Do Business. Do Life. — The Financial Advisor Podcast — DBDL
If there's one thing that can ruin a great team, it's getting compensation wrong.I've seen it happen over and over—advisors accidentally overpaying, then having to backtrack (and losing their best people). Or underpaying, and wondering why top talent isn't sticking around. In this solo episode, I'm breaking down the 3 biggest compensation mistakes I've seen independent financial advisors make, and how to fix them before they cost you your best hires. If you want to build a team that scales with you, attracts A-players, and doesn't require endless hiring and firing, this episode is for you.3 of the biggest insights from the episode …#1.) Stop Compensating for Today—Start Planning for TomorrowMost advisors set comp structures based on current needs, not where their business is going. The result? A structure that doesn't scale, overpays some roles, and causes resentment among the team. Learn how to future-proof your pay model before it's too late.#2.) Match Compensation to the Role—Not the PersonIf you're deciding pay based on an individual, not the job, you're setting yourself up for chaos. I'll break down why comp should be role-based, scalable, and fair, no matter how many team members you add.#3.) Your Compensation Plan is Only as Strong as Your Training ModelHiring a great advisor? That's step one. But if you don't have a structured training track, you're setting them up to fail. I'll share how to mirror your comp plan with training, so new hires can ramp up fast and start producing sooner.SHOW NOTEShttps://bradleyjohnson.com/106FREE GIFT + JOIN THE DBDL INSIDER CREWToday's Gift: 30 minute 1:1 coaching call with BradAre you a financial advisor who feels stuck, needs help, or simply wants to have a conversation with Brad? The Tucker Carlson Show Key Takeaways The state of bewilderment that we are currently living through is beneficial to those in power because it grants them more control Those in power benefit from bewilderment, conflict, and chaos because it is easier to assert authority in these environments When a state of crisis benefits those in power, you can expect a perpetual state of crisis The state attempts to emulate the characteristics of God: omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, and glory “Secularism is all well and good, as long as the state doesn't behave like a god.” – Russell Brand If you have a deep need for God, then be careful because the culture will try to fill that desire with false gods such as drugs, alcohol, money, and fameSee every person that you come across as a human being; be open to the idea that God is trying to speak to you through another personIf our communities are guided by God, then it is more likely that we will create communities, states, nations, and a planet of peace and prosperityfrom the bottom up, and not from the top down While technology has created the possibility of further decentralization of power, crises are being used to legitimize decentralization; those in power prefer the trajectory of totalitarianism and technological feudalism under the peculiar veil of kindness and protection Protection and control exist on a continuum; this dynamic is fine for a parent who is looking after her child, but not for a state and its people Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgTucker Carlson Live Tour in Phoenix, AZ. A lot of pastors think online preaching doesn't matter that much. They're focused on getting real people into their real churches — not some cyber-campus in the Metaverse. But here's what many pastors don't realize: online sermons are their church's welcome center. Here's how people “visit” churches today:They find you onlineThey watch a sermon or twoIf they like your sermons, they visit in personIf they don't, they seek out another church. Or worse – they give up on church altogether. The stakes are high. The future of your church and your preaching ministry depends on your ability to communicate online. That's where David Murrow can help.RESOURCES:DavidMurrow.comContact Mike Hatch: mhatch@clchq.orgOrder Mike's book, Manhood: Empowered by the Light of the GospelManhood: Empowered by the Light of the Gospel [AUDIO BOOK]Join the Empowered Manhood Facebook GroupCLC Website: https://www.clchq.org/BiblicalLeadership.comContact Chris Bolinger: https://chrisbolinger.com/author/Chris' Devotionals:Daily Strength for Men: A 365-Day Devotional52 Weeks of Strength for Men
This is a perfect episode to start the new year with! It's about something oh so simple but also oh so big. I love, and I live this. I wonder what you think about it. Let me know! My dear ones out there, let me take the chance to wish you a wonderful, good start to the New Year! It's going to be a good year; I feel it. I will be back in your ear at the end of January. Until then I will be on an adventure far away. Take care of yourself and until very soon! For now, enjoy your day! Bye! Yours, AnnAHere is a little outtake: "Time is all about moments. In the end, it's all there is. The memory of experienced moments. And as I always say, the moments are everywhere—all the time. We need to have an adjusted pace to see them. I celebrate the moments. This one, for example. I am sitting in my office. Candles lit. Nice smooth music in the background. I am wearing warm, thick socks. I'm drinking a nice chai latte - made by myself. The doggies are lying next to me, sleeping deeply. It's a beautiful moment. Later, I step into the next moment, aligning up to this one, but at the moment, I am fully in this one. Present." Here is a little outtake: "When those anniversaries, special holidays or milestones arrive, we are reminded who isn't here anymore. I can't stop thinking that it is the second Christmas without Dad. It's like with every date I look at - automatically, I think that that was before or after his death. The intensity of memories wakes up again. Thoughts like "he would have done this" and "he would be excited about that" - are popping up constantly. And yes, I wish I could be more thankful for my time with Dad, believe me. I am and will work on it until I'm there. But I also don't want to feel ashamed when there are times when I just want to be able to say: I am sad. And I miss him so much." Let's go to a very special place... a place for high performance. A place where time doesn't matter. A place that's ecstatic. The Flow Zone. Here is a little outtake: "My dear listener, you know that place. It's like being in love. Or on a drug, maybe? It's ecstatic. And we know that flow is associated with releasing all the happy neurotransmitters, especially dopamiiiiine. The funny fact is that the theta brainwaves are fully on when you are in the flow. The theta brainwaves are the ones you feel during the states of insight, inspiration, creativity, meditation and relaxation. Somehow, the paradox: you are in the mode of fully on - and still relaxed. But you lose the awareness of your surroundings. Time? No, there is no time. The brain becomes more efficient in processing information and executing actions relevant to the activity. This mental state, ladies and gentlemen, releases high performance. If I had a team - one of my goals would be to allow people to get in that state whenever needed. No doubt. I want to ask you: When was the last time you visited your flow zone?"Duration: 12 minutes Enjoy and share this episode with just one person if you like it. Subscriber-only episodeOn the 24th of November 2021 (one year ago 2 days from today, if you're listening on release day), i left my marriage home and went back to live with my parents. I officially began the divorce process in April of 2022, and now, one year later, i am officially a divorcé (although, i have my reservations against the word–the title–the box ‘Divorcé').But here i am, a year later and having finally gained enough perspective to talk about this topic with you. Because since my own experience with this very unique kind of loss, my eyes have been opened to see that i am far from being the only one. Divorce has been the only option for so many people who have had to silence their voices to avoid the added pressure of social stigma, at a time when their hearts were already broken and reeling enough. Countless individuals have found themselves in this same impossible situation, and have had to hide their faces and cover their stories to avoid shame in order to maintain a place in society. But divorce is much bigger than society. Much more profoundly individual and life-changing (not to mention absolutely traumatizing).I realize i've been given a voice, and i would like to dedicate the next three episodes of the Being Aloud podcast to the topic of divorce, in the hopes that maybe someone will see that they don't need to suffer alone, and that the rights to their divorce story are only theirs. I want to discuss this topic also because i really needed this conversation when it felt as though i was drowning in a raging sea all by myself. I needed someone to come at me from the future with language my broken heart could actually understand.Disclaimer: I will NOT be sharing the details of my divorce story. So in today's episode, we discuss: The original definition of the word "quit" and how that can change our perception of the difficult choiceA fundamental pillar of lasting marriages: both people's willingness to set their egos aside and become selfless for the other personIf you like this podcast, please leave a review, like, share, and subscribe. We've all heard, "First impressions matter." Calling your office to schedule an appointment is your patient's first interaction with you and your practice. That call defines whether the patient schedules an appointment. And, their attitude toward future interactions with you and your office. Today, Zed Williamson from TrackableMed joins me to discuss how your staff can improve the impression patients get when they call your office. One of the most valuable suggestions is to train your staff to answer the phone with a full-on smile. Now this may seem silly but if you try it you'll see the difference in the tone of your voice.Between automated phone attendants and online scheduling tools, patients have precious little interaction with your office. Those initial few words of greeting can make or break your success. Other valuable tips from this episode include:Call your own office as a secret shopperHave calls answered by a live personIf someone is put on hold, tell them how long it will beFill the dead space so they know they're still connectedAs you'll hear, "First impressions" do matter. Listen to this episode to learn what steps you need to have your staff take to get that patient's needs addressed and loving your practice. After spending years in advertising, Zed Williamson founded TrackableMed in 2011, a patient demand acceleration platform rooted in neuroscience. Zed grew frustrated by the lack of accountability in the advertising industry and started TrackableMed to focus on results. Today, you can find him reading, spending time with his wife and teenage sons, and running a highly innovative business that helps private practices create patient demand for their