The typical prescription drug has an average of 69 side effects on the package insert, and Big Pharma isn't even trying to hide it. They broadcast the side effects on television, even going as far as telling us that we could die if we take their cocktail of pills.   The system is blatantly broken, and no free thinking, empowered human being listens to those commercials and wants to take a prescription. Sovereign individuals opt out of the system and take the path of optimization instead.   Can we take care of our health so effectively that we'd never need to take a single drug? In this episode, I'm joined by pharmacist and author of the #1 best selling book “The 21st Century Pharmacist”, Billy Wease. He talks about how he's disrupting his industry and preaching the message of optimization.   I don't believe in sick. Being sick is a choice, it is not your genetics. -Billy Wease     Three Things We Learned    -The tragedy of healthcare education Are students getting educated on optimization or actually being indoctrinated into a broken system?   -There's no optimization quick fix  If you've spent decades treating your body like a dumpster fire, how can a 90 day program undo all that damage?   -The most amazing fat loss tools we've ever been given  Why are bioregulators so heavily demonized in the press when their effectiveness is clear as day?   Guest Bio   Billy Wease is a pharmacist with over 30 years of clinical experience specializing in wellness and is the author of the #1 best selling book The 21st Century Pharmacist. His mission is to minimize the side effects prevalent in prescription and over-the-counter drugs by educating people about attaining optimal health by using food, natural supplementation, and exercise. Since graduating from the pharmacy program at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1990, Billy has opened three independent Prescriptions Plus Compounding Pharmacy locations in the Carolinas. He has received specialized training from the Professional Compounding Centers of America and earned an Advanced Fellowship in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine from the Metabolic Medical Institute. He is a co-owner and a coach at Core Fitness Kings Mountain. He is an adjunct professor at a private university in North Carolina, where he teaches an elective in the pharmacy school. Dr. Amato is passionate about finding cutting-edge, innovative ways to prevent and treat mental health disorders that have not responded to traditional interventions.  She received training in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and other non-invasive brain modulation techniques at the Brain Stimulation Laboratory of Medical University of South Carolina and has been providing TMS to patients in the region since 2015.  She has been providing IV ketamine therapy for treatment of depression and other mental health conditions since April 2016.  She is an integrative psychiatrist who looks to blend traditional treatment tools, like medication and talk therapy, with specialized integrative medicine testing, genetics, nutritional supplementation, and lifestyle education and interventions to design personalized treatment approaches that target the root causes of illness.  She is certified as a health care provider for FirstLine Therapy® through Metagenics and is participating in the Advanced Fellowship in Anti-Aging, Metabolic and Functional Medicine through the Metabolic Medical Institute of A4M. Dr. Amato believes that early intervention is critical when people are affected by emotional, behavioral, cognitive and learning disorders.  Mental health should be looked at in the context of an integrated mind-body approach.  Especially in cases of children and adolescents, early diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders is essential in promoting healthy development.

Edward L. Barnes, MD is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of North Carolina. Dr Barnes completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina, where he also served as a chief resident. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. While training in Boston, he earned Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Barnes then returned to the University of North Carolina to complete an Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. He specializes in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, and has contributed multiple articles and reviews in this area. What gets you up in the morning? Furthermore, what wakes you up in the middle of the night? Today, Dr. Edward Barnes shares why balancing your time combined with your passion is a winning combination for success. To avoid burnout, we must adapt strong time management skills early on in the game. On top of that, we must place importance on career paths that fit who we are—so we're not forcing ourselves into something that isn't in alignment with ourselves. He urges us to think with an open mind, embrace rejection as part of the process, and get comfortable with “prioritizing things in your bucket of tasks”. Pearls of Wisdom: 1. Find a career that fits who you are. 2. Find that one thing that excites you to wake up every morning or in the middle of the night. Approach each opportunity with an open mind and think outside the box. 3. Know how to prioritize things in your bucket of tasks. Find the right balance and know when to prioritize what and anticipate that there will be moments in your life when you will have to shift around the things in your bucket. 4. Find the match between your goals and the mentors in your life.
