Every now and then we like to Rewind to one of our favorite episodes, normally when one of us is too ill to record or has gone on vacation. At least one of those things has happened this week so we bring you one of our all time favorite episodes...Brian, Blake, and Richard were joined by a special guest for this episode of Chasing Tone Rewound - Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters...We have an extra special guest this week and Brian may or may not fanboy a little bit. It is of course Chris Shiflett who is a monster player with a huge back catalogue of work - including playing in one of Brian's favorite bands, the Foo Fighters. Chris has some very cool new music coming out and also has his own podcast, Walking The Floor, and we talk about some of his escapades including a rare first hand peek into international tour bus life.Chris is a super nice dude, and his stories are absolutely fascinating. The guys talk about how Blake first discovered his music. They also go deep into Chris' love of classic rock and roll, and country music, and the influences that drove him to explore country based rock further. The guys then go right back to Chris' roots and his teenage years and find out all about his earliest tastes and influences and his signature Fender guitar. Conversation turns to his different rigs and then pedals...Brian may have found his new happy place amongst all this Foo tinged pedal talk.Chris has an idea for a custom delay pedal, and gives the guys an entertaining demonstration, and it just so happens Brian knows a guy. As well as being a fantastic player and all round legend, Chris loves football, sorry "soccer", and Richard and he share a love for the same football team so speak in what Blake and Brian can only describe as a completely foreign language. Brian's head spins, and he has fallen in love with one of Chris' solo songs "Born & Raised" so plays a little clip which instantly wins Blake over too. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 506 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!There  is an unharmonious introduction to this episode and Richard finds the weirdest thing to be envious of and Brian admits to ramping up his plugging. Richard was surprised to learn that one of his favorite bands didn't make it big in the US during the lifespan of their lead singer and this leads onto a debate about awesome tones. And Guinness. In a surprising revelation we discover that Brian Wampler doesn't set the rules for the global second hand market.Have you ever played Fortnite? Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 505 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!  Brian questions Richard's commitment, and Richard questions Brian's fashion choices before regaling us with more royal tales of DIY pedal construction. Brian teaches Richard about what he made without making him feel more stupid than he already does. Kinda. He also tells us about how he made the enclosure and broke a rule but he is very happy with the result. Brian has a genius hack. Richard was on the Guitar Dads podcast the day the new Line 6 POD Go express was launched and it's got him thinking whilst Brian sweeps for mines and shares his views on the aesthetics. There is some discussion abut the history of Line 6 hardware with the fabled Guitarport and an important lesson from history. Richard apologizes for his transgressions in a previous episode and struggles to speak coherently. Do you still buy guitar magazines? The guys talk about why they think printed magazines are still more than relevant today and you may be surprised by their views. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 504 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake has been drinking from the special cabinet again and Richard is contemplating a new hobby and thinks he saw one of the best demos he has ever seen for the new Ego 76. Brian learns a new technique for equipment usage and it shatters his mind. Richard tells us of how he recently reconnected with someone who was also making DIY pedals and reflects upon legendary tales of yore. You don't need a bicycle if you have a horse according to our friend from Portland, and Richard laments Brian's recent decisions and tries to shut him up. The industry reacts to the death of the Bob Heil, inventor and innovator, and the guys look back a little at his legacy and his most famous product, the Heil Talk Box. Epiphone have released an expensive new 335 and the guys are obliged to discuss it in detail and Blake has quite the tale to tell. Richard tries to invent a new game and fails with spectacularly mediocre results. Meanwhile Brian is lusting after amplifiers and manoeuvring skilfully but becomes alarmed at words that fall out of Blake's mouth. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 503 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Richard has seen a film about the history of Amplifiers recently and he is dumbstruck that he is the only one of the trio that has even heard of it whilst Brian criticizes his accent. Richard also discusses a large legal issue facing Tik Tok and the use of certain music in their fun data mining social app. This turns into a discussion about AI video creation and a very poor Wonka based experience in Scotland. Wampler are releasing a new pedal and Brian elucidates in a kind of random fashion. He may have leaked this pedal on another podcast recently but with some gentle prodding he goes into great detail. This episode is being released twelve hours before the official release so it's kinda an exclusive for our awesome listeners. Sorta. Kinda. Richard bought an inexpensive new pedal and is super happy.  Do you use a lightweight rig for gigging or do you take your full pedalboard? The guys chat about this common dilemma and Brian makes some suggestions before giving us his best Jon Bon Jovi impression. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 502 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!It's DIY Tues.. (checks notes) Wednesday! Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 501 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Brian and Blake question Richard's genetics and open up discussing the spectacular 500th episode and Travis gets the blame for everything as we take a fascinating (not) look into the world of podcast production. Richard has DIY questions so Blake take a nap and Brian gives us all some tips on safety at the soldering station. He's very happy with his latest enclosure and the guys talk about different ways of making DIY labels and prints.  Blake put a post out recently and it caused a minor furore on the Internet so we dig down into the history of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock and try and figure out what makes them different.  Richard tries to sell Brian on the influence of The Kinks to heavy metal and music in general and fails spectacularly. What is it that differentiates Metal from the other genres? Is it the tones or is it the riffs?  