Send us a textIn this episode Claire joins me; a mum of five and midwife, whose feeding journeys have been anything but straightforward. After breastfeeding her first baby with ease for a year, she assumed it would be the same with the rest—but life had other plans. When her second baby needed surgery just days after birth, she found herself expressing around the clock. Then came her third, who struggled to latch for six long weeks due to an uncoordinated suck reflex. And just when she thought her family was complete, peri-menopause masked her usual menstrual cycle and she found out she was pregnant with twins—whilst in her final year of training to become a midwife. Born premature and during the height of COVID, her twins needed naso-gastric tubes and weeks of careful feeding, all while she juggled three young children at home.We talk about the exhaustion of trying to keep everything going when there's no time to stop, how sleep deprivation crept into every part of her life, and the moment she realised her mental health was spiraling. Claire shares the raw reality of feeling like she was just surviving hour by hour, how COVID restrictions left her isolated, and the overwhelming relief of being admitted to a mother and baby unit with her twins—a place where she could finally breathe after four sleep deprived months.Claire also opens up about the emotional toll of pumping, how the sound of the pump became almost unbearable. We dive into the idea of enough—how pumping for six months with her twins had to be enough, even when it didn't feel like it. And how, despite everything, she found a way to move forward, making peace with a journey that didn't go as planned but still led to deep connection with her babies. All this and so much more in today's episode. So grab a cuppa, snuggle in with ya bubba, and let's dive in.Get 10% off Katie's courses - use code POD10 at checkout Pregnant or in the first few weeks after birth: The Feeding Couch For health professionals and birth workers: Breastfeeding & Lactation: the fundamentals online course Please support the show! Dr. Carole Keim talks about breast and bottle feeding and what works to make both types of feeding more comfortable and efficient. She recommends listening to the information on both types of feeding even if one or the other method has already been decided on because babies can have a preference. Pumping is a good option to pursue in addition to breastfeeding so the baby can get used to bottle feeding in the first four months. It opens the option of going back to work or leaving the baby with a relative if needed.Dr. Keim explains what works best for accessible clothing, breast pads, nipple covers, and nipple cream and what items aren't really needed. She highlights the different kinds of pumps available and which options work best in which scenario. Her advice is focused on the products that truly help and make life with a new baby easier so time and money are not wasted on items that aren't as useful overall. She shares practical tips with each product. Hello and welcome back to The Night Feed. Tonight, I spoke with Laura Bottiglieri, a Paediatric Feeding Specialist who shared some amazing insights and tips on feeding and weaning. I think you'll find the conversation useful no matter what stage of the feeding journey you're on. Enjoy! Here's Laura's details: It was such a pleasure to join The Nightfeed Podcast and share the journey behind Milk to Mealtime, my approach to feeding therapy, and my passion for supporting families to create positive and nourishing mealtime experiences. While much of the discussion focused on breastfeeding, Laura wanted to emphasise in the notes that there's always more to say about bottle feeding too. Laura strongly affirms, celebrates and supports all paths to nourishing your baby, whatever that looks like for your family. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to seek the support you need—there's always more to explore and understand about feeding. If you'd like to learn more about my services, join our Live Webinars or get in touch, you can find me at www.milktomealtime.com, on Instagram at @milktomealtime or via email at info.milktomealtime@gmail.com. Many parents feel that they have to pick a side on the feeding debate - breast or bottle. But the reality is that often families find themselves a compromise, whether that is adding an occasional bottle to their routine, or switching to formula during the day, and breastfeeds when mum gets home from work. Despite this, information about how to go about mixed or combination feeding has been scarce, until now. My guest this week, Lucy Ruddle IBCLC, is author of a guide to mixed feeding, Mixed Up, which guides you through all you need to know.In our conversation, we touch on why you might want to mixed feed, we cut through the marketing to what you actually need to buy, and we talk about the emotional journey that many parents face when they can't meet their infant feeding goals.Find more from Lucy, including details of her four books at www.lucyruddle.co.ukPlease subscribe, rate and review, so we can get this vital info to as many parents-to-be as we can!