After reading “The Go-Giver” for the second time, and then reading “Go-Givers Sell More”, I just had to have the author, Bob Burg, on the podcast. There are so many great lessons and nuggets that we can all apply to our businesses and lives in these books. I also just started reading “The Go-Giver Influencer”, and I've already been making notes. These books are so easy to read, using parables (short stories) which make it easy to relate to the characters.I enjoyed our conversation and I think you're going to love hearing from Bob how so many principles in The Go-Giver series apply to your wedding and event business and your life.About Bob BurgFor over 30 years Bob Burg has been successfully showing entrepreneurs, leaders, and sales professionals how to communicate their value and accelerate their business growth. Although for years he was best known for his sales classic, Endless Referrals, it's his business parable, The Go-Giver, coauthored with John David Mann that has created a worldwide movement. While part of a four-book series, The Go-Giver itself has sold more than one million copies and been translated into 30 languages. It was rated #10 on Inc. Magazine's list of The Most Motivational Books Ever Written, and was on HubSpot's 20 Most Highly Rated Sales Books of All Time.Bob is founder of The Go-Giver Success Alliance, an online Mentorship Community for successful entrepreneurs, leaders, and sales professionals, and he publishes the very popular Daily Impact email. He is an advocate, supporter, and defender of the Free Enterprise system, believing that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve. He is also an unapologetic animal fanatic and served on the Board of Directors of Furry Friends Adoption & Clinic in his town of Jupiter, Florida.https://www.facebook.com/burgbob https://www.instagram.com/realbobburg/https://www.linkedin.com/in/bobburg/https://www.youtube.com/user/burgcommunications/ www.Burg.comwww.GoGiverSuccessAlliance.comIf you have any questions about anything in this, or any of my podcasts, or have a suggestion for a topic or guest, please reach out directly to me at Alan@WeddingBusinessSolutions.com or visit my website Podcast.AlanBerg.comPlease be sure to subscribe to this podcast and leave a review (thanks, it really does make a difference). You never know where your passion will take you! On this episode of She Turned Entrepreneur we meet an artist whose designs are wildly popular among those in the dance world, even though she herself is not. Tasha Sattler has developed a unique niche for jewelry designs that are expressions of beauty as well as calling cards of a sort. Her clients are collaborators and her collaborations are providing points of entry into ever larger international markets. In addition to dazzling dancers with her Rhythm Jewellery designs, Tasha also creates bespoke marketing and commemorative objects for universities, car dealerships and other enterprises. We learn about the path she took to conjuring a creative, thriving business from an idea that started germinating as far back as her after-school job. Tasha provides practical tips for solopreneurs trying to find their footing as well as busy moms dedicated to giving their best on the job and at home. The episode wraps up with a great reading recommendation and compelling summary of a philosophy that Tasha has embraced from Day 1: Approach every relationship – whether business or personal – with the intention of giving value. “It's not what you're going to get out of it,” says Tasha. “Provide value to relationships and by providing value eventually your relationships and business will start to thrive!” Click here to listen to, rate and review this or previous She Turned Entrepreneur episodes. Here are key takeaways from the conversation:· You don't have to be a specialist to create a niche business tailored to a specialty.· When establishing a business, look for ways in which to elicit direct feedback from your target market in developing your product or service.· Finding and sticking with a niche is a tried-and-true business strategy.· Looking to differentiate? Consider a collaboration, which is both fun and a great promotional tool.· It's contagious: When you undervalue your work, it undervalues the work of others in your niche as well. So don't undersell yourself!· It's better to set your price high and adjust downward than to start out too low.· Giving quality and value to customers results in thousand-fold returns. Here's a quick look into the episode:· How a part-time afterschool job combined with Tasha's artistic bent inspired a creative journey that took her from living in Asia to goldsmithing school to on-the-job training with custom design, repair and manufacturing and ultimately to her solopreneur venture, Rhythm Jewellery.· Tasha explains how she came to focus on dancers as her target market.· Other markets to which Tasha offers bespoke creations: o Car dealershipso Universities· Defining her niche has given Tasha a leg up in terms of marketing and branding identification.· Tasha's designs first appeared in Canada but have taken off in markets as far away as Australia and among companies working with huge names in the dance world.· Tips for turning a passion into a profitable business:o Don't be too hard on yourself! o Don't compare yourself to others and their progress.o Don't undervalue your work! o Not everyone is going to like what you produce or your price point. It's okay!· How Tasha creates a work-life balance:o She makes a concerted effort to compartmentalize.o When it's family time, it's family time. Ditto work.o Having a plan and sticking with it helps keep guilt in check.o When all else fails, a glass of wine also helps!· Recommended Reading:o "Go-Givers Sell More," by Bob Burg and John David Mann. Shares a simple business philosophy and orientation that has worked beautifully for Tasha. About Tasha:Tasha is a goldsmith by trade and she is finally branching out into her own line of jewelry. Everything she makes is made of high quality gold, copper and sterling silver – nothing is plated. Every piece is one of a kind and created by hand. Most of the jewelry you'll see in Tasha's Collection is different from what she does for jewelry designers and professional jewelers – in that it is a lot funkier with better quality but without the high end price tag.

