Blog summary of a trending research paper published in Volume 14, Issue 18, entitled, "The association between continuous ambulatory heart rate, heart rate variability, and 24-h rhythms of heart rate with familial longevity and aging." ______________________________________ A normal resting heart rate (HR) for adults should be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute. A low resting heart rate has been associated with better overall health and fitness. Crosswise, a higher resting heart rate appears to have a strong correlation with mortality. Heart rate variability (HRV), the beat-to-beat changes in heart rate, is indicative of the heart's ability to respond to changes in physical and emotional stress. Low HRV has been shown to be a risk factor for heart disease, while high HRV has been associated with good heart health. Although HR and HRV are frequently studied, these parameters are not often investigated continuously or over long periods of time in healthy, middle-aged individuals. “Parameters of HR and HRV are often investigated during a short electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement at the study center or in the hospital, but not continuously over a longer period while individuals continue with their daily lives.” In a new study, researchers Janneke M. Wiersema, Annelies E.P. Kamphuis, Jos H.T. Rohling, Laura Kervezee, Abimbola A. Akintola, Steffy W. Jansen, P. Eline Slagboom, Diana van Heemst, and Evie van der Spoel from Leiden University Medical Center and Catharina Hospital used continuous ambulatory ECG measurements collected over a period of 24 to 90 hours to investigate the relationship between heart rate parameters and familial longevity and chronological age. On August 16, 2022, their research paper was published in Aging's Volume 14, Issue 18, and entitled, “The association between continuous ambulatory heart rate, heart rate variability, and 24-h rhythms of heart rate with familial longevity and aging.” Full blog - https://aging-us.org/2022/10/does-a-link-exist-between-longevity-aging-and-heart-rate-parameters/ DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.204219 Corresponding author - Evie van der Spoel - e.van_der_spoel@lumc.nl Sign up for free Altmetric alerts about this article - https://aging.altmetric.com/details/email_updates?id=10.18632%2Faging.204219 Keywords - aging, longevity, continuous ambulatory measurements, heart rate, heart rate variability About Aging-US Launched in 2009, Aging-US publishes papers of general interest and biological significance in all fields of aging research and age-related diseases, including cancer—and now, with a special focus on COVID-19 vulnerability as an age-dependent syndrome. “We live in a world in which it is easier to divide things than unify them. Politics and polarization are both connected to the root word ‘pole' which can appear as a unifying central pole, as in a tent, but can also divide into opposite poles. The unifying energy is there, but is not visible because it is not yet conscious.” So begins this replay of podcast in which Michael Meade considers the essential dynamic of opposition leading to a new state of unity. In order to uncover the deeper sense and meaning of opposition and polarization, Meade goes to an ancient practice from a small tribe near the Amazon River. The ideas about the wise and the crosswise aspects of the soul helps elucidate the sense that in our individual lives and our collective experiences we are often looking for and longing for the third thing that is the medicine we most need. "Who run the world?" Girls. But then why do we keep telling them it's so hard for them to make it in a man's world? Why is the rate of young girls "transitioning" and rejecting biological realities about themselves at an historic high? Why do girls always want to be "one of the boys"? All of these messages, not to mention the sexual pressure put on young women to embrace promiscuity because "men get to," are destroying young women and girls and progressivism is to blame.Sadly, there is nothing progressive about disregarding the uniqueness of womanhood and femininity. In this follow up episode to "Raising Boys," Ciara and Jessi take on the dangerous influences the culture is having on girls, how they view their place in the world as women, and how the sexual revolution has caused irreparable damage to our impressionable and fragile daughters.*Parental discretion is advised, as this episode contains adult themes that may not be suitable for younger listeners.Show Notes:Episode 38: Raising Boys https://www.buzzsprout.com/1538023/9516739-ep-38-raising-boysEpisode 19: Sex, Submission, and Standing Up to Sin https://www.buzzsprout.com/1538023/8539917-ep-19-sex-submission-and-standing-up-to-sinEpisode 21: Husbands, Hierarchy, and Headship in the Home https://www.buzzsprout.com/1538023/8622240-ep-21-husbands-hierarchy-and-headship-in-the-homeThe Federalist- Women and STEM https://thefederalist.com/2018/04/12/science-male-female-brains-helps-explain-women-dont-choose-tech-careers/The Guardian: Smashing the Patriarchy https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/nov/02/smashing-the-patriarchy-why-theres-nothing-natural-about-male-supremacyIrreversible Damage https://www.amazon.com/Irreversible-Damage-Transgender-Seducing-Daughters/dp/1684510317The Flipside of Feminism https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1935071270/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i5Where's Mom? Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.09.04.283234v1?rss=1 Authors: Schau, G., Burlingame, E. A., Chang, Y. H. Abstract: Deep learning systems have emerged as powerful mechanisms for learning domain translation models. However, in many cases, complete information in one domain is assumed to be necessary for sufficient cross-domain prediction. In this work, we motivate a formal justification for domain-specific information separation in a simple linear case and illustrate that a self-supervised approach enables domain translation between data domains while filtering out domain-specific data features. We introduce a novel approach to identify domain-specific information from sets of unpaired measurements in complementary data domains by considering a deep learning cross-domain autoencoder architecture designed to learn shared latent representations of data while enabling domain translation. We introduce an orthogonal gate block designed to enforce orthogonality of input feature sets by explicitly removing non-sharable information specific to each domain and illustrate separability of domain-specific information on a toy dataset. This week Paul sits down with his old friend Steve W. Lauden, a rock drummer turned crime fiction writer. Steve was signed A&M Records in 1998 with his band Ridel High, for the album Emotional Rollercoaster. He was then signed to Hollywood Records with his band Tsar, whose eponymous debut came out in 2000. Tsar's sophomore release, Band Girls Money, was recorded while they were on Hollywood, and was later released on TVT Records in 2005, after Lauden had left the band. Tsar reformed in 2010 to release the Dark Stuff EP, featuring the original lineup. Steve continues to play and record with Tsar and a number of other musical projects. Most recently, Lauden began writing crime fiction. His debut novel "Bad Citizen Corporation" will be published by Rare Bird Books in October, 2015. His novella "Crosswise" will be released in 2016 by Down & Out Books. Paul sat down with Steve after his reading at The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles to talk about rock, drumming, dead bodies, screenplays, and other awesome subjects.
