This is Part 2 of the Episode "Your Music Saved My Life Part", in this episode we continue to talk about nostalgia, and we go even deeper down the rabbit hole by listening to music thoroughly, listening to others intentively, and being present. Our relationships with our fathers. Disconnecting from social media, and being engaged. A lot of differences in opinions in this one, but also an understanding of those differences. We talk about: Cat Stevens / Mike and the Mechanics / Billy Joel / Taylor Swift / Post Malone / Barbie Movie / Harry Chapin / NIN / and many others. This was also recorded before the Barbie movie came out last year, and just now coming out, but still a very important and interesting episode.  I hope you enjoy it! Let us know what you think. If you would like to have a conversation about Music and promote whatever Music styling you have. You can get a hold of us through:Email at:ozomatfan87@gmail.comSocial Media:Facebook@MusicMadeSeedsTikTok@johnnycomelately520johnny0520@snapchatInstagram is johnevans6208Support is on Patreon= https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=48542707Please check out our other Podcast: " Narrative Perspective" - wherever you get podcasts. Please Subscribe. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

In this episode, Cody talks with rapper Julian Lillie, better known as Bishop Slice. Bishop says that music has been part of his life since before he was even born. When his mom was pregnant, she would always have headphones on her stomach. After he was born, he'd watch MTV, back when they played music videos. But Bishop's childhood was often tumultuous. His mom struggled with addiction and his dad was in prison. So, he found sanctuary in music — at first listening to it, and then when he was about 12, creating it. Those first raps were full of angst, but they allowed him to express his frustrations and ultimately became therapeutic.   Bishop believes that there's a responsibility in being an Athabaskan rapper. It means being a cultural ambassador and a role model — instilling hope in his people and letting them know that they can rise above negative stereotypes and past traumas. He knows this is true because he went through it himself. He spent time in prison and he struggled with addiction, but he eventually overcame both. Now, his family is the most important thing to him. Music will always be important, but being the father that he never had is imperative.   PHOTO / Rick Beal

"I'm not saying I'm the best. I'm saying I'm doing my best." - Federica Bressan We love getting the perspective from different people and their relationship with the arts and how it has impacted their health. Federica Bressan joins us from Italy, who says music saved her life. She has a fascinating story about how music was her saving grace through a difficult childhood. She rediscovered her artist self when she stepped away from performing professionally and started creating for herself. She also shares her views on music education and it was interesting hearing the similarities between academic music education in Italy and what happens in the United States. Federica is an Italian and Slovenian digital nomad who's just turned 40 this year, and she is starting her third career - in communication. She is a podcaster and conducts video interviews on science and technology on YouTube. Previously, she worked as a musician and an academic researcher - her research revolved around audio, music, and sound recordings. Riopy has established a worldwide reputation with his emotionally honest and vivid instrumental music, which has generated over 200 million streams globally. He credits music for helping him overcome the horror of his childhood, anxiety, stress, depression, and drug/alcohol addiction. Riopy released his new album, ‘Bliss' earlier this year through Warner Classics. He's done extensive research on the positive effects music has on mental health, even taking EKGs of his own brain waves to test the various effects of music. Riopy has devoted his life to achieving complete “lucidity” in composing and performing, using such techniques as transcendental meditation, yoga, maintaining a sober lifestyle, and even fasting for up to 48 hours, all of which provide a clean slate which has enabled his creativity. Natascha Bessez is an international recording artist, model, spokesperson, and former beauty queen. While her career has taken her to L.A., Natascha was born and raised in New York, where she was crowned Miss New York Teen USA at 18. She has since performed around the world with some of the biggest names in the music industry, bringing her two Billboard Top 30 dance hits along the way. Her global ambitions paved the way for the opportunity to headline Madrid’s World Pride, place runner-up for Denmark’s Eurovision Song Festival, compete in The Voice in Holland, and, most recently, star in The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart. Asked how she knew the career she wanted to build for herself, Natascha replies, “I think it’s not something that you know. It’s something that you do.” With music as just one of her many passions, the last thing she wants is to be boxed in and labeled, identified only by what she happens to be most known for. “Performance is what I love the most,” says Natscha. Growing up with a Chilean mother and a father of French descent exposed her to different types of music from the day she was born. That developed her love of opera as a kid. She recalls dressing up, belting out, and dancing her heart out on most of those early days. “I enjoyed being watched. I enjoyed expressing.” This love for performance and expression, along with her natural sanguine personality, led Natascha to all the different creative opportunities that have come her way so far. Through it all, she strives to keep her feet planted firmly on the ground, stay true to herself, and leave a legacy to young girls looking to chart a path on their own terms. "Why would I want to do something that’s not authentic to who I am? In time, you realize what you’re not in order to find out what you are."   Follow Natascha @nataschabessez Follow Chase @chase_chewning   Key Highlights One of the most obvious threads that runs through Natascha’s career is her desire to serve as a role model to girls. She shares the legacy she wants to leave and how she was inspired to do what she does. Natascha explains how she taps into her creative flow. Has Natascha been able to carve her own path in an industry dictated by trends?   Episode resources: Save 60% with code EVERFORWARD60 on the Level 201 podcasting course from Operation Podcast at https://operationpodcast.co/201   Watch Natascha's music videos on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/NataschaBessez  Listen to Natascha's music on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/artist/62Mo1gZxE3ZZ3gZ85Uyd1m?si=7H_sKglIS3eaJV2cYo0QYw

