What if we considered care to be a sacred practice? What if the everyday tasks of parenting were backtracked by the dramatic score of the British Baking Show? Elissa Strauss, author of When You Care: Unexpected Magic of Caring for Others joins Sarah and Miranda to mull over what it would mean to value care as a society and in our personal lives. We talk about trusting others with your children, why it's so fraught to admit you like being a parent, alloparents, the Hero's Journey, and kids singing Lean on Me. Normalizing Non-Monogamy - Interviews in Polyamory and Swinging

Jules has explored a variety of relationship styles in her life and her preference would be to be non-monogamous. Yet, she has very intentionally chosen a monogamous life and partnership with her husband. We have an incredibly powerful conversation about the unavoidable grief that comes with nearly every choice we make in life. Jules also weaves her story with so many amazing communication and relationship tools. Juliane Taylor Shore, LMFT, LPC, SEP, is a therapist, author, and teacher who is creating spaces where people can move into more self-compassion, self-trust, empowerment, and integrity. She regularly teaches and speaks to people from all around the world and translates new understandings in neurobiology into practices that can support brain change. She came into the therapy world as a client who argued that feelings didn't matter only to find herself all these years later having followed neuroscience to the obvious conclusion: we are really feeling and meaning making beings driven by our interdependence. She believes that embracing that reality is key to finding purpose and deep joy. She is the author of Setting Boundaries that Stick: How Neurobiology Can Help You Rewire Your Brain to Feel Safe, Connected and Empowered. She is an associate Instructor with the Coherence Institute and a core faculty member with Therapy Wisdom. She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Adam, their daughter, Stella, and their rescue pointer mix, Layla. When she isn't thinking about therapy or reading the latest neurobiology research, she can be found watching the British Baking Show while creating art shoes for her dear friends. This is the final episode of 2020. Most of us are looking forward to a new year and finally saying goodbye to 2020.  I am really excited about this episode.  Since it is the final episode of the year, we are going to be looking back a little bit.   I am going to share 3 lessons from this year: a lesson that I learned, a lesson that I re-learned, and a lesson that I unlearned this year.  The best part is that I will be sharing these lessons using the British Baking Show.  In This Episode: [02:05] Linsi is going to share three lessons and use the British Baking Show as her example.  There are all sorts of parallels with the bakers and entrepreneurs.  [03:17] Space, downtown, cultivation, and purposeful action are really important elements to having fun.  [04:58] Lesson One: playing big vs. playing small.  Playing big isn’t about doing big things.  It is the level at which you are following your heart. It is willing to go all-in for what you want.   [06:03] There are several things that stop us from playing big. The risk that we are afraid of is not the situation, it is a feeling.  We are afraid of the feeling of being humiliated, disappointed, or overwhelmed.    [06:57] Playing big isn’t about taking this huge risk.  It is about being willing to follow something that you are passionate about knowing that there is a possibility that you are going to experience risky emotions.   [09:01] Playing big is showing up in your business time and time again and knowing that it is worth it because we are following something that we are passionate about.   [10:31] Showing up every day is no small feat.  It is a challenge for us to continually overcome the small challenges in our lives. Celebrate in your life where you are playing big! [12:19] Linsi shares about the British Baking Show and how it compares to entrepreneurship. [14:14] On the show once the bakers receive their challenge they take action so they don’t become overwhelmed which is the same with entrepreneurs. As soon as they are taking action, their confidence starts to rise.  [15:48] As time goes on the bakers start to make reactive decisions at the moment because doubt creeps in.  As entrepreneurs, we also make reactionary decisions when driven by doubt.  [17:46] Playing big is about choosing your desires over your fears. [18:08] You can play a bigger game by practicing the thought, “I am willing to feel disappointed because it means I am trying something new.” The fear is only present because you are doing something that matters. [18:40] Lesson 2: Every level feels like starting over.  [20:24] There is no such thing as backward.  We only go forward.  [21:44] Starting and running your own business is like adopting a puppy.  It requires continuing care, affection, and attention for as long as it is alive.    [24:06] Any time you feel yourself back at what feels like a starting point, it’s because you’ve entered a new level and it’s time to redefine the future of your business again.  [25:47] When you have the feeling that you are starting over, just recognize that you are at a new level and it’s time to make forward decisions and keep moving forward.  [26:01] Lesson 3: Stop overthinking! Overthinking gets in the way of our dreams time and time again.   [27:12] As entrepreneurs we have to self impose our deadlines and we have to learn how to honor our own deadlines so that we can overcome our tendency to overthink.  [27:43] The antidote to overthinking is action. The simplest thing that you can do if you catch yourself is to take one small but immediate action to disrupt the pattern.  [29:56] The British Baking show is a good example of community over competition. This is such a great part about small businesses too.  [31:18] Take a holiday break.  Plan for it, give yourself the time and space you need to rejuvenate and restore your energy and get excited about all the great things you are going to do next week.   As entrepreneurs, we are never really done. We are always moving to another level. Stop overthinking and keep moving forward.   Connect with Linsi: Linsi’s Website Be Brilliant in Your Business Podcast Website Linsi on Instagram Schedule a Free Consultation Ask Me Anything

In today's interview I get a chance to chat with a great Speech Therapist.  We met about 7 or so years ago at a clinic we both worked at.  I have always enjoyed talking with Jennifer and we have now found ourselves on similar journeys of starting our own businesses.  Jennifer is a speech-language pathologist (aka speech therapist) and owner of Agave Speech and Language Teletherapy Services. Her passion is to help busy parents eliminate their children's speech difficulties through online resources so that their children can grow in confidence to be their best self. When she is not providing therapy through her private practice, she contracts with local school districts to provide speech-language services. These experiences have given her extensive knowledge of BOTH private practice and school-based services…which are very different environments. Through the years as a speech pathologist, she has also worked in early intervention (birth to three years), adult rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities, and other private practices in both California and Idaho. This summer, she began a Facebook Group called "Speech Development Q&A for Parents" so that she could begin reaching parents all over the globe and helping them with their speech and language development questions. When she is not “working”, Jennifer loves trail running, playing and teaching classical violin, adventuring, gardening, and baking (hopeless addict of the British Baking Show

Just in time for summer, this episode we taste-test two very different versions of the Mai Tai, taking a trip back in time when a very problematic Tiki culture reigned supreme. We sample the original 1944 version and the 1953 reboot. The OG rum cocktail was once so popular it depleted world rum supplies for a bit. Cheers y’all! ALSO DISCUSSED: Tux swearin’ like he grown, British Baking Show escapism, Rent the Runway for pineapples, Christoper Columbus’s thieving ass, Karens, “President” Benjamin Harrison, Turd Cruz, tiddies, the loosening of jaw gums, the Princess Kaiulani Movie, watercolors, Rupaul-isms, shrugs, Tux dropping science and Stephanie’s new BFF Rum. Princess Kaiulani movie: https://youtu.be/YyIUR7TXldg TUX talks about the very scandalous way the Hawaian monarchy was overthrown. Not many people know that long before Hawaii was a state it was a sovereign nation with a queen, a democratically elected legislature and ambassadors all over the world. This was true until a powerful group of white Hawaiian businessmen set their sights on the island nation. STEPHANIE tells the story of Warren Delano’s “fair, honorable, and legitimate trade” in illegal drugs. This scandal is about how the Delano empire secured its wealth but it’s really a scandal about freedom— the freedom to secretly roll around in drug monies. Ok so. Like. Give us a break on this one ok? We're really sorry, and promise that there's a possibility that it won't happen again. We spent most (not being hyperbolic there) of this episode talking about a certain British Baking Show. Is it related to the book Pole Star? Tangentially, if at all. But oh well. Welcome to Punch Drunk TV. We're a podcast that drinks and yells about television. Do you remember us? It's been a while ... three weeks to be exact. And holy crap so much has happened in the 21 