Buying an existing online business is great in theory, but what is the experience actually like in reality? In this week's episode, we chat with Landon Greenhalgh, an entrepreneur who recently took the plunge and acquired his first eCommerce business.Landon walks us through his eCommerce journey so far, from tracking down the ideal business and doing his due diligence to identifying and pouncing on post-acquisition growth opportunities.  Landon sheds light on common pitfalls that often catch first-time buyers off guard, such as fixating on the 'perfect' opportunity or overlooking the value of existing employees. According to Landon, “You can make or break an acquisition by how you treat the [existing] employees. If you come in with a ‘my way or the highway' type mentality, it can ruin a lot of what made that company great. Humility, and recognizing that the employees probably know way more about the company than you do, is a very important aspect of an acquisition.” The journey from acquiring an existing business to turning it into a thriving brand isn't just for the Bransons and Musks of the world. As Landon's story shows, everyday people like him – and like you – can achieve remarkable success in the online business arena by simply purchasing a scalable business.  Topics Discussed in This Episode: Landon shares his background and entrepreneurial journey (01:42) Why Landon decided to purchase an existing eCommerce business (03:09) Landon's due diligence tips for first-time buyers (09:29)  Alerting existing employees about the acquisition (15:37) How Landon has capitalized on growth opportunities in his acquisition (19:39) Landon explains how his high-ticket business model works (22:32) The top strategies that have helped Landon grow his brand (24:15) Time management and avoiding burning out (30:18) Landon's supply chain and forecasting demand (32:15) Landon's take on the future of eCommerce (36:28) Mentions: Empire Flippers Podcasts Empire Flippers Marketplace Create an Empire Flippers account Subscribe to our weekly newsletter  Landon's LinkedIn page Sit back, grab a coffee, and learn what it takes to buy and scale an existing eCommerce business.

Half of all money spent on advertising is wasted. But we just don't know which half. In recent years, marketing professionals have been trying to use neuroscience to locate the "buy button" in our brain, which if pressed would make us buy their stuff. It's the holy grail: a way of knowing, in advance, which ads are going to work and are worth spending money on, and which ones would flop. The promise, from both marketers and some neuroscientists, is that our brains can, effectively, be hacked. But does it work? Presenter/producer: Jolyon Jenkins

“You can have all the strategies in the world from the top online business gurus, but if you're struggling some way — physically, mentally, spiritually — you're not going to be able to do what you came here to do. She fought against what her soul and body needed and did what she thought she was SUPPOSED to do at every stage. And she was completely miserable.Between launching Hair Love and launching Gem + Love, Kaley became interested in Human Design, crystals, and different modalities for spiritual healing. When launching Gem + Love, Kaley worked in ways that honored her Human Design type and built in periods of rest and creativity. The launch felt effortless because it was done in alignment with Kaley's needs and the way she naturally works best.In addition to Human Design, Kaley has also been working at honoring her feminine energy. As business owners in a masculine society, we're taught to use masculine biz-building strategies — which is why the hard sell, hustle, no-sleep culture has become so popular. When you operate from more of a feminine energy perspective and use feminine strategies, things flow and become more fun and effortless!Hit play and find a new way to work! Play Episode Listen Later Nov 28, 2020 8:22

In this video we are going to create a buy button, this is a chart object and when we click on the button we can see that we have a new open position, so let’s find out how to do that with mql5. To get started please click on a little icon here or press F4 on your keyboard, now you should see the Metaeditor window and here you want to click on file, new file, expert advisor from template, continue, I will call this file, simple buy button, click on continue, continue and finish. Now you can delete everything above the ontick function and let’s remove the two comment lines here. We start with an include statement to include the file trade dot mqh, it contains the class ctrade and we are going to create an instance that is called trade, afterwards, we create two variables for the ask price and the bid price because the event handling for the button will be implemented in a separate function. Inside of the ontick function, we start by calculating the ask price and the bid price that is done by using symbol info double for the current symbol on the chart, we use either symbol underscore ask or symbol underscore bid and with normalize double and underscore digits we make sure to automatically calculate the right number of digits behind the dot. Now we want to create a chart object that is done by using object create for the current symbol on the chart, the object name will be buy button, the object type is obj underscore button and if you mark that and press F1 you will see that there are lots of object types that we can draw on the chart. This is the one that we are going to use, you can place a button in front of any chart. Inside of the documentation, you will find lots of examples for dozens of properties and events but we are going to make it very simple. The next parameter is the window, we want the button to appear in the main window where the candles are and the last two parameters here for date time and price point are not required, so we set those values to zero. Let’s define a few properties, we use object set integer for the current symbol on the chart and the object with the name buy button, the property we want to change is the x distance from the border, let’s set the distance to two hundred pixels, I would like to set another property, everything is equal except for the parameter here that’s object property x size and that will change the width of our button. We also want to set the distance from the upper or from the lower border that is done by using object property underscore y distance. Now let’s set the height