Mortal Kombat 2 It’s been 5 years since the last Mortal Kombat film was almost apologetically released onto our screens in a mid-covid streaming-first market. It was a moderate success at the time and folks were generally taken with the humour, the action beats and the relatively lore-accurate storyline. They were less interested in the new lead character Cole, who had never appeared in any MK story up to that point and whose main power seemed to be getting the seven shades of shit kicked out of him. Director Simon McQuoid has taken his licks on that one and has made the smart decision to follow up on that first story with a very different focus, and a lot of improvements. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation sits at the very top of the pile of worst sequels, and most crushing disappointments ever. Lets hope that this sequel doesn’t need the same tag line “Destroy your expectations”. It’s a 1 vs 1 match tonight with Dion in the red corner, and Quinny in the other colour non-descript corner (he can’t tell he’s colourblind!) we can only assume Peta and Jill are having their own knock-down drag-out fight in some other arena! The Devil Wears Prada 2 just crushed Mortal Kombat 2 at the box office -- yeah the fashion sequel held the No. 1 spot in its second weekend with a rock-solid $43 million domestic while the new fighting game flick opened soft at $40 million stateside and a lukewarm $63 million worldwide. Miranda Priestly and the Runway crew basically told Shao Kahn to finish himself -- Prada 2 already passed the original film's entire lifetime gross, pushed Disney past $2 billion YTD, and proved once again that killer cast chemistry and timely satire still pack theaters way harder than pixelated fatalities and R-rated gore. Vamos a hablar de “Mortal Kombat 2”, la esperadísima continuación de aquella cinta de 2021 que nos dejó con ganas de más sangre y, sobre todo, de un torneo real. Ha sido un camino largo. La película llega finalmente este 2026 tras un retraso que nos tuvo en ascuas, provocado principalmente por las huelgas de actores y guionistas que paralizaron Hollywood, sumado a una postproducción masiva que buscaba pulir esos efectos visuales que esta franquicia exige. Pero, ¿de qué va esta secuela? Sin caer en spoilers, la historia retoma justo donde la dejamos: las fuerzas de la Tierra deben buscar a nuevos campeones para enfrentar la invasión definitiva de Shao Kahn. Ya no es solo un preludio; ahora el destino de los reinos está en juego.Hablando de personajes, tenemos que mencionar al elefante (o más bien al actor de Hollywood) en la habitación: Karl Urban como Johnny Cage. Su llegada es un soplo de aire fresco y un bálsamo necesario tras la fría recepción de Cole Young en la primera parte, ese personaje inventado que no terminó de cuajar. Luego vino Mortal Kombat: Aniquilación en el ‘97, una cinta que, personalmente prefiero no recordar. Pero eso sí, esa primera película del ‘95 forma parte de nuestra nostalgia y es la razón por la que hoy, en 2026, seguimos emocionándonos cuando vemos a Scorpion en pantalla grande.Pero antes de entrar en faena, una aclaración necesaria sobre la escala de evaluación. En Cinefilia y Otras Hierbas somos sofisticados, pero no ingenuos. Si digo que esta película es, por ejemplo, un 8 o un 9, no la estoy comparando con La Lista de Schindler o el Michael de Fuqua. Las películas se evalúan en su propia liga. Estamos ante un cine de género, visceral y específico para un público que busca espectáculo y fidelidad al juego. Via, Entertainment Weekly, the images feature Karl Urban as Cage with his signature sunglasses, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana with her deadly bladed fans, and Martyn Ford in full Shao Kahn make-up. The movie is out October 24th of this year. In other news, GameCub fans are getting excited over new Nintendo FCC filings. The documents show what appears to be a GameCube-style controller, likely for the Switch 2. This could mean GameCube games coming to the Switch, possibly for the Nintendo Switch Online service. And finally, after just nine months, Star Wars: Hunters is shutting down. The free-to-play battle royale game received decent reviews but failed to generate much hype.

Longtime voice actor Fred Tatasciore has played more roles than we can name. In the genre of this podcast, he has been the Hulk in various animated forms. He has also been involved in three recently released DC/WB productions. He was Solomon Grundy in "Batman: The Long Halloween," Shao Kahn in "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms," and as Captain Atom in the soon-to-be-released "Injustice." He's been in many Star Wars projects, Young Justice, the reboot of the Animaniacs, Looney Tunes, and so much more. In the episode, he talks about many of his roles, and how he feels about the voiceover industry. He also showcased his incredible vocal range, and how he approaches any role.
