The Albanese government is to blame for Australia Post closing Glenroy Post Office and dozens of others, because it is ignoring the solution that would fund all postal services. Australia Post's decision to close Glenroy Post Office has sparked outrage in Melbourne's northern suburbs, with local political leaders posting angry objections on Facebook. Local state MLC Evan Mulholland posted: “I'm bitterly disappointed at the decision by Australia Post to close its Glenroy Post Office. So many people in our community rely on this post office for basic services like the paying of bills. When local banks have closed (there's been a few) they make the excuse that locals can go to their local post office. I'm calling on Australia Post to reverse their decision and for the Federal Labor Government to intervene to stop it closing.” The local federal Labor MP Peter Khalil posted: “The decision to close the Glenroy Post Office has come as a shock to me and the residents of Glenroy, and we will advocate to reverse this decision….” The state Labor Member for Broadmeadows Kathleen Matthews-Ward posted: “I'm so furious about Australia Post's decision to close the Glenroy Post Office. Communities need access to services, especially communities like ours with higher than average people with a disability and people over 80 as well as lower than average internet connection, income and car ownership. It is such a bad decision, I'll be doing everything I can to see it reversed.” Merri-bek Mayor Angelica Panopoulos posted in a video: “Hi, we've just had word that the Glenroy Post Office is set to close. This is shocking news for so many of us who know the Post Office to be a vital community asset.” There is a clear solution to the problem of maintaining essential postal services—establishing a national Post Office People's Bank. Postal services and banking services are both essential services. The banks are closing branches all over Australia, denying communities essential banking services, and (except for ANZ) they are also telling the customers they are abandoning to go to the Post Office to do their banking. But with Australia Post also closing Post Offices, these communities are being hit with a double whammy. The solution is a dedicated public postal bank, instead of just the private banks using Bank@Post as an agency. Postal banks are successful all over the world: By using existing Post Office networks they provide banking services cheaply and efficiently, while the revenue from banking helps to fund postal services—there's no need to close Post Offices. A national Post Office people's bank would also provide real competition to the Big Four banks—it's the solution Australia desperately needs. Consider those points within the context of the banking problems that have beset Australia recently: • CBA's severely disruptive national network outage; • Customers denied cash by ANZ and other banks; • The acute crisis of customers being fleeced by sophisticated online scams; • Banks “de-banking” competitors and customers they don't like; • Profit-hungry banks gouging customers by immediately raising interest rates on loans but not deposits; • Banks like NAB defying the Senate inquiry and continuing to close branches. A national Post Office People's Bank is the solution to all these problems. It would be a face-to-face refuge from digital dangers; it would guarantee cash access and payments; it wouldn't discriminate by de-banking any customers; and it would put service before profit. Glenroy and Australia need this solution now.

Happy Halloween all you lovely listeners out there! Take a listen to what most likely will be the longest episode of our show of all time! How can we make an episode that goes longer than the length of the movie you ask? When you get guests on and go on a bit of an excursion it'll always bump your time up. The Good Beer Bad Movie Night went on tour for this episode and paid our friend Kris-from-Geelong a visit. We started the evening up with dinner and beer tastings at Little Creatures Brewery. Then once back at Kris' we start our viewing of the Stephen King classic, "Cujo." We watched "Cujo" in honour of Kris' recent step into Doggy-fatherhood, and were accompanied by his great dane puppy, Ella and his old black cat, Sabbath throughout a good chunk of this episode. While watching "Cujo" we chatted about our love of Halloween, all things Stephen King (films and books), we introduce our listeners to the Gheory Scale from the American Good Beer Bad Movie Night, murderous rabbits, Moon Dog Brewery's new venue, Moon Dog World, Mike's trip to Thailand, Reuben's path of music exploration and the discovery of the American/Cambodian band, Dengue Fever, and the Mongolian band, Hangaii, also a story how he once flooded his parents' car in a flash flood, how Kris and Reuben grew up watching horror films much (Reuben was provided a steady stream of horror films from his Nana without the knowledge of his parents), we even started to watch the movie "Howling 3" starring Barry Humphries, AKA Dame Edna, and got into the weeds about Reuben and Kris' love of Star Wars and Mike's ambivalence towards it. We mentioned a few friends of the show on this episode. We spoke about Marz-from-Glenroy who probably wouldn't mind the beers at Little Creatures, Jonah-from-Cleveland and his giant St. Bernard, Lucy, and Elan & Maya-from-Jersey City who, at the time of this episode, were gearing up for their wedding celebrations in which Reuben was soon to be on his way to attend. The beers had at Little Creatures were: - Little Creatures Dog Days Summer Ale - Little Creatures Pilsner - Little Creatures Elsie Steam Ale - Furphys Refreshing Ale - Little Creatures East Side Pale Ale - Little Creatures XPA - Little Creatures IPA - White Rabbit Dark Ale - Little Creatures Stout The beers we had during our viewing of "Cujo" and half of "Howling 3" were as dog-themed as we could get and were purchased from our friends at Penny Young in Moonee Ponds. - Southern Bay Session IPA - Moon Dog Vinnie IPA - Fox Hat Red Pelt India Red Ale - Six Strings Brewing Co / Redwood Distribution's Dub Dry Hopped Hazy IPA with Papaya - 3 Ravens Melon Juicy NEIPA - Moon Dog / Patient Wolf Two Moon Sloe Gin Fizz Cocktail Ale - La Sirene Paradox Farmhouse Ale - Dainton Red Velvet Chocolate & Cherry NEIPA - Wayward Brewing Co Coffee & Donuts Milk Stout

