Researchers from Curtin University have found that meteorite impacts, influenced by the solar system's journey through the galaxy, have played a significant role in shaping our planet's geology. The episode explores how ancient zircon crystals are providing a unique archive of Earth's interactions with the galaxy, suggesting that astrophysical processes may have directly influenced the continents beneath our feet and the conditions that made life possible.Taikonaut Stranded in SpaceIn a dramatic turn of events, three Chinese taikonauts are stranded in orbit after their Shenzhou 20 spacecraft was struck by suspected space junk just hours before their scheduled return to Earth. This segment discusses the implications of the impact, the ongoing assessments by mission managers, and the potential need for a replacement capsule to ensure the crew's safe return. The episode also reflects on past incidents involving space debris and the measures taken to protect the Tiangong Space Station. The Biggest Supermoon of the YearSkywatchers around the globe were treated to the biggest supermoon of the year, appearing 7% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon. Read transcriptLock and load your law enforcement credentials, plug in your justice-dispensing visor, and prepare for some megacity-sized mayhem as Play Comics dives into the brutal, unforgiving world of Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death—the PSX, Xbox, and GameCube shooter that proved you could make a genuinely compelling Judge Dredd game if you weren't afraid to lean into the dystopian carnage and stylized ultraviolence that makes Mega-City One such a joy to read about. Released when Judge Dredd was already a 2000 AD institution spanning decades of comic book brutality, this game took the Dredd vs Death story arc and transformed it into a first-person adrenaline rush where the law doesn't negotiate—it just executes. This week, we're absolutely thrilled to welcome the phenomenally knowledgeable Chloe Maveal from the official 2000 AD podcast In Orbit Every Wednesday, where she and her co-host Molch-R break down the Galaxy's Greatest Comic with the kind of passion and insight that would make even Judge Dredd stop and listen (okay, maybe not, but he'd at least acknowledge it happened). Chloe is also the publisher behind the critically acclaimed TRASH HUMPER zine, where she explores everything from comics criticism to culture with a sharp, witty eye. When she's not busy being the voice of sophisticated 2000 AD fandom, she's creating comics-focused content that makes you think twice about what you're reading. Together, we'll investigate whether this brutal pixel-based interpretation of Judge Dredd's most gothic storyline managed to capture what makes the Judge such an iconic character—a faceless instrument of a broken justice system who's somehow still the hero we deserve, even if we don't deserve him. Does the gameplay hold up after all these years, or does it feel like it belongs in the Iso-Cube? How faithful does it stay to the source material, and does that even matter when you're blasting away at demonic horrors and mutant abominations in a mega-city dystopia? And perhaps most importantly: in a game where you're literally fighting the undead, where does Judge Dredd rank among other video game adaptations of 2000 AD's most iconic characters? Grab your daystick, practice your best “I am the law” growl, and join us for an episode that's guaranteed to be bloodier than a Justice Department discipline report. Learn such things as: Should Judge Dredd games take themselves as seriously as Judge Dredd takes the law? Does the choice of console actually impact how you experience a multi-platform release? What did Anthrax ever do to Chloe? And so much more! You can find Chloe on the official 2000 AD podcast In Orbit Every Wednesday, checking out the TRASH HUMPER zine, or on BlueSky @cuntersthompson. The Local Arm of the Milky Way and the Sun's Changing Place. Dr. Ken Croswell discusses new revelations about the Milky Way, a spiral galaxy. The Sun is in the local arm, also called the Orion arm, which is a vigorous star nursery containing the Orion Nebula. Previously considered a minor spur, the local arm is now known to be substantial, extending at least 26,000 light-years. Observations rely on maser parallaxes measured by radio telescopes and precise data from the optical Gaia spacecraft. The Sun is not a permanent resident of this arm.