of the button to fifty pixels and this time it’s obj prop underscore y size, we can pick one of four borders for our object that is done by using obj prop underscore corner so if you change this number your object will appear in a different corner and finally, I would like to change the text on the button – that’s what we do when we use obj prop underscore text – and I would like to have the text buy and that’s it for the button. You could compile the code now but the button wouldn’t do anything so what’s missing is the event handling and we are going to create that now. So let’s create a separate function here, this function is called on chart event, we have four parameters here, the first one is for the chart id and these three parameters here are used to pass some values. Inside of the function, we first want to check if the first parameter here, id, equals chart event object click, so that would be a mouse click on an object. And in the next step we want to check the value for the sparam that is a string value and we will call that clicked object name and now we can check if the sparam equals buy button – that’s the name of the button – and if that is true we want to create a comment statement and output the sparam value to show which button was pressed, in our case we only have one button and if it is the buy button we use trade dot buy to buy ten micro lot. Now let’s close the if loop and the function and that’s about it. If this was too fast for you or if you have no idea what all the code here does maybe you want to watch one of the other videos in the basic video series or maybe even the premium course on our website might be interesting for you, this was once again a question from a premium course member and if you are already a premium course member and have some ideas for a video like this one just let me know. For now, we click on view, toolbar and press the compile button or you can also press F7 on your keyboard… I have messed up something… And that’s this bracket here, it caused all the following errors here. Now I have removed it and I recompile the code and this time it worked. And if this is the case you can click on a little button here or press F4 to go back to Metatrader. And in Metatrader, please open an empty chart, now go to expert advisors and look for the new file, simple buy button, please make sure that you are on a demo account, we need to use a real chart here because it will not work in the strategy tester, so let’s drag it on the chart and click on okay. Now the buy button should appear on your chart, Not sure what to do? In this video we are going to create a simple buy button object directly on the chart, so let’s find out how to code that with mql4. To get started please click on a little icon here or press F4 on your keyboard, now you should see the Metaeditor window and here you want to click on file, new file, expert advisor from template, continue, I will call this file, simple buy button, click on continue, continue and finish. Now you can delete everything above the ontick function and the two comment lines here. Inside of the ontick function, we are going to use object create, this will create an object of a defined type. The first parameter is for the current symbol on the chart, the second parameter is the name, the third parameter is obj underscore button if you mark that and press F1 you will see that we have lots of different object types and this is the one we are going to use, it will place a button on your chart. The next parameter here is the window, we would like to have the button in front of the candles that’s window zero. If you would use an oscillator like the MACD that would create a separate window below window zero, that would be window one but let’s place the button on the main chart, we have no values for the date time and for the price because we are going to set the placement for our button by setting a few properties now. To do that we use object set integer for the current symbol on the chart, the second parameter is the name of the object, in our case, it’s the buy button, the property that we want to change is object property x distance and we will set it to two hundred pixels. Afterwards, I would like to change the width, so let’s repeat that object set integer for the current symbol on the chart, the name of the object is the same, this time we are going to change a different property, this is called object property x size, let’s set that also to two hundred pixels. To set the distance from the upper or the lower border we repeat the whole thing that we have done here but this time we change the property object property y distance, let’s set that also to two hundred pixels. Of course, we also need to define the button height that’s done by using obj properties y size, and I have used fifty pixels here. We can pick one of four corners for our button that is done by changing obj property underscore corner in my case I have chosen corner three and to make the button useful we need to set some object property text. Let’s remove the bracket here because this is for the end of the function. Now you could actually compile the code but the button wouldn’t do anything and to change that we need to add some event handling, therefore, we need to use a predefined function that is called on chart event. It uses several parameters. The first one is for the event id and the other parameters are used to pass values depending on the object type. Let’s find out what kind of event happened and to do that we check if the id equals chart event underscore object underscore click. If you mark that one and press F1 you will see that we have lots of different events, for example, key down for the keyboard, this would be a click on the chart but we need this one because we want to find out if the object was clicked. That’s where we can use the sparam value because it will pass the name of the object, in our case it’s the buy button, so let’s create a comment statement that will output the value for the s parameter, so it should say buy button was pressed and afterwards we use order send for the current symbol on the chart to open a buy position for ten micro lot, so please don’t do that on your real account, use a demo account. You can create one from right inside of Metatrader and one more thing, the on chart event will not work in the strategy tester, so you actually need to drag the expert advisor onto a real chart. Let’s close the if statement and the function and that’s about it.

