Before moving into lecturing, Ben was a research associate at The University of Nottingham on the Steps to Active Kids (STAK) project that sought to evaluate the impact of a school-based physical activity programme on outcomes including self-efficacy and obesity risk factors. Ben is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has a Postgraduate diploma in teaching in the lifelong learning sector. After graduating from York St John University on a BA (Honours) degree in Sport Studies and Psychology, Ben completed an MSc in Sport Psychology at the same institution. Mustafa is Associate Professor of Sport and Performance Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. His main area of research is on individual, team and organisational resilience in elite sport. Mustafa has a background in teaching and research with most of his research focusing on the psychology of sporting and performance excellence, specifically looking at resilience in high achievers in sport and business. Mustafa also works with coaches and organisations helping them to develop resilience in athletes and teams. We talk about a brilliant paper led by Ben and co-authored by Mustafa and Dr Chris Saward and Dr Julie Johnston entitled “Exploring the behavioral indicators of resilience in professional academy youth soccer”. The study offers insight into the observable behaviours characterising resilience in youth soccer. Participants identified 36 resilience behaviours, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the concept in this specific context. The results provide a platform to support practitioners in observing resilience behaviours and structuring practices for resilience assessment and development. The findings of this study can support youth soccer players in reflecting on their behavioural responses to in-game stressors, and thus better understand how and when they demonstrate resilience.

Today Biodiversity Net Gain becomes the law in England. It means that any developer building ten or more homes must not just replace the biodiversity they've destroyed, but have to show a 10% net gain over what was there before. The net gain can be on the housing estate, or builders can buy a biodiversity unit from a landowner. If that's not possible they can get a (more expensive) biodiversity credit from the Government, which will then invest in habitat projects across the nation. Wherever it is, it must be managed for nature for 30 years. But the wildlife trusts say the BNG ambition is too low, and there should be a 20% net gain for nature. Farming is going through a tough time; prices, the supermarkets, massive changes in public subsidy systems, endless rain, or drought. The word many use a lot is 'challenging' and this week we're going to look at the challenge of running a farming business. We start with an overview from Martin Hanson, Head of Agriculture at HSBC UK.A rescue plan for nature is being drawn up in The Ashdown Forest in Sussex. The project could see rare plants and animals including nightingales, turtle doves, pine martens and beavers being restored to the landscape. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

This one has been over a year in the making! I had the opportunity to sit down with Mark and Dan Gooday of Ashdown Engineering to chat at GearFest and we had an absolutely incredible chat! Ashdown is a UK based amplifier company that is most widely known for their innovations in the bass amplification market, and the iconic VU Meter adoring their equipment. Mark starts off the discussion by diving into his history as a driving force behind Trace Elliot, and we dive into the nuances of running a manufacturing operation. Dan also chimes in and talks about his story of joining the family business, helping form the brand identity, the "Ashdown Forest" and a whole lot more. This week we’re talking about passementerie art with Elizabeth Ashdown. The show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Typically, when passementerie is discussed, the focus is on decorative trimming such as tassels, braids, and fringes. This time, we are taking the discussion to a whole new level because Elizabeth combines passementerie techniques, weaving, and thread […]
Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake is back from Sweetwater's gearfest and he is quite excited to share the many random shenanigans he has been involved in including participating in various manly exercises with Dovydas. He's also hung out with pretty much everyone who is anyone in the gear world and dishes up all the juicy gossip. Well. Kinda. Blake also got to try out the new PRS T-Style guitar and has views - and Brian admits he is open to trying one. Brian's been messin' with "Eye of the Tiger" and also he's been messin' with the guys.Blake has also been hanging with the guys from Shure and has some microphonic knowledge to impart with us all before the guys look at a controversial subject - acoustic guitars with printed relic'ing...and then we have a podcast first...a live gear reveal Richard watched a weekend's worth of Glastonbury and has some views that may or may not be both baseless and controversial. But generally he really enjoyed it and was surprised by his favorite act of the weekend and refreshed by the simple act of discovering a couple of new bands (well - new to him). Richard's also been playing with his Soldano Miniamp and a Wampler Ethereal and loves it very much. Oh, AI pedals, thats a thing too. Compressed cabbage, Live guitar unboxing, Guns and Roses, The Teskey Brothers, Twerking, Ashdown engineering, We love guitar shops...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show
The group Clare walks with see Ashdown Forest as a national treasure in its own right – and largely an unsung one. They think it's remarkable that this ten square miles of open access land has survived, only thirty miles south of London. Estate agents in the past even described it as ‘Scotland in Sussex'. A local resident and podcaster Eka Morgan is keen to reconnect visitors from far and wide back to the natural world of Ashdown Forest. Many of the 1.5 million annual visitors don't understand that it's actually not a forest at all, but a heath – one of the rarest habitats in the world, rarer than tropical rainforest. So, she is using audio to tell stories of the Forest with a podcast. Joining Eka on the walk are Tom Forward a wildlife guide and bird mimic, James Adler, who was born on a heathland nature reserve and heads the Conservators of Ashdown Forest. He is at the forefront of developing the centenary celebrations of Winnie-the-Pooh in 2026; and Kari Dunbar, whose new job focuses on raising dog owners' awareness of the impact of dogs in wildlife habitats – she has two dogs herself. In this week's episode, Zoey shares the case of Pamela Shelley, a woman from Ashdown, Arkansas. Pamela was found, shot, in her boyfriend's Texas home in 2001 after getting in an argument with her boyfriend, Ronnie. Pam and her two kids were set to move back to Arkansas with her first husband and the father of her children that same day due to friction in the household between Ronnie and Pam's daughter. While Pam survived the ride to the hospital, she died the next day. Ronnie's family told police that Pam had been suicidal because she loved Ronnie and wanted to stay with him, but she was afraid of her children being taken away from her. They claimed that Pam had taken her own life because she felt torn between two worlds. And the Medical Examiner agreed, and the case was ruled a suicide. However, in 2008 and again in 2012 the case was looked into, and due to the work of the TV Show "Cold Justice", the case was open once more. But before we get into that, Robin's Something Southern this week is teaching us about the prominent river type of the south, the Blackwater River. Also, Zoey was laid off in May and she shares that information with us. This week, in Ashdown, Arkansas, a strange night unfolds, from what seems like a typical Friday night of fish stick eating, and drinking at the local bar, for a mother & teenage son, living in a Texarkana area trailer. The son, a 17 year old dropout, turned welder comes home to a bloody scene, that looks like it's straight out of a horror movie. The police think they have their man, with a married, sometime boyfriend, with blood in his trunk, until everything changes, when a wild note is sent to the police, with both threats, and valuable info! Along the way, we find out that you might not want to be Texarkana's longest serving band, that when there are skull pieces in your living room, that's certainly a problem, and sometimes motive isn't all that important!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports!
