Former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell finally agreed to accept a plea deal from prosecutors in Georgia, the day before her criminal trial was set to begin. This means that Powell will not face prison time even after pleading guilty to numerous misdemeanors. The punishments are relatively weak, but that could mean that she has valuable information to share about her fellow co-defendants, which she is now legally obligated to provide at their trials.And as he was leaving court for his fraud trial on Wednesday, Donald Trump declared a victory of sorts, saying that he had a "Perry Mason" moment where his legal team allegedly got a slam dunk against one of their own witnesses. The truth is that Trump and his team were actually scolded by the judge for their behavior, and the judge went as far as to say that he doesn't care if they got the witness to commit perjury. Farron  explains what happened and why it was anything but a victory for Trump.Also, New York Attorney General Letitia James is demanding access to Trump Organization emails after Forbes revealed that they have emails from former Trump CFO Allen Weisselberg that could prove he committed perjury in court. James is taking this very seriously, and if she can prove it, it would cause Weisselberg's parole to be revoked, thereby sending him back to prison. Farron explains what's happening and why this could be further bad news for Donald Trump. And finally, Donald Trump's lawyer John Lauro made a significant mistake in a court filing this week that caused the judge to have to temporarily reject it. It turns out that Lauro is not a member of the District Bar for Washington, D.C., so the judge was forced to not accept his motion of appeal for the gag ruling placed on Trump on Monday by Judge Tanya Chutkan. This is a problem that can be quickly remedied, but it shows the complete lack of competence that Trump's lawyers are operating with.

But the real headline coming out of Judge Tanya Chutkan's courtroom is her vow not to alter the start date of the Subversion Trial: March 4, 2024. This means it doesn't get postponed beyond the election and it also SEEMS as if she is taking the idea of starting it early as a punishment for WHEN Trump violates the gag order off the table. If that's the case - and she's promised a full written statement detailing the "sanctions" if he doesn't seal his lips closed with epoxy - then there are few options for her. She can fine him, or jail him. And even if she goes for the first one he'll eventually do it so many times she'll have no choice but to go to the second one. REVOKE. HIS. BAIL. Trump already began testing the boundaries, and trying to see if he can get his Renfields to carry his water for him. And there were many tea leaves from the hearing to read - and all of them look bad for your favorite traitor. Plus I have some stuff on the Jordan Speaker vote and Israel-Hamas. But the story that actually stuns me was one I thought I saw coming. As predicted here, the other shoe after NBC going soft on Trump on The Meet The Press interview has fallen: NBC gets the 3rd Republican Presidential debate. But they have debate "partners" including the appalling Rumble (Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate claim homes there) and Salem Radio (Charlie Kirk, Dinesh D'Souza, Jenna Ellis, Hugh Hewitt). Hewitt may be a co-moderator. Where are NBC's liberals here? When is enough enough? How much money is enough for my old protege to say "I refuse to be associated with any of this. Drop it or I'm out." I took a stance like that and I sleep well every night because of it. Rachel Maddow's voice still matters here and she's not using it. SEASON 2 EPISODE 23: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Two major developments today warranting a bulletin edition: Judge Tonya Chutkan has set the start of jury selection in the Trump Subversion of the Election trial in Washington for March 4. Trump is, as I predicted this morning, EFFED. He's SO effed he's already insisting he will appeal her decision, proving he doesn't even know there is no legal means FOR him to appeal it. He is SO effed. Meanwhile in Atlanta, his former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows seems hell bent on confessing to everything - including crimes he hasn't been charged with - just to get the trial moved from state to federal court. He actually took the stand this morning and admitted to everything on the Raffensberger call (and I think I called him Ken in here. Ken pitched for the Phillies in 1954). Also: the first signs of life are appearing in the attempt to actually DO something about disqualifying Trump from the ballot under the Disqualification Clause of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. After another mass shooting - one predicated on distinct and undeniable racism - shock and grief and rage can account for almost any reaction. But as Governor Ron DeSantis, who trades in distinct and undeniable racism and who had the gall to insist HBCUs in Florida would not be targeted when one was targeted Saturday, attended a vigil last night for the victims in Jacksonville, the crowd rightly booed and heckled him and his inanely smiling wife. And the local Democratic councilwoman made an unbelievable mistake. She told the crowd to "put parties aside. A bullet don't know a party." She could not be more wrong. A bullet not only knows a party but the bullets are there BECAUSE of a party and we damn well better say so. We have mass shootings and we have nearly unfettered civilian access to weapons of war and we have an orgy of gun worship BECAUSE of Republicans. Period. Our gun crisis may not be 100% Republican but it's 95%. Our awareness that at any moment, anywhere, anyone in this country could be murdered by sentient fecal matter and the only variables are which minority group THIS one murdered because of which Republican THIS one listened to, waxes and