Peggy Sue got married. But what if she didn't? What if, by some magical force, she was transported back to 1960 to relive high school? What if didn't end up marrying Nicolas Cage and his wang, and instead married an edgelord beatnik or an angsty nerd? These are the questions asked by this film directed by…*checks notes* Francis Ford COPPOLA?!?! Whew, okay, I couldn't have called that. Anyway, David and Justus also have some questions about Peggy Sue, like why didn't she also use her time to stop the Kennedy assassination and the Manson murders? And is this film that is, once again, inexplicably directed by the same guy who made the Godfather the Greatest Movie Ever Made? Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) is directed by Francis Ford Coppola and stars Kathleen Turner, Nicolas Cage, Barry Miller, Catherine Hicks and Joan Allen. Music: “Fractals” by Kyle Casey and White Bat Audio
Emilio, Madeline, and Julian continue their High School Movies cycle with a "Mise-Unseen" entry on Alan Parker's 1980 classic, "Fame." Coincidentally a film that none of the trio had seen previously, they look in depth at its ensemble-based depiction of a full four years at New York City's High School of the Performing Arts. Amidst their many talking points, Julian brings a unique perspective to the film as the native New Yorker of the group, while Emilio spins a discussion from the film's "Rocky Horror Picture Show" sequence, and Madeline grades the vowels of every choir singer we see on screen. All three also continue relating their own high school experiences to those shown in the film, and revel in the details of its iconic "Hot Lunch Jam" and street-dancing sequences. They hope it'll be the best experience possible, but whatever you think, one thing's for sure: they just wanna dance! USEA podcast host Nicole Brown is joined by Dr. Barry Miller of the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab and Catherine Winter of Ride EquiSafe for an important, informative, and engaging discussion about helmet safety. For more than a decade, the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab has investigated helmets in football, cycling, equestrian sports, and more, collecting more than 2 million data points related to injury and biomechanics research. More information is available at this link Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings (vt.edu).
Barry Miller had been living in the TRNC for around 10 years and has moved into a house in the country. He thought at one point, during the pandemic, he'd leave but he tells Sara and Roger he couldn't be happier.
En este episodio conversamos sobre la película del año 1988, “The Last Temptation of Christ” del director Martin Scorsese, protagonizada por Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel y Barbara Hershey.
If you ride horses and have been on the internet in the past two months, chances are good you've heard about “that” helmet study -- specifically, the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab's Equestrian STAR Helmet Rating Project. On the plus side, we learned that a fancy helmet wasn't necessarily any safer than a basic, no frills (and much less expensive) helmet when it comes to protecting against brain injury and concussion. On the not so plus side, many of us suddenly found ourselves with lower scoring helmets and no clue what to do next. We had questions that we hadn't seen answered yet - not just about the study and its findings, but about helmets in general. Host Caroline Culbertson sat down with Dr. Barry Miller and Sydney Moriarity to tackle things like: What should the average rider take away from this study? How do riding helmets compare to helmets in other sports? What does Sydney, a rider herself, make of these findings and how could it inform our helmet shopping approach? What about helmets for different disciplines and levels? (Yes, there are differences!) Dr. Miller joined the VA Tech Helmet lab in 2018 as their Director of Outreach and Business, and was a part of the study from start to finish. Sydney Moriarty received her BS degree in Neuroscience from VA Tech and brought her first hand, practical experience to the table as an accomplished rider in the Hunter/Jumper discipline. In this discussion, we also dive into: The study's methodology, and what the STAR rating means What was so surprising about some of the outcomes High Energy Impact vs Low Energy Impact falls, and why each type plays a huge role in helmet construction and safety How hair length and style plays into helmet fit and safety (spoiler alert, long hair is ok!) Why you probably shouldn't put your helmet in the dishwasher… How helmet companies are responding to the study, and what next steps for the sport might be If you would like to see the full study, including the methodology, please head to the official Equestrian STAR Helmet Rating Project results and documentation page. Here's a summary of how the final Equestrian STAR Ratings was determined by Dr. Stefan Duma.

