. Decades of collaboration between linguists, engineers and researchers has resulted in a simplified solution that opens up MT to everyday business users. The Language Weaver platform allows anyone to provide real-time feedback on translations and fine-tune generic language models. Behind the scenes the platform also constantly looks for ways to improve the quality of translations. RWS’s team of expert scientists and consultants are always on hand to advise on and develop bespoke solutions for customers with complex requirements. Language Weaver benefits any business or industry dealing with multilingual content. It is already being used by organizations to communicate and collaborate with customers in multiple languages, public sector organizations for content intelligence, and law firms for eDiscovery. As a critical application with unrivalled scalability and security, it can be integrated with any software or platform – from Microsoft Office, to Chatbots and eCommerce platforms – giving businesses the ability to understand any type of multilingual content.
