Drop us a message with any questions you may have :)Winter Olympics Special - sponsored by Crystal Ski HolidaysIn this week's special Winter Olympics episode, we've got an absolute cracker. We're joined by TNT Sports presenter and former Olympian Charlie Guest, who shares what she loved most about the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, what it was really like being there on the ground, and which British athletes we should be watching as the next generation builds momentum. From historic breakthroughs to near misses, she gives us her expert take on the future of Team GB on snow and ice.We also sit down with the one and only Eddie the Eagle Edwards. Eddie talks candidly about what it really takes to become an Olympic ski jumper, how different the pathway looks today compared to his era, and why he doesn't actually follow the sport as closely anymore. As always, he brings honesty, perspective and a few laughs along the way.And of course, we dive into the stories that made these Games unforgettable. From 52 year old Austrian snowboarders defying age, to political controversy on the slopes, broken Olympic medals, funky skeleton helmets being banned, weather chaos, viral suit reveals, backflips in figure skating, and even a rogue wolfdog called Nazgul interrupting cross country racing. Yes, really. We touch on Team GB's historic snowboard cross gold, the big winners and heartbreak stories, and the bizarre off piste drama that included public confessions and that ski jumping controversy everyone was talking about. It's insight, opinion, drama and plenty of weird and wonderful Olympic moments — so let's get stuck in.Support the showIn the meantime Enjoy the mountains :) And Please do leave a review as it's the only way other like minded travellers get to find us! Today, we catch up with Taron Egerton, originally episode 350 from 2020-10-21.Original writeup below:As with so many of these episodes featuring the UK acting crew, there is an over-riding spiritual link by way of Stephen Graham, so props must be given to him first off! This one feels like another ‘long time coming' episode, where it was just a matter of time and arrangements to lock it in. Naturally there's lockdown talk up top, which is always fascinating as we all want to know how it's been affecting each other - Taron's found himself in Wales, which brings us to his upbringing (including Liverpool), and from then on you can expect some good talk on social media, RADA and family whip-rounds for auditions, early days (not THAT long ago!) on Kingsman, lessons learned through each film, voice acting vs acting-acting, Matthew Vaughn, Dexter Fletcher, Tom Hardy, his own filmography (including Eddie The Eagle and Rocketman to name a couple), and tons more. Uplifting and inspirational - you shall enjoy!PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureTARON ONLINETARON on INSTAGRAMTARON on TWITTERTARON on IMDBROCKETMANPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITTERPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Moose, beavers, bears, and stampedes – just another day in the life of this episode's guest, Glen Mikkelsen, Manager of Entertainment at CN Centre in Prince George, BC, Canada. Join us for this fun episode where we learn all about Northern BC and the CN Centre, what makes them unique and special, and their various events – including the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship (originally ready to start in 2020, one day after things shut down). Hear what it's like managing the largest venue in Canada north of Edmonton, challenges they face with booking and weather, and their hospitality-forward mindset – which is not only a staple of their residents but permeates their venue experience. Beyond his love of his city and venue, Glen is passionate about professional chuckwagon racing, which celebrated its 100 year anniversary this year, and is unique to Canada. Falling in love with the sport growing up in Calgary, Glen has authored three books on the sport, including his latest, “The Rangeland Derby - 100 Years of Chuckwagon Racing at the Calgary Stampede,” which came out this spring. We also learn how he fell in love with live events, from planning gatherings for friends to volunteering at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, where he worked ski jumping (when Eddie The Eagle competed) and bobsledding (when the Jamaican bobsled team made headlines). This week's interview is with three guests from the retirement home specialists, Inspired Villages. Lawrence Cramer is the People and Culture Director and was involved recently in setting up an initiative called Pensioner Personal Trainers with none other than the UK's most famous ski jumper, Eddie the Eagle. Eddie is famed for his can-do spirit in the face of hopeless adversity, so was the perfect person to front the initiative aimed at inspiring residents to keep moving and keep fit. A recent study showed the importance of mature personal trainers, as 37% of Brits are more likely to frequent the gym if there are trainers and customers of a similar age group. With nearly 39% agreeing that their communities don't have enough wellbeing and fitness facilities for the older generation (aged 65+), Eddie the Eagle came to the rescue to challenge this narrative and led a fitness session at Ledian Gardens, Inspired Village's scheme in Kent along with fellow PPTs Lynne Thompson (75), and Instepp's Julie Ford (68). Julie and Lynne join our conversation and explain how older personal trainers can help make exercise more accessible for us as we get older.

Since the 2022 Winter Olympic Games are winding down, we decided to talk about Eddie The Eagle.   Taron Egerton & Hugh Jackman make for a likable combo in this ski-jumping biopic. They and the other actors are responsible for why the movie is even as good as it is. We've seen this paint-by-numbers story so many times before. Cool Runnings is a good comparison. Ironically, both films are based on true stories that actually happened at the same Winter Olympics in Calgary. These are inspirational stories of determined underdogs who have more far more passion than talent. Their enthusiasm is infectious, but Dexter Fletcher's movie also has a small sense of Rudy-esque entitlement.   Perhaps poetically, in an Eddie The Eagle touch, we came up short of Chris' goal to make this a 61-minute episode. So throw on a winter jacket, put away your whiskey flask and pour a tall glass of milk as we show you our moderate Olympic spirit.   If you like to send messages to people on Twitter, look for us (@moviefiend51 and @scoringatmovies) or email us at scoringatthemovies@gmail.com

Eddie The Eagle was the first and most memorable British ski jumper that has ever competed in the Olympics, mostly because Brits don't ski jump. He participated as the only British ski jumper in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and through his performance was launched into history as the athlete who "made it look difficult" and had results to show it. Nevertheless, he was the British record holder until 2001 but again, Brits don't ski jump so take that as you will. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sports-history-101/support
