Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/688 Presented By: Grand Teton Fly Fishing Scott Smith, owner of Grand Teton Fly Fishing, takes us on a journey through the Yellowstone area. We'll uncover tips for fishing the area's rivers, learn about pre-hatches, and hear Scott's biggest tip for landing those tricky fish sipping bugs off the surface. Plus, Scott will also share stories about his mentor, Jack Dennis. This is going to be a good one! Show Notes with Scott Smith on Grand Teton Fly Fishing. 02:03 - Scott grew up fishing creeks in North Georgia. Fly fishing for him came later when he picked up a rod at 12 at a garage sale and taught himself through magazines and VHS tapes. He eventually met Jack Dennis, who became his mentor. Check out our episode with Jack Dennis. Starting Grand Teton Fly Fishing 05:52 - Scott moved to Jackson Hole in the late '90s. Over the years, he built a career, mentored new guides, and created a loyal client base. In 2011, he and Mark Fuller took over Jack Dennis' business and started Grand Teton Fly Fishing. 11:55 - Scott tells us about the waters they guide in western Wyoming. They cover Yellowstone National Park's lakes to Grand Teton National Park's Snake River headwaters. Scott says they customize trips based on how long guests stay and what they want to do. Fishing in Jackson Hole 15:41 - We hear about what fishing looks like throughout the year in Jackson Hole. Scott says they do a lot of drift boat fishing to cover large rivers like the Snake, but there's still plenty of wade fishing when the conditions are right. March to October is the best fishing season, with good hatches and fewer crowds. Early March is great for dry fly fishing, especially with midges and blue-winged olives. The peak fishing season starts in mid-June and continues in July through September. Fishing in September and October 23:20 - We talk about the fishing conditions in September and October. As the water cools down, the fishing gets better, with some great hatches like the Hecuba fly. Scott says this is also when the Jackson Hole One Fly event usually happens. 28:09 - Scott says that the Snake River is both forgiving for new anglers and challenging for experts. The Snake River is home to the Snake River Fine-Spotted Cutthroat, a subspecies of the Yellowstone cutthroat. 34:52 - Scott says that when he's guiding, he always looks for spots where fish are likely to be. The key is looking for subtle sips, usually signs of bigger fish feeding. 40:10 - If you're not seeing much action on the surface, Scott suggests switching to attractor patterns or terrestrials like beetles and ants. You can also add a dropper fly, but it might limit how close you can fish to the bank. Scott's Top 8 Fly Patterns 1. Small chubby (black, purple, tan) 2. Small black foam flies 3. Golden Stone Water Walker 4. Parachute Adams 5. Parachute Hare's Ears 6. Mercer's Missing Link 7. Callibaetis Flies 8. Small streamers Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/688

In this podcast episode, we caught up with Mark Fuller, IT Director for Bridge Academy Trust (BAT) – a multi academy trust based in Essex – about how they have extended Microsoft 365 with Cloud Box to improve communication and collaboration between their 12 schools.Bridge Academy Trust is a large MAT made up of four secondary schools and eight primary schools. Providing education to students 3-19, the Trust needed a solution that would not only enable collaboration between its schools but also allow each individual school to embrace blended learning in its own unique way.Following a merger, BAT found themselves managing ten different Microsoft 365 tenants across the trust – one for each of the schools and one for their central trust team:“We quickly realised that this approach was unsustainable. Our staff had several different logins to access what they needed. It was complex and time-consuming, and didn't promote any kind of collaboration or communication between our schools,” Mark explains.“To make everything simpler and to encourage more collaboration between our schools, we made the decision to merge all schools into one BAT tenant with the help of Cloud Design Box and their partners.”One of the key challenges when rolling out Microsoft 365 across BAT was that each school was at a very different stage in terms of blended learning.“Some of our secondary schools were already using the full suite of tools in Microsoft for teaching and learning. Meanwhile, other schools were only using it for email and storing some files in OneDrive,” Mark explains.“We also had a school using G Suite that we needed to migrate across and support them in using brand new blended learning tools.”Mark describes his approach when it came to encouraging user adoption of Cloud Box in each school. His first quick win is to set the school's SharePoint intranet as the default homepage:“This way, I've won half the battle because they're already using it. The page contains links the staff will find useful – timetables, web applications, finance forms, HR forms, policies etc,” Mark tells us.“When they open their computers, it's the first thing they see – they haven't got to start typing out the URL. It just makes navigation so much easier.”As they roll out, Mark is working with each school to introduce them to SharePoint and Teams and support them with user adoption.“I speak to staff and give them a brief demo of what SharePoint and Teams can do. I do live webinars and drop-in sessions using Microsoft Teams and record them so staff can watch later if they miss the live events,” he continues.