Trump continues to be a horrible person by questioning VP Kamala Harris's race and skipping out on a debate - meanwhile, Harris readies her VP pick! It's not all politics though - we have M. Night Shymalan's TRAP, 90 Day Fiance, House of Dragons / Game of Thrones, and a little 2024 Paris Olympics for you!
This psychological horror film was written and directed by Ishana Shymalan in her directorial debut, produced by her father, M. Night Shymalan and is based on the 2022 novel of the same name. The movie stars Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campell, Olwen Fouere & Oliver Finnegan. In this film, an American woman gets lost in an Irish forest that is said to be haunted by mysterious and ancient creatures that cannot be seen in the daylight. The woman and 3 others are trapped in a glass room and are being “watched” by the creatures. Despite filming during the SAG-AFTA strike, the film completed production in late 2023 and hit theaters on June 7, 2024. M. Night Shymalan fell under heavy criticism for self-financing the film despite the studios' stance with the strike.
We couldn't get through Comicbook Month without adding a little Zack Snyder in the mix. In the late 2000's Snyder wasn't the contentious director that he has been made out to be today, and Watchmen was a heavily anticipated movie. In this episode Josh and Jesse will discuss whether that anticipation had been worth it.Before Watchmen there are a couple of trailers that had caught their attention. First we have the new thriller Trap by director M. Night Shymalan, which seems only fitting with him also being a very divisive director. Next we have the trailer for remake for Speak No Evil, and they'll be speaking on whether or not a remake was needed that quickly. Finally they couldn't go through comicbook month without talking the new Joker trailer. After that it's onto the main feature where the hosts will determine whether or not Watchmen is... a BLOODY GOOD FILM!We encourage everyone to watch along while you listen and make sure to comment and let us know what you think. This week, Swanson, Kiorein and Stairmaster discuss the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and what they look forward to with Hollywood back up and running. Later, the gang sit down and watch NBC's latest procedural Found and try to get on the show's batshit wavelength. ★ Support this podcast ★

Like an unpredictable virus variant, M. Night Shymalan returns to the big screen in under a calendar year, leaving the gang sullen. One Movie Master opens up about his Stockholm Syndrome-like relationship to the director and explains why M. Night is the Pearl Jam of movie theaters. Beyond this, the gang has questions about "Knock at the Cabin." Has Shyamalan not heard a real human conversation or had regular human interaction outside of his sets for the past 26 years? Is he just now hearing about homophobia? Is this film attempting to make a bigger political/societal statement? Hear theories on these questions and many more as the gang tries to determine if there's and "there" there or if it's just another impossibly boring offering from M. Night. "80 For Brady" is up next and it's no twist that the gang unapologetically loves what they are now referring to as SENIOR CINEMA. What's in the DNA that makes film like this, the recently-covered "Maybe I Do," and last year's surprise bop "Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris" so thoroughly enjoyable? Could Tom Brady ultimately hang with the chops of Rita Moreno, Sally Field, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Guy Fieri? Which cameo did your Movie Masters enjoy the most? "Living," a British remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Ikiru," closes out this week's watches. Ironically, the Movie Master who cites "Ikiru" as one of his top three films of all time wasn't able to catch the movie before it evaporated from the local theater. Fortunately, the other three all caught it in time and provide a thorough breakdown of what they experienced. In the news: how to ruin any whodunit or suspense/thriller movie for yourself and the gang runs through all current information about what to expect from the television and film offerings that will comprise chapter 1 of the new DCU. On this episode of DOD45 Tai & Adrienne chat with Blockhead. They discuss Blockhead's father's artwork and how he was in his 60s when Blockhead was born. They also discuss Blockhead's newest album with Aesop Rock, Garbology, playing basketball with the Beastie Boys, if it's buffalo wings or hot wings, how he signed with Ninja Tune, strip clubs and farmer's markets, Heterochromia and so much more....This is really the shit-talkin', ball-bustin' episode though. They throw some shade on M. Night Shymalan, Ice Cube, Rick Rubin, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jim Breuer, Kevin Hart, Martin Lawrence, Joe Rogan, Limp Bizkit and others, but all in good fun. Opinions fly in this episode, but they're just goofy opinions for a laugh, so don't get all bent if they knock someone you love. Tai also runs through his Spotify 2021 "year in review"...Hear who is top artist & top songs were. Sophie's Choice questions from this episode include: Tony Hawk or Tony Danza? This week we discuss the latest M. Night Shymalan movie, the death of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts and I play a snippet of my interview with Nicolas Cage.
Since we were 98% sure that we'd already done The Kissing Hand, this year's first day of school book came out 21 years ago. This book is huge with teachers and schools but isn't a book that won a lot of literary awards or anything. And with children heading back to school now, the timing could not be better. With its M. Night Shymalan-esque twist and fondness for slips and magenta clogs, this proves to be an excellent peek into the state of picture books circa 2000. Show Notes: So is it a Midwest thing for kids to go to school before Labor Day? Or are we just making this up? Betsy mentions that another book did the exact same twist in its storyline. That book was Back to School Tortoise, which came out in 2011. Happy Father's Day to all the emotionless fathers that force their sons to: A) Act in movies and B) Fight monsters that smell your fear…. We can relate! That's right, Reel Rotten is heading into the world's weirdest Venn Diagram where Will Smith & M. Night Shymalan combine and form After Earth (2013). A very bad movie that Nick, Stephen and special returning guest (AND NEW FATHER) Ted, get all the way into. The boys talk everything from how Ted would handle movie child situations, to what age he will let his daughter watch a rated R movie. Later, they determine their Top 5 father-son movies, talk the whole Smith family, and shockingly don't blame M. Night for once! Nick even formally apologizes for getting day drunk before the podcast recording. Shut up and listen up! Subscribe & Follow us! Two game changers for the horror genre. On this episode we have two highly popular movies battle it out. One directed by Jordan Peele, who goes from comedy to horror. The other is M. Night Shymalan. Finally, we give you, the listeners, the show you voted for – our review of the M. Night Shymalan movies, Split and Unbreakable. Along with Greig, Jared and Bryan discuss both films and Shymalan in general, before looking forward at his next now-highly-anticipated film, Glass. M. Night is a polarising filmmaker, and this podcast certainly had various degrees of opinion. We may have even accidentally stumbled on a potential spoiler for the future. What a twist! TWIST! TWIST! TWIST! M. Night Shymalan makes his (last?) entry on "ATM10" as we watch and review the controversial "film" The Village. Ryan Biech (@ryanbiech) joins me once again as he sets his sights on defending the movie... sort of. I attack the movie... sort of. It's a weird episode as we discuss the auteur's license, twist endings, Bryce Dallas Howard's hotness, Ripley's hotness and the proper term for Adrian Brody's issue. All that plus IMDB parent's guide, fun facts and awards. (NEXT WEEK: "Collateral")