The co-author of "Neuromarketing" and "The Persuasion Code," Patrick shares his simple, proven scientific methodology to create desire and entice people to buy your product. Using sophisticated physiological measurements, measuring brainwaves and tracking eye movements, Patrick's team discovered that what people say does not reflect what they truly want. Patrick has identified that decision-making is governed not by the rational neocortex (known as System Two), but by the ancient primal brain, or System One. The primal brain only recognizes six stimuli—which Patrick tells you how to trigger using four specific steps. If you're a product marketer and want to start leveraging brain science to sell MUCH more, you don't want to miss this episode.Graphos Product: https://www.graphosproduct.comRead the episode transcript, our blog and learn about our unique product marketing servicesSalesBrain:https://www.salesbrain.comBuy "Neuromarketing: Understanding the Buy Buttons in Your Customer's Brain" at AmazonBuy "The Persuasion Code" at Amazon

Could ethically “hack” the minds of your customers and prospects to persuade them to take action? It’s not some kind of magic or marketing trick. I’m talking about triggering a response in someone by triggering a response in their primal or reptilian brain. Patrick Renvoise of Salesbrain.com is a neuromarketing specialist, he’s the author of his recently released book - The Persuasion Code, and his TEDx talk has more than 140,000 views. Patrick argues that we basically have two systems competing in our head. Our 500 million year old primal brain, and our more modern rational brain. And however rational we think we are, it’s that ancient, self-centered, emotional, visual, primal brain that really drives decision making. Click here to download Patrick’s modern marketing techniques to ethically make more sales by stimulating your customers' primal brain from this episode. In this episode, you’ll learn how, as entrepreneurs, marketers, and side hustlers, we can tap into that ancient “buy button” to be more persuasive. Tune in to hear how to more clearly explain the value proposition, and ultimately make more sales and grow your business. Patrick breaks down the 6 stimuli that matter to the primal brain, and how you can work your marketing techniques around these “triggers”, which are: Personal – Patrick explains how certain words in your sales copy can trigger a person’s “Buy button” and stimulate the response you’re aiming for. Contrast – He explains why it’s important to show customers a contract between you and your competitors, and how you can do this in your industry. Tangible – He explains why you should be using marketing information that a 4-year old would understand, and how using a story can impact our reptilian brains. Visual – “Around 90-95% of all brain activity it about processing images,” Patrick said. He explains how you can use images to make a more powerful impact than the written or spoken word. Beginning and End – By design, we remember more about the beginning and end of a conversation, film, book, and so on, so understanding the importance of writing a compelling hook and call-to-action can make a difference in sales conversions. Emotional – We make decisions based on our emotions, then rationalize them later. He explains how to tap into your customer's emotional responses. Tune in to hear Patrick explain the 6 stimuli of the reptilian brain you need to be aware of, his Pain/Claim/Gain/Brain framework for crafting effective emails, marketing materials, sales copy, etc, and how you can apply these techniques in your business to ethically make more sales.

