If you're a business professional who believes in the notion that "givers gain," you're probably familiar with Bob Burg. Bob, an entrepreneur and leadership trainer, is known for his "Endless Referrals" sales training classes. He also co-authored the book The Go-Giver with John David Mann. The Go-Giver has sold 1 million copies and has been translated into 30 languages. It is listed by Inc. Magazine as No. 10 of the most motivational books ever written. Motivate is what Bob does. He teaches sales professionals and leaders how to communicate their value to accelerate their business growth. He is an "unapologetic" believer in the free market system and says the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people one serves. "The people who are most successful in sales, most sustainably successfully, (are) always the ones who (are) more focused on giving value to others," Bob told me. In this episode of Chiseled, Bob shares the principles behind The Go-Giver, which draws on storytelling and parables to teach the five laws of stratospheric success. These are defined as the laws of value, compensation, influence, authenticity, and receptivity. I'm not going to give the whole podcast away and I couldn't possibly tell you all the valuable nuggets in the book, so you'll just have to listen to Bob's summary. Bob is full of wisdom, which he relays so clearly that you may instantly want to go out and buy his books. It was my honor to interview Bob in one of my shortest but most jam-packed podcasts yet. If you'd like to reach Bob and get a copy of his Daily Impact email, you can sign up at burg.com. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this week's episode of Chiseled.

This week's guest is Bob Burg, author and speaker. You may know him from the book series he co-wrote with John David Mann, The Go-Giver.The Go-Giver is a business parable that illustrates shifting your focus from getting to giving. In it, there are five laws of stratospheric success that are presented through characters. The laws are value, compensation, influence, authenticity and receptivity. In this brief episode, we chat about the book and all five values including which value is hardest for people to fulfil. The chat provided great insight for those who have read The Go-Giver and those who haven't yet. Bob also shares what took him from his work in sales to becoming an author. His first book was Endless Referrals. When he isn't speaking and writing, Bob fosters animals, working to bring about awareness on the treatment of animals and works with Furry Friends.Note from Rabiah (Host): When Bob agreed to sit down and chat with me, I was truly chuffed! The Go-Giver is a book I read after it was recommended to me a few times, once by someone who said I seemed to be living the values. That was a high compliment. In this chat, Bob redefined charitable giving for me and changed how I'll talk about giving in the future. The perspective we came to on receptivity was enlightening as well. The Go-Giver Way Give exceptional value. Enjoy extraordinary results. It is generally agreed upon that entrepreneurship is the engine that drives an economy upwards and is primarily responsible for its growth. Entrepreneurs create jobs, bring better and more affordable products and services to the marketplace, resulting in greater societal health, overall wealth, and a vastly improved standard of living. And, while we treasure the entrepreneur, one needs not start their own business in order to be one. One can be entrepreneurial within a company setting (often called “intrapreneurs”) and can lead from anywhere they happen to be positioned. Bob Burg, coauthor of the international bestseller, The Go-Giver and a much sought-after speaker at sales and leadership conferences, is committed to inspiring the entrepreneurial spirit in us all. Well, that was a much-needed break that I needed from the podcast…how about you? This year has been intense to say the least. And it’s still going. I ended Season 10 on what I thought was a hopeful note. Amongst all the chaos we’re experiencing, I do believe there is also a lot of light. With that, I’ve been recording guests for Season 11 all summer to make this my best season yet. Full of inspiring interviews, diverse voices, and actionable takeaways we can all use to turn these uncertain times into that wake-call many of us need to do more and live more intentional and positive lives. That’s why I wanted to kick off this season with a very inspiring and positive guest, Bob Burg, author of The Go-Giver. As I shared in this episode, I’d previously heard of his book, but it wasn’t until I did a call-out on Twitter about what everyone’s favourite personal finance books were that I was introduced to Bob. Although it’s not a personal finance book in the traditional sense, it is now one of my go-to recommendations for anyone who is struggling in the areas of growing in their career and planning out a path for personal or professional success. No joke, I read this book in maybe two sittings. Then I got my husband to read it right after. I loved it. I really did. It hit home on so many fronts, it almost felt like I was meant to read it at that specific point in time. We talk about a few different sections of the book in this episode, so hopefully, you’ll absorb some of the key takeaways I got from reading it, but of course, I highly recommend grabbing a copy too! If you go back to CarrotCast Episode 66, it was called , I talk about a book that I read that really changed my life during the early years, it's called . And The Go-Giver was a parable. It's a book that really got my mind wrapped around how to actually go out there and live life the opposite way that most people do. And if you guys have not got the book The Go-Giver, go get it. Go to , and go get it. Or, you can wait for this call and actually listen to the author of , Bob Burg. I had such an amazing chance to interview him, one of my favorite books of all time, it's one of the simplest books ever but I've given away hundreds of copies of this book over the years to people because it's such a simple concept but it's so life-changing when you actually adopt it in your day-to-day. We've adopted it fully here at Carrot as a business. We've always lead with giving, we've always lead with value. We've always really lead with, how do we make sure our clients and our market and your audience are the ones winning? And when that happens, we'll build trust, we'll build so much value that will, in the end, win, also. So I'm really excited for you guys to listen to this episode of the  with Go-Giver author Bob Burg. He's going to be talking about their latest book, which is the Go-Giver Influencer. It's another parable, but talks about how in this cluttered market, how in this cluttered world, with all of these messages, with all of these opinions, with all of these people who disagree on this and disagree on that, how can you be an influencer in a good way? He also gives away so many other amazing tips in this call.

