In Today's episode, I interview clinician, entrepreneur and inventor, Pete Holman. Pete is a physical therapist, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), international presenter, author, fitness product inventor and former US National TaeKwonDo champion living in Colorado. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Master's of Science degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 and went on to work at the renowned Aspen Sports Medicine clinic prior to opening up his own private practice in 2001. His client list has included Fortune 500 hundred business owners from Jones Apparel, Progressive Insurance & Fiji water, as well as, Hollywood stars including Ed Bradley and Kevin Costner. Pete's dedication to advancing the fitness industry and his entrepreneurial spirit has inspired him to create multiple products that impact fitness enthusiasts and athletes worldwide. His first product, The Functional Training Rack, was licensed to Perform Better in 2008 and inspired “hoop” platforms for current stability ball rack designs. His second product, the RIPCORE-FX, was acquired by TRX and is now referred to as the TRX Rip Trainer. The Rip Trainer has grossed over $30 million in worldwide sales and can be seen in commercial gyms and sports performance centers around the world. Next, seeing a need for Golf specific training modalities, Pete partnered with GolfForever and iterated the Rip Trainer into the GolfForever Swing Trainer (the world's first 2 in 1 Golf training aid.) With custom handles and coaching zones, a lightweight aluminum shaft and weighted ball heads for overspeed training, the Swing Trainer has quickly become the number one Golf training aid sold in Golf Galaxy, PGA Superstores and Dicks Sporting Goods. Endorsed by pro Golfers Scottie Scheffler, Ryan Palmer and Justin Leonard, the Swing Trainer is poised to revolutionize fitness training for Golfers! In 2018, Pete designed the first ever plate loaded Hip Thrust machine called the Glute Drive. He approached industry leading giants and the Nautilus Glute Drive was spawned. The Glute Drive is Nautilus's number one selling commercial strength product, selling over 3000 units a year. Pete's latest product is the world's first Loaded Carry/Sled Push combo machine. Growing up on a small farm in Littleton Colorado, Pete hauled road base, concrete, railroad ties and manure around the farm. He attributed his grip, hip and core strength, which later lead to him becoming a US National TaeKwon-Do champion, to his Farm Strong work. He brought the concept to Escape Fitness and the Escape Barrow was created. Pete works tirelessly on developing education, programming and products that will have a positive impact on health and fitness worldwide. EPISODE TRANSCRIPTION Brett Gilliland 00:01 Welcome to the Circuit of Success. I am your host, Brett Gilliland and today I've got Pete Holman with me, Pete, what's up, man? How you doing? Pete Holman 00:08 Fantastic. Brett Gilliland 00:09 Love it. We're gonna have some good conversations today. Man, you're coming to us from Aspen, Colorado. How is Aspen treating you today? Pete Holman 00:17 It is one of those days. So it's 74 degrees 10% humidity, like clouds. I just had lunch with a buddy that I hadn't seen in a long time. We're at the park and there's ducks floating on the pond. I mean, it just, it's magical up here. I'm kind of high right now. So you got me at a good time, buddy. Brett Gilliland 00:36 That's awesome. I love it. Kind of high right now. And in Colorado, that may mean different things to different people. Pete Holman 00:43 I well, I'm high on life. Brett Gilliland 00:47 That's funny. Well, man, you are a I wrote down here entrepreneur, a founder, a creator, a coach and educator, an author now, man, you got a lot of good stuff going on. And we were connected by a little deal that you just created called Golf Forever. And I think before we started talking, I was telling you that I get this accountability group. And one of my goals with it is to golf well into my 90s. And golf on my 100th birthday. When you type in Golf Forever on Google, this thing shows up and then you guys do a great job and the ads show up on Instagram. And then I ended up buying it right. And so now we're on a podcast together because I'm a believer. Pete Holman 01:25 Hey, so my funnels are working is what you're saying? Brett Gilliland 01:28 That's exactly what I'm saying, Man, because you literally I typed in golf forever like workouts thinking I would find like, Hey, do these 10 things. And then I didn't know there was a product. And then once you click on it, and then your funnels work, and that's something about business and sales that we could obviously talk about as well. Pete Holman 01:43 Fantastic. Well, so the founder of the company is Dr. Jeremy James. He's a chiropractor up in Aspen. And he worked with golfers for years. And he just kept finding out that they were broken down their back their low backs, their shoulders, their hips weren't mobile, the thoracic spine wasn't mobile. And he it almost pissed them off to the point he said, I'm creating a program for this. And he ended up getting some funding. And it came became known as back back forever, meaning healthy backs. But then he realized that golfers are in specific need of this. And they you know, they tend to have a higher disposable income than just your average folks. And so they're going to be more apt to, and they love playing golf. So I came along and he said, "Can you provide some content because I'm a strength coach and physical therapist," I started creating content, I created a product called the TRX Rip Trainer, which is an asymmetrical bar training device. It's great for all sports. And TRX, you know, they did some good things with it. They also did not iterate it over a decade. And that upset me because products need to evolve and right. Dr. Dr. James said, "hey, could we get an affiliate membership with TRX for the RIP trainer because it's great for golf." And I said "we should make our own and do it better." And I was joking. I was completely being facetious. And he just glommed on to that. And the next thing you know a year later, we've got the Golf Forever Swing Trainer.

Pete Holman is many things, a national taekwondo champion, a physical therapist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, an international presenter, an author, and an inventor. You may wonder how one man can do so many things, but he is able to do all of this and more. Not only has he found the drive to do all of this, but he has done so at the hands of adversity, overcoming obstacles again and again. Pete grew up in Colorado, and in 1997 he won the National Taekwondo Championship, leading the team to victory. In the same year he graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Physical Therapy. With this degree he started a career at the exceptionally renowned Aspen Sports Medicine Clinic. He then opened up his own private practice in 2001. He invented the TRX Rip Trainer, the Nautilus Glute Drive, and several other fitness products. He's worked with professional athletes and coaches from the MLB, NFL, NBA, UFC, the X-Games, and the Sun Energy1 Race Car Team. While doing all of this he found time to be a presenter for IDEA FIT, as well as writing for several other journals and websites. To this day he continues to invent, innovate, and inspire. Pete believes that if we truly want something that we will go out and get it. Adversity in your life is what gives you strength, allows you to overcome, and what lets you know that what you want is worth getting. He believes that the best things in your life will come through hard work and sacrifice, and Pete has lived up to these words time and time again throughout his life. Enjoy the show? Barbells. Dumbbells. Strength training machines. Kettlebells. Medicine balls. Heavy ropes. Large rubber bands. Treadmills. Stair climbers. One-wheeled bikes that go nowhere. There are so many equipment options in a modern fitness facility that it’s sometimes a little overwhelming to know which you should use to get the results you want. If you’re like most fitness consumers you probably go to the gym before work, mid-day during a lunch break or immediately after work; during these high traffic times it can be a challenge to get a great workout because most of the popular equipment is being used, often by a few people at a time. However, the good news is that in EVERY fitness facility I’ve ever been in, there are always pieces of equipment that are left sitting all alone like a forgotten toy in the back of a kid’s closet. If you know how to use these overlooked pieces you can be assured of a getting the workout you want EVERY time you step into a gym no matter the time of day and how crowded it is. This episode of All About Fitness is a Quick Fit Tip that reviews that overlooked exercise equipment that you should be using the next time you visit your favorite workout facility. Follow this link to the blog I wrote for the American Council on Exercise about the forgotten equipment you should be using!