Today’s podcast is the second episode of our two-part series focused on The Persuasion Code, a new book co-authored by Christophe Morin and Patrick Renvoise. We're joined this time by Patrick, co-founder and Chief Neuromarketing Officer at SalesBrain. Along with Christophe, Patrick is also the co-author of what is likely the first book about neuroscience in marketing, Neuromarketing: Understanding the "Buy Button" in Your Customer's Brain. Prior to co-founding SalesBrain, Patrick was in charge of business development at Silicon Graphics, and then at LinuxCare. He soon developed a fascination with the human brain and began investigating a scientific model to explain how people make buying decisions. Patrick spent two years researching and formalizing the first 100% science-based persuasion model called NeuroMAP™, a proprietary, award-winning methodology that has been used by over 6,000 companies worldwide. In this episode, Patrick shares the major drivers of human behavior that all marketers should understand. Listen in to learn what's at the core of our decision-making, how to alleviate common pain points for customers, and what companies can do to ensure they're communicating their value propositions as effectively as possible. #88 - Five Strategies for Using Free Books to Build Sales

Kobo Writing Life Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 9, 2017 29:52

Episode 88 of the Kobo Writing Life Podcast isn't the more typical interview, but rather, KWL's Director, Mark Lefebvre, outlining five strategies that successful authors use to build their sales, raise their author profile and get readers to sign up their author mailing lists with Free eBooks. First, Mark talks about the updates to FREE tracking. If you've been paying attention to the updates in the Notification header of the Kobo Writing Life dashboard (which link to this VERY HANDY - hint, hint, nudge, nudge - part of the KWL Community) throughout July, you may have noticed that the Web team and the KWL Team have been working at revisions to the broken free tracking that we've been dealing with for quite a while. Currently FREE TRACKING is being refreshed and updated. But in the meantime, there's something important you should know about the FREE DOWNLOADS numbers you're seeing. The most important has to do with PREVIEWS.  First, please don't worry, we are NOT giving your non-free books away. At Kobo, readers have the opportunity to preview the first 5% of eBooks. Whenever an ePub file is loaded into Kobo's database, the catalog generates a unique new ePub file that is comprised of the first 5% of that full eBook, then it tacks on a final page with a "BUY Button" for the full book into the end of that ePub. And whenever a customer clicks on the "Save Preview" button on a book's item page, it adds that preview ePub file to that customer's library. Since there isn't currently any filtering that distinguishes the preview ePub file from the full ePub file, it appears as if that eBook was given to a customer, and is tracked as a "free download" in the dashboard.  (The KWL, Web and UX Teams will be adjusting and fixing this, but having that information can be extremely valuable, because it allows you to see how many customers have PREVIEWED your book. IE, if you have a huge number of PREVIEWS but not a huge number of sales, that could tell you something important about the conversion from free preview to sales) 1) First Free eBook in Series (Perma-Free) Although this isn't a new practice, it continues to be something that works quite nicely for authors looking to increase their sales and author profile at Kobo. Authors can set any book on Kobo to free at any time for as long as they want with no restrictions and no requests for exclusivity. The concept is creating a funnel to get a lot of people to grab the first book for free and hopefully converting them into buyers because the worlds, characters, settings and situations they are reading about in your series are so compelling that they HAVE to keep on reading. Below are some stats that are typical of the conversion rate from FREE to SALES via studies done on multiple different first book in series promos.   2) Free Book/Novella/Novelette Kept Perma-Free that ISN'T the first in the Series The same technique used above can be used for other books in the series (rather than the first book), or perhaps for interstitial stories in the series universe. Remember that, with Kobo Writing Life, you can enter Series metadata using decimals. IE, imagine you have a novella that takes place between Books 1 and 2 in your series. Entering 1.5 into the Volume Number value in your Series metadata connects those book. (See this post on how that works at KWL) 3) Free related/connected Short Story hook into a novel or series Mark shares a personal anecdote about using a short story to entice readers to want to learn more or explore more about characters that appear in a full novel. His example is how the FREE short story, This Time Around, a 10,000 word short story, has been