Hey, Neighbor! The Comedian's family lives within 75 miles of the Indy 500 race track, so we settle a very important question: does racing count as a "sport?" And can we call the competitors "athletes" when they sit in a car all afternoon? Then: Just a little more Labor/Birth talk... (Spoilers: Tabby is still pregnant!) (Also, apparently nobody knew what the date was when we recorded.) Later: A former contestant on the Bachelor is struggling with "fertility issues." Just wait until you hear what kind! And: have you heard what's happening in El Salvador? Finally: John ignores a call from his wife. And The McKinneys conducted their annual Book Burning. Here are the details. You can contact the Comedian's Family by emailing nextdoor@johnbranyan.com

Remaining true to their style, John would postulate a situation around a circumstance and call for the question. Merrilee would answer with her marquee response “No!” Finally John postulated the compromise by staging both of them in a moving car. Merrilee looking out the windshield and John looking out the back window. John sending signals to Merrilee about his assessment of road conditions. Merrilee's response - “ I saw it first.” Wait. We are pretty cold over here, Neighbor! Wrap up in your fleece blanket, and you'll fit right in...Luke wants to talk about CHURCH DISCIPLINE today. Let's see if this topic is as controversial as the last one he picked... Plus, the Peaches went to an MLK service at an urban church. (What a trip!) Can we weave these two things together? Later: Luke shares a post from a woman who is outraged that she was excommunicated. Everybody likes the idea of church discipline, as long as it goes one way... The same way everyone loves to talk about "conquering" and fighting for political power--as long as it's in the context of an MLK service and not being applied by a white "Christian Nationalist." Finally: John talked with a guy this week who wants to help thousands of people "make decisions for Christ." But--he doesn't want to have an awkward conversation with his own kids. John Farkas, founder of Golden Spiral Marketing, tells how his first job working in a hardware store prepared him for a career in marketing. According to John, marketing is largely about helping people find the right tools to get a job done. John talks about how his first career in theater led to the founding of his digital agency. From theater John learned there are many different ways to get an idea across, and how important audience interactions are to communication. John followed his love of theater into production and directing. Theater production led to corporate events which led to building websites for businesses. John is a student of pragmatic marketing and believes "our opinions, while interesting, are irrelevant." The customer has the one opinion that matters. Technologists have to imagine the world in the way it ought to be while building a bridge to where users and customers are today. Marketing tells the story of how and why people should "cross the bridge" to the new way. John tells Tom to create value with his marketing. "If we're going to put a blog out, we better learn something when we write it," says John. “Do research that adds to your own knowledge and then share that new knowledge with your audience,” is John's advice for content creators. Tom asks John if activity is more important that content quality. John says social media allows us to have fun with marketing, but the end goal of marketing is serious: value creation. Tom asks John what to look for to know that a marketing spend is worth the price. John says product information takes a long time to show any return while valuable information can attract an audience. “You have to have valuable information to give away if you want to succeed in digital marketing,” says John. Tom asks John about running a family business – John's son is the leader of creative at Golden Spiral. John tells how working with family makes you smarter but requires a lot of discipline around respecting boundaries. Candor is essential for making the relationship work. Finally John talks about differentiation for software products and the importance of how value is delivered when features between products are similar. “If you understand who you are and what you bring, and you understand it extraordinarily well, you're going to see results.”
John talks about President Biden who signed an executive order aimed at making travel to terminate a pregnancy easier for those in need. The order also allows states with legal abortion access to get Medicaid wavers to help out of state people seeking the procedure. He takes calls from Linda in Kansas, Robin in Arizona, and Cheryl in Michigan. Next, John rants on Kyrsten Sinema's fickleness over the Schumer/ Manchin Climate Bill. Then he interviews Amy Littlefield of The Nation magazine on the Kansas abortion vote and reproductive rights in the states heading into the midterms. Finally John talks with Douglas in Chicago on polling, and Mitch from Kent State once again brings his musical expertise and insight to the show. You know the patriarchy is on it's last leg when it can't handle the decision to make highly gendered, gender-normative, heteronormative toys taking a look around themselves and deciding that potatoes probably don't need highly gendered performance when children play with them. But you know, that's what happened when Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head transitioned to just be Potato Head. You would think they would get tired at some point, or break their pearls off from clutching them for so hard...or maybe that's just our naive hope. It's not the representation we deserve, but it is a step down the right path, or as much as global capitalist organization can be counted upon to enact. From there we cover the amazing prospect of an Equality Act passing Congress sometime in the next...sometime. And why these small steps really are important to the day-to-day lives of Queer individuals in this country, and hopefully all others. Finally John and Dean talk about the new Billie Eilish documentary. They are strictly divided along artist/producer lines. Dean identified way too much with Finneas, except for the incredible difference in ability to produce number one tracks and albums. More the annoyed at the artist for being too picky and not wanting to actually record the music, for their music album. John disagrees, but he's not writing these show notes. It's a great watch that only took us three tries to get through. But it brought up major Britney vibes from the still present need of record labels and even fans to posses pop stars, sometime bodily. Go watch it!
In this packed episode John and Aaron go over the recent news in the NFL; Urban Meyer to the Jags, Doug Pederson out in Philly and Dan Quinn as DC in Dallas, and then dive into their reactions to the results of Super Wildcard Weekend. Finally John and Aaron make their picks against the spread for the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs.
We are back with Season 2 of "Shot of Digital Health Therapy" is here! Woot Woot!
On Monday 6-29-20 mining stocks are taking a major leap forward. We discussed Auryn Resources (full disclosure sponsor and we own the stock). Seems like junior miners are having their day in the sun. Rick Rule says a correction is coming. So what to do, sell and then wait and buy back after the decline, or take your investment off the table and reinvest? John and I do our best to confuse the issue. Then we discussed the possible collapse of the Three Gorges Dam and the Stock Market. If the dam gives way we could witness the largest natural/manmade disaster in history with millions dying and 40 percent of China’s economy would die on the vine. The dam produces more electricity than any other power plant in the world. It could leave 30 percent of the country in the dark. Finally John discusses the left’s hypocrisy over Covid 19. It’s okay to riot but not to have a political or to demonstrate against the lockdown. Sounds like a double standard to us.