______________________This episode is sponsored byiCandyVisit https://discover.icandyworld.com/birth-ed to shop my favourite pushchairs!Follow iCandy on IG and/or TikTok for helpful advice and ‘hints & tips' too!https://www.tiktok.com/@icandyworldhttps://www.instagram.com/icandyworlduk/The Bump Plan - visit thebumpplan.com/birthed-postnatal to access:Free Postnatal Pelvic Floor Recovery WorkshopFree Online Postnatal Returning to Exercise MasterclassAn exclusive 20% discount code to join The Bump Plan Postnatal POSTNATAL PLAN: A physio-approved program designed by Hollie Grant while she was postnatal, creating a unique and trustworthy experience for new mothers. Hello everyone and welcome back to Voices of Your Village. I get to hang out with Victoria Facelli. She's an IBCLC, is a graduate of the Global Breastfeeding Institute's Lactation Program, and not the kind of lactation consultant who hates formula, which I'm super jazzed about. Right in the intro she said, "this is a book about feeding babies, nothing more, nothing less. It's easy in the early days of parenthood to confuse feeding with parenting." And I love that because I think it's so true and there's so much tied to it. I think we see it with birth and we see it with feeding. Breast is best. We've all heard it, now let's talk about it. Today the Milk Minute is honored to have Victoria Facelli, author of "Feed the Baby: an inclusive guide to nursing, bottle feeding, and everything in between" on the show to discuss her incredible book. This is the kind of book that Heather and Maureen have dreamed of writing and is the perfect step-by-step guide to feeding your baby, complete with illustrations and videos. Victoria Facelli is an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant, but not the kind that hates formula. She wrote this book to cut through a lot of the misinformation that parents are faced with, as a resource to empower parents to feed their babies in whatever way works for them!Get the Book: Feed the Baby, by Victoria Facelli Website: Home | Victoria FacelliIG: @victoria.facelli.ibclc Work With Us!Book a Lactation Consult with Heather! Emily Silver, co-founder of Nurture by NAPS, offers resources, support, and education to parents throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and toddlerhood. Whether expecting your first, second, or third child, Emily provides evidence-based professional insights to help you navigate a journey filled with cherished memories, even during the often stressful and sleepless period of welcoming a newborn into your home. NAPS is committed to providing genuine support and evidence-based education. Emily addresses the challenges of dealing with social media critics who may guilt-trip you for not adhering to their perceived parenting norms. If you've recently given birth or know someone who could benefit from Emily's expertise, don't miss this episode of Stork'd. IN THIS EPISODE: [2:10] Emily shares her backstory of not having children, founding Nurture by NAPS, having three children and offering support and education to parents [6:11] Discussion regarding other countries offering institutionalized support services for new parents, which are not provided in the US and mental health needs for parents [10:25] Emily reveals her situation during pregnancy and how a program like NAPS would have made all the difference, and she discusses what NAPS offers [15:24] Emily believes parents should be able to get advice without judgment, using breastfeeding as an example [20:19] Discussion regarding sleep training, the need for support and education for new parents and what Emily would like to see in the future [30:10] Emily discusses what family means to her KEY TAKEAWAYS: Do not let anyone, including social media, guilt you into making decisions regarding your child that do not come from your heart and how you desire to nurture and parent your baby. Our nation is woefully behind in offering services to new moms because the services are privatized. Other countries do a much better job because it is a part of their healthcare system. Asking for support is critical when you have your new baby. So, don't be afraid to ask and narrow down the list of who you would trust to help or to give you advice. RESOURCE LINKS: Stork'd - Facebook Stork'd - Instagram Stork'd - YouTube Nurture by Naps - Instagram Nurture by Naps - Website BIOGRAPHY: Emily's passion for educating and supporting families stems from her personal experience dealing with loss. She lost a sister to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), has had multiple miscarriages, and has dealt with the anxiety and the stigma that comes with taking medication while pregnant and breastfeeding. You can be assured that taboo topics are just not taboo for Emily! Emily began her career in General Medicine before working as a Labor & Delivery nurse, where she met NAPS co-founder Jamie O'Day. While working in Labor & Delivery, Emily went back to school to get her master's degree in nursing and become a Family Nurse Practitioner. She practiced as a Nurse Practitioner in an OBGYN office for several years before running NAPS full time with Jamie. Emily best supports families through NAPS by pulling from her vast medical background, and her own experiences with pregnancy and parenting as a mother of three girls. After graduating from Boston College, Emily received her graduate degree from UMass Boston. Emily is a Family Nurse Practitioner and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She lives in Charlestown, MA with her husband, AJ, three daughters Grace (age 7), Madelyn (age 5), Eloise (age 1), and dog Maisey (age 9).