Summary: Few years back, I interviewed Bob Burg, co-author of The Go-Giver and Go-Givers Sell More on the concept of go-giver vs. go-getter. The general approach toward achieving any goal is to be a go-getter and do all it takes to accomplish the goal. However, if you start by giving what you have and adding more value, you build trust and therefore can get what you want more easily. Listen to this episode so you discover how you can give more to get more not only at work but also in your personal life. In this episode, Bob answers the following questions: - What is The Go-Giver about? - What is the difference between go-givers and go-getters? - Why is it important to become a go-giver? - What are the 5 laws of go-givers? - Why would becoming a go-giver lead to better results? - And much more Action List - Subscribe to the Dream Achievers Podcast on iTunes - Check out Bob Burg's website at www.Burg.com and learn more about his books and services. - Share your thoughts and questions using the comment box below - Order your copy of Get What You Want book -Take it to the next level by registering for the Extraordinary Achievement Training Program (aka Dream On and Get What You Want Training Program). - Share this episode with your connections using the social media icons on this page - Join our Facebook Community of Dream Achievers

After The Go-Giver’s publication back in 2008, Bob and John went on to apply the Go-Giver idea — that is, the more you give, the more you have — to sales (Go-Givers Sell More), leadership (The Go-Giver Leader), and education (A Teacher’s Guide to The Go-Giver). The natural question was, “What’s next?” In these highly polarized times, they thought it might be helpful to explore a Go-Giver approach to influence and the role it plays in our capacity for empathy, civil discourse, and the ability to see another’s perspective. At its heart, The Go-Giver Influencer is a story about what it takes to bridge differences, to settle disputes and defang conflicts, to find common ground where there appear to be only irreconcilably polarized positions. (And, yes, even to negotiate business dealings.) It is also about what it takes to be someone whom others trust and look to for sound guidance, clear judgment, and evenhanded wisdom in times of challenge. We discuss: What is an “influencer”? And what is a go-giver influencer? What exactly is influence? Is it something that just comes to some people naturally, like charisma, or can anyone develop it? And if so, how? Bob Burg, a sought-after speaker at company leadership and sales conferences, and author of numerous bestselling books, including The Go-Giver, which has sold more than half a million copies, talks about his core philosophy to build long-lasting business relationships. Bob Burg’s Journey Bob started his career as a broadcaster in radio and television, but later made his way into sales. He had a rough start in the sales arena, especially because the training he was given was “negligible at best.” That's why he decided to become a student of sales, and learned the importance of focusing on the other person first. Money became an echo of value rather than a primary goal. When Bob began his speaking career, he found support in the National Speakers Association. There, he met people like Brian Tracy, who became a source of support and inspiration. Bob's Philosophy to Build Long-Lasting Business Connections: Always give value first. Great salesmanship or influencing is never about the salesperson or the influencer. It’s about the people you try to serve. Value is in the eyes of the beholder. The key is not what we think is valuable, or what we think they should think is of value. Understanding the other person is a must. Money simply is an echo of value. You will be able to get ahead when you shift from an “I” focus to an “other” focus. Stay in touch with your business relationships. A handwritten note or a quick check in on social media is all it takes. Do so because you're genuinely interested in them. Worst influencer marketing moment “In terms of writing, I’ve been very fortunate,” Bob says. However, there have been instances when a business venture turned out to be a bad idea. To avoid this kind of situation, Bob suggests doing extensive research before committing to any business partnership. Even then, there are no guarantees. You'll