Can you feel it?! It's time to get into the holiday spirit. We're not talking Christmas, we're talking the holiday that truly has some gravitas, Halloween! To celebrate we got into the weeds with a couple of horror dogsploitation films in honor of our prospective guest of the show, Kris-from-Geelong and his new puppy. We start with the 1993 straight to video 15 millon dollar budget "classic," "Man's Best Friend." We are joined by Reuben's two kids, Bea and Ezra and once they bugger off to bed we get rather dark while discussing "Animal Farm" (not the book, mind you...), the discussion changes gears to our misadventures during Good Beer Week which included a trip the amazing Rainbow Hotel, our anthropomorphic animal equivalents, Reuben's adventures in adapting Asian cuisine to be Kosher, amazing BBQ from Red Gum BBQ, and Dinner by Heston. We give shout outs to friends of the show: Nigel-from-Sunshine (another frequenter of the Thirsty Cafe and Bar), Marz-from-Glenroy (give this man a VB and he's happy, give him a well crafted IPA and he grimace with every sip), Thong from Moonee Ponds (likes craft beer and is far funnier and witter than either of us, we should probably get him on the show), and we give a proper congratulations to Pemmy-and-Phil-from-Ascot-Vale on their wedding back in May. Beers were purchased from the Thirsty Cafe and Bar and are as listed below (we attempted to get more dog themed beer, but only wound up with one...) - Mornington Peninsula Brewery Commonfolk Brown Ale - Old Wives Ales Hair of the Dog XPA - Founders Brewing Trigo Hoppy Wheat Lager - Coconspirator Brewing Co / Market Juice Middleman Grapefruit IPA - Mornington Peninsula Brain Squeeze Hoppy Sour - Sailor's Grave Winter Farmhouse Ale
If you live in Jamaica, do you come out? If so, to what? To whom? How do you navigate that? Does coming out even matter? Cornel, Glenroy and Kareem take a deep dive into the notions of coming out, batty energy and queer Jamaican visibility on this episode of the Fish Tea Podcast.
Just like Drag Race, it's time to meet the queens. Learn who they are, where they come from and all the big firsts in their lives. Cornel, Glenroy and Kareem sit down for a good old kiki and a Jamaican-style labrish on the pilot episode of the Fish Tea Podcast.
Al continues his otherworldly trend this week with Space Rogue, while Joe cooks up some conversations (and potions) in Oblivion. Plus a massive, rather one-sided mountain of side questing this week.
We begin season 3, the only way we possibly could, politically. Most listeners will be aware that Australia is currently in the midst of an federal election. Here at binge thinking, we wanted to speak with youth representatives of each the parties to find out what they think the issues are, and why they feel they are best placed to look after your interests. Fundamentally, we wanted to know what makes a young person see the a bright future with a particular political party? So we approached the offices of the Young Liberals, Young Labor and Victorian Young Greens, along with some of their millennial candidates. And while the Liberal and Labor parties did not respond to our requests for an interview, one millennial Greens candidate did. Adam Pulford is a 29 year old social activist running as the Greens candidate for the electorate of Wills, which stretches from Melbourne's Inner north of Brunswick through to Coburg, Pascoe Vale, Fawkner and Glenroy. The seat is currently held by Labor's Peter Khalil by 4.9% and is considered in play for the Greens who won 31% of the primary vote in the last election. So how did Adam, a 29 year old (originally from the Northern Territory) who grew up socially conservative and first voted Liberal in 2007, end up becoming a Greens political candidate with an actual chance of winning? Adam and Caspar sat down to discuss this, along with his life working as a social activist, his work with Greens MP Adam Bandt, his views on leadership, how he came to terms with his homosexuality, and going public about his mental health. As always, this episode was produced and edited by the incredibly talented and hard working Nina Roxburgh and features music by Big Gigantic.
Khyle Marshall is one of the most vocal and well known gay rights and gay lifestyle activists from St Kitts - Nevis. His energetic personality and raunchy facebook Live blogs have captured an audience, some of whom are entertained by his brutal honesty when dealing with current island topics. In this episode we interview his day to day persona Glenroy in this interview where I ask: “How was it like growing up gay in the caribbean?”. This interview is guaranteed to challenge your thoughts as we explore his life as a human being first and his sexuality after.
Is Vegas all it's cracked up to be?