wanes. But there are four unswerving constants and they played out in Jacksonville over the weekend: they had the guns because of Republicans; if they didn't have the HATE already they got IT because of Republicans; nearly all of our news media will refuse to say that mass shootings in this country are the unquestioned FAULT of Republicans, and no matter what the circumstances of this particular one were, Republicans will insist it's too soon to – you know – try to STOP them from happening and to propose – you know – SOLUTIONS – is trying to exploit a tragedy for political gain. As opposed to trying to exploit a tragedy for donations from the National Rifle Association and making sure that nothing is ever, ever, done, to stop the next one. Trump's other spawn, Vivek Ramaswamy, spent Sunday morning insisting that Mike Pence he should've refused to certify Biden's election until the Senate agreed to instantly instituted new laws to mandate the most draconian Republican talking points about voting suppression: single-day elections, paper ballots, government-issued ID's, and quote “led through that level reform and then under that condition certified the election” – as if every moment of the political day is a hostage situation and every law is optional because Vivek Ramaswamy sees a loophole to exploit.  Happily that performance on "Meet The Press" earned Ramaswamy the coveted endorsement of one viewer: O.J. A dejected Sean Hannity admitted during his Fox News program last week that the Republican Party might actually be getting too extreme. But he wasn't fully willing to embrace that reality, he's just sad that Ohio voters overwhelmingly rejected a Republican proposal that would have made it harder to enshrine abortion rights in the state's constitution. Hannity seems to finally understand that this is a losing issue for Republicans.Also, Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama is now facing allegations that he's actually just a "carpetbagger" due to the fact that records show he owns multiple properties in Florida. In fact, in 2017 he admitted on social media that he was moving permanently to Florida, and his current address is listed at a Florida residence. If that is his LEGAL residence, he would be disqualified from serving as a Senator from Alabama.And finally, Donald Trump's lawyer John Lauro has been out and about all over the media in the last week, and special prosecutor Jack Smith has taken notice. That's from Will Baude, Faculty Director of the Constitutional Law Institute at the University of Chicago Law School, and member of the ultra-conservative FEDERALIST SOCIETY, and former clerk for Chief Justice Roberts. He was summarizing, for The New York Times, an article he and Professor Michael Stokes Paulsen will publish next year in the University of Pennsylvania law review. They insist that there is no doubt Trump has triggered the disqualification aspect of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, and that it should be applied automatically by State Secretaries of State. “Section 3's disqualification rule may and must be followed – applied, honored, obeyed, enforced, carried out – by anyone whose job it is to figure out whether someone is legally qualified to office.” The Federalist Society constitutional scholars say it's automatic. If you put Trump on the ballot, you are breaking the law. And as academic and theoretical and dilettantish as this all sounds, these guys think it should be made really real: “There are many ways that this could become a lawsuit presenting a vital constitutional issue that potentially the Supreme Court would want to hear and decide,” said Professor Paulsen. And Paulsen is a distinguished university chair and professor of Constitutional Law and Federal Courts at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. And Steven Calabresi, co-chairman of the Federalist Society, co-founder and co-chairman of the Federalist Society, says the Baude-Paulsen article is “a tour de force" that proves “Trump is INELIGIBLE TO BE ON the ballot, and each of the 50 state secretaries of state has an obligation to print ballots without his name on them,” unquote – or they may be SUED. There could be enough to knock Trump off the ballot in individual states. And with Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) having successfully sued to remove a January 6th insurrectionist from office in New Mexico, there is a guidebook to how to literally stop Trump before he starts. Judge Aileen Cannon might have made an error so egregious in a ruling on Monday that the Department of Justice may have clear grounds to call for her recusal from the case. The judge decided to reveal the existence of a second grand jury that was still conducting investigations into the documents scandal, even though the DOJ had filed this information, along with other intelligence, under seal - but Cannon made it all public anyway.Also, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell doesn't appear to think before he speaks, and that could get his good friend Donald Trump into trouble. Lindell suggested this week that Donald Trump will end up getting more votes in the 2024 election than there are people, which could only be done by way of fraud. But that's what Lindell says will happen if Trump keeps getting indicted because Lindell swears that Trump's popularity is going through the roof. And finally, Donald Trump is reportedly angry at his newest lawyer, John Lauro, because Lauro isn't going along with Trump's plan to get judge Tanya Chutkan removed from his trial. Lauro has been going across the media world making Trump's problems worse by accidentally "admitting" to some crimes and offering a weak defense of others, but that doesn't seem to bother the former President. What bothers Trump is that Lauro will not make a preemptive motion to remove the judge - a move Lauro knows will fail. This showdown could lead to problems for Trump.