As the creative mind behind Blackadder, Spitting Image, Not the Nine O'Clock News and QI, John Lloyd has quietly shaped British comedy for more than forty years. In this episode of Full Disclosure, he sits down with James O'Brien to look back on the work that defined his career-and the questions that have driven him ever since.Lloyd reflects on his peripatetic naval childhood, his years at Cambridge and the realisation that comedy, not law, was his calling. He shares candid stories about discovering Rowan Atkinson, collaborating with Douglas Adams on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and co-creating The Meaning of Liff. Alongside the triumphs came struggle- including a midlife breakdown that forced him to re-examine success, purpose and the art of living.Blending humour, honesty and philosophy, Lloyd explores the connection between curiosity and creativity, why he believes comedy can change how we see the world, and how even life's disasters can turn out to be gifts.Find out more about The 42nd anniversary edition of The Meaning of Liff here

Time for another jaunt over to Eastern Europe and the unique and wonderful cinema that only those guys seem capable of making. Once again, we have the privilege of welcoming Jonathan Owen onto the show to discuss Juraj Herz's Czech New Wave masterpiece, The Cremator (1969), and the truly bizarre slice of Yugoslav comic lunacy Visitors From The Galaxy (2000), directed by Dušan Vukotić. A tour through the disturbing mind of a proto-Nazi psychopath followed by a bizarre adventure with androids, laser-eyed kids, nude Croatians and the weirdest monster ever devised laying waste to a wedding feast. It's going to be a hell of a trip east, this week! We don't think you can really spoil Visitors From The Galaxy, which is less interested in following a clear plot than it is in just spiralling through ever-increasing layers of insanity, but we will call out Spoiler Territory for The Cremator. Every October, New York Comic Con (NYCC) rolls around. Normally, they don't acknowledge their proximity to the spooky season, but this year, as crowds reached pre-pandemic sizes, they embraced Halloween. Cosplay took on a more deliciously grisly vibe, and we found ourselves feeling more ghoulish than usual, too. The conversations we sought ventured into bloodier tales of both good and bad natures. Michael Walsh joined us in the Tiny Onion booth to explain the game design that birthed Exquisite Corpses, and how such play was influenced by his recent stint on Frankenstein. We met artist Tristan Jones upstairs in the infamous “Butter Corner,” where the IDW Publishing booth found itself this year. We discussed his collaboration with Christian Ward on the utterly surprising Event Horizon: Dark Descent series, and how he finally delivered what the movie only hinted at back in the nineties. Exquisite Corpses Volume 1 is now available from Tiny Onion and Image Comics. Event Horizon: Dark Descent issues 1-2 are now available from IDW Publishing. Issue 3 arrives in comic book shops everywhere on November 12th. Follow Michael Walsh on Blue Sky and Instagram. Follow Tristan Jones on Blue Sky and Instagram. This Week's Sponsors This November, Event Horizon: Dark Descent, the terrifying comic book prequel series to the classic, 90s, hellraising sci-fi film, reaches its epic third issue, and if you always wanted to know the gory details about exactly what went down when the Event Horizon crew were transported to hell, this is the issue you cannot miss. From writer Christian Ward and artist Tristan Jones, Event Horizon: Dark Descent #3 lands in comic book shops on November 12th courtesy of IDW Publishing, with a killer cover by Jeffrey Alan Love and a variant cover by Chris Burnham. "The dead have appeared to me — and there is something else loose upon the ship. If you can hear me, it may be too late for you. LIBERA TE TUTEMET EX INFERIS!" Are you ready to face the future? In this episode of SpaceTime, we delve into groundbreaking discoveries that could reshape our understanding of life on Mars and the cosmos beyond.Martian Ice: A Potential Reservoir for LifeA recent study suggests that Martian ice may be the most promising location to search for signs of ancient microbial life. Researchers found that biomolecules from dormant microbes degrade significantly slower in pure water ice compared to Martian soil mixtures. This discovery, published in the journal Astrobiology, raises hopes that future missions to Mars could uncover preserved organic materials in its icy regions, potentially revealing the planet's biological history.A Mysterious Dark Object in the UniverseAstronomers have identified the lowest mass dark object ever detected, with a mass about a million times that of our Sun. This enigmatic object, reported in Nature Astronomy, may offer insights into the nature of dark matter, which constitutes a significant portion of the universe's mass. The object was detected through gravitational lensing, and its small size challenges existing theories about dark matter's composition and distribution.NASA's Call for Lunar Mission BidsNASA is seeking new bids for its Artemis Moon program, aiming to foster competition among American companies to return humans to the lunar surface. With ongoing delays from SpaceX, NASA Administrator Sean Duffy emphasizes the urgency of the mission as the U.S. races against China to achieve lunar exploration milestones. In this powerful episode, Wendy Valentine sits down with Nicole Bell, author of What Lurks in the Woods and CEO of Galaxy Diagnostics, to uncover the truth about Lyme disease and tick-borne infections that are too often misdiagnosed or misunderstood. Nicole shares her deeply personal story of her husband's tragic battle with a misdiagnosed tick-borne illness that was mistaken for early-onset Alzheimer's, and how that journey fueled her mission to transform Lyme testing and awareness. Together, Wendy and Nicole discuss why so many people struggle to get answers, the importance of early detection, the connection between Lyme, chronic illness, and hormone shifts, and how to become your own best health advocate. What You'll Learn: Why Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood The difference between Lyme and other tick-borne infections like Babesia and Bartonella How traditional Lyme testing fails—and what new diagnostic methods work better Common symptoms that can mimic menopause, anxiety, or chronic fatigue How tick-borne illness can trigger neurodegenerative and mental health conditions Practical steps to protect yourself, detect infection early, and find real healing
