Jane Buckley born in Derry, Londonderry in Northern Ireland, is a passionate storyteller who brings the complexities of her homeland's history to life. Inspired by her childhood during the Troubles - a deeply rooted conflict that took place from the late 1960's until the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Her ‘Stones Corner' series - Turmoil, Darkness, Light and Hope - cuts straight to the heart of one of Northern Ireland's darkest chapters. Jane writes to make sense of it all. To honour those who lived through it. To make sure it is not forgotten. Her work aims to shed light on a misunderstood chapter of history, fostering understanding and promoting healing. Ultimately her work is realistic and hard hitting story lines based around true events. Jane's next work, written for the US based Project Children, steps back to the powerful true story behind the initiative featured in the series. Between the seventies and nineties, 23,000 children from both sides of the divide were flown to the United States, welcomed into homes and given a taste of peace. It's a story of hope, healing and the quiet power of kindness. One child, one family. One Summer at a time. My guest this week is a very special human being, I called her an Earth Angel as that is exactly what Karen Olson is in the world. Through a small act of kindness in 1981 for an elderly homeless woman called Millie in New York City, it not only changed the trajectory of Karen's life, but also the lives of thousands of people affected by homelessness in the US. Karen's act of compassion came from a space of wanting to help others as She too had faced tragedy in her own childhood when her Mother took her own life when Karen was only 12. Always wanting to be a nurse, She was influenced otherwise until She found her purpose in helping others in a different way by setting up Family Promise in 1986 - a national non-profit organisation that helps homeless and low-income families. By 2016, Family Promise opened its doors in its 200th location. Through Karen's leadership, awareness and compassion, those affected by homelessness were now being seen and heard, the support that Karen's organisation offered helped them to find a home, offering safety and stability. This had a knock on effect in their education and careers. Only 6 years ago, Karen had a terrible accident that left her paralysed from the neck down, She has since learn to take steps and has nearly full movement back in her body apart from her right arm, but it hasn't stopped her from feeling grateful and still wanting to raise awareness. Her book - Meant for More - following your heart and finding your purpose shares her life, work and contribution to humanity. I applaud her in every way. In this deeply moving conversation, Tracy Martin shares her story of profound loss, resilience, and transformation. Having lost both her parents by the age of fifteen, and later facing a life-altering accident that changed everything she knew, Tracy's journey is one of courage and grace. Together, we explore what it means to adapt to broken and becoming, to find light in the darkness, strength in surrender, and purpose in the process of rebuilding. Tracy a paraplegic and full time wheelchair user since 1989, brings authenticity and depth to her storytelling. Her own journey of resilience and creativity shines through in every chapter of her new book - So Not Me - a book that resonates deeply with anyone who has faced adversity. Published by Orla Kelly Publishing. So Not Me is more than a novel, it is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of hope. Set against the backdrop of two fractured families forever altered by tragedy, So Not Me is told through three distinct voices: Faye, an 18-year old navigating life-changing injuries, Rob, her boyfriend, who speaks from beyond, and Faye's Higher Self, offering clarity and compassion. Delighted to have this wonderful conversation with my guest this week Caroline Conroy of Yoga Walks Ireland, I met Caroline when She attended one of my weekend retreats and I loved her energy and enthusiasm for life. In this conversation Caroline shares how as a young child She was aware of Spirit's presence in her life and was fascinated by them. It wasn't until She met her husband that She became more curious and started to learn more about the unseen world all around us and how disconnected we have become from ourselves and the world around us - seen and unseen. This led her on a journey of self-discovery and also brought her on learning more about the holistic aspects of healing, energy and awareness. We discuss how we can learn to find stillness in our lives and to anchor moments of joy and peace from everyday moments. Discover your 8th sense and the courage to be who you want to be. Caroline created Yoga Walks Ireland in 2018 after 10 years of owning and running a holistic therapy centre on the foot of the Galtee Mountains. All of her professional and personal experiences were brought together to build Yoga Walks Ireland and works with many sectors such as education, corporate, health and tourism. She also offers bespoke yoga walks for individuals and blends yoga, mindful walking, and the hidden stories of Ireland's wild and beautiful places. She leads groups along forest trails, ancient mountain paths and sacred sites, weaving in stretches, breathwork, meditations, and the magic of Irish folklore. The word Solstice comes from the Latin 'solstitium', meaning 'sun stands still', referring to the brief pause in the sun's journey before it begins to shift again. In this pause, we are invited to pause too. To breathe, to reflect and to honour both the light and the shadows that have shaped our paths. In Spiritual and energetic terms, the Summer Solstice is a celebration of the life force within and around us. It is the peak of the solar year, symbolising abundance, clarity, empowerment, growth and illumination. Just as nature is in full bloom, we too are asked: "“What within me is ready to be fully seen”?