Nomiki was part of the Unity Reform Commission that reformed several processes in the Democratic primary. She also is in a PAC called Matriarch that was founded to help working class women get elected to Congress. We begin the show with some background on the Unity Reform Commission and how recommendations changed the Iowa Caucuses. She addresses the changes that affected superdelegates. Nomiki talks about what unfolded with the Iowa Caucuses and how states determine whether to hold a caucus or a primary. She highlights one particular smear campaign that was fueled by Neera Tanden and Joy Reid. Throughout our conversation, Nomiki consistently emphasizes that Democrats are fighting over conflicts of interests. They are fighting over the budget. They are fighting over who gets money and who doesn't. Battles over money carry more significance than ensuring superdelegates have influence on the party. Later in the show, Nomiki discusses what fractures the centrist wing of the Democratic Party. What policies proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders terrify them the most? We talk about DNC Chair Tom Perez and how he lobbied for the Iowa Democratic Party to use the app from Shadow. We dig into the cronyism plaguing our elections, and we look ahead to New Hampshire and the rest of the primary, getting Nomiki's views on Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, and Mike Bloomberg.

WTF Iowa Democratic Party. Really? After Iowa’s Democratic caucus meltdown on Monday, we finally got the kinda, sorta, final results. As of last night, with 100% reporting, Pete Buttigieg is .1% ahead of Bernie Sanders in the “State Delegate Equivalent” tally. However, Sanders won the most number of votes in the first round and in the second “realignment” vote. Elizabeth Warren finished a strong third while Uncle Joe came in fourth, raising questions about the viability of his campaign. DNC Chair Tom Perez says there needs to be a recount.  Tonight is the New Hampshire Democratic debate, this time with only seven candidates making the cut: Sanders, Warren, Biden, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Yang, and yes, Tom Steyer.  On Tuesday, Trump gave a carnivalesque State of the Union address and Nancy Pelosi tore that shit up. Literally. As I wrote in the pages of Raging Chicken this week, Trump’s State of the Union address should put all Democrats on notice that he’s making a strong play for reelection.  Senate Republicans voted to ignore the evidence and acquit Trump. Now he’s free to really set fire to the nation.  Mitt Romney gives a pretty freaking great speech and becomes the only Senator in history to vote to convict a president of their own part on impeachment charges. Now the media is gushing over Romney the Statesman.  Governor Wolf’s budget:  Wolf proposed a $36 billion budget. There would be no major major tax increases. Wolf proposes to boost funding for public education, expand full-day kindergarten to all students, borrow money to address environmental hazards in schools, raise the minimum wage, and make sweeping changes to how charter schools are funded. Donald Trump took time out of his state of the union address to attack Governor Tom Wolf over Governor Wolf vetoing an unprecedented EITC / Charter school grift last summer.  And you’d never guess where his talking points came from. Straight from the Commonwealth Foundation themselves. NASA astronaut Christina Koch returned to Earth yesterday, setting a new record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. She spent 328 days on the International Space Station. Her scientific work on the ISS ranged from Koch frequently growing leafy greens to study the effects of microgravity on plant biology to studying how fire behaves in space to studying how kidney health is affected by microgravity and other factors of space travel, such as diet,  water conservation, and recycling. Pretty cool stuff. Space X is held a Starship career day yesterday to ramp up production of its interplanetary Starship project and speed the race to Mars. According to Elon Musk, the event was mainly "for staffing up 4 production shifts for 24/7 operations, but engineers, supervisors & support personnel are certainly needed too. A super hardcore work ethic, a talent for building things, common sense & trustworthiness are required, the rest we can train.” Musk is also hiring at Tesla and he Tweeted out that you don’t even need a high school diploma.  While the Space Force made it into Trump’s State of the Union address, Space Force planners are still struggling with what to call the new troops. They have consulted the language department of the Air Force Academy and the Defense Language Institute about possible designations. According to Lt. Gen. David Thompson, who is assigned as the vice commander of the Space Force, they are taking the matter very seriously. The one thing he could tell us at this point is that they have ruled out both “spacemen” and “space cadets.” And everything I just said is actually happening. Like, for real.  Two new Free Will Brewing releases tomorrow. First, the can with the best freaking label and name, the debut of their brand new collab with the folks  Lost Tavern Brewing, it’s Snowmower - Cream Ale with Vanilla Bean. A super crushable “lawnmower” style ale... for the chillier times! 5.2% ABV⁣. Then there’s the debut of Eon Blue, Free Will’s brand new Barleywine.⁣ It’s an “English style Barleywine brewed with a base of halcyon pale malt which we patiently boiled for a lengthy 5 hours. As is tradition, this interpretation of the classic English style lets the malt character shine, with less bitter hop character found in many American iterations. The result is a beer filled with notes of vanilla, graham cracker, and nutty toffee.” 9% ABV⁣