“I have also created a training site within SharePoint for staff to access. This not only has my own resources on there, but I have links to the courses created by Cloud Design Box and Microsoft. There's no point in me re-creating what has already been done and they have saved me so much time.”Mark points out that it's important to recognise that each school, even if they are in the same trust, has very different needs and will use Microsoft 365 in different ways:“It's important we work with schools to create something that they will use, rather than telling them exactly how to use it. This has worked well, and we've had schools ask for all sorts of things, like a place to store all exam information and a site dedicated to assemblies,” Mark enthuses.Lastly, Mark has made himself available to answer questions for any school that needs it:“It can be a bit of information overload for some staff, so alongside the training and drop-in sessions, I have made myself available to answer questions from schools.”Support the show (https://www.clouddesignbox.co.uk)

Welcome to Season 6 chapter 117 of the Kids Entertainer Hub! Mark Fuller from Texas is our guest in this spectacular show. Today we talked about Mark's journey and how he transitioned from being a full-time bus driver to a full-time kids entertainer. Here are some of the important notes from this episode: Mark Fuller is a 60 year old kids entertainer, balloon twister from Texas. - Mark started 25 years ago as a volunteer for his Church ministry to raise money - He did that for 15 years but it was on and off and then he moved to a different place - About 10 yrs ago he moved to Texas and decided to go in deeply into balloons - While he was doing balloons he was also a bus driver - He loves being around kids and loves teaching them - In November 2018, his son Sam Fuller told him about the Balloon Artists Podcast and it opened a whole new world to him - Back in April something happened that made him go full-time on being an entertainer - He started doing balloon storytelling even in linework - Now that he’s no longer driving the bus, he’s got time to practice and focus on the things for stuff like marketing - Since he went full time, he feels healthier, more organized, well rested and lost weight - Mark is now looking forward to going to his first convention - “Magic like balloons... if you don’t practice you don’t get it down real quick and smooth” - Mark
Shot in black and white on a clockwork camera from the 1970s, the hand-development of its 16mm film resulting in scratches and unpredictable changes in exposure, and its soundtrack entirely post-synchronised, Mark Jenkin's Bait is audiovisually suffused with atmosphere and texture, and not a little dreamlike and weird to boot. It tells the story of Martin, a Cornish fisherman struggling to cope with the upheaval of both his region and his life specifically that results from an influx of middle-class settlers. He's sold his family's cottage to a family of outsiders, his brother now uses his fishing boat to take tourists on drunken stag parties, and Martin snarls and growls his way through dealing with these changes. It's clear that we're meant to see Martin as a hero, but he's tilting at windmills - though perhaps that's WHY he's a hero - and José argues that the film is deeply conservative, asking, for instance, why it's so bad that Martin's brother adapts to his changing environment by taking tourists on trips. Mike argues that the family of newcomers is too caricatured, so keen is the film for us to see them as invaders who fuck everything up, and thinks about the film's parochialism in the wider context of Brexit - the unfriendliness to outsiders displayed here speaks to anti-immigrant sentiment throughout the UK; is there a difference between the way the Cornish in Bait feel and the way Brexiters throughout the country feel? Perhaps there's a tension between the relative power and privilege of the "invaders" and "invaded" that we don't resolve, but in overly simplistic terms we don't emerge from the film feeling entirely on its side. Jenkin's cinematography and editing beautifully conveys what there is to love about Martin's way of life, concentrating on manual labour and his close-knit community. José suggests that the film looking the way it does makes it feel as though it's already an object from the past, with the romance, nostalgia and loss that goes along with it - just as it depicts the decline of its way of life. It also puts us in mind of Italian Neorealism, José bringing up Visconti's La terra trema, Mike thinking of De Sica's Bicycle Thieves, and we're indebted to Mark Fuller for offering a perspective on Bait's place within a tradition of similarly claustrophobic coastal dramas, such as Gremillon's The Lighthouse Keepers, Epstein's Finis Terrae, Flaherty's Man of Aran, and Powell's Edge of the World. Mike also considers the film's visual and tonal similarity to Aronofsky's Pi, thinking about how effectively that film places the audience in the main character's headspace, and suggesting that the visual design here does the same. Bait is a considerable film, one that speaks deeply to the loss of a certain way of life and the anger and resentment to which that leads. But the film doesn't appear keen for this resentment to be questioned, and we feel it needs to be. Recorded on 20th October 2019.
