Bad boy Thanos gets an infinity stone, the Power Stone. His play is to get all six Infinity Stones and wipe out half of all life in the universe.  His first stop is the ship carrying the surviving people of Asgard. Thanos easily overwhelms the remaining Asgardians, beats up Hulk, and steals the Space Stone from Loki's Tesseract. He then kills Loki. Thanos then destroys the ship and continues his hunt. Edris Elba helps make sure that Hulk returns to earth, where he crashes through the New York Sanctum. Back as Bruce, He warns Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong that Thanos is coming.  Tony Stark joins the conversation. Before he can call Steve Rogers to get the band back together, they attack the city to claim the Time Stone from Strange. Spider-Man is pulled into the chaos, and after they captures Strange aboard his spaceship, Stark and Peter Parker secretly hitch a ride into space to rescue him while Wong remains behind to defend the Sanctum. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy answer a distress signal and save Thor floating in space. They agree they need to work together to stop Thanos. But they're too late. Thanos already possesses the Reality Stone and uses its power to manipulate everything around them. He captures Gamora after learning she knows the location of the Soul Stone. Desperate to save her adopted sister Nebula from torture, Gamora tells him where the stone is .  When they get there, the keeper of the Soul Stone, one Red Skull, reveals the price required to obtain it: the sacrifice of someone truly loved. In one of the film's most tragic moments, Thanos throws Gamora to her death, earning the Soul Stone. Vision and Wanda are ambushed in Scotland by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive, who attempt to rip the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead. Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon arrive just in time to save them, bringing the wounded Vision back to the Avengers Compound. Vision urges Wanda to destroy the Mind Stone and kill him if necessary to stop Thanos, but she cannot bring herself to do it. Instead, the team heads to Wakanda, believing Shuri may be able to safely remove the stone without sacrificing Vision's life. Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange end up on Titan and come face to face with Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis and they realize they're in the same team.  Using the Time Stone, Strange studies millions of possible futures and discovers only one path where they succeed. Together they execute an elaborate plan to restrain Thanos and remove the Infinity Gauntlet. For a moment, it almost works—until Nebula reveals that Gamora is dead. Overcome with grief and rage, Star-Lord attacks Thanos, ruining the team's hold on him. Thanos breaks free, defeats everyone, and nearly kills Iron Man. To save Tony's life, Doctor Strange willingly surrenders the Time Stone, despite knowing how dangerous it is. In Wakanda, the Avengers prepare for an all-out invasion from Thanos's army. Bruce Banner, unable to transform into Hulk, enters battle wearing the Hulkbuster armor. The tide finally turns when Thor arrives in spectacular fashion alongside Rocket and Groot, tearing through Thanos's army with his fresh new hammer/ax combo, Stormbreaker. Despite their efforts, Thanos himself eventually reaches Vision. Wanda heartbreakingly destroys the Mind Stone—and Vision with it—just before Thanos can claim it. But using the Time Stone, Thanos reverses time, restores Vision briefly to life, and violently tears the stone from his forehead, killing him again. With all six Infinity Stones finally united, the Infinity Gauntlet is complete. Thor attacks and buries Stormbreaker deep into Thanos's chest, but Thanos coldly tells him he “should have gone for the head.” He snaps his fingers and vanishes. Across the universe, half of all life immediately turns to dust. Bucky Barnes, Black Panther, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis all fade away. On Earth, Nick Fury manages to send a desperate signal from a mysterious pager moments before he too disappears. The survivors are left shattered and defeated. Tony Stark and Nebula are stranded on Titan. The remaining Avengers stand in stunned silence in Wakanda. The man who helps finance Europe's defence: Robert de Groot, vice president of the European Investment Bank There is a particular kind of power that comes with someone who decides, quietly, which ideas get funded and which don't. Robert de Groot, and his team, holds that power over an extraordinary range of things: military bridges in Poland, rocket launchers in Spain, satellite-to-smartphone startups in Luxembourg, drone intelligence software in Estonia. As Vice President of the world's largest multilateral lender, the EIB sitting on the Kirchberg plateau, his brief covers security, defence, space, and innovation. It is, as he puts it with characteristic understatement, "quite a new direction" for a bank that, not long ago, wouldn't touch defence at all. That has changed. Dramatically. