Danny chats to me growing up in Cork and his start in boxing. He had a very successful amateur career, winning 3 Irish National titles and represented Ireland at the European championships. He would decide to travel to Australia as many lads would in their late teens, but he would soon stumble across a boxing gym and continue his journey on the other side of the world. He would turn professional over in Australia and would win his first 3 fights before COVID would derail his career.Danny would decide to move back home in 2020 and would begin the next chapter of his pro career in 2021. In recent years he has won fights in Ireland and in Australia to remain undefeated 9-0. In recent months a link up with manager, Dennis Hogan and being signed by Tasman promotions has allowed him to get onto the huge DAZN platform. He now has an opportunity to win his first title as he challenges for the WBC Australasia title on the undercard of Jai Opetaia's world title fight in Australia on June 8th. Danny is hoping this next fight will be just the start of the titles in his career. Listen to his story today.

At the moment in church circles the great buzzwords are "Synodality" and "Synod". But for the vast majority of Catholics it is not something they are overly familiar with but which could have massive impact on us as a faith community. On this weeks podcast, the C&SI team have part three of a four part series looking at what it all means, what has been happening and what is next. We are joined by Julianne Moran to talk about the process of the national synthesis which was the writing up of a national summary document from all 26 dioceses in Ireland as well as 29 other groups and which was then submitted to the Holy See.Synod on SynodalityIn October 2021 Pope Francis formally launched the two-year global consultation process leading to the 2023 synod (and now the 2024 synod) on synodality which focuses on the theme, “For a Synodal Church, Communion, Participation and Mission". Pope Francis has called for the widest and deepest consultation globally, inviting each person to “look others in the eye and listen to what they have to say.” Each diocese in Ireland engaged in this process of listening and consultation and submissions from each diocese were returned to the Episcopal conference which in turn was forwarded as the response of the Irish Church to the Holy See. Hannah Thornton has always been passionate about sport. She played basketball for Ireland at the age of 14 and at the age of 17 obtained a sports scholarship with the University of Northern Colorado, playing in NCAA Division I's Big Sky Conference. She also devoted a little time to study, obtaining her Bachelor Degree in Sports and Exercise Science and a separate degree in Nutrition. After graduation, Hannah began work at an elite sports-specific training facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado where the focus was to transform young adults into top athletes. Here, she qualified as a Personal Trainer, working with the best athletes in Colorado, as well as aspiring candidates for the NFL and NBA. After two years Ireland beckoned, and Hannah returned home to use the training and principles learned during her six years in the States. Initially working with a small company that was dedicated to High Performance Team Development, Hannah started with the health and wellbeing sector of the corporate world. She explained the importance of health and performance to clients in different professions around the world, often presenting to hundreds of people at a time. Regardless of culture, country or gender, Hannah's message was consistent - focus on wellbeing, focus on nutrition, focus on resilience. In 2017, Hannah took the big step - she decided to follow her own dream of impacting and helping young adults and teenagers to achieve their full potential. First step: she added to her training by qualifying for the International Sports Society of Nutrition, followed by a Masters in Applied Sports and Exercise Nutrition. Hannah's mission for Next Generation Health is to help create a healthier generation in Ireland. She wants to raise the bar in the health and performance. What helps Hannah stand out is that she herself is an elite athlete, currently playing for Ireland's senior women team for basketball. This allows Hannah to engage with elite athletes on a whole different level and helps her excel at what she does best- which is performance nutrition!
