Jeff Whiting is an award-winning director and choreographer, acclaimed as a 'director with a joyous touch' by the New York Times, Jeff Whiting specializes in work for theater, television, special events and concerts around the world, including James Taylor, Bette Midler, Steve Martin, Tony Bennett, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Sting. On Broadway, Jeff was the Associate/Resident Director for the Broadway productions of Bullets Over Broadway (6 Tony Nominations - Susan Stroman), Big Fish (Norbert Leo Butz), The Scottsboro Boys (12 Tony nominations), Hair (Tony-winner of Best Revival), Young Frankenstein (Sutton Foster, Megan Mullally), and Wicked's 5th Anniversary (Stephanie J. Block, Ashanti). National Tour credits include Hairspray, Young Frankenstein, Bullets Over Broadway, Rockin' Road to Dublin, Christmas in Killarney, and The Producers. Having been praised on THE VIEW as 'a truly remarkable talent,' Jeff's theatrical direction and choreography includes development and World premieres of Loch Lomond, Chasing Rainbows (starring Ben Crawford, Ruby Rakos), Fly More Than You Fall (Best Musical), The Scottsboro Boys (Phoenix Theatre Co.), The Lost Colony (Waterside Theatre), Big Fish (Milwaukee), Single Wide (NYMF), Hairspray (Brazilian Production), Big (Milwaukee), In The Light (NYFA), Catch Me If You Can (New London Barn), The Sound of Music (Phoenix Theatre Co.), and Gypsy (Best Director). The Broadway Workroom is designed to showcase emerging artists' work by providing rehearsal and presentation space, including technical support, at no cost to the production in order to help the team further their creative goals along the developmental journey. At the end of each week, the public is invited, at no cost, to experience these dynamic new musicals in concert at Open Jar Studios (1601 Broadway). Tickets for each concert are free, and attendees are encouraged to make a donation to The Stage Door Foundation to help fund their programs. The Broadway Workroom Series provides a rare opportunity for Broadway enthusiasts to witness the evolution of new musicals, a process typically reserved for industry insiders during private "workshops" or "readings. The series' vibe is to present glimpses of shows in their development phases, with focus on the writing and performances and less attention to production value.

Pregnancy loss and infertility can be so hard on a marriage. It can either tear the couple apart or bring them closer together. In fact it is said that almost 80% of couples who experience a miscarriage or infertility end up in divorce. In this month of love we will be featuring 4 couples showing by prayer, faith in God, and a strong commitment to stay together their marriages endured the hard times of pregnancy loss and infertility. This is the last couple in our series The Martin's. They are fellow podcasters and have created Chasing Rainbows podcast documenting their infertility journey. In this episode they take us back to the beginning of their journey to parenthood, battling infertility with a PCOS diagnosis, how they grieved their son Noah they loss at 20 weeks, and how Starbucks is helping fund their IVF journey. WE ARE THE MARTINS!! Being from two different states, Jason (MS) and I (KY) met in college and have been married for more than 14 plus years and sexually active for 16 years (I know!). Although we practiced safe sex, during college, we never became pregnant. I started noticing some changes with my body, saw my gynecologist and was diagnosed with PCOS. We figured we would take meds, enjoy each other, and worry about babies later. Little did we know, later would be 8-10 years down the road. With our first miraculous pregnancy, we experienced a second-trimester pregnancy loss with no known medical reason. It would take several years later for us to conceive with some medical assistance which all ended in miscarriages. Pregnancy losses are difficult but we are still standing! I always have a good time with Barry Friedman and he was my guest on the podcast today.  Barry's specialty is trade blankets. These range from the traditional Pendleton to a variety of different types of blankets that were made commercially from 1892 up to today. The Pendleton company is still making wonderful blankets as we speak. I've done a podcast with him in the past (episode 15), where you can hear his whole backstory. It's extremely interesting because he was a professional writer for comedians and the whole of Hollywood for around 30 years. He's funny... really funny, actually - which is why I enjoy having him on the podcast so much. This time around we wanted to talk about the new Martin Scorsese movie Killers of the Flower Moon with Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone. It's about the Osage tragedy of 1921 and, while it's a great read, It's a terrible, traumatic story. Much of America's history with Native culture, and the atrocities that occurred are not dissimilar from the events told in this film. As far as the podcast goes, Barry provided all the trade blankets for the movie. He sold them over 60 pieces. We talked about the process of how he got involved and what that meant for him. It's an interesting story involving a guy who has spent his entire life loving this kind of blanket and has become the world's expert on the subject. We had a great, fun time. And I think this is a really interesting and unique podcast with Barry Friedman.