Jurors in a federal court convicted 36-year-old Cory Martin for the murder of 26-year-old Brandy Odom, aimed at cashing in on life insurance policies. Martin's fascination with TV shows on serial killers seemingly inspired his gruesome crime. Martin, facing life imprisonment, alongside his co-defendant Adelle Anderson, 35, orchestrated the murder and dismemberment of Odom in April 2018. Prosecutors revealed that the pair had taken out life insurance policies on Odom's life prior to the murder. Martin, described as a pimp by prosecutors, viewed Odom as a money making opportunity, exploiting her for commercial sex before killing her. During the trial, Anderson testified that she and Martin watched true-crime shows like "The First 48" to plan the murder and evade detection. Martin even drew inspiration from the TV series "Dexter" to perfect his crime. The jury dismissed defense claims of a love triangle and found Martin guilty based on evidence, including his internet searches related to the case and the purchase of a reciprocating saw for dismemberment. After strangling Odom in her bedroom, Martin and Anderson purchased cleaning supplies to conceal the crime. They then disposed of Odom's remains in Canarsie Park. Martin's subsequent internet searches, including news articles about the discovery of the body parts, further incriminated him as detailed in court documents: In the early morning of April 8 and April 9, 2018, Martin disposed of Odom's body parts in Canarsie Park with the assistance of his co-conspirator. On April 10, 2018, Martin conducted dozens of Internet searches for news articles, including “Search area expands after dismembered body found in Canarsie Park in Brooklyn.” Martin also accessed a Twitter post titled “Person walking dog discovers remains of woman in Brooklyn park.” The following day on April 11, 2018, Martin searched YouTube using the search term “exclusive interview of mother of girl found in park.” After Odom's murder, at Martin's direction, his co-conspirator made several unsuccessful attempts to claim benefits under Odom's life insurance policies. The prosecution highlighted Martin's premeditated actions, including his purchase of a reciprocating saw, as evidence of his intent to commit the murder. Court documents revealed Martin's online search history and his purchase of the saw just days before the murder. Court documents stated: On or about April 6, 2018, at approximately 4:36 p.m., Martin accessed online listings for “Reciprocating Saws” on the Home Depot website and accessed a page for the “Dewalt 12-Amp Corded Reciprocating Saw,” described as featuring a “powerful 12 Amp motor designed for heavy-duty applications.” At approximately 5:52 p.m. the same day, the Home Depot in Valley Stream, New York recorded the purchase, in cash, of a Dewalt 12-Amp Corded Reciprocating Saw, five saw blades and black contractor bags. At approximately 7:15 p.m. that day, Martin searched YouTube for the following search terms: “how to insert blade for reciprocating saw” and “using reciprocating saw,” which he subsequently deleted from his phone. United States Attorney Breon Peace of the Eastern District of New York condemned Martin's actions, emphasizing the gravity of the crime and the need for justice for Odom's family. Martin's sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 23, where he faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars for his heinous act motivated by greed. In today's True Crime Tuesday episode of Love and Murder, we delve into a case that proves life can be stranger than fiction. Corey Martin and Adelle Anderson, a pair that believed they could outsmart the law by taking cues from true crime shows, find themselves ensnared in their own web of deceit and murder. On a seemingly peaceful morning in Brooklyn's Canarsie Park, the discovery of 26-year-old Brandy Odom's dismembered body shatters the tranquility of the neighborhood. As we unravel the case, we learn of the twisted motives behind the murder and the investigation takes a bizarre turn when we uncover the perpetrators' method: studying true crime shows to perfect their crime.Join me as I reveiw the trial, the testimonies, and the shocking revelations that expose a tale of greed, betrayal, and a murder that was anything but perfect. And as we reflect on this case, we ask ourselves: Can the consumption of true crime content ever cross a line? Can you think of a fitting punishment for a crime so grotesquely calculated? Let me know your verdict.*************************************************************************************************

It's the last Tuesday of the month (they come around quickly!) and today I'm sitting down to chat about Love Sick by Cory Martin. A book based on Cory's life that follows the ups and downs of being 28, living in Hollywood, dating, and trying to make it as a writer, when suddenly she is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). In this episode I talk about what resonated with me with my own experience of being diagnosed with MS in my twenties, how traumatic lumbar punctures are, the horrendous English boyfriend's text message, and I get to ask Cory some questions… including whether everything in Love Sick is true or not. Simply put, sports is a haven for Reyno Arredondo '87. From his days playing soccer to his time on the wrestling mat, Arredondo says that athletics was crucial to keeping him focused on the tasks at hand. Sitting down with Luke Nayfa (1:28), Arredondo described his journey from the neighborhoods of West Dallas through the military to where he is now. As for Cory Martin (23:00), soccer has been more than a hobby. It's been a passion, a lifestyle for as long as he can remember. Whether it was youth leagues or walking on at SMU or a brief stint in Europe, no time is a bad time to talk soccer with Martin, and Peter Orsak took advantage of the opportunity to do so. This episode was quite a powerful one for me.For the past few months I have been trying to learn more about addiction - the history of how our society views addiction, uncovering the false information that built the foundation of our ideas around it, what addiction truly is, the factors that are in place that lead one to addiction, places in the world that are going against the grain and making positive change for addicts and how we view addiction, etc. This lead to me to Cory and the work that she is doing with The Recovery Revolution. The Recovery Revolution's mission is to unify those suffering from addiction with their families and loved ones, and to provide functional, personal, and medically sound solutions for the families and loved ones of those struggling with substance abuse.During our conversation Cory shared:what is The Recovery Revolution & how it beganCory shared with me a bit about her own journey with addiction / recoverythe opposite of addiction is connectionwhy we need to change our mindset on mental health and addictionaddiction = adaptationthe effect our culture has on relationships & addictionadvice Cory would give to someone who is supporting a loved one who struggles with addiction further resources and more! For more information, resources, and detailed show notes check out my website.Connect with me on InstagramCONNECT WITH CORY:The Recovery RevolutionCory Exists WebsiteThe Recovery Revolution on InstagramConnect with Cory on InstagramMENTIONED:Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong by Johann HariDr. Gabor MateBrene BrownBOOKS:Lost Connections by Johann HariChasing the Scream by Johann HariThe Four Agreements by Don Miguel RuizThe Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