Feeding your new baby can come with its challenges. You may think that breastfeeding your newborn will come naturally, and for some, it does. However, for many others, it isn't so simple. Breastfeeding is a skill that both mother and baby must practice and learn together. Then, once they have figured out their feeding rhythm, it's time to introduce a bottle, and mothers are left unsure how to do it properly so as not to halt their breastfeeding journey. They wonder how they can successfully combine breastfeeding and bottle-feeding to experience both benefits because moms deserve to feed their babies the way that works best for them. Today's guest is sharing all the tips on how to introduce a bottle to baby, how to combine breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, and all the details parents need to know about Emulait and their baby bottle. Who is Madison Blampied? Today's guest is Madison Blampied. Madi is Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Relations at Emulait. With a keen eye for identifying growth opportunities and fostering strategic partnerships, Madi has learned to balance the demands of a high-powered career with the joys of motherhood. She found Emulait when her 2-year-old was only six weeks old and knew she needed to be a part of this revolutionary product. Now, as she eagerly anticipates the arrival of her second child, her outlook on bottles has shifted since her first pregnancy before Emulait existed. She is passionate about empowering women and giving them the tools to choose the outcome of their feeding journey! What Did We Discuss? In this episode, we chat with Madi about combining breastfeeding and bottle-feeding. We want to help parents feel confident in their feeding journey and support them by answering common questions while providing some helpful tips and tricks we have learned from our hands-on experiences as moms and professionals in the baby space. Here are several of the questions that we covered in our conversation: Can you talk about some of the different ways mothers feed their babies and how bottles play a role in these journeys? What should parents consider when looking for a bottle for a breastfed baby? What makes Emulait's bottle unique? Can you elaborate on the development and science behind this unique product? What tips do you have for introducing a bottle to a baby? What are the biggest challenges you see parents facing when transitioning from breastfeeding to bottle feeding? How can they be overcome? You said your outlook on bottles has shifted since your first pregnancy. Can you tell us more about your experience? What are your top bottle-feeding tips and tricks? Support is so important regardless of how you choose to feed your baby. Please tell our listeners more about how Emulait supports all parents on their feeding journeys. What is one piece of advice you would like to give parents about to embark on their feeding journey? Between the laughter and helpful tips, this was one of my favorite episodes! We covered a lot with Madi about the Emulait brand and how to help families with their baby-feeding journeys. We sincerely hope you enjoyed the episode as much as we did. Be sure to check out Emulait's bottles and products, and stay tuned for all of the amazing new things they are launching (as Madi mentioned) this year! Cheers to a stress-free baby-feeding journey! *Check out Emulait's products here!* Mentioned in the Episode Emulait's other accessories Emulait's app: Apple Store and Google Play They have a lactation consultant available for their customers (free of charge) to help them through their breastfeeding and bottle-feeding journeys. In today's episode, I interviewed one of my best friends and fellow mamas, Cora Poage. She and I have known each other since we worked together at a summer job in college, and we've been really fortunate that our growth trajectory has mirrored each other's in many ways. So much so that we both had our first babies in 2022, almost twenty years after we initially met. My daughter is seven months older than Cora's son, Nico.Today, Cora shares how she went from hoping to have an unmedicated homebirth in a tub with a midwife to a hospital birth with pitocin and an epidural thanks to high blood pressure and stalled labor. She was so grateful to her friends who told her to have a birth plan but to be prepared to throw it out. This allowed her to stay strong and advocate for herself and her baby.We Also Hear: How a Nurse Hand Expressed Cora's Breast To Get Her Colostrum to Flow The breastfeeding, pumping, and bottle feeding regimen was around the clock for the first few weeks. How Cora kept her sanity and fed her baby without having to get up every two hours in the middle of the night. How Cora released her pre-mama self and found surprising joys in motherhood. Gender role challenges What happened one night when her pump broke? Breastmilk supply food recommendations like oatmeal, quinoa, and post-natal vitamins How to be gentle with yourself when you lose your shit! And so much more! You can find Cora at: https://www.instagram.com/coachcoco/ or CoraPoage.com.Thank you so much for listening. On this week's episode of the pod, we are joined by Dr. Alison Ventura who has expertise in early childhood nutrition and development to talk about infant feeding. We kick things off with some statistics on the ways we feed infants in the US with regard to breastfeeding and formula feeding-- including variations by demographic. We discuss the reasons why an infant may receive breastmilk via bottle (versus from the breast) and debunk common myths and misconceptions about bottle feeding. We also dig into the stigma of bottle feeding and take a trip down memory lane to present the history and evolution of this feeding practice. Next, we discuss healthy bottle-feeding practices and the technique known as paced feeding. We wrap things up with a discussion of some of the latest studies on bottle feeding and some thoughts on future directions for research in this field. You don't want to miss this!