successful at helping new readers discover his main character Michael Andrews, who is a werewolf attempting to live a normal life in the midst of one of the world's largest metropolitan centers in the novel A Canadian Werewolf in New York. 4) A Free eBook that is a stand alone novel / NOT part of a series For those of you who do NOT have series books, don't despair. There is still a correlation between the "funnel" of free eBooks and readers going on to buy more books by the same author (rather than books in the same series) Mark shares how his friend Sean Costello, a thriller/horror writer he works closely with, uses free to build a readership, not based on the book being part of a series, but based on readers discovering the voice of a brilliant author who they feel compelled to read more books from. Costello's SQUALL has garnered almost 3300 reviews on Kindle and more than 800 reviews on Kobo with a 4 star average. Again, good news for authors who don't write series books. Free works for gaining new readers and selling more eBooks for you too.  :)   5) Using FREE eBooks for Newsletter sign-ups While it's great that retails can help authors sell more using algorithms and targeted emails to their customers making recommendations, it is important for authors to get readers to sign up to their author newsletter. Folks like Nick Stephenson (Your first 10,000 Readers) and Mark Dawson (Self Publishing Formula) have been helping authors use techniques to help get readers signed up for their newsletter mailing lists which allow authors to better control their own success. (Being able to let your best fans know when you have a new release or have a promotional price available has a direct correlation with sales success) The way this works (and you can get FAR BETTER details by clicking the links above), authors set up a newsletter sign up at the end of their eBooks or via targeted social media ads (Facebook, etc) and when a customer signs up, they can get a free eBook sent to them from the author. These are typically eBooks that are NOT free on the various retail websites. So these readers who become newsletter subscribers get something of value directly from the author which helps built brand trust and loyalty. Other authors, such as M.L. Buchman don't ever make their eBooks free nor do they give free eBooks away. But, instead, they create unique, fresh and interesting new stories and content specifically FOR their best fans, via either an author newsletter or directly on their own websites. (They will sometimes release this material via regular retail channels at a later date) This ensures that their best fans get access to reading fresh and exiting new material before anybody else can read it.   That, in a nutshell, are just five different ways that authors are using FREE to help build their sales and their author brands. We would love to share more strategies that work well, so if you have a strategy that works for you, please free free to share that in comments on this podcast's show notes on the KWL Podcast web page under Episode 88.   Related Links: Free eBooks on Kobo - curated from KWL titles and updated weekly. I’d like to introduce some of the characters in my latest book Buy Buttons, and also give you a sample of the audiobook version I recorded. I knew I wanted to create an audiobook for this title, because Audible is yet another “Buy Button” marketplace for me to test out, and because I’ve heard audiobooks can actually perform really well for authors. Note: If you’re new to Audible, you can get Buy Buttons and another title of your choosing free! But even for someone who’s been editing audio for the last 3.5 years on this podcast, it was quite a challenge to get the book recorded and approved for sale. In fact, it was rejected by Audible 4 or 5 different times for various reasons.  Just reading my own words without messing up and with intonations that made sense was hard enough!  That put a little damper on my timeline, as I’d hoped to get it out much closer to the launch date of the Kindle and paperback editions. Still, now that the audiobook is approved, it’s already been selling well with very little promotion. In this episode I share the full introduction to Buy Buttons plus you’ll meet a few of the side hustlers I connected with during the writing process. As you know, most business books follow a familiar format: big picture thesis, supported by case studies and examples. Feeling no need to reinvent the wheel, Buy Buttons follows this formula as well. The big picture thesis is that the fastest way to earn extra money is to go where money is already being spent: the hundreds of peer-to-peer marketplaces. I was able to source several stories from The Side Hustle Show archives and the blog archives to back that thesis up, but still had a bunch of gaps to fill in. For those, I turned to HARO, the Side Hustle Nation Facebook group and email list, and even reaching out to the marketplaces directly to see if they had any successful sellers I could potentially feature.