They give a synopsis and discussion on the plot, with comments and thoughts about the puppetry and vocal performances. Then they dive into themes: Frank talks about classicism and revolution, which is at the forefront of the series thematically. The guys also discuss the them of environmentalism and natural resources. Finally John talks about the idea of shirking's one's duties as well the tragedy of the series. They close with their final thoughts. Quotes "And no. He does something more unexpected, and far more devastating to his dark self." - John"There's this tragedy that's overhanging the whole thing. That is kind of fascinating because normally there's the prequel problem of 'I know what's going to happen so why should I care?' Before we become fathers, we have a far greater amount of time at our disposal to work on ourselves and step up as a man first before carrying the responsibility of raising kids successfully. In order to raise happy kids, we need to know who we are and be satisfied with who we are and the life we have created. Today my guest talks about just that. John Davies is a university language professor who works in South Korea and he leads us through the process by which he is developing himself into the man he wants to be and his family need and deserve. His journey is one that every man must take at some stage of his life in order to live the best he can. He talks about turning from a life of aimless drifting to one of intentional and setting clear objectives. We also discuss working on our relationships with our significant others, specifically when our partner is from another culture, so that our relationships form the backbone for parenting and facing the stresses that come along with that. John tells us about his desire to pass on his core values to his children and how accepting others as they are and not placing expectations on them leads to greater happiness. Finally John points out that the time we spend trying to change others would be better invested in working on ourselves. He is a stoic warrior and his message is pertinent to fathers and future fathers alike.
Sermon from Sunday, June 9, 2019; with Pastor David Shaw.
On to this week’s guest!! Sadly the truth is there are few people I like in the real estate industry and even fewer in the real estate investment industry. John Bedomme is not only of the good ones, he’s one of the great ones. John is a licensed real estate professionals, he listens to what his clients want and get them exactly that. The job is to guide investors as best as possible with the highest possible return on time and investment and John delivers exactly that. When I was checking John’s references (I check references for guests of the show :) I was informed the client was showed seven properties by John and the investor bought five of them because John listened and found them exactly what they wanted. John is also an investor, a top 10% investor as one of the few who achieve double digit investment properties at 12 having started in 2007. Even more important is what a good man, husband and father he is but I won’t spoil it for you here, he shares at around the midpoint of the interview that had me choked up. Finally John is an original member of iWIN and member of the League of Extraordinary Real Estate Professionals that I personally endorse. After you have a listen, you will understand how John qualifies. Without further ado, John Beddome

