Content Warning: This episode discusses pregnancy loss, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death. Please take care of yourself if these topics are sensitive or triggering for you. This week, Traci tackles a topic that touches one in four pregnancies but remains largely invisible in workplace conversations: pregnancy and infant loss.A longtime listener and HR professional reached out to share her powerful story of loss and resilience after losing her newborn son earlier this year. Through her experience, she's seen how unprepared many workplaces are to support grieving parents—and she's on a mission to change that. Her message is a call to action for HR leaders to bring more compassion, awareness, and humanity to how we support employees through unimaginable loss.Spoiler alert: There's no federal requirement for bereavement leave in private employment, leaving a massive gap in support for grieving parents.Traci reveals the three-stage support framework that actually works, explores state laws that lead the way, and shares why explicitly stating "reproductive loss" in policies makes all the difference. What We Cover:– The one-in-four reality: Why this is far more common than most realize and how that should reshape support– The three-stage framework: Supporting employees before return, during transition, and once they're back– Language that harms versus heals: What to avoid saying and what actually helps– State laws leading the way: How California, Illinois, Oregon, and Washington provide reproductive loss leave– Making loss explicit: Why stating "reproductive loss" in policies normalizes asking for supportHave thoughts on how your organization supports employees through loss, or want to share what's working in your workplace? #920 | Ed and Dharnish pick apart United's defeat at Brentford – another game of aimless long balls, players out of position, and a system that looks increasingly unworkable. The expected goals against keeps piling up, the chances created are toothless, and Ruben Amorim's supposed philosophy remains nowhere to be seen. There's debate over Bruno Fernandes' role, attacking patterns that break down before they begin, and whether the summer signings are doing anything to shift the needle. It's hard not to question whether Amorim can actually turn this around. Still, Sunderland is next – and with it, a sliver of hope. At the end of each week, the public is invited, at no cost, to experience these dynamic new musicals in concert at Open Jar Studios (1601 Broadway). Tickets for each concert are free, and attendees are encouraged to make a donation to The Stage Door Foundation to help fund their programs. The Broadway Workroom Series provides a rare opportunity for Broadway enthusiasts to witness the evolution of new musicals, a process typically reserved for industry insiders during private "workshops" or "readings. The series' vibe is to present glimpses of shows in their development phases, with focus on the writing and performances and less attention to production value.

Sisters in Loss Podcast: Miscarriage, Pregnancy Loss, & Infertility Stories
Pregnancy loss and infertility can be so hard on a marriage. It can either tear the couple apart or bring them closer together. In fact it is said that almost 80% of couples who experience a miscarriage or infertility end up in divorce. In this month of love we will be featuring 4 couples showing by prayer, faith in God, and a strong commitment to stay together their marriages endured the hard times of pregnancy loss and infertility. This is the last couple in our series The Martin's. They are fellow podcasters and have created Chasing Rainbows podcast documenting their infertility journey. In this episode they take us back to the beginning of their journey to parenthood, battling infertility with a PCOS diagnosis, how they grieved their son Noah they loss at 20 weeks, and how Starbucks is helping fund their IVF journey. WE ARE THE MARTINS!! Being from two different states, Jason (MS) and I (KY) met in college and have been married for more than 14 plus years and sexually active for 16 years (I know!). Although we practiced safe sex, during college, we never became pregnant. I started noticing some changes with my body, saw my gynecologist and was diagnosed with PCOS. We figured we would take meds, enjoy each other, and worry about babies later. Little did we know, later would be 8-10 years down the road. With our first miraculous pregnancy, we experienced a second-trimester pregnancy loss with no known medical reason. It would take several years later for us to conceive with some medical assistance which all ended in miscarriages. Pregnancy losses are difficult but we are still standing! I always have a good time with Barry Friedman and he was my guest on the podcast today. Barry's specialty is trade blankets. These range from the traditional Pendleton to a variety of different types of blankets that were made commercially from 1892 up to today. The Pendleton company is still making wonderful blankets as we speak. I've done a podcast with him in the past (episode 15), where you can hear his whole backstory. It's extremely interesting because he was a professional writer for comedians and the whole of Hollywood for around 30 years. He's funny... really funny, actually - which is why I enjoy having him on the podcast so much. This time around we wanted to talk about the new Martin Scorsese movie Killers of the Flower Moon with Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone. It's about the Osage tragedy of 1921 and, while it's a great read, It's a terrible, traumatic story. Much of America's history with Native culture, and the atrocities that occurred are not dissimilar from the events told in this film. As far as the podcast goes, Barry provided all the trade blankets for the movie. He sold them over 60 pieces. We talked about the process of how he got involved and what that meant for him. It's an interesting story involving a guy who has spent his entire life loving this kind of blanket and has become the world's expert on the subject. We had a great, fun time. And I think this is a really interesting and unique podcast with Barry Friedman.

Rose City Band - “Chasing Rainbows” from the 2023 album Garden Party on Thrill Jockey. Rose City Band, the brainchild of Ripley Johnson (also of Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo and, with a name like that, was either born to play music or be the keeper of facts that you may, or may not, believe) is due to release their fourth record later this month. Titled Garden Party, the album follows up 2021's Earth Trip and is said to be, “A celebration of summer and all it brings: communal gatherings, the respites offered by nature, and an appreciation for even the simplest beauty, from 12-foot sunflowers to a contorted carrot planted in the spring.” The record's lead single and our Song of the Day does not dispute that claim. “Chasing Rainbows,” by name alone, suggests the nostalgic innocence of childhood when one's summer days might consist of chasing things one cannot capture but deeply believe they can. Led by a rollicking pedal steel by Barry Walker, the song actually tells a story not of childhood but on the road on tour, which can feel like a certain kind of childhood in that your days are filled with car rides and playing music. ”Tour ‘round the world and back,” sings Johnson. “Throw it out and you blaze a path /Wanderin' a dream all our own.” Rose City Band will be chasing rainbows all the way to Seattle on Friday, May 5th to play the Tractor Tavern. Read Martin Douglas' Throwaway Style piece on Rose City Band and watch Ripley Johnson front a Wooden Shjips KEXP in-studio performance from all the way back in 2013 at the full post at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Happy 2023, Campers! Our resolution this year was obviously to keep talking about TV at the start of every episode. Today, we celebrate in the most wholesome way we know how: a trip to the Chasing Rainbows Dolly Parton Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Once a comedy writer, Barry Friedman is one of the those collectors turned dealers stories that we love to hear about. What's more fascinating, is that he's really the only person dealing strictly in one category, which is antique Indian trade and camp blankets. This is one of those things where you have definitely seen them in passing, but you may not have known exactly what you were looking at. One of the original makers, Pendleton, has even recreated some of them to this day. Barry has found a healthy balance between collecting these for himself and making it his business. In fact, he's Ralph Lauren's go-to when it comes to supplying these for his personal ranch in Colorado as well as his Double RL stores around the world. If you've ever had the chance to go into a Double RL store and seen these blankets, well, that's Barry's doing. Barry also was contacted recently to supply all the blankets for a huge Hollywood movie starring some of the biggest names in the industry. He's truly an expert in this stuff, so much so that he's a consultant for Pendleton, whose the only surviving manufacturer for these products. He knows more about this stuff than you would think is even possible. Here it is, this is Barry Friedman, for Collectors Gene Radio.Barry's Website - https://barryfriedmanblankets.com/Barry's Books - https://barryfriedmanblankets.com/book-chasing-rainbows/