therapies.https://www.trackablemed.com/patient-engagement-solutionsIf you'd like to hear more tips on how to start, run and grow your practice and related medical businesses, please sign up for my newsletter at https://www.thepracticebuildingmd.com. The presentation or pitch Q and A - a common way to finish but one that is often overlooked in its importance. The presentation or pitch Q&A is a great opportunity to re-emphasise some of your key points but is often wasted through poor or non-existent planning in advance by the presenter. So here are 6 tips for a better presentation or pitch Q&A:1. Talk the organiser through your Q&A planAlmost always presenters leave the Q&A plan to the organiser. Don't do this. Instead discuss with the organiser how you would like the Q&A to run and that you want to run it not them. If you're in charge of taking the questions it will be easier for you to keep your presentation or pitch momentum flowing. 2. Q&A before your summaryUsually the presenter finishes with the delivery of their rousing summary and then the Q&A begins. No one asks any questions, the whole things goes flat and the audience leave, as does the presenter, feeling a bit deflated. Avoid that by having the Q&A before your rousing finish. Try it. It works really well because this simple change means the Q&A is no longer the last thing your audience hear from you. Once the Q&A gets moving time can quickly disappear so don't forget you've still got your rousing summary / finish to deliver so ensure you have sufficient time left to do that. 3. Prepare a couple of rhetorical questionsIt's not a great feeling as a presenter if you've put everything into your presentation and then the Q&A comes along and no-one asks any questions. Counter this by preparing in advance a couple of questions to ask yourself - and make them about the key points from your pitch or presentation, that then gives you the opportunity to re-emphasise those key points. For example I might say; 'Ladies and Gentlemen whilst you are thinking of a question to ask me the one I most asked during a Q&A is 'what is the best way to practice a presentation?' - you then answer your own question. I think you can do this twice. If at that point no one still has any questions swiftly go into your rousing finish noting that you've probably gained a couple a couple of minutes that weren't used in the Q&A. 4. Don't interrupt but be ready to interruptTry and avoid interrupting someone's question. It can be annoying if you do that. Many presenters are so eager to answer a question they jump in before the question has been fully asked. Don't do that unless... the question asker is taking an age to ask a question which is not good news if you've only got a few minutes for a Q&A. 5. Don't spend too long answering questions This happens a lot. Presenters love talking so when they are asked a question there is a tendency to spend too long answering it. Give a succinct answer and take the next question. I recently was on a networking call and asked someone to confirm the name of their company. They decided that was an invitation to talk for about three minutes when three seconds would have done! 6. Park a question or personIf someone asks a question that is not relevant politely but firmly park it and move on to the next question. If you don't know an answer simply say ‘I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question'. But then agree to find out the answer and contact them after the presentation or pitch. Its a great way to re-connect post event. If the same person keeps asking questions, park them!If would like the chance to be sent by me a copy of my book : 12 Business Lessons from Running and UltraMarathon simply leave a review for the podcast, take a

Jade speaks with Lisa Wells, award-winning poet, essayist and author. In her new book, Believers: Making A Life At The End of the World, Lisa seeks out and learns from trailblazers and outliers around the world who are pursuing radically hopeful lifestyles -- even in the face of climate despair. There's so much to glean from this conversation: stories and lessons from those living the change, the treasures that await outside the norm, the beauty of bird language, the mess and wonder of non-tech-mediated human relationships and how to sow a fruitful future. As Lisa puts it, it can take a lifetime to learn how to live -- but hearing from others who have made an art and science of living like tomorrow matters sure helps speed up the process. Today we're going to be sharing 5 tips to help you determine and validate whether or not you're getting a brand partnership in your inbox or a SCAM. Have you ever received an email from a brand asking to collaborate with you, but you aren't sure whether or not it's a scam? Tip # 1: Before you hit reply, make sure the brand is a real companyStep 1 in figuring out whether or not it's a brand collaboration or a scam is to verify that it's coming from a real company. Here are a few easy ways to determine if it's a real company or not:1. Ask yourself if you've personally heard of this company before? There are new brands and businesses emerging every day. If you've seen on a Hulu commercial or heard them on a podcast ad, the brand is probably legitimate. You should continue to do checks to see if this is a real brand or not.2. Do a Google Search. By doing a simple Google Search, you'll find the company's website, LinkedIn page, social channels, and any news articles if they've been written about or mentioned in media. 