TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ DJ SNEAK SPECIAL SHOW 2021 #001 - PART 2 DJ Sneak (born Carlos Sosa; November 5, 1969) is a Puerto Rican born American DJ and record producer raised in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is noted as being one of the second wave of Chicago house producers, (alongside Derrick Carter, Cajmere/Green Velvet, Gemini, James Curd and Paul Johnson) as well as a member of the vanguard of late-1990s United States house producers. In 1983, Sneak moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico, where his early musical experiences and influences were rooted in salsa, merengue and Latin orchestras. In Chicago, Sneak found inspiration in underground house music, warehouse parties and "old school" mix tapes from the early pioneers, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Ralphi Rosario, Steve Hurley and local radio station shows played on WBMX. Sneak earned his nickname rocking graffiti-tags and began working at retail stores as an airbrush artist. His development as a DJ came while working regular mobile DJ jobs and local nightclubs. Sneak focused on his music production and started his independent label - Defiant Records. In 1994, while still working at local store Gramophone Records, Sneak met Cajmere (Green Velvet) owner of Cajual and Relief Records. Cajmere released three of Sneak's catalyst tracks, which helped bring him international recognition. In Ibiza, Sneak has participated in several events with Ministry of Sound, Cream, Manumission, and Miss Moneypenny's. Sneak currently resides in Los Angeles, California, US. Lyrics by DJ Sneak are featured in the Daft Punk song, "Digital Love", from their 2001 album, Discovery. In 2001, Sneak launched a new record label Magnetic Recordings, where he has been releasing new music, with compilations to come, along with the introduction of new musical talent. Source: Wikipedia

The task of discovering music became an infinite loop of collecting records. After 11 years of touring dance floors as a spectator and amateur DJ, in 2005 he acquired his first turntables, technics 1200s. When he finally felt he had an extensive vinyl collection, he decided to venture into the world of DJing professionally. Now, with some years of experience, Big Pack has played in key clubs all over Mexico, opening for artists such as Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin, Derrick Carter, Phil Weeks, Wally Callerio, Andrew Emil, JT Donaldson , Oliver Dollar, 1200 Warriors, to name a few. Follow us on SoundCloud to hear our label releases and grab some free downloads: http://soundcloud.com/monologues Girls of The Internet is the sound of a music-industry long-timer reinventing themselves, indulging their love of classic disco house while also producing soulful live organic cuts. Their mix for us is a riotous journey through house music past, present and future. *How would you describe your sound?* Patrick Adams making records for Dance Mania. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* The biggest influence for me right now is seeing people enjoy our music, it completely blows me away when people message to say they like our stuff, especially when women or members of the LGBTQ+ community. Electronic music is such a horrible schlong fest, and so many of the male DJs act so horrendously in the way they treat women at shows. It’s great to know we’re appealing to more than just banty lads. Another big influence is our collaborators; the vocalists and illustrators/painters we get to work with through the band are all amazing, and hugely inspirational to work with. Anybody who has ever met me will know how important Stereolab are to me, as I’ve probably tried to shame you into listening to them at some point. I love Chaka Khan, Patrick Adams. I could list musical influences for ages, but it would be pretty boring. I don’t have any big secrets nobody else has, and I’ve always tried to share music I love to whoever is listening to me. Some of my early influences in house were Pepe Bradock, Cajual, Basic Channel, Armand Van Helden, Henry Street, Masters At Work... I don’t listen to too much modern house — it has to be pretty incredible for me to need to add it to my collection. What I take away from other people’s music is how certain sounds work together; how a drum hit and a weird noise work together in a Prince record, or how a saturated kick in a Green Velvet record affects the mood of the track is where my brain goes. *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* It’s mainly sample based stuff we’re releasing on the run up to our debut album. Normally we work with musicians and vocalists, but I’m completely obsessed with ‘90s disco house, so I made a load of tracks while the album comes together. Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy looping disco records was what started everything — disco loops and drum machines are the purest form of house music as far as I’m concerned. House should be fun, and I wanted to try and convey the fun side of Girls’ with these EPs. I feel like I’m cheating when I sample other people’s music, which is why I try and call it an ‘edit’ or ‘mixtape’ when I’m looping other people’s work. The non-sample, full band, full production stuff is; our debut single ‘When U Go' which got picked up by Classic, which is the first full piece of music I made myself. 'Fondness Makes The Heart Grow Absent', which we self released last year, and it’s already been licensed for a few big compilations this year. It started life as a remix I did for somebody that got rejected, so I took all the original parts I recorded for the remix — guitar, bass, cut them up, added some synths and turned it into a loose cover of ‘It’ll All Be Over’ by The Supreme Jubilees, with Gershom Brown on vocals. The last track on the mix is called ‘Humble’ and features ex-Brand New Heavies vocalist and one of my good buddies Linda Muriel. It’s the lead single from our upcoming album. It’s a 2-steppy garage-ish thing. I made a version with live instruments, but I've ended up using the demo version with me playing everything on keyboard for the album, as it was impactful than the live version. I wanted to use a bit more music from the album on this mix, but it’s a bit too early to play too much of it publicly. Oh also, there is a remix of a track I made with the Ballroom MC Princess Precious Ebony, who features heavily on the Viceland documentary series ’My House’, and is an incredible person and a pleasure to work with. It’ll probably be a B-side to one of the singles from the album. I’ve been involved in music for a long time behind the scenes, and I’m just amazed at the incredible reaction we get for Girls’ stuff so far. We have a small group of fans who are so supportive and send us such amazing messages all the time. It’s really humbling. The music industry can be a horrible place — often unpleasant people behaving awfully with shady agendas and negative energy. It’s amazing to be involved in something that’s just about positivity and making great music. Booking: http://www.timesartists.com/oliverdollar The past few years have seen Oliver Dollar’s star rise to be a recognisable staple within house music. But it was 2011 when this Berlin-based producer gained the attention he deserved in the form of his first Beatport #1 “Doin’ Ya Thang” – released on Play It Down; Made To Play’s sister label. “Doin’ Ya Thang” remained at the #1 spot for an astounding 5 weeks and continued to sit in the top ten selling over 40k downloads to date, also topping the Resident Advisor chart. This success was quickly followed up with monster-cuts ‘Granulated Soul’ and ‘Hoes’, both again on Play It Down. 2014 was another huge year for Oliver, dropping the ‘$’ sign to become simply Oliver Dollar. He released his biggest smash yet as he reunited with Swiss Jazz House aficionado Jimi Jules for their much- hyped ‘Pushin’ on’ released on the mighty Defected. Not only did it give Dollar #1 status on Beatport again, it was also a huge cross-over hit featuring in the UK charts (peaking at #15). After the tracks’ on-going success Oliver Dollar and Jimi Jules continue to work together on various projects including a remix of Freaks’ Wake Up on Rebirth Records. Other notable Collaborations in 2014 included releasing with Cajmere on his label Cajual and also being part of his Green Velvet album on Relief Records ‘Dance To My Beat’ which was a huge success. He also remixed Romathony’s ‘Let Me Show You Love’ for Glasgow Underground which turned heads, and the ‘Made For The Night Compilation’ with Jesse Rose soon followed, which was accompanied by a world tour and global shows with Defected. 2015 saw Oliver continue to fly as he launched his own label ‘Industry Standard’. The first release ‘Shout Away’ was a collaboration with Chuck Daniels, a dark-disco club-ready track that was made in Detroit. Of the label Oliver comments ‘I always wanted to do a label…The vision is to have crazy quality control, I don’t want to put out a release every month.” Other highlights in 2015 included his debut at the much-respected Movement festival in Detroit, a remix for the mighty Matthias Tanzmann on Moon Harbour records and a fresh collaboration with legendary Robert Owens and fellow German Tensnake. The Dollar wasn’t any slouch in 2016, with a heavy international touring schedule he has still put releases in the right places remixing Green Velvet’s legendary cut ‘Flash’ for Relief Records, an original releases titled ‘Go Down’ on his home label base Play It Down, and a collaboration with Kenny Dope titled ‘Muggin’ on Kenny’s legendary Dopewax imprint. Then 2017 saw a selection of releases & remixes on Play It Down, Yoruba, Arms & Legs, Kling Klong. Finally, his much-anticipated debut album is due to drop in 2018 which will deliver a selection of killer cuts that he’s been crafting for well over a year, featuring some formidable collaborating artists. With an album world tour being scheduled from the release you know Oliver will continue to keep pushin’ on another day for another dollar!