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EIB has rewritten its mandate, opening five distinct financing pillars across the defence and security ecosystem, from large-scale infrastructure to venture equity for startups building things that didn't exist five years ago. De Groot has spent the last two years touring every European capital, sitting down with defence, finance, and interior ministers, and asking “What does Europe actually need, and can we finance it?” "The urgency I hear in private is far greater than what you see in public." What he found on the road was a continent with a perception gap. The Baltic states are operating in a different psychological reality from much of western Europe. For Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, the threat from the east is not geopolitics but geography. However, de Groot is cautiously optimistic. Germany has made a near-complete reversal on defence spending in three years. The Nordics have joined NATO. Ministers of Interior are now showing up to defence finance meetings, because the boundary between military security and civil security has dissolved. Cyber attacks, compromised energy grids, sabotaged undersea cables are happening now. The physical problems, meanwhile, are startlingly concrete. Bridges that cannot carry battle tanks. Ports unable to defend against unmanned underwater vehicles. Roads along NATO transit routes from Antwerp through Germany deep into Poland that haven't been maintained to handle today's military hardware. "It sounds absurd," de Groot says, "until you realise it's a multi-billion euro problem." The financing exists. The fixes are underway. But getting three countries to agree on a shared corridor before one of them goes its own way remains the harder challenge. For innovators and entrepreneurs building the dual-use technologies that now sit at the heart of European defence strategy, de Groot offers a map through the financing ecosystem. Early stage? Venture capital funds backed by the European Investment Fund. Series A and B? Venture debt, a product barely known in Europe five years ago, now scaling fast, with Luxembourg companies OQ Technology and Artec 3D among its beneficiaries. Series C and beyond? The European Tech Champions Initiative, designed explicitly to stop European unicorns from decamping to California. And for defence tech specifically, a new Defence Equity Facility of up to one billion euros: real, patient, European capital, with no American relocation clause attached. "The companies I meet across Europe mostly want to stay. We need to make sure the financing is there when they do." On the day of interview, a loan was signed for the Luxembourg Fire Brigade's logistics infrastructure. Security exists at multiple scales simultaneously, from orbital launch capability to the speed at which a fire engine reaches a crisis. Both matter and both require investment. Both represent the same underlying bet: that Europe, if it chooses to move with enough conviction, is more than capable of defending and financing its own future. De Groot, for his part, seems to believe it. The question, as ever, is whether the institutions can move as fast as the moment requires. Bibi traces her journey from the UK's Behavioural Insights Team — where she applied frameworks like EAST (Easy, Attractive, Social, Timely) to public policy — to becoming Eedi's first behavioural scientist after a stint completing a PhD at UCL and having twins. The conversation builds methodically from the fundamentals of randomised control trials (and why they're so notoriously difficult to run well in schools) through the headline results of Eedi's two-year, 20-school RCT showing that students using the platform gained the equivalent of two to four extra months of progress, before diving into the much-publicised Google DeepMind collaboration. That study, run with LearnLM and a human-in-the-loop safety net, found that an AI tutor matched a human tutor on immediate question success and actually outperformed humans on short-term transfer questions — likely because the AI was relentlessly Socratic where time-pressured human tutors tended to short-circuit students' metacognition. Bibi closes by previewing Eedi's much larger four-arm follow-up trial (running until July 2026) testing whether deep student context beats strong pedagogy alone, plus exciting new pilots bringing DQR and WhatsApp-delivered AI tutoring to learners in Guyana, India, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Crypto expertise is daarmee een groeiend onderdeel van het werk geworden, maar de kennis in huis opbouwen bleek een uitdaging: het vakgebied beweegt snel en de juiste mensen zijn moeilijk te vinden. Een kantelpunt in de opsporing was het klappen van de versleutelde communicatiediensten EncroChat en Sky ECC. Criminelen dachten via die netwerken onzichtbaar te zijn, maar toen die werden gekraakt, werd het voor de politie ineens concreet zichtbaar hoe groot de rol van crypto in de onderwereld eigenlijk was. Bij huiszoekingen stuit het team tegenwoordig regelmatig op hardware wallets, soms zelfs verstopt in poefjes. De meest voorkomende cases zijn grootschalige drugshandel en underground