The D.D.C (Adelaide Fringe 2021) https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/the-d-d-c-af2021 Is your Dad dead? Ours are. Is this a terrible premise for a comedy show? Probably. This multi-award winning line-up includes some of the best local and international acts (lucky for us, some of the best international acts got stuck here because of the ‘Rona). You don't have to be a member of the Dead Dads Club to enjoy the show, just be aware that you are not really the target audience… yet. Also, if you were offended by that last line, you should be aware that it gets much worse, you've been warned. Rammer Jammer, listener. This week we have Mr. Sadvent himself, Jason Sims. We reminisce about escaping Alabama, talk Christmas music, and shake our canes at the young people. Then Jason inducts me into the Dead Dads Club with an analysis of Randy Newman's "Ghosts." We discuss death and grief in a way that only aging Xers can. Then we spin THE WHEEL and Dan gets angry. There's something special bout this episode, folks.

In this interview, I get to talk IN-PERSON with Julian Shendelman about his new chapbook, Dead Dad Club (Nomadic Press, 2017).  Julian Shendelman has a weird looking dog (part fawn, part fruit bat) and a nice Jewish boyfriend. After 10 years of living in Oakland, where he was an organizer for the Bay Area Trans Writers Workshop, Julian is relocating to Philadelphia with hopes of having more time to write. He was a 2016 Pushcart nominated poet for his piece in Bat City Review, and won a Literary Death Match with a true story about queer punk cannibalism. His first published chapbook, “Dead Dad Club,” was released by Nomadic Press in March of this year.   Poets and groups mentioned in this episode: Cam Awkward-Rich (check out the interview I did with Cam here) Zach Ozma Thel Seraphim Bay Area Trans Writers Workshop (if you're in the area, not-cisgender and not a jerk, please come!) What makes us who we are today is from our parents. Good or bad it made you who you are and you have the choice to take your gifts and share it with the world or keep it for yourself. In this episode I talk about the World Series being a wonderful distraction from a horrible election. If the Indians win they join the Cavs as champions which means the Cleveland Browns need to step up their game and become vicious and start ripping peoples face off.  I also talk about the wonderful Podcast of the day, and a secret underground club called the "Dead Dads Club". If you lost your father, I'm sorry, but you are now apart of that a lot of people have in common with. You are not alone.   Topics Include: Cubs, Indians, World Series, Baseball, Caveliers, Brett Favre, Trump, Mexicans, Wall, Hillary, Politics, Dead Dads Club, Depression, Having Fun, Life, Podcast, Sacramento, Stand-Up, Comedy, Kevin Meaney

Montana-native Rachael Cardiello honed her songwriting chops in the "velvet rut" of Victoria BC, surrounded by some of Canada's finest songwriters. She sat down with Derek & Travis for what turned out to be a very emotional interview, opening up about depression, spending time in a mental hospital, and writing songs as a way of coping, and how from such turmoil she has come to front the soulful and joyous rock band Warm Electric Winter in Toronto and engage in a plethora of side-projects including the James Burrows Band and the Dead Dads Club.