You can also download our show on ITUNES by searching Spacewalk under podcast! Please visit your local on line retail stores and download the "Fort Nightly" album by Iz & Diz, that shit is HEAT!!!! Hope you enjoy the show and here's some more infomation on the man himself: If life is about "being in the right place at the right time," then Diz's timing could not have been better. Born and raised in Chicago, the original epicenter of the House Music uni-verse, his adolescence coincided with the beginnings of that city's legendary scene. Nowadays, if you mention Diz's name amongst House aficionados, you are almost cer-tain to hear adoration and respect for his insane DJ skills, stage presence, and warm-hearted personality. Diz's musical influences started at home, where his mother's love for Jazz led him to pursue the saxophone for many years. His DJ beginnings were about whatever he could get his hands on, like Disco and old Breaks records inherited from family members. When he was 14, his older brother took him to The Music Box, where Diz witnessed the true potential of House Music: to affect people's emotions and bring them together on a collective journey. He's been striving to do just that ever since, and in the process, has become a faithful participant in the music, the culture, and the times.  Throughout high school, he frequented parties featuring DJs such as Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Farley and many other masters, and finally had a chance to break into the scene at age 19 after meeting contemporaries Mark Farina, Derrick Carter and Spencer Kincey (Gemini). His early gigs were at Alcazar with Gemini, and at one-off parties. At his Wicker Park loft, what started as a means of paying the rent developed into a two-year run as a nightclub, featuring Diz, Farina and Mark Grant on the decks. Soon after-wards, he and his friends took over Shelter, one of the city's "most severe night spots." >From roughly 1993-98, Diz was the Friday resident at Shelter, and the Saturday resi-dent at Red Dog alongside Johnny Fiasco, and since then has held many residencies at other legendary Chicago spots.  In 1995, Diz accepted a job working for his brother's friend, Anthony Pearson (Chez Damier), at PRESCRIPTION (the label founded by Chez and Ron Trent). PRESCRIP-TION conducted distribution business with CAJUAL, and that is how Diz met his future producing partner and close friend, Joshua (whose nickname as fate would have it, was "Iz").  In 1995, Iz n Diz produced their first record together, "Ghosts in Detroit," released on PRESCRIPTION's sub-label, BALANCE. A year later, Joshua/Iz moved back to San Francisco, but he and Diz maintained a close friendship over the years and continue to produce together for labels like CLASSIC, AESOTERIC, GUIDANCE, TWEEKIN', SIL-VER NETWORK, and PANHANDLE. They have released on Point Blank Records as well as Ministry of Sound Recordings and bring forth their unique house music to Union Jack Records along with Miguel Puente. Miguel Puente is born and bred in Mexico and currently resides in Barcelona. He has played in some of the most world renknown clubs in Mexico, South America, and Europe and has released on labels such as No. 19 Music, Hot Waves, Dynamic, Cajual, OFF Recordings, and many more. He consistently charts on Top 100 in Beatport and he is still under 30 years old. Miguel Puente's remix starts off this 2 track EP with a thumping bassline that will get you moving off the bat. The groovy chords and tribal outlay will surely make you feel as if you are slicing through the jungles of Mexico. Miguel's remix of Black Bloom's 'Downtown' is set for the dance floor during peak time while the original mix slows things down a bit. Black Bloom's rendition of 'Downtown' puts forth a bit more of a darker take on things allowing the listener to journey into oblivion and get lost in the music.

We are very excited to announce, episode 92 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by none other than Chicago house music legend Paul Johnson. Paul has long been a staple of the house scene, and as well as his chart-busting 'Get Get Down', also released many underground tracks for seminal labels like Peacefrog, Relief, Cajual, Moody Recordings, Crydamoure, Yellow Productions and Peppermint Jam. Paul is a real hero of ours and we are so proud to have him a part of our podcast series.   Subscribe with iTunes - https://apple.co/1MQQ5me Subscribe with RSS -  https://imahousegangster.libsyn.com/   Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, the birthplace of house music, Johnson started making waves in the music community at the early age of thirteen. In the summer of 1984, Paul Johnson taught himself how to spin after watching his cousin Marc spin and scratch in his bedroom. As a self taught artist, Paul's pulsating energy and passion are apparent in all his work. In high school while his peers were holding down after school jobs, Paul was a popular radio DJ. Raw talent, dedication and a deep love for house music have made Paul Johnson one of the most sought after DJ's in the world.   https://www.imahousegangster.com https://www.facebook.com/imahousegangster https://www.instagram.com/imahousegangster https://www.twitter.com/imhousegangster

Gangstercast 49 comes from Toronto-based Nathan Barato. Nathan Barato is a Toronto favourite and has been a staple in the city’s underground scene for more than 15 years. Early into his career, his ability behind the decks was quickly recognized by industry peers and fans alike, landing him residencies at some of Toronto’s most established nightclubs, including the iconic Guvernment nightclub, Footwork and Mad Bar. Musically, Nathan’s range dabbles in many genres, going back to his early influences of 90’s garage, and ranging to many spans of house and techno. His music has been released on some of the most prestigious labels in the industry, including Hot Creations, Rekids, Cajual, Saved Records, MOOD, Defected, Suara, Inmotion, Snatch, and of course, his very own Roots And Wings Music. As Nathan Barato continues to turn industry eyes and ears in his direction, he remains a well-respected and sought after name. He’s been booked to play some of the largest events and clubs around the world, including Womb Tokyo, Stereo Montreal, DC-10 Ibiza, Amnesia Ibiza, Fabric London, Coda Toronto, Output New York, and Magazzini Generali in Milan to name a few. Nathan recently enjoyed a summer spent in Ibiza where he held residency at arguably the largest party of the summer, Marco Carola’s legendary Music On. Nathan was also invited to play Music On in Mexico, Milan and Miami, as well as Jamie Jones’ Paradise in Ibiza. While Nathan’s career has him busy playing in cities around the globe, he remains proud to call Toronto home. He explains that this mix represents him well as him as an artist, because it was taken live from Coda for his recent open to close set. “I think it shows my versatility, timing and flow” says Nathan. CODA nightclub is in Toronto, Canada where Nathan lives. It is one of the only underground clubs in the city. It used to be called Footwork which is where Nathan use to play a lot, also with Carlo Lio, another Toronto house music hero.   He describes the House Gangster sound as “raw, fast and fun”. When asked what the House gangster movement meant to him, he replies; “To me, it means be yourself, believe in yourself and fuck everyone else.”   Nathan would like to give a special mention about this mix, in saying “Thankyou to the people that were at Coda and giving me good vibes to influence me in the way they did.”