up your chances to succeed if there's alignment between your values and those of your partners. One thing you’re most excited about The 10th anniversary of The Go-Giver. What is the Go-Giver philosophy and how can you use it to achieve greater business success? In this week's episode, Bob Burg addresses these questions and so much more. He is the co-author of The Go-Giver, a Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek Bestseller that has sold over 650,000 copies. Since its release it has consistently stayed in the top 25 on 800ceoread's Business Book Bestsellers List. It has been translated into 21 languages, was rated #10 on Inc. Magazine's list of the Most Motivational Books Ever Written, and was on HubSpot's 20 Most Highly Rated Sales Books of All Time. In our enriching conversation with Bob Burg, he defines his Go-Giver philosophy, which has captured the business world's attention. We explore the difference between creating value and giving stuff away for less – or for free – and how giving is not only a nice way to do business, it is also the most financially profitable. Bob Burg goes on to define the 5 elements of value that anyone can apply and how to create sales transactions that leave both parties far better off than they were before. We also explore the Law of Receptivity, which states that giving and receiving are not opposite concepts, rather, they are two sides of the same coin. We wind up our conversation with Bob revealing a few specific techniques that he uses to make a lasting impression on decision makers and gain more business. Packed full of valuable insights from a master salesman, author, speaker, and business leader, this episode is a must-hear for every person seeking to bring greater value to the world. Key Takeaways 1) Constantly and consistently providing value to others is not only a nice way to do business it is also the most financially profitable. 2) Money is simply an echo of value. 3) Unless you're Wal-Mart, trying to make low prices your unique selling proposition is not unique, it's not selling, and it's not a great proposition. If they buy from you on low price, they'll leave you for the next person who lowers theirs. You're also probably not going to leave yourself enough margin to conduct your business profitably, productively, and you're not going to have as much fun. You'll also have to have twice as many customers. 4) Giving away stuff for free is not being a Go-Giver, and it's not not being a Go-Giver. It's simply a strategy. 5) When you sell on price, you're a commodity. When you sell on value, you're a resource. 6) There are 5 elements of value – as you do these 5 things, you take price out of the conversation. 7) The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving. Giving and receiving are not opposite concepts rather, they are two sides of the same coin. FOCUS on the giving, and ALLOW yourself to receive. Episode 15 – Fresh Tracker Bob Burg, co-author of the international bestseller, The Go-Giver, talks about shifting your focus from “getting to giving”. He tells us the results are far from just nice…it’s also very financially profitable! When you can take your focus off yourself and shift it onto how you can be an asset of value to other people, you’ll plant seeds of goodwill — of great will — that will come back to you many, many times over. And, not because of some magical, mystical type of thinking, but because it makes absolutely practical sense. Are you wondering if this isn’t more feel-goody, new-agey stuff that doesn’t work in the real-world?” Or, even, “Sure, maybe when the economy is good, but now we have to fight for everything we get.” In other words, isn’t what he’s saying simply naive? Actually, not only is it not naive, it’s quite practical. And, again…for very concrete reasons that you’ll learn, benefit from, and most likely utilize for the rest of your life. Bob has built his business, and shows others how to build theirs, based on one overriding, foundational principle: “All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like and trust.” Tune into this week’s episode and enjoy this entertaining and humorous, but very to-the-point guest who will add exceptional value to your business; and to your life. And, always remember, “You cannot control ‘The’ Economy, but you can absolutely control ‘Your’ economy.