banking, ofwel ondergronds bankieren via criminele netwerken. Daarin liep Bitcoin voorop, maar inmiddels winnen stablecoins het: snel, goedkoop en makkelijk uit te geven. Toch zijn ook stablecoins niet ongrijpbaar. De politie heeft mogelijkheden om de munten op te sporen en te bevriezen. Mixers zijn een apart hoofdstuk. Nederland heeft opvallend vaak te maken met deze diensten, die cryptotransacties vermengen om de herkomst te verhullen. Ondertussen blijven criminelen ook slimmer worden: wie vandaag gepakt wordt via een stablecoin, zit morgen misschien al op DeFi. Groot verschil is er volgens Kemper ook tussen klassieke criminelen en cybercriminelen, die een eigen wereld vormen. De politie werkt nauw samen met de FIOD, en in dat verband komt ook het Financial Advanced Cyber Team ter sprake. Internationaal is de samenwerking wisselend van aard: kennis is schaars en per land sterk verschillend. Europese regelgeving als MiCAR biedt handvatten, maar kent ook beperkingen. He explains why he wasn't around but says he wants to be the father he always hoped to be now.  Meanwhile, blue whistle boy Yondu is hired to track them down. Things go sideways FAST when Yondu refuses not to give up Quill location. He ends up being imprisoned with Rocket and Groot, but they escape with some wild arrow work. Back on Planet Daddy Issues, Ego reveals he's basically a god who's been planting himself all over the universe (red flag), having kids everywhere (bigger red flag), and murdering them when they don't have powers (biggest red flag).  Oh, and he casually admits he gave Quill's mom a brain tumor. Cool cool cool. Quill snaps, the team reunites, and it becomes a full-on “let's destroy dad” situation. They head to Ego's literal brain at the planet's core, plant a bomb. The bomb goes off, Ego is toast, and Quill loses his powers in the process. But the emotional gut punch? Yondu sacrifices himself to save Quill, proving he was his real dad all along. we cry. You cry. Everyone cries.  the Ravagers show up to give Yondu the send-off he deserved all along. And we get a thousand mid credit scenes and none of them matter. His mom is sick and she ends up passing away. He's real sad and runs out of the hospital into a foggy field. Unfortunately for him, the hits keep coming and he's abducted by an alien ship. 26 years later, we're on the planet of Morag. We see a dude with a mask of glowing red eyes walking around. He uses this device to see what used to be on the planet. He takes his mask off and we see it's Peter all grown up, still a big fan of music. He tries to steal this orb thing but is taken by guys. Ultimately, he's able to escape, orb in hand. Yondu, the guy who abducted Peter way back when, finds out that Peter stole the orb and puts a bounty out for him. Bad guy Ronan also finds out the orb was taken and sends an assassin named Gamora after him. But that's not allllll - bounty hunters Rocket (a raccoon) and Groot (a tree) see him and decide to go after him when they find out how much his bounty is worth. Peter tries to sell the orb but it doesn't work. Gamora is waiting for him as he walks out and takes the orb. A fight breaks out which is a good time for Rocket and Groot to jump in on the fight. They all end up getting arrested. While in prison, they meet a guy named Drax who is known for killing associates of Ronan, so he's got his sights on Gamora. Peter stops him from killing her by hatching an idea - let her take you to Ronan to kill him. Gamora explains that she's actually betrayed Ronan and intended to sell the orb. Together, they're able to escape. We then see Ronan talking to Gamora's dad, Thanos, about her betrayal. He sends his other daughter (who he loves less), Nebula, to go get her back. So they take the orb to a dude who can open it. Turns out, inside is the Infinity Stone. So that's not great. Nebula shows up and destroys Gamora's ship while Ronan's fighters capture the Orb. Peter sees Gamora out there floating in space about to die. So he goes out there and gives her his helmet so that he can pull her back into his ship. So, Peter & Co. know that facing Ronan will not turn out well but that they cannot let him use the Infinity Stone. So they need to hatch a plan. Speaking of which, Ronan puts the Stone in his warhammer, taking its power for himself. Nebula, hating her dad, agrees to team up with him. So the squad decides to team up with Yondu and co. to stop Ronan. Ronan pulls up and just starts absolutely wrecking their fleet like it's nothing. Inside the ship, Drax gets his revenge moment, Gamora and Nebula have their sister fight, and everyone quickly realizes… oh no, we are in over our heads. Peter decides the best way to stop him is… a dance-off distraction which gives Drax and Rocket just enough time to destroy Ronan's hammer. Peter grabs the Infinity Stone, which should absolutely kill him—but plot twist! His friends grab onto him, they all share the power of friendship, and together they vaporize Ronan. The group officially becomes the Guardians of the Galaxy, their records get wiped clean, and Quill learns he's only half human which is why the Infinity Stone didn't kill him.