This week on Fabulous Film & Friends it's round four of the seemingly endless Coppola v. Scorsese Film Battle, where we shift gears downward with two problematic, others might say misunderstood, passion projects in both maestros' respective canons, as we compare Martin Scorsese's 1988 semi-Biblical epic The Last Temptation of Christ, starring Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, Barry Miller, Andre Gregory, Irvin Kershner and David Bowie to Francis Ford Coppola's take on Bram Stoker's Dracula, released in 1992 and starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Cary Elwes, Richard E. Grant, Bill Campbell and Tom Waits. Joining me in this epic clash of blood, life, death and resurrection are my sister Roseanne Caputi, actor, photographer, and erstwhile cycle-jockey, Gordon Alex Robertson and celebrated author, producer and everyone's favorite gadfly George Young who has just announced that his Vampire-themed novel DracuLAND is due to hit the store shelves Halloween of 2022. With so much ground to cover here are two brief synopses:The Last Temptation of Christ reimagines the life and impact of Jesus Christ through the lens of an unwilling, doubtful, mood swinging, weakling who has less sense of purpose than your average over-priced New York Plumber. And with all the Brooklyn accents in the film, you'd think the plumbers' union delegation took a wrong turn at Poughkeepsi and ended up in The Holy Land. Meanwhile Bram Stoker's Dracula breaks up the legendary novel about the infamous Blood-sucking Count Dracula into three distinct, competing and non-complimentary films: 1) a not so erotic tale of swooning eroticism and temptation, 2) a keystone cops movie starring four bland and bumbling supporting actors who look and act exactly alike, save the one who sounds like he stepped off of a surfer turned bank robbers film and 3) a glib action movie starring an entertaining, beef-eating German vampire hunter) Are these misunderstood gems or just flat out turkeys?Find out!
Marissa and Listler are back in the States, and hiding out in the back of a thrift store in Brooklyn, hosted by Listler's old theatre friend Barry Miller (Jeff Hiller). Barry joins in for Hot Topix, and we learn a little more about his and Listler's past, while Marissa breaks Barry down and builds him back up again for Spotlight On.

Obstinées : Small Axe : Mangrove - I Care A Lot - Peggy Sue S’est Mariée Petit comité, trois chroniqueurs, trois films ! Barry Miller describes his repatriation back to the TRNC, having been stranded in UK at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
Who was Fr. Barry Miller? What is the main thrust of his argument from existence to God? How does he understand the doctrine of divine simplicity? Dr. Elmar Kremer joins us to answer these questions and more. The Classical Theism Podcast aims to defend Catholic Christian ideas in conversation. With the help of various guests, I defend three pillars of the Catholic Christian worldview: (1) the God of classical theism exists, (2) Jesus is our Messiah and Lord, and (3) He founded the Catholic Church. We place a strong emphasis on the first pillar, defending classical theism, drawing upon the work of Thomistic philosopher Dr. Edward Feser and many others. It's the most expensive, least worth-it Baretta episode in history: Season 4, Episode 4, "The Sky Is Falling," which stars Barry Miller as a beset teenage prostitute, Dennis Quaid as his pimp, and a lot of '70s ideas about who's considered a victim. Oh, and an uneven distribution of AAAAACKTING! that may shortchange Dennis Quaid. Television curator at the Paley Center David Bushman joins me to discuss bad '70s pacing, ideal casting for Quaid, whether such a dark role on episodic TV could have hurt Quaid's career, and more. This time out, Elise Moore and David Fiore set forth to explore the interior distances within the human psyche. Along the way, we question the proprietary nature of memory and gesture toward a theory of romantic stoicism. First up is Francis Ford Coppola's wistful PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, starring Kathleen Turner, a young Nicolas Cage (voice-acted by Nicolas Cage's most impish impulses), Jim Carrey, Catherine Hicks, Joan Allen, Kevin J. O'Connor, Barry Miller, Don Murray, Maureen O'Sullivan, Leon Ames, and the immortal John Carradine. Then we venture into the twilit battleground between fruitfully incompatible auteurs Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry for a discussion of ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. The movie stars Jim Carrey (decidedly less manic in this one), Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, Jane Adams, David Cross, and Tom Wilkinson. We hope you enjoy the program! Please don't hesitate to contact us, either at anotherkindofdistance@gmail.com, on our Facebook Page, our Twitter account (@TimeTravelFilms), or David's Tumblr (where you'll find a bunch of images). We're now on all of the podcast delivery services, including iTunes and Stitcher, so please rate/review us there, if you can - we really want to get this podcast fluxing!
