Time for an episode of those ideas that I've had for a while, but never quite fit into one categoty...so a nice miscellany of nonsense in this episode. From Hill Valley to Yorkshire, A Bugs Life to Beetroot, and from Michael Jackson to a man with a huge erection and a club…roller skating tortoises and everything in between! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/podcast-42/message

We're keeping with the Pixar theme this week, as we explore this early Pixar classic. We explore the incredible cast of this film and explain the many different Easter eggs hidden within.
Donald McEnery has been doing standup comedy since 1979 and worked all over the East Coast. Along the way he toured with Howie Mandel and worked a lot in Vegas. But is real success came when he teamed up with comic Bob Shaw and together they formed a writing team that worked on Pixar's "Bugs Life", Disney's "Hercules" and TV shows for George Carlin, Gene Wilder, and Arsenio Hall. This writing team was also nominated for an "Emmy" for their work on the Seinfeld Show. As a script writer and "Punch-up" man, Don formulated a wonderful career that continues as a standup today.Hosted by: R. Episode Notes: Were you aware of The Great Awakening that's happening in the collision repair industry, and how it's changing the repairer/insurer conversation? The OEMs have altered the game by leveraging the safety and functionality of using OEM parts and OE recommended repair processes. There is a great correlation between the Pixar movie “Bugs Life” and what's happening in the collision industry. The lessons from “Bug's Life" can inspire collision repair industry professionals to be creative, courageous, and collaborative in their work, and to value diversity and teamwork as key drivers of success. In the movie, the ants' lack of resources and inability to fend off the grasshoppers on their own highlights the importance of investing in technology and training for collision repair shops. By equipping themselves with the right tools and knowledge, shops can better protect themselves and their customers.Just like in the movie, courage, perseverance, and standing up to bullies can be applied to the collision industry as well. In the face of challenges and pressures, it's important for shops to stay strong and remain committed to providing high-quality repairs and excellent customer service. It's tough to be a bug, and even tougher when you're at the bottom of the food chain like Flik and the other inhabitants of Ant Island. But the Pixar Pals are about to find out what happens when a bully pushes a little ant with big ideas too far…and a classic mix-up leads to a motley crew of new friends showing him exactly what he's capable of. You may not walk away a lover of insects, but A Bug's Life will at least having you thinking twice before taking a magnifying glass to the sidewalk on a sunny day. Louis Rosenberg, PhD is a technology pioneer in fields of virtual reality (AR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI). He founded Unanimous AI to amplify the intelligence of networked human groups using the biological principle of Swarm Intelligence combined with AI. The idea panned out, resulting in Swarm AI, an award-winning technology used by a wide range of organizations from Fortune 500 corporations to the United Nations. Rosenberg began his career at Stanford University where he earned his BS, MS, and PhD degrees. Working at Air Force Research Laboratory in the early 1990's, Rosenberg created the Virtual Fixtures platform, the first functional AR system merging the real and the virtual into a unified interactive reality. He then founded the early VR company Immersion Corp (1993) and brought the company public in 1999. He also founded Microscribe, maker of 3D tools used in the production of animated films, including Shrek, Ice Age, and Bugs Life (acquired in 2009). Rosenberg also founded Outland Research in 2004, a developer of mobile media and AR technologies (acquired in 2011). Rosenberg was also a Professor at California State University (Cal Poly) teaching engineering, design, ed-tech, and entrepreneurship. A prolific inventor, Rosenberg has been awarded more than 300 patents worldwide for his efforts in VR, AR, and AI.I run into him at the bar, and we talk about the early pioneering days of AI, once forecasting the superfecta of the 2016 Kentucky Derby, AI advancements in the medical field, improving accuracy, data integrity, Unanimous AI, Swarm technology, and security risks of the Metaverse.Tony forecasts a "Mint Julep".Support the show

The Criterion Collection is one of the few remaining reasons people have for buying actual, physical copies of movies. Personally, I would rather drop a few dollars to buy a digital copy of something on Amazon and be able to access it anywhere, at any time and never have to worry about a disk getting lost, stolen, or damaged. I have too many memories of the several hundred VHS tapes that became useless hunks of plastic one day. But for some reason, The Criterion Collection retains an old school hold on me, which is how I have a collection of 52 movies and counting (I actually have 53, but one is the Beastie Boys video collection, which is not a movie). This week, we take our second step on our year (or so) long look at my personal collection. Week 2: The Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai) Spine Number: 2 Director: Akira Kurosawa Genre: It's the Seven Samurai. That is the genre. Words like "master," "masterpiece," and "genius" tend to get bandied about all willy-nilly these days. There are too many instances of something or someone simply being good at something and being labeled by our hyperbolic society as one of those superlatives. That being said there are still times when those titles apply. The following statements are inarguable FACTS! Akira Kurosawa was both a genius and unquestioned master filmmaker. "The Seven Samurai" is unquestionably a genius masterwork of cinema. This is what happens when an absolute master of visual storytelling gets an amazing story and an even more amazing cast. "What is that?" you ask? You get a three hour film wherein every frame is a poster, every face is perfect at every moment, and every light and sound adds to the mood and carries you through an amazing fable that is as engaging and captivating as possible. There is a reason this film has been remade as (at least) four different films that span genres and time periods. Make no mistake, Seven Samurai is the truth. In addition to this masterwork, we discuss The Magnificent Seven, The Three Amigos, A Bugs Life, and (to a lesser extent) Galaxy Quest. Next week: Spine Number 3: The Lady Vanishes (by Alfred Hitchcock) Also, check this out. http://fantasymovieleague.com/ Looks like Summer Movie League has officially become Fantasy Movie League. It looks quite fun. Here's how it works. You have an 8 screen theater. Every week you pick movies and have a budget/salary cap you have to stay under. Then you compete against other theaters in your league. It's fantasy football for movie people. Our league is Film Thugs 2015 and the password is Porterhouse. And remember, you can be a part of the show any time you wild like. How's that? All you have to do is call or e-mail us. If you live in the US, or any place that makes calling the US easy, just dial 512-666-RANT and leave us a voicemail. We will read the Google Voice transcript and play your message.