Sara Hartman – Music Saved My LifeAired Monday, April 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM PST / 2:00 PM EST / 7:00 PM GMT / 8:00 PM CETNietzsche said, “that which does not kill us makes us stronger.” Singer-songwriter, Sara Hartman knows all too well that truth-telling nakedness can take its toll. Yet isn’t it the darkness that gives birth to new stars? Join Voice Visionary Kara Johnstad and Sara Hartman in a heartfelt conversation on how our voice begs us to be honest with ourselves. Lean in as Sara shares her struggles and triumphs. Discover how she learned to weave them into song and use songwriting as a path to healing. Sara’s new single, Girl, was released in the midst of the Berlin shut down on March 20, 2020, and is the perfect antidote to these tender harsh times.About Sara HartmanSara Hartman is a singer and songwriter raised in Sag Harbor, NY. In 2015 she relocated to Berlin Germany at the age of 19 to pursue a career in Pop. Sara worked with producer Tobias Kuhn on the songs she released. It is quite apparent moving to the flourishing city had a lasting effect on her. There is a theme of melancholy yet wide-eyed exploration and hope in the music she released while working with Universal Germany. She worked with and toured with many artists including Clueso, Ellie Goulding, X Ambassadors, MS MR, Kelvin Jones, Family of the year and many more. Hartman played shows on stages big and small all around Europe and North America and appeared on TV shows in Germany such as Zdf Bauhaus, Kikas Dein Song, and ARD Morgen Magazin. After 3 years of writing, recording and touring she disappeared…Now in 2020 Hartman is making her return. She has taken all she has experienced and crafted it into a new batch of songs that have reached a new emotional depth and are as raw as they come. Her mission statement of making songs you can dance or cry to (depending on your mood) doesn’t seem to have changed, yet the story seems to have gotten quite a bit darker. On Episode #16 of “CAN YOU HEAR ME, LONG BEACH? No artform hits us deeper, sparks more memories, inflames more passion, or arguments, than music. We talked to two men—Eckart Preu of the Long Beach Symphony and James Bass of the Camerata Singers—who say music saved their lives, in a very real, "If not for it, I may not be here today," kinda way. Of course, music has also become their livelihoods, and we spoke of how they go about doing that every day. Both men took over their present positions in 2017 and each is about to launch a new season; Long Beach Symphony opens Sept. 28, the Camerata Singers first performance is Oct. 13. We first spoke with Eckart Preu (pronounced PROY), music director of the Long Beach Symphony. If you've only experienced Preu conducting on stage then your impressions are of an imposing, what the New York Times called, "fiery" individual. When he conducted Beethoven’s Ninth, last spring, we wrote that he attacked Beethoven’s masterpiece as if "it had run over his dog." But meeting Eckart Preu is a whole other thing; he's funny and personable. We spoke to him about not only the art of conducting but the business of it that means you can’t always be as friendly as you’d like. We also talked about his growing up in East Germany and how music got him through that, alive. Oh, and for a few glorious moments, we spoke of Sade. Like Preu, James Bass gets it. Approachable and funny, he understands better than most that music not only has the power to change lives but to do it in a moment because it changed the course of his life in an instant in grade school. Music eventually delivered him from a hard-scrabble life in Florida that he says he’s not sure he would have survived. Bass, who also teaches singing at UCLA, is artistic director of the Camareta Singers, the classical music choir that performs on its own and with local music outfits such as the LB Symphony and Musica Angelica. We spoke with him about musical salvation, the unique pull of the human voice and what a good time it is to be a singer. 0:40 Ekart Preu shares how music saved his life and became his livelihood 2:50 That time he scared the hell out of that singer 34:54 Steve and Ekart have a moment, A Sade moment 39:40 James Bass talks about how he went from growing up in Florida to directing the Camerata Singers 1:19:22 What sound is that, Steve?

