Next up is dessert (or breakfast) with Cinnamon Roast Crunch from Noble Ale Works. Get ready for some nostalgia. Greg went out for some beer research in the mountains and doesn't have much to report. He also ran roughshod on the beer pong table for the weekend. Deb brings up a fundamental question (especially with our love for 80s wrestling), what is everyone's entrance music? (Let us know!)We received a voicemail from a listener that spurred quite the controversy. Turns out Hawaii is not a fan of double fisting. Cinnamon Roast Crunch has a name so contrary to what you imagine a beer should be, that even our auto-correct is trying to change it to "Toast". The latest craft beer in the "Naughty Sauce" series from Noble Ale Works might seem a strange brew, but it evokes memories of breakfast cereal and Saturday Morning Cartoons. We don't know that this beer and a bowl of cereal is the perfect hangover cure (but it seems like the science would back it), but we do know this unique blend was a fun one to try. And knowing is half the battle! Dare from our beer crew: Try it in a bowl of cereal instead of milk. We don't want to do it, but we want someone to.

This week's featured artist is Allison Bamcat. An inspiring painter and muralist who comes to us with a positive perspective and love of her craft. We came to learn of her through work with Noble Ale Works and Collective Arts Brewing. Not only is her work full of energy, excitement and color, but her perspective and appreciation for life is infectious. Her story will inspire you to follow your dreams and be your truest self. We caught up with her in the midst of working on mural in LA and are better for it. A lot of times in life we look at things, jobs or experiences with wonder and a sense of question. Is this what makes me happy? Am I doing this for the right reasons? Money and comfort can be a driving force in many of the decisions and things we do in our lives, but it can't fill the void of following your heart. Allison is an amazing example of being true to haw she wanted her story to be written and what made her happy. She has found her new positive and appreciative self and is sharing it with all of us through her art and creativity. Her color palette is electric and turned all the way up. This interview comes at a great time and put a smile on my face. I know it will do the same for you. Have a great long weekend and enjoy. Pairs well with friends, family and positive vibes.

Steve & Joey head to Orange, CA’s parrot-bearing purveyor of pints, Green Cheek Beer Co. this week. Young in name only, this burgeoning brewery has the lineage of Noble Ale Works’ in its DNA, with the brewmaster jumping ship and buying the old Valiant Brewery building in Spring 2017. The industry experience definitely shows, with sophisticated and experimental offerings that focus mostly on the Hazy side of things, while still churning out high quality executions of other well-known varieties. The boys arrived just in time for the release of their newest New England Double IPA: the double dry hopped and pineapple/tangerine forward “More Spacier,” as well as a bevy of other brews for review: Guava Berlin Berliner Weisse, Gram Worthy Hazy Cream IPA, Chocolate Spumoni Chocolate Milkshake IPA, Nondescript Kolsch, Cherry Spumoni Cherry Milkshake IPA, Radiant Beauty West Coast IPA, Walter Hazy IPA w/ White Tea, and German for Dark dunkel bier. So does Green Cheek live up to the hype? Or does it need to step out of the spotlight with its green cheeks turning red with embarrassment? Let’s guzzle it over and find out!

Their 2nd Canniversary Triple Hazy IPA was a big hit, as were its variants, and the biggest (and most pleasant!) surprise was their wide variety of Lactose infused Cereal Beers, flavored with Apple Jacks, Golden Grahams, Froot Loops, Reese’s Puffs, Crunchberries, and Cocoa Pebbles. Nestled between the OC’s two major sports stadiums, Noble Ale Works’ popularity is on the rise. With consistent, limited releases of New England/Hazy/Juicy IPA’s like 48K Juice, Creature from the Murk Lagoon, and The Juice is Out There; as well as massive stouts like Whoomp! There It Is, 2017 has been this formerly solid, if a bit unexceptional, brewery’s second coming out party, with widely sought-after can releases powered by a new Head Brewer, and a hard-earned expansion to it’s facility and taproom coming soon. Does this recent spike of hype justify them as the noble ruler of the Anaheim, CA beer scene? Guzzle down with us to find out!