The guys try and figure it out but largely go off in different tangents.  The conversation stays heavily focused on the music that we all grew up to and there are various points of interest. Richard saw the new H.E.R. Stratocaster and absolutely loves it and it is swiftly added to the list. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 499 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake is back with us after an extended stint at NAMM and his voice is registering somewhere between Bane and Batman. Richard makes his feelings known much to Brian's amusement. Was this the best NAMM for several years? It sounds like it might have been and the guys chat about what this means for the guitar industry in general. Richard talks about some of the things he spotted including what he believes to be one of the world's biggest rude jokes.  Brian has a new mixer and he and Richard have a new pedal - the Keeley Muse Driver - and they both love it.  Richard is a big fan of the design and tells us why. The guys try and pull a prank on Brian and it fails miserably so they make more NAMM observations. Brian loses his mind. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 498 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!We start off with some talk about the genetics of weightlifters and Ozzy Osbourne and somehow the two are related. Brian is looking forward to a week off from the world as he is not going to NAMM and Richard laments his lack of popularity.  His eye was turned by the new Keeley Muse Driver and completely fails to understand how it works. But he loves it. Richard purchased the new EHX Golden Big Muff but is uncertain as to whether he made the cut - and you will have to wait until next week to find out whether he was successful. There is also a new pedal from Warm audio and the guys puzzle over how they avoid copyright issues before going on a completely unqualified legal debate.   The Smashing Pumpkins have had to employ full time staff to deal with the guitarist applications they have received and the guys roundly mock this scenario. Joe Bonamassa had an unusual way of dealing with a noisy neighbour issue and this brings Blake much amusement. Brian and Richard are joined by infamous Youtube creator KDH for a special episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Brian invited Youtube creator and fellow gear nerd KDH onto the show and both he and Richard are astonished by how young he is - and by extension how old they are. He tells us about his earliest memories and the early inspirations that got him into playing, nerding out over gear, and making Youtube content. He tells us about his  band Walker and his 1980's Hard Rock influences which is music to Brian's ears. Richard apologizes in advance for any cultural reference point based crimes that Brian may be about to commit before jumping into what influenced KDH to form a particular investigative style.Richard is suffering from the Covid and also manages to completely misjudge everything. The conversation turns into an interesting look at an angle that the guys have never really looked at before and it makes Richard challenge his own views and mentally implode. We touch on some of the infamous controversial videos that KDH has published and learn some disturbing facts as we gaze into the abyss that is the guitar industry as it gazes back at us. Brian is intrigued by KDH's video production methodology and asks about how he comes up with new content while also finding ways to keep it interesting as Richard fires off back handed compliments and generally misinformed nonsense. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Wampler have released limited editions of two of their most popular products from the past, the Tweed'57 and the Black'65 "Amp in a Box" pedals, and Brian breaks down a little bit of the history of how they came to be. He also makes a number of potentially foolish video based confessions. Brian explains the core properties of the tone-stacks of the amp's these were based around, and how these pedals are a little different then normal drive pedals. He also explains the subtle improvements with the newer versions vs the originals, the unique switching modes, and the pedal gain structures - before hinting at a special set of videos...Richard has unusual pedal related habits and breaks them down whilst also telling the guys about the design changes on the new pedals. He has also been using a pedal he created himself on his rig and it has made him very very happy, and he made a new Fuzz pedal too and it was perhaps his most successful circuit build ever. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake has been struggling with various household appliances and Brian has helpful diagnostic information while Richard provides an interesting view on electrical safety differences between certain countries. There is an update to a previous story regarding a famous gear Youtuber / Retailer and how the British advertising authorities reacted and what that means moving forward.   Richard provides an overview of his latest pedal DIY experiments and reveals his first ever pedal (built from a kit - what a cheat!)...and he has plans for the future. Naturally he made some noobish errors but luckily Brian was on hand to roundly mock him and provide good advice. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Brian and Blake come at Richard with some stereotyping and then Richard confesses he has been listening to some country music and some classic American rock. Is this a negative reality inversion? Meanwhile Blake tells us about a recent vacation where he got to play a guitar that needed serious setup. Brian, Richard, and, (checks notes), Jake are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake is away to Sweetwater for some sort of content creator jamboree so we are blessed to be joined by the giant intellect of Jake Steffes, Wampler's top engineer, and he has some grievances to air.  Richard is intrigued to hear about Jake's early years, how he got into electronics and how he wound up making awesome pedals via Brian's legendary deck and fishpond.Brian and Richard have a genius idea for a new sport. Sorry, not genius, whats the word I'm looking for? Idiotic. Yes Idiotic. The guys then take a look at the history of one of Wampler's best selling pedals,  the Ethereal, which was one of Jakes proudest achievements at the time despite the challenges of the limited interface. Richard also drops a large hint before Brian completely destroys him. Paul Reed Smith have announced the Myles Kennedy signature guitar which looks somewhat like a telecaster, and so the guys talk about it. Richard is currently not a fan of the aesthetics, but he may be swayed as time heals all shocks, and admits he would be up for trying one. There is some Bass talk, and there is band talk, because Jake happens to be a fantastic player in an awesome band!