Donald Trump spent his evening on Sunday attacking his former Vice President, Mike Pence, over Pence's recent statement about being willing to testify against Trump, if he is called to do so. Trump had an absolute meltdown and attacked the former VP, even though he has been expressly forbidden by the courts from attacking potential witnesses. Also, Mitch McConnell experienced something over the weekend that he's never experienced before: A crowd of his supporters heckling him during a speech. Following his recent malfunction during a press conference - and all of the revelations about his poor health that followed - McConnell was met with a chorus of people chanting "retire" as he tried to deliver a simple speech on friendly grounds. Then, they're joined by Micha and get started by discussing Micha's journey and struggle with her own mental health, and how those experiences shaped her reporting and scholarship that went into "Mad World." She then discusses some of the history behind how mental health issues and other characteristics of people's gender & sexuality, their marital status, among other things were traced as pathologies for people's mental state in a way to categorize and stigmatize them, as opposed to identifiers and signifiers of someone's emotional and mental state that were simply lived experiences within the context of their personal lives. Micha, Sam and Emma also discuss how the idea of "stress" and the struggle with mental health within society, especially under global capitalism, is extremely individualized, as opposed to an idea of approaching stress as something systematized and baked into the trappings of labor, incarceration, homophobia, and other issues within and without the workplace. They discuss the history of asylums within the UK and how that, and how "mad" people or people suffering from "madness", paralleled that of how mentally ill people were treated in the U.S. as well. Emma brings up this idea of mental health "awareness" and how awareness of the vitality of mental healthcare has been completely saturated without any tangible approach to actual policy that would mitigate the structures and circumstances that exacerbate people's mental health struggles, the ones that require that so-called "awareness". And in the Fun Half, Sam and Emma discuss Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's recent comments about military action against Palestinians, something Sam referred to as "Praise-To-Slay", before diving into Steven Crowder's advertisement (featuring the Majority Report!) promoting a great" Re-Platforming" that's coming up tomorrow. I open today's show with a bit of a side-trail into how a three-legged stool relates to our own personal health and well-being. As human beings, we are innately wired for a belief system. When we take away a belief in a higher power or plane, it will be replaced with something else. That's what we see with the Church of Climatology. It has it's faith, it's worshipers, it's acolytes and it's tithing. But that wasn't the main focus of today's show. The first news item I dive into rebuts a Tweet from form Clinton-ite, David Axelrod. He claims Joe Biden cannot be behind the DOJ's persecution of Donald Trump. The only problem with that is it completely ignores the Biden insiders and confidants who told the New York Times the exact opposite. To show you have intellectually vacant much of the Legacy/mainstream media is today, I use a CBS story on the Devon Archer testimony. It's a perfect illustration of what we see when a rare bit of actual journalism, brought by Catherine Herridge, runs up against the anchorette of the Evening News, Anne-Marie Green. This leads to a great tweet put out by Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) who is now 3 for 3 in aiding the Republicans in showing just how weaponized and two-tiered our justice system has become. While trying to be cute and clever, pointing out four areas where Trump committed a crime, all he ends up doing is proving this regime is criminalizing the First Amendment. They want to silence all opposition to state narratives and the Bill of Rights keeps getting in the way. In a whiny attempt to keep Donald Trump from being able to communicate about his J6 case, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith filed a request to keep him from speaking. This was on Saturday. On the same day, the judge gave the Trump team until 6PM Monday to respond. Normally, something like this would have the standard two week runway, but not for Trump. Even a request to extend the deadline was denied. So, Trump lawyer, John Lauro appeared on Fox News Sunday to address the request and how this is a First Amendment battle being waged. As a reminder of the Ukraine situation, presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy asks if our current foreign policy is being dictated by the relationship Hunter, and by extension, the Biden Crime Family had with the country. NBC News mocked his tweet, which only leads me to ask, why isn't worth investigating? Why is that premise immediately dismissed? With all we know and have seen corroborated, it seems like a logical line of inquiry to me. Finally, we end with Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) who thinks we are missing just how brilliant and amazing our Vice President is. On this day in legal history, August 4, 1735, a significant victory for the free press was achieved in the United States. Publisher John Peter Zenger was acquitted of libel charges against New York's colonial governor, William Cosby, in a case that became a landmark moment for American liberty. The New-York Weekly Journal, printed by Zenger, had consistently criticized Governor Cosby, leading to various attempts by the governor to shut down the paper. When two grand juries failed to indict Zenger, Cosby resorted to a legal tactic called an "information" to bring Zenger before the court. The case took an unexpected turn when famed colonial lawyer Andrew Hamilton took up Zenger's defense, arguing that the crown had to prove the statements were false. The case, which Trump's legal team is prepared to "vigorously" defend, marks the third criminal case against him, with a potential fourth indictment tied to election interference in Georgia. During the 30-minute hearing, Trump personally stated his not guilty plea, and the next hearing was scheduled for August 28. Trump's lawyer, John Lauro, expressed the intention to seek a delay in the proceedings, citing the "magnitude" of the case. Meanwhile, prosecutor Thomas Windom assured that the government was ready to turn over substantial evidence and called for a "normal order" in the case.