The island of Patmos is a barren, rock of an island that was used as a prison. Isolated in the Aegean sea, it was desolate, hopeless place. Men were sent there to die. If the forced labor did not get them, the utter loneliness would. John had not committed a crime, but was there because of his preaching the gospel. While we may not physically go to Patmos, we often find ourselves there spiritually or emotionally. We find ourselves in circumstances that trt our mind and soul. What we say to ourselves in such times is more important than what our circumstances tell us. We all have a choice in how we respond to situations. No matter how hard, dire or hopeless our situation is, how we respond will determine the outcome. Feeling sorry for ourselves or looking for pity will not work. John was not alone on Patmos. There were many there in the same situation. Self pity is not the answer. It will not get us out of our Patmos, nor will it make it any easier to live there. In our text, there is a report of deliverance. It contains the truth that a man discovered in a difficult place. One translations says “I found myself on Patmos.” Bro. Hughes chooses to read this not that he found himself ON Patmos, but that he found HIMSELF on Patmos. Our text is a message of self discovery. One thing John found is that he was not going to get off of Patmos by himself. He found out that his present troubles could not overcome his future hope. God kept speaking to John about a future. If finally dawned on John that if God was talking about a future, that he would be in it. As hard as Patmos was, that was not how John’s story would end. John learned was that he was not defined by Patmos. God showed him that he could bear more than Patmos could deal. Finally John learned that he could make it. He did not die on Patmos. John endured much but he was able to live through it. As bad as what we are experiencing may be, God is not going to abandon us there. We have what it takes to overcome. The key is finding yourself in troubled times.
John gets a new look. Then he gets some new friends to help him out with a little project he has been working on. Finally John has some words with himself and gets to do something he has been wanting to do for a long time.

In the third letter of John, the apostle encourages an early church leader in the good that he has done to help missionaries proclaim the story of Jesus. Then John encourages his to continue supporting them. Part two of the short letter is a rebuke of someone coming against the teachings of Paul and against those seeking to help missionaries. Finally John encourages the believers to imitate good and not to imitate evil. Gey yourself out of the way-then to good and boast in the Lord. 3 John For more information about Cross Stone Church, visit us at www.crossstonechurch.org.

As children of God we live by a different standard than the world. The world lives by sight and proof. We live by faith. All of us struggle with living by faith at some point. Faith causes many to stumble because the unknown and the unseen intimidate us. It does not matter how long one has been living for God, we are all susceptible to a failing of faith. It is easy to talk about faith; it is more difficult to demonstrate it. Out scripture text is a glimpse of John the Baptist in a moment of questioning his faith. John was a man who had been unafraid of anything in his ministry. He now finds himself in a prison cell alone and forgotten. He begins to question his ministry, his mission and his life. John sends his disciples to ask Jesus: Are you the one? Bro. Hughes notices some things about this story of John’s faith storm. First, faith storms can happen when the pace of life changes. John had been on the top of the world. He was famous and note worth. He was a major player and was much sought after by the religious leaders of the time. He was now out of favor, and relegated to a prison cell with nothing to do. The second thing was that John was now in a restricted environment. John was used to being free and living in the wilderness, and now he found himself restricted and confined. Finally John was alone in his cell, and was living in silence. No contact with God. There are no recorded visits from Jesus during this time of incarceration. Now alone in his cell, he had to live the message that he had preached. In the silence of his situation, he had to rely on his own message. It is not easy to live our own message. Bro. Hughes asks, “So what do you do when you don’t know what to do?” The answer is that we do just what John did. John reached out to Jesus. He is the one that has the answer. He is the one that we need to rely upon. John not only reached out to Him, he received a word from Him. Jesus provided the confirmation that John needed.