Days away from the Iowa Caucuses, Rania Khalek and Kevin Gosztola spend this week's episode talking about evidence that indicates elites in the Democratic National Committee are working to rig the primary against Senator Bernie Sanders (again). Kevin for The Grayzone on the corporate lobbyists, Wall Street consultants, regime-change agents, think tank board members, and former campaign staff for Hillary Clinton that were appointed by DNC Chair Tom Perez to convention committees. A from Kevin featured bios on each of the individuals in this cartoonishly neoliberal cast. Only one of the people appointed to committees is a prominent Sanders supporter. Several are known for their open hostility to a presidential candidate, who has surged into first place in multiple state polls. "The Jimmy Dore Show" through this thread, trying to joke as they made sense of how these ghouls were elevated by the DNC this week. But even they were struggled to joke, as they were stunned at the brazenness of a political party that still engages in acts which are a slap in the face to working class people. We now see the DNC changed rules for debate qualifications to help Mike Bloomberg make the stage for the next debate. Bloomberg donated the maximum to most of the party's state committees. The DNC is allowing a Republican billionaire to hijack their party to stop Sanders. Even so, the Sanders campaign has a lot of strength going into the Iowa Caucuses on February 3, and Rania and Kevin spend the episode digging into these developments and what is at stake.

It is incredibly sad that Joe Biden lost his son, Beau, to brain cancer. I cannot imagine how terrible that must be. I don't have a problem with him promising to devote all available resources to cancer research - or even being hopeful that we can find a cure. But to promise it is something altogether different that plays to the hopes of Americans. Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop sued (again) - this time by Autumn Scardina, a transgender woman. Scardina is suing because Phillips refused to bake a gender transition cake for her because it violates his Christian faith. Is there only one bakery in Lakewood, Colorado?

PLEASE NOTE: ---------------------This edition was meant to be published Monday, 6th of May, but was published later in the week by mistake ------------------ Thom probes the evidence that Trump is already trying to start a war to insure his re-election. ------ Remember how GW Bush's team talked us into attacking Iraq, even though Iraq had no WMD's, and nothing to do with 9-11? Now, as Trump sends a Navy battlegroup to the area, and given the recent ultimatum against Iran, what is this all leading to? ------ Trump is normalizing 'the Imperial Presidency' - what are the dangers of the growing American authoritarianism in our government? ------ Thom debunks the Biden 'put em back in chains' myth- just one part of the ever-growing body of right-wing mythmaking- how can we fight it? ------ John Bolton just might get his dream of war with Iran. ------ Tom Perez- chairman of the DNC- talks strategy for countering Bill Barr's lies and other aspects of Trump's authoritarian power grab. ------ Bob Ney- Iran expert and speaker of Farsi- reviews war-monger John Bolton's past actions- including that time he threatened to kill somebody's children if they didn't help start the Iraq war. What is Bolton saying now that the media is ignoring? What is the intention of the chickenhawk ultimatum our government has just threatened Iran with?

Let them eat chocolate cake...while we kill civilians. Who'll save us from WWIII? Certainly not the Republicans... but not the Democrats either! Prominent Democrats praise Trump's response to Syria and call for one of their own to be ousted from Congress for telling the truth! Of course, when what Tulsi Gabbard says exposes Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Democrats once again choose party over people. Speaking of party over people, Democrats start their "Unity Tour" with new DNC Chair Tom Perez visiting seven states with Bernie Sanders. And (we suppose) in the spirit of unity, Hillary Clinton now decides she's delighted with New York's free public college tuition plan, a plan she ridiculed during the presidential primary debates. Bernie starts his own podcast (see below)! He offers reliable information about vital issues. This is the stuff that SHOULD be on MSNBC, but it appears Rachel Maddow and the rest think deflecting blame from the Democrats rests in massive amounts of coverage regarding.....RUSSIA! We give not only the disturbing numbers, but the irresponsible fearmongering Maddow engages in as the putative leader of the of the Democratic Party Media. If you're still a fan of the very popular (according to widespread reports) Bernie Sanders you'll want to keep the focus on progressive struggles over education, healthcare and civil rights, and perhaps most importantly, steering our country away from nuclear confrontation. The What Would Bernie Sanders Do Podcast is Dr. Barry Kaufman with Host Darren Stephens and is produced in Chicago by Ruth Kaufman.
