Now that we are coming out of the pandemic, dating in person is back on again. What is trending on the dating scene and what to do about online “swiping” burnout? Kellee talks with Samantha Garcia, Bumble's Marketing Director for the Americas. She will share how to have both a better online (or app-driven) and off-line dating experience. Episode Type: Blog Reading Click here to donate to Madison's fund. Click here to donate to Jason's fund. --- In July, we — Jason & Madison — are going to Mexico to serve the local community by volunteering with our church team in local children's homes led by Back2Back Ministries. Your donation will make our mission possible. Money will not only help us get there, but it also funds the special projects undertaken while we're there. This trip is an opportunity for us — you included — to help the impoverished communities of Monterrey Mexico flourish by living the good news we proclaim about Jesus while serving the local community's children (often facing traumatic recovery and abandonment) in practical life-giving ways. "Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." – Anthony J. D'Angelo Continuing with the Action for the Oceans Series in this episode I have a really great chat with Silvia Cantu Bautista from Monterrey Mexico. Silvia is an Advanced PADI certified scuba diver and professional underwater photographer with a strong passion for marine conservation, youth education and storytelling for climate justice. In this episode, we dive into Silvia's Action for the Oceans campaign which is heavily focused on two main issues: community building and increasing ocean literacy across her country. In Mexico, 17 out of 32 states have a coast, which altogether comprises 57% of the country's land territory. Despite this, there are many communities that still live far away from the coast or which haven't had access to inclusive ocean literacy projects. For this reason, she wanted to help co-create virtual and physical spaces as well as networks that allows people who do not live near the oceans to learn more about marine environments and systems and support grassroots initiatives aimed at protecting marine environments and coastal communities. Feel free to check out Silvia's campaign and if you're interested in connecting with Silvia follow her on Instagram!

29. Quinta Real Monterrey Mexico Jane was flown to a nondescript square in the middle of the desert and then taken by a limousine to Quinta Real Hotel. She got there just before dawn while the gold dome of the hotel was still in all its splendor. She had been in luxurious hotels before, but this one was in a class of its own. She was taken to her room, and the bellhop refused a tip, he said something like she was especial. Her room had a sitting room, a bedroom with two king beds, and her bathroom had marble sinks that ran continually in a waterfall through three bowls. She figured out that when she wanted to use them, she pulled a lever, and water flowed into the sink flush with the counter. Another lever slowly adjusted the water temperature. She quickly formed the opinion that it was more beautiful than practical. Her bathroom had a toilet, and in another room a large tub, and in a third room, water came out of a bowl in the ceiling and onto a tile-covered floor that had a central drain. Her entire room was filled with the gentle sound of a mountain stream. She couldn’t resist; she stripped and walked into the shower letting the water immerse her in warmth. Jane stayed in the shower for twenty minutes, then came out, still wet, and wandered around her apartment. She then ordered up a pot of coffee and some fruit. She found a white robe in the closet and put it on. Five minutes later, someone knocked on her door. She expected them to bring in the coffee and fruit, but instead, they motioned her to a small room a few doors down. A chef and a woman put several bowls of cut fruit in front of her and poured her coffee. She poured in a generous portion of creme and dug into the fruit. In passable English, they asked her if she wanted anything else, and she asked to take the pot of coffee and the pitcher of cream into her room. They insisted that they would bring it to her, and she headed back to her room. Once in her room, she went over to the computer on the desk and turned it on. She brought up a chrome browser and signed on to her google account. Everything looked normal but she wondered how she would know if her account had been hacked and if it was being monitored. She was pleased to see that she had three monitors. She signed into a programming site she often used, and it was clear the moment she logged on that a year of code and thousands of subroutines were gone. A small knock at the door let her know the coffee was being delivered. She yelled, come in, but then had to get up and open the door anyway. The lady that had just served her brought in a tray with the pot of coffee and cream and more fruit. She had her put it by the computer and then sat back down, anger swelling up inside of her that someone had ransacked her code. Lisa had gotten too big to be on this site, but a lot of subroutines for Lisa had been developed here. A lot of the code she used to hack other sites was missing. listen for more ... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/alamo/message