Season 3, Episode 7 – This week, homebrew from Four Brewers listener Michael Kirshner, and The Messenger from Noble Ale Works and Three Weavers Brewing Company. Can homebrews be whalez? This is the question that Four Brewers listener, Michael Kirshner, proposed to us in an email a few weeks ago. Personally speaking, I’ve definitely wanted to spear a few local homebrew whalez that have become legendary over the years, so yes, homebrew can indeed venture into the “whalez” territory. Thar Be Whalez! Michael was kind enough to send us some of his homebrew for the show this week and suffice to say, they are pretty over the top, as far as homebrew goes. The first beer up is a Flanders Red that was aged in a second use Buffalo Trace Barrel for five freakin’ years! What?! That’s some commitment.   [Direct YouTube Video Link]   Next up is quad that was brewed in March of 2014. This beer is a crowd favorite according to Mike, and rightly so. It’s delicious! The last beer from Michael is a Russian imperial stout made with oats and lactose sugar that was brewed in November of 2014 and aged for six months in a fresh Four Roses barrel. Michael wasn’t lying when he told us he was sending whalez…thar she blows! The Messenger We wrap up the show with an awesome collaboration beer between two stellar southern California breweries, Noble Ale Works and Three Weavers Brewing Company called, The Messenger. This beer was first brewed early in 2014. The Messenger is a seasonal release IPA coming in at 7.3% ABV, made with Weyermann pilsner malt and dry hopped with Pacific Jade, El Dorado, and HBC 342 hops. The bottle we have on the show this week was made with Buddha’s Hand and Yuzu to really give it a fruity, tropical zing. Thanks again to Michael Kirshner for the beers! BREW THE SHIT OUT OF IT. Season 2, Episode 17 – This week we’re on location at Noble Ale Works in Anaheim, California, the first of our three stops at three Orange County breweries. We’re back with another round of on-location episodes and this time, we’re focusing on the Orange County beer scene. The OC is very much up and coming, in terms of the excellent beers that are being produced, with breweries sprouting up all over the place from Brea to San Clemente. Brad Kominek (left) and Evan Price (right) Noble Ale Works is the first stop on our Session #16 road trip, and we’re hanging out with head brewer Evan Price, and lead brewer Brad Kominek. We start off with a porter served on cask that’s very near and dear to Evan’s heart, Porter Exporter. Evan and Brad recently returned from a trip to England where they visited many English pubs and breweries. The trip inspired them to get more into traditional English beer styles as well as cask ale. Noble has been serving cask beer for quite a while now, but this trip to England really inspired Evan and Brad to go even further with the cask ale and traditional English beer styles.  Mind The Cask Porter Exporter is actually a beer whose recipe was derived from a book that Evan is currently obsessing over, Ronald Pattinson’s The Home Brewer’s Guide to Vintage Beer: Rediscovered Recipes for Classic Brews Dating from 1800 to 1965. The use of brown malt is key to giving this beer its coffee overtones and dryness. Keeping with traditional, the beer was served on cask at 55ºF, and was a perfect beer to start our long day of recording. The next beer is somewhat legendary in the beer geek world, Noble’s “golden milk stout with coffee”, Naughty Sauce. Sounds weird, right? How can a stout be golden?! Inspired by a blonde ale brewed by Jonathan Porter when he was still brewing at Tustin Brewing Company, Evan set out to make a beer of his own that incorporated all of the flavor, body, and aroma of a coffee stout while maintaining a golden color. Naughty Sauce is served on nitrogen, which gives it a super-smooth mouthfeel and fluffy white head that sticks to the inside of the glass. It’s a beautiful beer, and is described by Evan as a very approachable beer to new craft beer drinkers. Evan Price pouring “We Saved Latin” We wrap up with a collaboration beer that Noble made with another Southern California brewery, and friend of Four Brewers, Monkish Brewing Company. Evan was really blown away by the awesome brettanomyces beers that Henry Nguyen was making at Monkish, and decided it was time to make one at Noble. Evan admits that this beer was successful mostly because Henry really knows how to work with brettanomyces, and was gracious enough to throw some knowledge Evan’s way. The beer was bottle conditioned with brettanomyces about a month ago, and the brett character is already starting to shine. The name of the beer is We Saved Latin, and is set to be released in a month or so. Big thanks to Evan and Brad for having us. Noble Ale Works has been killing it lately, and they are definitely worth checking out if you’re in or near Anaheim. They’re also within walking distance of the Honda Center and Angel’s Stadium. Four Brewers: Craft Beer and Homebrew