In this second part of a two-part special series I focus on the importance, and process, of finding meaning and purpose in life, as found in the book Man’s Search For Meaning, by Viktor Frankl. Frankl explains how responsibility to oneself and others (and to what life is asking of you) is a vital counterpart to freedom, a concept echoed by many present-day authors, including notable thought leaders like Jordan Peterson and Jocko Wilink. If you only listen to one of these two episodes on Frankl’s book, this is the one to listen to for sure, because we talk and reflect on the second section of the book which is where Frankl goes into detail about the actual process of finding meaning in life. My 15 year old son Joseph joined me for this second part of the series, and offers his generation’s unique perspective on this issue. We definitely added a lot of our own thoughts to what Frankl wrote about this topic, so I hope you enjoy as we discuss: Distinctions between Freud, Adler, and Frankl The importance of the pursuit of meaning in general (the will to meaning) How meaning is found in each and every moment What it means to answering life’s questions for each of us - not just challenges, but gifts as well If people aren’t motivated by money and power, then what does motivate them? How smiling more can make you happier Why is that men tend to have more issues with purpose and meaning? What does Peterson mean when he echoes Frankl’s views on how our “rights” are only half of the conversation - what about the responsibilities that come with those rights? What responsibilities might come with our rights as “freedom loving” Americans? What country might gift the US a statue of responsibility? Did Frankl in 1946 predict accurately that technological advancements in AI and robotics would lead to an increase in existential crises from a lack of meaning and purpose? What does it mean when a person in the Christian faith says their purpose is found in God? How spiritual disciplines fit into the daily practice of seeking purpose in faith What does it mean that we find out who we are by discovering who we are not? There’s no one particular abstract meaning of life - it is unique to each person Our invitation for Jocko Wilink to come on the show and change Joseph’s mind The three specific ways Frankl describes as paths to finding meaning What can be done to turn the tide on the lack of responsibility in society - if anything Links: Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning The TED Talk on smiling Joseph referred to Herzberg’s 2 factor theory (Motivation/Hygiene) for what truly motivates people The Statue of Responsibility prototype at UVU in Utah Jordan Peterson’s Self-Authoring suite Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules For Living: An Antidote to Chaos The 4th Industrial Revolution: A Guardian article about whether a life lived with robots taking over our jobs is really worth living The authentic manhood program, originally taught by Robert Lewis in 2005, where he described a crisis of masculinity due to an unclear idea of what it means to be a man today (and included rejecting passivity as part of the solution) Benjamin Franklin’s exhortation to prayer Jocko Wilink’s Extreme Ownership: How US Navy Seals Lead and Win The great movie about the importance of outlook and attitude, The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life

