This month Brian leads a discussion about banking at Walt Disney World and everything guests had to do to pay for their transactions at the parks and resorts before debit card terminals and Magic Bands became ubiquitous. Cash was king, but Traveler's Checks and personal checks were also common before Walt Disney World began allowing credit cards. We'll reveal how they worked, their benefits, and their frustrations. We also dive into the history of Disney's relationship with its original banking partner, Sun Bank. Find about their full-service branches located in each of the parks and near Disney Springs, including the beautiful late-1880s-styled bank on Main Street which is now the Chamber of Commerce, and why we think the bank vault is still there. If you're a cast member who can confirm or deny our hunch, send us an email! Todd also takes us into the many advancements in banking technologies that make paying for things in the park easier and more worry-free today.

One difference is that you currently can't use MagicMobile for your room key. However, there is another feature within the MDE app that allows you to unlock your room door with the app. MagicBands MagicBands have functionality like the Key to the World Cards, but they also have a long range RFID system for capturing ride photos and linking them directly into your account. What I've learned is that the long range RFID requires a battery and that it will go out after a couple of years, but the short range RFID – for things like entering the parks as your park ticket and so forth, does not require a battery and so that part of your MagicBand will still work. Key to the World Cards A Free alternative to using your phone or buying a MagicBand. Here is what you can do with Key to the World Cards: Unlock your Disney Resort hotel room door Enter theme parks (with linked valid theme park admission and park reservation) Connect Disney PhotoPass images to your account Gain access to virtual queues (currently in use for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind) Redeem Lightning Lane ride reservations booked via Genie+ or the a la carte purchase option Charge to your Disney Resort hotel folio during your stay MagicBand Plus The MagicBand Plus really has two sides to it, the original MagicBand side that works the same as the original MagicBands, even if the battery is run down, and the “Plus” side that incorporates all of the additional features and requires your battery to be charged in order to access them. That includes the special effects (such as for the 50th Anniversary Statues), minigames, interaction with the shows, and so forth. If the battery runs out, those won't work but the original MagicBand features will still work. World of Color – One will celebrate the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney 100 years ago. The show will tell a story of how a single action creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change. Wondrous Journeys will be the new Disneyland fireworks show that will have nods to all 60 Walt Disney Animation Studios films to date, and will include more state of the art projection effects on Main Street, it's a small world, and the Rivers of America. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/disneyland-resort-announcements-from-d23-expo-2022-and-more/ The Disney Parks Blog did what Josh D'Amaro didn't do at the D23 Expo last week – they gave us some information on the Magic Bands coming to Disneyland! No exact date was mentioned, but they did confirm that Magic Bands should be at the resort for guests this fall. The Magic Bands will allow guests to get into the parks, redeem Lightning Lane reservations, open Disney Resort Hotel room doors, buy merchandise, link PhotoPass photos, and more. Some of the flashier features include glowing with the nighttime entertainment and adding the ability to play games in the park. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/magicband-features-and-experiences-revealed-for-disneyland-resort-coming-this-fall/ One of the announcements from the D23 Expo last weekend was the new name of the hotel, formerly known as the Paradise Pier Hotel. The Pixar Place Hotel will be the name when the refurbishment is complete. No date on that yet. A Finding Nemo themed splash pad will be coming to the hotel, along with the Southern California team from Great Maple, which will run the restaurant on the first floor, along with other food and beverage locations at the hotel. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/disneyland-resort-announcements-from-d23-expo-2022-and-more/ Princess and the Frog has come to New Orleans Square – long before the retheming of Splash Mountain! Eudora's Chic Boutique featuring Tiana's Gourmet Secrets opened this week and offers Princess and the Frog themed merchandise, cooking supplies, and Tiana's own spices and sauces. Imagineers designed the story of the shop to be owned by Tiana's mother, Eudora. The new shop is just one main space that is pretty small, with walls covered in artwork showing the lives and scenes of New Orleans and Tiana herself! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/09/20/explore-disneys-new-princess-and-the-frog-themed-store-with-us-eudoras-chic-boutique/ Overnight guests at Disney Resort Hotels will have a special experience for Halloween this year. Each hotel will offer trick-or-treating, with a treat map for each hotel with locations handing out complimentary candy. Hotel guests are encouraged to sign up at the front desk of their Disney Resort Hotel. The dates for this are October 28th through 31st. The menu has not been updated. – https://www.micechat.com/333927-disneyland-update-halloween-treats-traffic-tricks/ Another patent has been posted that was requested by Disney. This time, it is for a glasses-free VR attraction experience. In basic terms, the new technology would use projections and reflections, much like the Pepper's Ghost effect that we have had in the Haunted Mansion for years now. Of course, just because a patent is filed doesn't mean that it will show up anywhere in the parks soon. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/09/disney-files-patent-for-glasses-free-vr-attraction/ Discussion Topic: Tage and Teresa's Trip to Disneyland and Oogie Boogie Bash Recap

Episode 65: Revisiting Episode 014: Growth by Collaboration Our Summer Series continues this week with another back-to-the-basics episode from Pixie Dust's past! As you might already know, we've been spending the summer revisiting some of our favorite episodes and also providing some much-needed updates from a 2022 perspective! This week, we revisit Episode 014, where we discussed the successful collaborations that Disney has created — with some unexpected brands. We dig into Disney's versatility and ability to leverage any and all opportunities, while also providing some insightful information about how to make brand collabs work for YOUR biz. Minnie Vans: Disney + Lyft If you've visited Disney recently, then you might have seen the world's cutest car cruising around Disney property – the Minnie Van! These red buggies, decorated adorably with Minnie's well-known white polka dots, are Disney's answer to skipping long bus lines at the end of a long day and receiving faster transport back to your hotel. But, no, it's not actually Minnie's car. The Minnie Vans are a collaboration between Disney and Lyft Services. Disney knew that they didn't need to build their own proprietary system for this, but they also knew they had a really strong brand that could attach itself to something already established. Enter: Lyft!
Len Testa and Jim Hill welcome Mrs. Shannon Ford, who talks about her experience aboard the Disney Wish. The nostalgia is REAL this week, folks! For the continuation of our flashback Summer Series, we're taking it as far back as we can this week with our FIRST. EVER. EPISODE!
Get ready partiers because this week we are bringing you yet another Disney themed episode. But before Disney, Ryan talks about "The Comedy Store" documentary that he watched over the weekend. Then the guys reflect on their three previous episodes where they had some talented special guests on who shared some creative insight on their craft. Then Disney takes the main stage as the fellas talk about potential new Disney IP's that could be bought for new rides. From there, they go down a list of some tech savvy changes Disney has made and go over the pros and cons of those newly implemented changes.