Born in NYC and raised between Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and the Bronx, by her mother who is a creative renaissance woman. Set in Cali, Colombia, it focuses on two young AfroColombians: Valerie, a trans woman, and Macu, a queer nonbinary self-described Marica. They express their eloquent narratives on the struggles of navigating the world as Black, queer and trans in Colombia, as well as their activism. In her DJ'ing she focuses on fusing Latin urban genres, hip hop and alternative rock. As a singer/songwriter she is working on a bilingual Latin Urban EP and released her well-received 1st single “U Could Be” in March of 2020. She co-hosted the Afrolatino Festival 2017 Concert and is a TEDx Women-Mexico City speaker. The internationally trending hashtags #MaybeHeDoesntHitYou and its spanish language version #QuizaNoTePegue on how gendered non-physical abuse manifests in daily life were also authored by her. They lent a voice to tens of thousands of women sharing their stories and experiences with abuse across twitter, facebook and instagram. This led to her TEDx talk in Mexico on the subject, as well. She has been featured in a number of publications such as The New York Times, Latina, Complex, The Fader, Vibe, Cosmopolitan, Time, BBC, and many more for her sociocultural analysis and art. In her writing, dynamic use of social media, and at speaking events she employs Indigenous style storytelling, no holds barred analysis of abuse culture, colonialism, social power dynamics and critique of media and pop culture. She aims to pick apart white supremacist capitalist hetero-patriarchy from an anticolonial AfroLatina perspective. With gratitude, she has accepted an Advocacy and Leadership award at Afrolatino Festival 2017, an #AfrolatinasWhoRock award for being an Afrolatina revolutionizing the world around her from aintilatina.com in October 2015, and an ‘¡Ahora! award' for commitment to organizing and demonstrating the necessity for ethnic studies as a praxis for a better future en la comunidad, from Northwestern University's Alianza and Latina and Latino Studies Program in May 2016. http://paypal.me/zahirakvenmo: zahira-kelly --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-full-set-podcast/support

8-6-19 Tonight we’re going to Monterrey, Mexico to talk with Raúl de la Garza, owner of Freya Brewery. Raúl started making mead on the summer of 2008. It all started with questioning what did the vikings drink back in the day (His family has Danish roots and they’re into history and food). After learning about mead and finding out that no one was making/selling mead in northern Mexico (Monterrey) he decided to start making it himself, “if they did it back then, how hard can it be?” He said to himself lol, so he got a big tamales pot, some local honey and bread yeast and started fermenting. The curiosity turned into a hobby and he kept making around 5 gals of mead (mostly traditional mead) each month since then. In 2013, while still in university, Raúl went to Sweden to take a summer entrepreneurship class. There he had to develop a product and make a business plan, also make numbers and sale forecast, basically an investor pitch for a meadery. Since he knew all the numbers and process it was quite easy to make something that sounded right. He won second place with that project (it was a team project). Fast forward to 2015, he graduated from uni (mechanical electrical engineering) and brought some bottles of mead to the party. One of his godparents was there, his son recently started a business selling craft beer, he tried the mead and loved it, then said Raúl should definitely sell it at his store. Raúl was puzzled, should he take the entrepreneur road? He knew it was going to be hard, since he lacked the money to do the amount of investment a meadery needs. After a couple of days thinking about it, he decided to go for it, and hasn’t looked back since. Pitched the plan to his parents and they decided to invest in the business, they are now a family owned meadery and added a friend of his to the team in 2018. They formalized the business around may 2016 and started selling mead on September. Got our first medals on 2017 (3 golds and 1 silver) then 11 medals on 2018, and 2 of those were for best small brewery in Mexico (one from Chile and one from Mexico). This year they got 3 more medals from Costa Rica and are waiting to see how things went in Chile (they’ll know at the end of August). Today they have 3 yearly products and plan to expand that to 5 or 6. All of them are sessions (low AVB). They have a traditional (7%), a hibiscus one (7%), a rosemary one (3.5%), and plan to introduce one with hops (7%) and one with berries (also 7%). They went for session meads to help introduce mead to a bigger audience and to get a faster turnover, standard meads tend to sell a bit slower than sessions, and certainly take a bit more time to make. Freya Brewing is located in Monterrey, Mx, and produces around 2100 liters of mead monthly, they keg and bottle meads in 12 oz beer bottles. All their meads are carbonated. Our true reality is a Spiritual Kingdom, and in this Kingdom, we are all One and nothing is missing. But when the ego made the world, the mind fell asleep and forgot this Oneness. In its place, a world of separation was projected in which the idea of loss seems to make sense. Now must the Holy Spirit convince us that loss is impossible, and that as we awaken, everyone gains. Open your heart to the Spirit, and you will be shown that no one can lose and everyone must gain by your decision to awaken. This recording of David Hoffmeister (with Spanish translation) took place the afternoon of January 19, 2017 at a full-day workshop in Monterrey, Mexico.
How to Find Inner Peace - Monterrey, Mexico, Part 2We accept the world that we perceive. But everything we perceive is a projection of our own unconscious mind that needs to be forgiven. A Course in Miracles is a direct pathway back to God that teaches us how to forgive. The goal of ACIM is not about making a better life in the world, but about letting the world as we perceive it fall apart. These necessarily involves letting go of control, and as we pray to be shown the world through the light of the Holy Spirit, this becomes easier and easier. Peace becomes our natural experience. We experience miracles. And we become peaceful demonstrations of the love of Christ. This recording of David Hoffmeister (with Spanish translation) took place the afternoon of January 19, 2017 at a full-day workshop in Monterrey, Mexico.