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, your pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and strength, those who were hurt are made better and strong again, like we remember them before they go to heaven. They are happy and content except for one small thing—they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are shining, his body shakes. Suddenly he begins to run from the herd, rushing over the grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cuddle in a happy hug never to be apart again. You and your pet are in tears. Your hands again cuddle his head and you look again into his trusting eyes, so long gone from life, but never absent from your heart, and then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together. The Rainbow Bridge has long been a comfort to many whose pets have gone onto the next world. The Facebook photos that get shared whenever someone posts about their loss usually list the author as "unknown." It was recently discovered, though, that it was written by a Scottish artist and animal lover, Edna Clyne-Rekhy. She was 19 at the time -- more than 60 years ago -- and grieving the loss of her Labrador retriever, Major. Her mother suggested she write how she was feeling. She showed it to friends. They wanted their own copies. It got passed around. It got changed over time. Sixty years later, the sentiment remains the same. Our pets are waiting in some supernatural field of flowers and rainbows. Waiting for us. And many who are raised to belief in an afterlife find the words soothing, a promise that we'll see our beloved fur friends again. Others find it off-putting. What if there's no afterlife? Why does my dog have to just sit there and wait for me until I die? What if … how does … and why … As a recovering Catholic and an atheist, I wanted to dig deeper into this. Is the Rainbow Bridge the right piece of prose to share to someone whose pet just died? Is it meaningful, hurtful or an empty gesture like "thoughts and prayers"? I put my friend Beth Bigler, a pet loss grief counsellor and the mastermind behind @honoringouranimals, on the hot seat. What to listen for 4:46 Why we must be inclusive with beliefs in pet loss grief 12:39 How we maintain our connection after our pets have died 16:02 The confusion Beth experienced after Arne died 22:25 Why we must mirror a griever's language to provide support 27:30 How we can show up for people experiencing pet loss grief 36:59 Coping with the uncertainty of death, loss and grief --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onelastnetwork/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onelastnetwork/support

Rose City Band - “Chasing Rainbows” from the 2023 album Garden Party on Thrill Jockey. Rose City Band, the brainchild of Ripley Johnson (also of Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo and, with a name like that, was either born to play music or be the keeper of facts that you may, or may not, believe) is due to release their fourth record later this month. Titled Garden Party, the album follows up 2021's Earth Trip and is said to be, “A celebration of summer and all it brings: communal gatherings, the respites offered by nature, and an appreciation for even the simplest beauty, from 12-foot sunflowers to a contorted carrot planted in the spring.” The record's lead single and our Song of the Day does not dispute that claim. “Chasing Rainbows,” by name alone, suggests the nostalgic innocence of childhood when one's summer days might consist of chasing things one cannot capture but deeply believe they can. Led by a rollicking pedal steel by Barry Walker, the song actually tells a story not of childhood but on the road on tour, which can feel like a certain kind of childhood in that your days are filled with car rides and playing music. ”Tour ‘round the world and back,” sings Johnson. “Throw it out and you blaze a path /Wanderin' a dream all our own.” Rose City Band will be chasing rainbows all the way to Seattle on Friday, May 5th to play the Tractor Tavern. Read Martin Douglas' Throwaway Style piece on Rose City Band and watch Ripley Johnson front a Wooden Shjips KEXP in-studio performance from all the way back in 2013 at the full post at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Once a comedy writer, Barry Friedman is one of the those collectors turned dealers stories that we love to hear about. What's more fascinating, is that he's really the only person dealing strictly in one category, which is antique Indian trade and camp blankets. This is one of those things where you have definitely seen them in passing, but you may not have known exactly what you were looking at. One of the original makers, Pendleton, has even recreated some of them to this day. Barry has found a healthy balance between collecting these for himself and making it his business. In fact, he's Ralph Lauren's go-to when it comes to supplying these for his personal ranch in Colorado as well as his Double RL stores around the world. If you've ever had the chance to go into a Double RL store and seen these blankets, well, that's Barry's doing. Barry also was contacted recently to supply all the blankets for a huge Hollywood movie starring some of the biggest names in the industry. He's truly an expert in this stuff, so much so that he's a consultant for Pendleton, whose the only surviving manufacturer for these products. He knows more about this stuff than you would think is even possible. Here it is, this is Barry Friedman, for Collectors Gene Radio.Barry's Website - https://barryfriedmanblankets.com/Barry's Books - https://barryfriedmanblankets.com/book-chasing-rainbows/