Biography:"The first time I ever put two records together I was 11. The first time I ever played at a club -- 18. And the first place I had a full-blown residency was at the Powerhouse with Ron Carroll, DJ Rush and myself, in… well, the poster on the wall over there says "1990". - Gene Farris | 5 Magazine Since then, Gene, at 6' 7", has become one of the most accomplished, if not one of the "biggest", DJ/Producers in House Music, releasing some of dance music's hottest anthems on his label, Farris Wheel Recordings with The Copa Cabana (sold 25,000 units), The Spirit (with DJ Sneak remixes) as well as Defected's 2001 classic, Sanctified Love, CR2's, The Big Doopie Rmx's and Cajual with Summer Affair. Depending on the continent, talent or party you find Gene performing, you can count on him setting the tone with his distinctive "funky summer Chicago hot kinda vibe"; simply put, "funky, dirty, sexy, grooving beats". Chicago born and raised, Gene was inspired by the likes of Larry Heard, Ron Hardy, Lil Louis, Derrick May, Mark Farina, Prince and Roy Ayers. Combined with his love for disco, Gene developed his style of seamless mixes blending funk, disco and soul with 80s pop. Gene joined forces with Cajmere (aka Green Velvet | Relief Records); the partnership proved to be the perfect fit. The duo produced smash club killers like The Music Box, Edge Of The Looking Glass, Red Line, The Inside and Le Mirage. Currently, the duo is in the studio working on several productions to be released later this year. Farris started his own label - Farris Wheel Recordings, which has continued to be one of the leaders in underground house music. The Farris Wheel Family releases remixes and full productions from some of the worlds most prolific and respected dance music producers for over a decade, such as J.T. Donaldson, Chuck Love, 1200 Warriors, Stacey Pullen, Glenn Underground, Greenskeepers, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Boo Williams, DJ Sneak, Brett Johnson, Miguel Migs and Jay-J. With over 100 productions, 6 albums and performances in over 30 countries, Gene still finds time to share his passion for music with kids in China. Suggested by a friend, Gene's produced a series of videos about how to get youth inspired, and in to, electronic music and Dj-ing. 01. How did you approached to the dj profession? I started djing very young and was introduced to me by some local friends.. 02. Tell us of your first time playing in a in club. The first time I played a club I was extremly nervous, I still remember my sweaty hands it was at the PowerHouse in Chicago a very popular club back in the day.. I pulled it out was a great night a lot of oldschool djs began to give me props after that party.. 03. What device do you prefer to use in your live and studio set up? I use logic and Reasons in the studio with a few other key toys;) 04. What you think about digital music? I think it fine, music has to move forward, I mean were would we be if we never moved from 8 track or reel to reel? Everything must progress or it stops moving.. 05. What are your favorite records label? I have a few Cajual, Farris Wheel, Defected, Soma, Sampled, Guesthouse & Large.. 06. What lead you to found Farris Wheel Recordings? I started Farris Wheel In 1998 originally just for another outlet to put out my music and it just grew into a life of it's own, it's kinda it's own living thing now when I make music for my label I have to make sure it fits the "Farris Wheel" sound.. 07. In your opinion how would electronic music change in the next 10 years? Everything goes full circle I think in ten yrs it will be simular to what u hear now but it will be much much cleaner.. 08. What you love and what you hate in dj's life? I love the Music, the Parties, the attention, the planes, the hotels, the food, the cheddar, I Hate the Haters lol.. 09. What would you suggest to a beginner dj? Stay consistent and practice your favorite sets daily until u know your strengths and weakness then u can work on making yourself better all the way around and stay current! And constantly make new ideas push the boundary! 10. Can you tell us something about your future works? Currently working on the Cajual 20 yr Anniversary Mix CD just dropped "The White Label Ep" with Cajmere it's #1 on traxsource he and I have a lot of stuff out together at the moment and i will be touring for the mix cd in 2012..:)
