Are your dogs up to date on vaccines? On this week's episode, we talk dosing your dog for vet appointments, because a high dog might just be a happy dog, Ali's latest health scare—with a happy ending—a kerfuffle in the Beachwood Canyon dog-osphere, and the story of one very lucky and deeply loved Doberman. Tune in for all that and more on this week's Dear Dog.
Jordan Sather and Nate Prince break down a packed week in health news. Marty Makary is out as FDA chief under circumstances that remain murky, with Dr. Malone having previously claimed Makary was blocking COVID vaccine death data from going public. Interim replacement Kyle Diamantis is a food lawyer who represented CBD companies and quit a Planned Parenthood case over moral objections. Kennedy moves fast, announcing the FDA will now continuously review food chemicals already on the market, starting with BHT and ADA. A CIA whistleblower from Tulsi Gabbard's ODNI task force testifies before Congress about the intelligence community's COVID cover up, and Rand Paul drops a bombshell: Fauci allegedly bribed a scientist with a $9 million grant to flip his position on lab leak origins. Dr. Oz reveals 800 fraudulent Medicare providers were quietly removed and none of them called to dispute it. And farmed fish? Sedated. Vaccinated. By conveyor belt.
In which contexts is nature-based therapy most effective? What does it have to do with attachment theory, stress reduction theory, and attention restoration theory? How can nature help both children and adults (therapists included) stay regulated? Nevin also discusses outdoor risky play, when social-emotional learning is developmentally appropriate, and the limits of some contemporary approaches to assessing and treating mental health challenges. Also, what's the deal with negative ionization and waterfalls? Guest: Nevin Harper Adapted from the Kids These Days website: Nevin Harper identifies first and foremost as a practitioner of nature-based therapy, wherein he conducts outdoor counselling sessions around his home of Vancouver Island, Canada. Grooming isn't always a simple spa day—especially for pets who are fearful, painful, aging, or medically complex. In this episode of PetAbility Podcast, Chris and Cathy sit down with experienced groomer and veterinary assistant, Sophie Wasniewski, to explore sedated grooming: what it is, why it's sometimes necessary, and how it can dramatically improve safety, comfort, and quality of life for both pets and their people.Sophie explains how sedated grooming differs from traditional grooming, which pets benefit most, and what indicators (chronic pain, mobility challenges, anxiety, or past trauma) might suggest that sedated grooming is the often the kindest option rather than a last resort. The conversation walks listeners through what a sedated grooming appointment looks like, who's involved on the veterinary team, and how sedation protocols are carefully chosen and monitored for safety.Key Takeaways:When and why sedated grooming is recommendedWhich pets benefit mostWhat happens during a sedated grooming appointmentSafety considerations and preparationHow sedated grooming can reduce fear, pain, and injuryWhether you're a pet parent struggling with stressful grooming appointments or a veterinary professional supporting complex patients, this episode offers clarity, reassurance, and expert insight. You can find Sophie at Sleepy Dog Veterinary in Arlington, MA. SEASON 4 EPISODE 34: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: So, will he? I mean you don't think he's serious about WANTING them released, do you? He's just trying to avoid a 100-vote defeat. Note he hasn't asked the Senate to pass a bill. And he's already throwing out "what can be legally released" caveats - like he cares. And Trump is still threatening to prosecute President Clinton. He's thrown Marjorie Taylor Greene under the bus. He's destroyed the House and the DOJ. He's invoking The Streisand Effect and insisted we all stop talking about it. His Government Shutdown ran out of gas - what does he do now? He's terrified of what's in there, to the point where Senator Chris Murphy said it's enough to potentially end his presidency. I mean Alexander Haig and others told Nixon to burn the Watergate tapes, in public, with the media present and Haig says Nixon asked him to do it but Haig demurred and later says it was the biggest mistake ever. So? Will Trump destroy the Epstein Files? Burn them, bury them, dump them, or order Kash Patel or Pam Bondi or just Walt Nauta to do it? And can Democrats make Epstein and what is at minimum Trump's protection of pedophiles the centerpiece of the midterms? To explain to voters that burying the files is why Trump is gerrymandering and trying to fix or cancel those midterms? If he doesn't destroy them, does he destroy the process by which they could get out? Does he destroy what's left of democracy? The full monty of authoritarianism? And as an aside, when he was even willing to change the topic from Epstein to his MRI last month, did anybody else note that he made a remark as crazy as anything ever said by - anybody? That he had no idea what part of his body they MRI'd but he had the greatest MRI ever? What if he's not crazy, lying, or unable to understand what an MRI is? What if that's true? Was he unconscious? Sedated? Did they just surprise him? What are the implications for the theories that he's being treated for some form of dementia? Or: Maybe they MRI’d Trump looking to see if he stuffed the Epstein files up his...assisted living facility. PLUS: The self-beclowning of Stephen A. Smith continues. He can't figure out why Gavin Newsom and AOC and other Democrats won't come on his new political podcast: "I'm A Right Wing Dupe." And Olivia Nuzzi's new book is about to arrive and I have only one detail to address, but I have two big fears. What if her publicity tours include interviews with Ingraham on Fox and Tur on MSNOW? Lol B-Block (34:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: JD Vance wants us to believe all those undocumented immigrants are stealing SNAP benefits, eating pets and driving up home prices by snapping up $500,000 houses. It seems like Eric Trump just said his wife charges him a fee to have a glass of wine with her. And Megyn Kelly explains Jeffrey Epstein wasn't technically a pedophile and the age of the victim makes a difference, after a career filled with her screaming at anybody else who suggested exactly the same thing. C-Block (45:00) IN MEMORY OF MISHU: It's the fourth anniversary of the month my late hospice puppy with the incurable, untreatable heart condition, taught me one of the meanings of life. I like to remember him; I hope you'll remember him with me.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