As a child I walked through drugs and mayhem.  I never done them, but I cam out the other side a better man.  You are probably wondering about my mom and dad.  While my mom was amazing, while struggling through addiction.  My dad is pathetically sad.  He’s a drunk, he was a punk, and ultimately a disgrace.  He would eventually die in prison for shooting a man in the face.  As a boy, I was touched by another.  My mom was going through so much stuff, I didn’t even tell her.  I watched my grandfather get shot in the chest with a shotgun.  I can’t make this stuff up.  LIFE, is that all you got?  In this episode, we speak with Cory Martin who is a motivational speaker, entrepreneur and retired firefighter.  He has plenty of life experiences and all around good story.

"Wow!" Liam pointed to the back of the cereal box. "Look at this race car model. It's just like the car Cory Martin drives. You know--the guy who's been winning lately! This is so big you can sit in it! Cool! Can I cut this out and send it in so I can get one? It's free!" "Free?" asked Dad. "I doubt it!" "It is!" Liam insisted. "It says so right here. Listen! 'Mail this in to get your own life-size race car model, absolutely free!'" He turned to his dad. "Can I do it, Dad? Please?" Dad took the box and read the offer himself. "The car itself may be free," he said, "but you need to send fifteen dollars for postage and handling." "That's still not much, Dad," said Liam. "Where else could I get a model that size for fifteen dollars?" "When an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is," said Dad, "but if you want to use your own money, you can send it in." So Liam sent his money on its way and waited eagerly for the car to arrive. Finally, a package came for him. It was surprisingly small for a race car, and upon opening it, Liam found a lot of pieces of cardboard and plastic. "Looks like I have to put the car together myself," he said. "Will you help me, Dad?" Dad agreed to help, and when everything was finally in place, Liam stood back and looked at the car sadly. "If this is life-size, it must be meant for a two-year-old!" he said as he cautiously stepped into it. He sat down, and with one big KERPLOP the car collapsed. Liam sighed. "So much for the race car. You were right, Dad. When an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is." "Unfortunately, that is almost always true," agreed Dad. "But I can think of one big exception." "You can?" asked Liam. "What is it?" "God offers us the gift of salvation and eternal life, and because Jesus paid for it by dying on the cross for our sins and coming back to life, it really is free." Liam nodded as he looked at the race car. "I'm so glad God's offer really is true!" LINDA M. WEDDLE How About You? Have you ever been disappointed by a special offer? That will never happen with the free gift God offers--one so valuable you could never pay for it. The gift He offers is eternal life through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Don't miss out on this amazing offer. If you have not accepted this gift by trusting in Jesus, do it today. (To learn more, click the "Good News!" button in the right column of this page.) We are back to tell you the latest and greatest when it comes to Windows 10. Join us to hear our take on it and how you can best have an enjoyable experience with this revolutionary new version of Microsoft’s newest release. Cory Martin, Thomas Geczy and Leonid Prazdnik all welcome Quentin Christensen from 22 Point, a blogger and developer who also happens to be writing a book on Windows 10 from a blindness/low vision perspective. To view Quentin's excellent blog, click here. So pull up a chair and join us as we discuss our experiences thus far. Here are the highlights: Windows 10 will launch on July 29th. The release will be staggered releases starting with desktop/laptops, then phones and Xbox. The upgrade path for Windows 7/8 will be free if the upgrade offer is used within the first year, however a single user license is estimated at $129/£99/€135 to start. The free upgrade will be free for the duration of the lifecycle of the product it is running on. Windows 10 is expected to be the last version ever, being upgraded with feature releases as time goes on. There will be a total of 7 versions: IoT, Mobile, Home, Enterprise and Professional, Mobile Enterprise, and Education. Cortana is improved from the early beta days and now has the ability to dictate E-mail, as well as being more tightly integrated in to the OS with a highly polished feel. Microsoft Edge will be the new browser from Microsoft, though for legacy support, Internet Explorer will also be offered. As screen reader users we may need to stay away from Edge for the time being, unless you’re willing to run nightly beta software. Virtual desktops will be offered in Windows 10 and are quite useful, though may pose some key conflicts with other favorite Twitter software in the community. The start menu has returned to an older style, though still offering the tiled approach for the modern apps. The notification center has been greatly enhanced and now replaces notification balloons, allowing the user to scroll through and selectively or collectively dismiss notifications. Screen readers are expected to support Windows 10 at launch, though currently NVDA is pulling ahead of the pack in terms of support. Give the show a listen to hear us discuss all of these highlights and much more. As always, feel free to contact us with any feedback you may have, we’d love to hear from you.