Internet marketer of the week: Ray Edwards. Creator of the Rapid Writing Method. He absorbs what Brendon Burchard, Michael Hyatt, Dave Ramsey all do very well -- branding and unification. A huge breakthrough I got out of his "Writing Riches" book was that just taught straightforward copywriting. Not a lot of silly stories or parables mixed in like others teach you "should" have in a book. What a concept! Common Cop Outs (That We Just Solved in Today's Show)   My niche is people with money! Who wouldn't want it? My niche is young people because they're smart, or old people because they have all the money Split test it! I'm going to provide value and give everything away for free I'm still learning I have an idea but it's already been done before I have an idea but I'm waiting on someone else to do the work I'm "waiting" for the right time A Confused Mind Never Buys! Delayed buy button and I can't buy, or I can't buy on an iPad I optin and I can't buy right away, I have to wait for your sequence I have to buy 3 upsells just to get the thing I actually wanted (Lance says: sell what you sell) Blogging or posting without purpose (Add Signature plugin and URL dropping) Too many choices: 2 or 3 at the most. More choices = "experimental" pages (yearly and trial) Optin page: headline, 3 bullet points, call to action, optin form (no video, no testimonials) Sales letter: have you noticed they're way shorter? very few words, even. Software is all about the screenshots and features. Short & To the Point Landing Pages: Keep it Shippable Make the buy button first, before anything else Then headline and subheadline Then the offer stack (what's in it) Then flesh out the bullet points (dream product), story and transitions Then create the product after all that! (PLR placeholder is optional) Quick Questions Answered in Today's Program To replay or not to replay? Non fast forward video? Squeeze page? What's the exact structure? What niche? Healthy, wealthy, or wise What product? Solve an actual problem that's easy for you, tough for others, that people are willing to pay money for, that's repeatable in checklist form, but there's still enough wiggle room for people to be creative. It gets them there and delivers a FAST result Testimonials? Don't let that hold you back from launching. No review copies, but have an email sequence asking how they like it. When people use it and respond, piece together a testi from their response. Upsell? This is another "goodie" you don't need right away. It shouldn't "just" be something "bigger" or something lazy like resale rights. It should be "the bigger picture." Five Dimensions of Knowledge from Jonathan Wells of AdvancedLifeSkills.com What we actually know What we think we know What we would like to know What we don't need to know What we used to know Let's add two more (the hardest ones to sell to you have to "sneak them" inside other ones: what we don't know we don't know, and what we need to know Internet Marketing World's largest taxi service owns no taxis (Uber) Largest accommodation provider owns no real estate (Airbnb) Largest retailer has no inventory (Alibaba) Most popular media company creates no content (Facebook) Largest movie house owns no theaters (Netflix) Largest software vendors don't write the apps (Apple & Google) Today's Quotes from Henry Ford You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do. Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. Quality means doing it right when no one is looking. Attributes That Should Be Running in Your Head all the Time, Consistently New Things Coming Down The Pipeline: There is no such thing as luck. (Scientific studies have disproved luck.) You just have to keep putting offers out there and promoting them. Follow-Through: Finish what you start (focus, minimum viable product, iteration, debugging, refactoring)

This week on The Little Radio Show we talk about Twitter's new “buy” button; we have an interview with Leticia Manzano from the Houston Area Women's Center about Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we reminisce on ghost stories in celebration of Halloween. In the In Case You Missed it Segment (ICYMI) we talk about changes in LinkedIn, with LinkedIn Groups becoming private. And … did you hear the story about the drunk driver who was Periscoping herself and gots arrested? Her viewers called the police on her. You can find the complete story on CNN, after you listen to the show. Twitter has rolled out their “Buy” button, making it possible to purchase from select ecommerce providers without ever leaving Twitter. What does this mean for us as conspicuous consumers, and for business owners? You can read more about this new feature in the Twitter announcement, or find out how to implement this for your business. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To talk about this we invited Leticia Manzano from the Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC) to join us on the show. She provides us with more information about the services and programs HAWC offers. They are located at 1010 Waugh Dr., Houston TX 77019. Their hotline is 713-528-2121. And getting in the spirit of Halloween, we talk about ghost stories, scary moments, and other things that go bump in the night. “The Little Radio Show” is on HMSNetRadio.org on Thursdays at 2 pm (CST). The show hosts are Sandra Fernandez (@sandrasays), Juan Alanis (@juanofwords), and Anjelica Cazares (@la_anjel).