3. Check the brand on social media channels. If this is truly a new brand looking to build their business, they would have at least one social media channel. Check to see if they have a Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Tip #2 Make sure the email is coming from a real personIf you aren't sure whether or not this person emailing you is real, you can look the person up on LinkedIn or do a quick Google search on their name. You might also be able to find them on social media. Additionally, if the person or company emailing you has tons of spelling errors and grammatically mistakes, this is a huge red flag. In this episode, I talk about coaching by briefly explaining what coaching is, answering some common questions about coaching and finally, tackling some coaching misconceptions.Key TakeawaysCoaching is different from mentoring and consultingTo find a good coach you should start by understanding your needs, use your network, and evaluate potential coaches on their ability to help you achieve the outcome you are looking forCoaching does work - it needs a good coach and a coachable personIf you are serious about achieving your goals and putting in the hard work, then coaching could be good for youCoaching brings new perspective, helps you set your direction, holds you accountable, improves your self-awareness, and helps you adapt to and drive changeCoaching is not the same as therapy or counsellingCoaching does not take a lot of timeCoaching is not only for people with problemsCoaching is collaborative and not "done to you"Coaches don't need to have a similar background to youA coach doesn't need to be a sports star to coach as a sports starCoaching is not a luxury Resources MentionedInternational Coaching FoundationAssociation for CoachingI spoke about the Miracle of Brighton, with Japan beating South Africa in the Rugby World Cup in 2015. Today's topic stems from a realization we had that although we have had our feelings hurt throughout dating, we have never had our hearts broken & that's probably because we have never been in love before. Here's the tweet that sparked the episode. ( https://twitter.com/wecomefromqns/status/834496223872745476 )In this episode we are going to have a guided conversation much like our New Year episode about our most recent failed dating experience.Keep It SimpleSummarize your last failed dating experience in 1 - 3 sentencesStory Time!Using no more than 10 bullet points recap the entire experience (from beginning to end)What were your thoughts and feelings about your friend's experienceWhat were 3 highs from this experience? How did you know this was someone you wanted to continuously date? What were 3 lows from this experience? How did you know that things were not going to last?RecoveryUsing Iyanla's Recovery After Long Term Relationship video as a guide (27 min video) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-PC-2Vtkw8)AcceptanceYou have to accept that the relationship is over and that you will recoverGrieving & healing requires that you share your thoughts and feelings about the loss so that you can adjust your mind and heart and spirit. Without sharing, chances are you'll get stuck and sta stuck in mourning ( meaning thinking shoulda coulda wouldas = different outcome)Celebrate the good days, know that you deserve themCelebrate the small victories such as finally eating after going too long without doing soLaughing when it seems like you've been crying foreverRemove things from your environment that remind you of the personYou can bring these things back at a later time if they are gifts etcDon't follow your ex on social mediaEven if you think you are completely over your ex, seeing someone you once did everything with now doing things with someone else is going to be painfulSocial media is not the place to work through your feelingsFigure out if you can still be friendsWhat you do and how you do it depends on why you broke up about how you feel about the other personIf you remain friends with the hope that eventually you'll get back together things can get very ugly & painful very quicklyYou have left physically but the layers such as emotionally & spiritually leaving is still going onRespect this multilayered processYou need to separate on all levels before your heart can heal and your mind can be clearEstablish boundaries and guidelines for communicationLess is moreMaybe 30 days no contact and then decide what can workDo the things you love even if you once loved doing those things as a coupleYou can still enjoy these activities without the other personAvoid Excessive overeating or drinkingJoin a groupDo something newLearn a skillSomething that opens you up to things you didn't know about beforeGo to shows, movies, concertsGet a new hairstyleDo things that make you feel attractive againMakeover your home such as new bedding, a new candle, a pillowAvoid a rebound relationshipOr something in someone just t o give you a few thrillsInstead meet new people and see what happensSeek professional help if depression becomes chronicEnding a long term relationship regardless of romantic friendship or by natural causes or by choice is challenging so you need to find your own rules. This is just a place to startFinal Thoughtsin this video iyanla ends with “It's important that you train yourself not to be loyal to people who don't treat you well. Be mindful to protect yourself mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually from energy vampires and emotional rapists who will make you feel guilty about how they treat you, remember your first priority is you.”People should not judge failed love affairs as failed experiences but as part of the growth process.
