One of the greatest treats of Collider Ladies Night is getting to welcome a longtime favorite to show. That happened this time around with Tatiana Maslany, who currently has The Monkey playing in theaters nationwide. One of my earliest experiences doing week-to-week series coverage was Orphan Black. Not only did I absolutely adore the show and frequently marvel at Maslany's work in it, but given my investment, it heavily defined some of the earlier years of my career, paving the way to consistent work, work that I was excited to do and quite proud of. While I have crossed paths with Maslany a number of times since for short-form conversations, I was itching to get the opportunity to sit down for a longer chat, and now, thanks to a downright wild Stephen King adaptation from Osgood Perkins, that time has finally come.Maslany plays Lois in The Monkey, mother to twins Hal and Bill, both played brilliantly by Christian Convery. Lois' husband (Adam Scott) thought a drum-playing monkey would be a great gift to bring home to his boys - until he discovers its tendency to kill victims in especially outrageous and horrific ways. He disappears, leaving Lois a single mother. The trio forge forward well enough until Hal and Bill unearth their father's monkey.With The Monkey currently in theaters, Maslany joined me for a Ladies Night chat to discuss her experience working with Perkins on not one, but two feature films - The Monkey and also Keeper, which was filmed before The Monkey and is due in theaters via Neon later this year. If there's one constant in the film industry, it's that the only sure way to improve a movie is to add copious amounts of cocaine, either behind or in front of the camera. Aliza Vellani originally joined us in July 2021 to talk about her work in the first season of Netflix's Sweet Tooth. Sweet Tooth draws its inspiration from Jeff Lemire's comic book series about a boy who's half-human and half deer navigating a world that has been devastated by a virus that has killed a lot of people and led to the mysterious emergence of human-animal hybrid babies. Aliza plays Rani Singh. Rani has the virus, but is a rare long-term survivor, thanks to her doctor-husband Aditya's devotion and mysterious life-saving treatments, which we discover involves slaughtering hybrid children. The series shoots in New Zealand but features two Vancouver actors: Aliza as Rani and Christian Convery as the titular Sweet Tooth himself. Both Aliza and Christian won awards for their Sweet Tooth performances at the 2022 Leo Awards.Earlier this month, Sweet Tooth and Rani were back for another eight-episode journey that somehow managed to at once thrill, chill, entertain, and devastate audiences. Quando ele se deu conta perceber que o teco teco não aguentava o peso da carga, passou a soltar pacotes da droga pra aliviar o peso. Mesmo assim, ele precisou pular pra se salvar, deu o azar danado do paraquedas não abrir e acabou morrendo.::E você aí do outro lado pode perguntar: tá, mas onde diabos o urso se encaixa nisso tudo? Pois bem: mais de um mês depois de acharem o corpo do traficante, em dezembro de 1985, a polícia encontrou o cadáver de um urso-negro nas florestas. Na autópsia, descobriram que o bichão havia ingerido aproximadamente 34 quilos de cocaína, morreu de overdose e virou só o pó. E foi assim que esse urso se tornou uma espécie de lenda local, chegando inclusive a ser empalhado e exibido em um shopping center no Kentucky.::E é daí que a atriz e diretora Elizabeth Banks partiu para filmar "O Urso do Pó Branco", que aproveita esse pano de fundo maravilhoso para entregar um slasher, digamos, improvável. Man oh man, do we have a BIG interview for all of you today! For those of you who have been living under a rock, Sweet Tooth was number one on Netflix for a while, including the week that it debuted. Stemming from the comic book of the same name, created by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth tells the story of a young boy, and his unwitting companion, during a world pandemic that has effected the worlds children, by turning them into half human and half animal hybrids. "Sweet Tooth follows the story of Gus, also sometimes known as Sweet Tooth for his love of chocolate, and his journey to try to find his mother after his father dies in the wake of the two of them living together alone in hiding for a decade in a cabin in the woods." We've already done a review of the show itself, and today we are joined by the star of the series himself, Christian Convery! Christian plays Gus, the ever positive young boy, who wants nothing more than to find his mother, in a world that has done nothing but change around him, since the death of his father, and since meeting his new best friend, Big Man. Listening to Christian speak, and watching him on the small screen, you'd never guess that he was as young as he is! He's definitely on the elevator up, and this show will be a major bright spot in his career! Zuerst sprechen sie über die neue Netflix-Serie "Sweet Tooth" (4:00), mit der Robert Downey Jr. und Ehefrau Susan Downey eine Comicreihe des Kanadiers Jeff Lemire adaptiert haben, den Roland(e) bereits persönlich getroffen hat. Die postapokalyptische Fantasy um Mensch-Tier-Hybrid-Kinder wirkt aufgrund ihrer Pandemie-Thematik wie der totale Abtörner, aber der elfjährige Christian Convery und eine tonale Umkehr des Comics sorgen im Podcast für erstaunlich positive Stimmung. Etwas, was man auch von "Lisey's Story" (26:19) erwarten sollte. Für die Apple-Miniserie hat Stephen King seinen Lieblingsroman höchstpersönlich adaptiert und vor und hinter der Kamera mit Julianne Moore, Clive Owen, Joan Allen, Pablo Larraín und Darius Khondi jede Menge preisgekröntes Personal zusammengetragen. What a wonderful and touching chat this is. Anyone who is interested in watching Netflix's upcoming DC Comics adaptation Sweet Tooth when it launches on June 4th will want to hear what the stars have to say. We speak with the main actor, 11-year old Christian Convery, about his starring role as the titular character in Sweet Tooth and the research he did on deer to immerse himself in the scenes. Nonso Anozie, best known for his Game of Thrones portrayal of Xaro Xhoan Daxos and his roles in Ender's Game, Cinderella, and RocknRolla also took part, talking about doing his own stunts after six months of pandemic couch-surfing. We also dug into the charismatic relationship between the two actors' characters and what they do behind the scenes to help build that comfortable comradery on screen in the series.