Bob Burg shares information on topics vital to the success of today’s businessperson. He speaks for corporations and associations internationally, including fortune 500 companies, franchises, and numerous direct sales organizations. Bob regularly addresses audiences ranging in size from 50 to 16,000 — sharing the platform with notables including today’s top thought leaders, broadcast personalities, Olympic athletes and political leaders including a former United States President. Although for years he was best known for his book, Endless Referrals, over the past few years it’s his business parable, The Go-Giver (coauthored with John David Mann) that has captured the imagination of his readers. The Go-Giver, a The Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek Bestseller, has sold over 500,000 copies. Since its release it has consistently stayed in the top 25 on 800 ceoread’s Business Book Bestsellers List. It has been translated into 21 languages and is Bob’s fourth book to sell over 250,000 copies. Bob is an advocate, supporter and defender of the Free Enterprise system, believing that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve. Show Notes  The Go-Giver: a business parable about shifting your focus to giving. Mindset of giving will be profitable. We must focus on bringing on bringing value to others. The Law of Value: “your true worth is how much you give in value than you take in payment” Difference between price (a number) and value (desirability). You can control the journey, or the actions you take, to get to the goal. The Law of Influence: “determined by how abundantly you put other people’s interests first.” Influence= The ability to move a person to a desired action. “Pull” as opposed to “push” Dale Carnegie said, “Ultimately, people do things for their reasons, not our reasons.” Trust is assured reliance on the character of someone. Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek: “Trust is a biological reaction to the belief that someone has our well-being at heart.” Who we are is more important than what we do or say. Character is “the sum total of all one’s qualities.” “The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself” Some people do not have the self-confidence to be authentic. Intrinsic value and Market value (what allows you to bring value to the world) Sometimes we are unaware of our value to others. Empathy- experiencing another person’s feelings, or trying to understand their feelings. “Let them see you sweat when it’s appropriate.” Learning from failures: getting left behind in technology for not wanting to change. “Personal development political correctness” Success= Bob’s parents. People who appreciate what is good in their life. Being loved by people. The best “people skill” is having interest in the other person. Don’t confuse authenticity with not improving yourself. Books: Harry Brown’s The Secret of Selling Anything Simon Sinek Leaders Eat Last Robert Cialdini’s Pre-Suasion and Influence: Science and Practice Best advice: “When the shooter misses the target, it ain’t the target’s fault. If you wanna make a lot of money in sales, make your target serving others...The money is the reward for hitting the target.” Contact: TheGoGiver.com Go-Giver Sales Academy Like what you hear? Episode Summary Bob Burg is best known for his book Endless Referrals as well as The Go-Giver, co-authored with John David Mann. Bob makes an excellent point that if you give value to the people you serve it will not only make you a happier person, but it will also increase your financial success. He breaks down what the main difference is between price and value and why you always want to give more value than the price. Listen in for more great tidbits from Bob. What Was Covered 02:30 - How did Bob come up with the title for the book? 02:55 - A title to a book is like a headline to a sales letter. 03:45 - Giving is not only a great way to live a life, but it's also a financially profitable one. 04:45 - What's the difference between price and value? 06:45 - Value is conceptual. Give more in value than you receive in payment. 07:10 - Focus on providing your clients with a valuable experience. 08:10 - You need to become irresistible to investors and the best way to do that is by showing value. 08:20 - What was the most helpful advice Bob received? 10:25 - How important is empathy? 12:10 - What should the first question always be? 14:10 - Nobody gets funded by doing this alone. How do you find the right advisers/mentors? 17:35 - The go-giver philosophy makes sense in a very practical way. Bob explains further. 20:05 - The worst thing we can do is expect other people to see happiness the way we see happiness. 20:25 - Remember, we all have limits. 21:15 - As a go-giver, it's your job to find out what makes others happy and give it to them. 23:15 - How do people create influence? 25:55 - Last piece of advice: tap into your core and don't be someone you're not. 27:35 - We got a lot of negative messages from the world saying people are mean and nasty, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Tweetables Pass the litmus test with investors, with a hook. Inspiration and sweat equity are not enough to get funded. Do people have app fatigue? Personalization in robotics is coming. Early in his sales career, a mentor told him, “Don't have ‘making money’ as your goal.