Season 2, Episode 9 - This week, we’re going back to the hops with homebrew from Nagel and hoppy radness from Noble Ale Works, Alpine Brewing, and Societe Brewing Company. Now that we’re all fully recovered from last week’s epic stout tasting, we’re back with a homebrew from Greg, and some beers from some of SoCal’s best breweries: Noble Ale Works, Alpine Beer Company, and Societe Brewing Company. We kick the show off with a unique homebrew from Greg that’s kind of saison, and kind of a pilsner. Weird, right? The beer was intended to be a saison, and technically speaking, it is. It was brewed with Belgian pilsner and rye malts, and fermented with White Labs WLP568 Saison yeast. What makes this beer different was the utilization of whole leaf Saaz hops. The beer was bittered with Nelson Sauvin in the boil, while the Saaz hops were used in a custom hopback made by Greg. The Saaz come through so much in this beer that it’s reminiscent of a Czech pilsner. All in all, it’s a tasty, easy drinking beer and an example of how experimentation with homebrewing can lead to unintended, yet interesting results. Hoppy Brews from Noble, Alpine, and Societe Next up is yet another attempt to convince Matt that Sorachi Ace hops aren’t just extract from an old lady’s perfume bottle, Noble Ale Works Sorachi Ace Showers. Matt was given this beer from the brewer himself, Evan Price. If you aren’t familiar with the “Showers” line of beers, it’s a series that Noble Ale Works has been doing for quite a while now, that focuses on one specific hop. This beer is a great example of how to utilize the characteristic of this hop. The malt profile on the beer has a unique, malty, savory flavor, almost like candy, and the hops back it up with a balanced, lemony bitterness. This beer doesn’t smack you in the face, and it’s quite refreshing. Interestingly enough, Matt kind of digs the beer, while Jason is simply not a fan. Thanks for the beer, Evan! To: Matt, Love: Evan (Price) The next two beers are from Alpine Beer Company. Jason picked up a couple of growlers from Green Flash Brewing Company, who is now brewing Alpine beers at their facility in San Diego, California. Alpine Beer Company is a very small brewpub out of Alpine, California who is known for their spectacular beers, most notably their hoppy beers. They were recently purchased by Green Flash Brewing Company to help expand the brand, get the beers to a bigger market, and help Alpine Beer Company keep making the truly unique brews that they are so well known for. The two beers we have on this episode, Hoppy Birthday and Nelson, are two classics from Alpine. Both of these were brewed at Green Flash, which in comparison to Alpine’s brewhouse, is enormous. There are certain recipe scaling issues that come about when stepping up a beer to a production run of this size. We discuss those issues on the show, and whether or not these beers are truly accurate iterations of the beer Alpine is known for. Alpine Beer Company – Nelson The final beer of this episode is The Miser from Societe Brewing Company, by way of our good friend and “Ruler of the Underworld” at Societe, Mike Sardina. This beer is made with Amarillo, Simcoe, Mosaic and El Dorado hops, and boy does it show on the nose. This beer smells absolutely delish. Coming in at 10% ABV, the body on this beer is really nice, and not just a vehicle for hop delivery. Societe very much prides themselves on making a unique, quality product, and it really shows in this beer. Expect an on-location episode from Societe in the near future… BREW THE SHIT OUT OF IT. Season 1, Episode 30 - Happy holidays, everyone! This week, it’s all about the holiday brews. Damn, these last few months have gone by fast! It’s already that magical time of year when you stress out over the perfect gifts to give your friends and family, freak out at your Uncle’s twisted viewpoints on the latest controversial news topics, watch grandpa fall asleep at 4:30pm, and crack open your favorite holiday brews. This week, John Ryti and Tim “Showtime” Ryan join us for the last time in 2014, and we’re opening some…wait for it…holiday brews!  Ken Schmidt / Iron Fist Brewing Company Collaboration We kick the show off with a beer that’s not necessarily a holiday beer, but was brewed by a local beer celebrity of sorts, who is actually quite jolly. We’re talking about none other than San Diego, California’s own Ken Schmidt. He got together with Iron Fist Brewing Company out of Vista, California, and made a chocolate mint stout, appropriately named Chocolate Mint Stout, that’s quite fitting for the season. Ken’s a great guy, and you can’t miss him in public–he’s always sporting his short pants, a Hawaiian shirt, and a big smile. Next up is a pretty rad tasting of some vintage Our Special Ale from Anchor Brewing Company, specifically the years 1995, 1996, and 2005. Jason picked these up at Stuffed Sandwich a while back, and he graciously donated them to the show.  Anchor Brewing Company – Our Special Ale Our Special Ale is a beer that changes slightly from year to year. The recipe tends to be a little different, but is always reminiscent of the previous years it’s been brewed. The final two beers on the show are from some local SoCal breweries. First up is Noble Ale Works‘ You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid! which is a winter warmer made with organic apple cider. Beer nerds tend to have mixed feeling when is comes to apples in beer, generally because “apple flavor” is usually considered to be an off-flavor, but that’s not always the case. Noble Ale Works and Karl Strauss Brewing Company The final beer is from Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Five Wee Heavy Bells. Karl Strauss has been following the 12 Days of Christmas theme, and this is the fifth release in the series. Karl’s holiday beers are usually some of their best yearly releases, and this brew is no exception. The show tends to dip in and out of the good ol’ “third show syndrome”, but we hold it together and don’t embarrass ourselves too much. I guess one could say that we’re like those dudes at a holiday party that are having a bit more fun than everyone else. Le sigh… Oh yeah…If you’re feeling the holiday spirit and would like to show your love for the show, please considering become a Patron at our Patreon page. XOXOXO  So, yeah.