“Where am I ready to shine my light more brightly”?“What is reaching its full expression in my life”?In a world that often rushes from one thing to the next, the Summer Solstice offers a gentle, powerful invitation to slow down and align with the Earth's rhythms. Honouring this time might look like:Spending time in nature, soaking up sunlight with gratitudeLighting a candle or fire to symbolise your inner lightJournaling or reflecting on your journey so far this yearHolding ceremony or meditation to release what no longer serves and to set new intentionsCelebrating with others - dancing, singing, sharing meals, laughing and embodying joy. Most importantly, it's a time to celebrate yourself, all the seeds that you have planted, the growth you have cultivated, and the light you have carried through challenges. It is a moment to remember that you, too, are a radiant expression of the Divine, and your presence matters deeply. Enjoy my guided meditation and awaken your inner light. Rachel Crowder joins me on The Sharon Fitzmaurice Podcast this week. She is a qualified Nutrition and Health Coach with a deeply personal mission: to help women reclaim their energy, reduce chronic symptoms, and feel in control of their health—through gut-focused, whole-body nutrition. Her passion for this work is rooted in lived experience. Growing up as a young carer for her mother, who battled rheumatoid arthritis and related health challenges, Rachel saw first-hand how chronic illness can affect every part of a woman's life—and ripple through her family. With a long history of autoimmune conditions, heart disease, cancer, and stroke in her family, prevention and vitality became more than a passion—it became her purpose. After 20 years in the retail industry, Rachel retrained in nutrition and health coaching. Her journey deepened when her husband endured over a decade of unresolved digestive issues. It wasn't until Rachel discovered the power of gut health that everything changed. Through functional nutrition principles and root-cause strategies, his symptoms were finally resolved. Today, Rachel helps women—especially those navigating arthritis, autoimmune conditions, and hormone shifts—take back their health using practical, personalised nutrition and lifestyle changes. She believes that chronic illness doesn't have to be your story—and your body has more healing potential than you think. Rachel also gives you the top 5 foods that will benefit you each day, simple yet effective additions that will benefit your mind and body. Rachel is trying to not only educate her clients through her 12 week program, but also the medical profession who can help to support your well-being alongside conventional medicine. She will also be speaking to the Irish Nursing Association on nutrition and gut health. A wonderful conversation on my podcast today with Eoghan Roe from Claremorris, Co. Mayo in the West of Ireland. Eoghan is a teacher, fitness coach and breathwork facilitator in training. He founded Run, Walk, Talk which is a free social event aimed at combating loneliness by bringing people together. Eoghan shared how even though he is only 28, he had found himself feeling isolated from others in the past and struggled with a sense of connection. He realised the importance of connection to our overall well-being. He feels there is a real need for authentic connection in our communities and being able to communicate in a safe and supportive space. Stepping into the unknown can be uncomfortable, but once you do, you realise you have the courage to do new things - exactly what Eoghan did when he created his first event a few months ago. Eoghan has learned through breathwork training that he can anchor himself into the present moment and honour his emotions without getting stuck in them which showed up as tension in his body. He has a deep passion for deepening his connection to himself and others through the practise, and offering support to others in the future. Join Eoghan in his next RUN, WALK, TALK event: Sunday - 22nd June at 9.30am in The Land of the Giants, Claremorris. Everyone is welcome. Mohan Ranga Rao joined me this week on the podcast to share a beautiful conversation about how his life was forever changed by the birth and loss of his daughter, Yogita. He talks about how his life before Yogita's arrival and the moment he knew She was blind at only 4 days old, his life shattered. Mohan began a not just a medical journey but an emotional and existential one. He had to unlearn everything he thought he knew about strength, masculinity, and in the raw, unfiltered love of a Father who could not 'fix' his child. His first book: Inner Trek: A reluctant Pilgrim's Journey to Tibet was born of an unexpected calling. What began as a physical journey - a trek through the Himalayas, became a profound spiritual reckoning. The book is a reflection of that awakening, resonating with readers searching for meaning beyond the material world. His new book: Myopia: A Father's Journey into Love, Loss and Sight Beyond Vision, is not just a story of grief - it is a meditation on love stripped of all conditions, on pain as a