Blues / Jazz Producer and'70's Soul Singer The Natural Four's Chris Bell , Pens Revealing Memoir "Music Saved My Live"   Ollan Christopher Bell, better known at Chris James, the co-founder of the 70's hit making soul group, The Natural Four, has released his memoir,"Music Saved My Life, From Darkness Into The Light, My Life As A 70's R&B/Soul Singer." In the book, he takes us behind the music and on an intimate trek through his life and times.  James is the husband of jazz and blues diva, Zakiya Hooker.   In addition to producing all five of Zakiya Hooker's albums, he also produced the final John Lee Hooker CD "Face to Face." In addition, James is also the president and co-owner of the John Lee Hooker Boom Boom Recording Studio in Douglasville, Georgia. His last project was a compilation of jazz standards entitled, "Tenderly, Unplugged."  A good old school love song can take you on a journey and incite the resurgence of memories long gone. The 1973 hit "Can This Be Real" is a prime example. The melody was a Top 40 break through on the R&B charts and The Natural Four were the singular force behind the hit. Ollan Christopher Bell, better known as Chris James knows first-hand about song-induced travels. The Natural Four was his group and in his newly released memoirs "Music Saved My Life, From Darkness Into The Light, My Life As A 70's R&B/Soul Singer" he takes us on an intimate trek through his life and times.

The 86th Academy Awards Kicks Off The Oscars, one of the biggest events on the film festival circuit, has just ended this year's run. Zhang Ru has the details. Reporter: On March 2 local time, the 86th Academy Awards raised its curtains in Los Angeles. Bringing down many strong opponents, 12 Years A Slave won the best picture award at this year's Oscars. (best picture announcement) Based on a true story and directed by Briton Steve McQueen, it follows the life of Solomon Northup, a free black man in New York kidnapped and sold into slavery in Louisiana. This period drama also won the title of best adapted screenplay. The best original screenplay prize went to the director of the film "Her", Spike Jonze. However, it was still a big night for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. This white-knuckle space thriller took home 7 Academy Awards out of ten nominations, including best director, best visual efforts and best cinematography. The film, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, won in many of the technical categories. (Gravity movie clip) The film's director Cuarón described shooting Gravity as transformative experience. (Curason speech) "Like any other human, ever make a film can be a transformative experience. And I want to thank Gravity. Because for many of us involved in this film, it was definitely a transformative experience. And it's good, because it took so long if it was not it would have been a waste of time. And what really sucks is that for a lot of these people, that transformation was wisdom but for me it was just the color of my hair!" Matthew McConaughey was named as best actor for his portrayal of an Aids activist in Dallas Buyers Club, beating fellow nominees Christian Bale, Bruce Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. And his co-star, Jared Leto won best supporting actor prize for his role as a transgender woman. In an emotional speech, Jared Leto thanked his mother for teaching him to dream while dedicating the film to those who suffer from the disease. (Leto) "This is for the 36 million people out there who have lost the battle to Aids, and those of you who have ever felt injustice because of who you are, or who you love. Tonight, I stand in front of the world with you, and for you." As for the ladies, Blue Jasmine star Cate Blanchett won her Oscar for best actress after beating off stiff competition from Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep. Meanwhile, Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o earned the title of best supporting actress for her performance in her debut film 12 Years a Slave. ("12 Years a Slave" clip) Disney's blockbuster musical cartoon Frozen has been ruling the box office and was honored with the best animated feature award. Its tune, "Let it Go" won best original song. ("Let it Go") The award for the best foreign language film was handed to Italian movie The Great Beauty without a hitch, having already pocketed awards at the Golden Globes, European Film and British Academy Film Awards. ("The Great Beauty" clip) "Twenty Feet from Stardom" won for best documentary. And "The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life" won best documentary short. The Great Gatsby won best costume and production design while the make-up and hairstyling award went to Dallas Buyers Club.

The subject of the Academy Award–winning documentary The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life, Alice Herz-Sommer was the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor when she died on February 23, 2014. A Century of Wisdom is the true story of her life—an inspiring story of resilience and the power of optimism. ------------------- Before her death at 110, the pianist Alice Herz-Sommer was an eyewitness to the entire last century and the first decade of this one. She had seen it all, surviving the Theresienstadt concentration camp, attending the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem, and along the way coming into contact with some of the most fascinating historical figures of our time. As a child in Prague, she spent weekends and holidays in the company of Franz Kafka (whom she knew as “Uncle Franz”), and Gustav Mahler, Sigmund Freud, and Rainer Maria Rilke were friendly with her mother. When Alice moved to Israel after the war, Golda Meir attended her house concerts, as did Arthur Rubinstein, Leonard Bernstein, and Isaac Stern. Until the end of her life Alice, who lived in London, practiced piano for hours every day.