days we've been on hiatus! There was Comic-Con and the TCA Summer Tour but now Jack and Aaron are back, so let's just get into it, shall we? NEWS: Disney will pull all their movies from Netflix at the end of 2018. But hey, they’ll be creating their own stand-alone streaming service that will launch in 2019. After 21 years, Jon Stewart will be starring in his first stand-up special on HBO. YouTube has announced a Karate Kid sequel series, titled "Cobra Kai," starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles in a new half hour comedy. It’ll follow Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence as they manage battling dojos. Former "Walking Dead" showrunner Glen Mazzara will be bringing "The Dark Tower" TV series to the small-screen. It’ll apparently follow the story of the books, which the movie did not do. Netflix has just acquired the rights to Mark Millar’s Millarworld, aka his entire line of comics which includes the likes of "Kick-Ass," "Wanted" and "Kingsman." And others Jack should talk about. Netflix is partnering with Joel and Ethan Coen for an original Western anthology series called "The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs." Told in the Coens’ signature sardonic style, each episode of the series will focus on a different tale of the American West. The Coens will write and direct all six episodes, which will star "O Brother, Where Art Thou’s" Tim Blake Nelson as the eponymous Buster Scruggs, along with “many others.” David Letterman is teaming up with Netflix for a six-episode series of “in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor.” About the show, Letterman says, “I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned: if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.” Lifetime has renewed "UnREAL" for a fourth season, keeping the show on the network through to 2019 Fox has a live musical version of "A Christmas Story" coming in December. It’ll star Maya Rudolph as Mrs. Parker, Ralphie and Randy’s mother. ABC asked Sean Spicer to join the cast of "Dancing with the Stars." Sean Spicer said no. Vin Diesel is out to reboot "Miami Vice" for NBC. According to AV Club, the reboot “will reflect today’s sexy police officers, as well as the many changes the past 27 years have seen in cocaine” MTV is rebooting TRL, aka "Total Request Live," and will premiere on October 2. It’ll be shot at the network’s iconic Times Square studio, which has been expanded to 8,700 square feet to allow for bigger audiences and simultaneous productions that will cater to its new accompanying digital segments. Jack’s favorite show, "The Middle," will end after its upcoming ninth season Hulu is adding the classic TGIF lineup to its service. That’s every single episode of "Full House," "Family Matters," "Step By Step," "Perfect Strangers" and "Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper." Amazon has announced that Prime subscribers can now enjoy their own batch of old ‘80s and ‘90s sitcoms. "Roseanne," "3rd Rock From The Sun," "A Different World," "Grace Under Fire," "Cybill" and "Grounded For Life" will hit the service in August. BBC is working with former "British Baking Show" host, Mary Berry, on a new food competition series. It’ll tentatively be titled "Britain’s Best Cook" and have Berry branching out from the baking realm into the “wider world of food.” AARON’S LOSERS "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later," "The Lowe Files" and "Friends from College"JACK’S LOSERS: "The Lowe Files" and "Hooten and the Lady" AARON’S FENCERS: "The Strain" and "Mr. Mercedes"JACK’S FENCERS: "Comrade Detective," "The Last Shot" and "Game of Thrones" AARON’S WINNERS: "World of Dance," "Icarus," "What Would Diplo Do," "Room 104," "Get Shorty," "Rick and Morty," "Insecure," "Twin Peaks" and "Ozark"JACK’S WINNERS "Funny How?," "Ozark," "Room 104," "Voltron" and "Get Shorty" Be sure to subscribe on iTunes and comment! I watched 13 Reasons Why and loved it almost as much as my beloved BH90210.  High school sucks donkey dicks and in this episode I uncover why. The compelling reasons to attend college (to become interesting and drink Zima). My favorite new British Baking Show contestant and the deepness of her victory. It's not just about avoiding a soggy bottom! Why you can't necessarily DO everything. I mean you can, just not perfectly. How do we make peace with doing things imperfectly. Also, what are our limits and who defines them? A 34 year-old single woman writes in feeling the panic of her biological clock ticking away. She's newly single and wants to find her forever jeans! The horrors of modern-day dating. A Mormon girl writes in and asks how she can get over her competitiveness. She hates games! It may have something to do with approval seeking...and the good opinion of others...The book I recommend is by Wayne Dyer, Your Erroneous Zones.