force of transformation, on the kind of sight that only comes when the world as you know it disappears. Myopia does not offer easy resolutions or cliches about healing. It is raw, unflinching and honest about what it means to love deeply and lose completely. Mohan founded Amopia - a philosophy and community that helps individuals see suffering not as an enemy, but as a guide. Amopia blends science, spirituality and personal resilience into a framework for growth, offering courses, workshops and a community for those ready to engage with suffering as a path to wisdom. This week I sit down with Byddi Lee - Author, Screenwriter & Playwright from Armagh in Ireland. Byddi just launched her latest book - Barren - the story of a grieving woman who communicates with her miscarried child's spirit to uncover an Ancient Irish woman's struggle to survive during a climate catastrophe. In writing this book, Byddi has drawn on her own personal experience with baby loss and infertility, as well as her academic background in Environmental Biology. The historical narrative is based on the scientifically documented Hekla 4 Icelandic volcanic eruption in 2354 BC, which She studied while working in the Paleoecology Department in Queen's University in Belfast. With its dual timeline and sharp social commentary - Barren explores the complexities of identify and family roles entangled with motherhood and legacy, critiquing how we live and our relationship with the earth. It combines intimate, personal struggles with sweeping narratives of societal change to shed light on and hold a mirror to ancient and modern environmental crises. It gives a voice to women who aren't mothers for whatever reason, a growing population yet a silent and underrepresented community in today's society and literature in general. Byddi says "Writing the book has helped me on my healing journey and I hope that it also helps others to heal too" Join her for her Dublin Book Launch on 14th May in the https://irishwriterscentre.ie/ Check out her latest book and all her other work through her website: https://byddilee.com/ or https://www.buythebook.ie/product/barren/ Find her on social media: https://www.instagram.com/byddilee/ https://www.facebook.com/byddi https://www.linkedin.com/in/byddilee/ A special mention to Frances McKenna's artwork for the cover of Barren, find more about her work here https://www.francesmckennairishart.com/ This podcast is proudly partnered with https://intothewestadventures.com/ This is a public episode. My guest this week is the remarkable Conor Nolan, a 26 year old from Co. Cavan in Ireland who was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa when he was just 12 years of age. Conor speaks so openly about how his interest in sport and exercise led him to comparing himself to older sports people and as a child believed if he worked harder, lost weight that he would feel or perform better. He shares how counselling helped him and he went on to later write his own story in detail - his book 'Normal' was published in 2020. He now is an advocate for mental health and speaks regularly to young people in schools and colleges about normal mental health wellbeing. Along with his business partier Tiernan Harris, they are co-funded by the European Commission through the European Solidarity Corps for a year long project during which they collect surveys from students to gather their outlooks on mental health both before and after their talks. Conor's story is one of lived experiences and he shares tips and tools that have worked for him in his recovery. Please check out his work through their website: www.normalmentalwellbeing.com You can find Conor on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/conor_n7/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/conor-nolan-a4946717a/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/conor.nolan.3954 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@conor_n7 This episode is brought to you by https://www.instagram.com/retreats_ireland/ If you would like to be a guest on the show or sponsor an episode please contact Sharon direct through her website: https:www.sharonfitzmauricemindfulness.com

My guest this week is South African born Janine Schuller - a Sangoma (African Medicine Women) & Prophet, initiated traditionally in the townships of Cape Town, by both the Zulu and Xhosa Tribes. Although she lives in Ireland with her Irish husband, she returns to the townships most years to meet her Tata (African Father) and enter into ceremony with her Ancestors. Janine shares how She was called to be a Sangoma and the ceremonies that took place in the townships were not always welcoming, but She formed a new family and tribe. She also shares her personal challenges through miscarriages and how accepting She would not be a Mother has brought her peace in her life now. Janine is most passionate about helping people build a relationship with themselves (to trust their intuition); their Ancestors (to know where their messages are coming from and trust them) and with others (to be of service in their own unique way).  She shares her own experiences in hope that those listening find their own inner Gentle Warrior and lead their own way. Janine is qualified as a Creative Mindfulness Kids Practitioner, has a Major Award in Early Childhood and Care Education and is currently upgrading her Special Needs Assistance training.  Although she isn't 100% sure where this training is taking her and the additional training she may be taking on, she is confident she is stepping firmly into an Advocator Role.