These 7 dangerous nighttime habits can ruin your sleep and wreak havoc on your health. Stop making these nighttime routine mistakes! Get better sleep tonight by quitting these unhealthy night habits immediately. 0:00 Introduction: Avoid these habits that hurt sleep2:22 Avoiding screens for better sleep 4:28 Alcohol before sleep 8:05 Avoid these before bed10:05 More sleep equals better sleep1. Carbs and sugar before bedGrowth hormone rises at night, but is blunted by a rise in blood sugar. This hormone helps you burn fat, repair tissues, and build muscle mass. A massive blood sugar spike before bed can interfere with your sleep and cause grogginess, fatigue, cravings, and irritability the next day.2. Screens and lights before bedAvoid lights and screens, especially those emitting blue light, for at least 2 hours before bed. Melatonin is suppressed by light. Not only does this powerful antioxidant help you sleep, but it's more important than glutathione for detoxification and DNA repair. Blue light also suppresses deep delta wave sleep and REM sleep. 3. Using alcohol to fall asleep Alcohol tricks your body into falling asleep, but you're not really sleeping: your body is working to detoxify alcohol. Alcohol increases cortisol and adrenaline, and depletes electrolytes. It also depletes vitamin B1, which can cause anxiety and nervous tension the next day. Instead of alcohol, try magnesium glycinate in warm water or kombucha tea.4. Late-night junk food Junk foods typically contain seed oils, which are inflammatory and hard on the gallbladder. If you're craving salty food before bed, try putting a small amount of sea salt in your mouth or adding more salt to your dinner.5. Antihistamines or sleeping pills before bed Sedated, artificial sleep does not leave you feeling rejuvenated and rested in the morning. People often feel less focused with decreased concentration and memory. You may eventually need more of the drug to create the same effect.6. Sleeping next to your cell phoneYour cell phone and charging cable both emit electromagnetic fields (EMFs), which can negatively impact your brain and sleep cycles. EMFs also interfere with melatonin. Keep your cell phone on airplane mode or away from your body when you're sleeping. 7. Sleep deprivationSleep deprivation can make sleep more difficult in itself. You need at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Try to get to sleep at 10:00 p.m. each night, or 11:00 p.m. at the latest. Is capitalism to blame for the mental health crisis? Should we separate the art from the artist? Rebecca and Hattie have been reading non-fiction. And they are sharing two of the books with each other. Naomi Klein's Doppelganger won the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction in 2024 and has had a strong impact since it hit the bookshelves. The pressure for us to 'perform' online is overwhelming, and Becca brings a musician's perspective to Klein's reflections. Then to what appeared to be anti-psychiatry in James Davies's book Sedated. He blames much of our negative mental health experiences on toxic work culture and the flawed nature of CBT. Medication may not have as much of an impact long term as we might like. How much anesthesia is too much? If you're looking forward to medical procedures because you like the feeling of all the stuff they're putting into you, that's probably too much. As Bobby and Jordan discuss current events and the prospects for global war in this episode, they also wonder what's going on with the normies. Do they just want to be sedated?
Not to glorify the use of narcotics, or anything, but this is the most joyous celebration of bored nihilism I've ever heard. Joey Ramone said he wrote the song when he was stranded in London during Christmastime, with nothing to do and nowhere to go. And, here, the boys are symbolically kicking down the doors of their hotel room and running amok for our pleasure. These were my contemporaries: they were playing CBGB's on the Bowery, while I was plying my singer-songwriter hack across town in the West Village. Geographically close, but two different worlds, and I, theatrically trained emoter that I was, missed the whole punk revolution that was brewing right under my nose. Talk about not seeing the forest for the tree! We might have been close in age, and just like me they had been born and bred across the east river - but they were the real deal: dedicated to the rock and roll lifestyle, while I was just visiting. They're all dead now - but, man, did they rage against the dying of the light. They immolated themselves, these four similarly named Icaruses, in pursuit of rock immortality. And, they achieved it. And, you can feel that undeniable energy in this romp - their call to arms against banality.

The cultural assumption that everyone would rather be sedated is based on the myth that sedation is "sleep". The Story Of How Argentinian Staff Sedated A Brazilian Player In The 1990 FIFA World Cup Brazil vs Argentina is an age-old rivalry that has almost never failed to entertain. There may be favorites going into different games depending on form at the time, but that fixture has proven to really be no respecter of favorites. The Superclasico de las Americas, as it is often called, always lives up to expectation whenever and wherever it is played. And in the 1990 World Cup, boy did it live up to expectation! The eventual score may have been just 1-nil, but that game was one of the most entertaining games in that entire World Cup tournament. But more than entertaining, it was controversial. Oh, very controversial.
