Passage: 18 “Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.” 20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!” (John 21:18-22) Song: Follow by Beau Maddox, Bede Benjamin-Korporaal, Chris Davenport, and Melodie Malone Lyrics: I give my life to follow Jesus Captive to Christ I know true freedom I count it all joy to take up my cross I'll follow These earthly wells have left me thirsty All worldly wisdom comes up empty Only Your word and only Your ways I'll follow What a joy it is to follow Jesus What a gift it is to bear His name What an honor to choose surrender And make Him my everything When the darkness brings its questions When trusting You becomes a wrestle I have resolved no matter the cost I'll follow Yes to surrender Yes to the altar Yes to Your plans for me Yes to correction Yes to confession Yes to refining me Yes to Your blessing Yes to anointing Your Spirit alive in me Yes to salvation And resurrection Yes to eternity What a joy it is to follow Jesus What a gift it is to bear His name What an honor to choose surrender And make You my everything And make You my everything Lord You are my everything Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. Passage: 1 When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!” 2 Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?” 3 Then she said, “Here is my servant Bilhah; go in to her, so that she may give birth on my behalf, that even I may have children through her.” 4 So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went in to her. 5 And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. 6 Then Rachel said, “God has judged me, and has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan. 7 Rachel's servant Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. 8 Then Rachel said, “With mighty wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister and have prevailed.” So she called his name Naphtali. 9 When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took her servant Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. 10 Then Leah's servant Zilpah bore Jacob a son. 11 And Leah said, “Good fortune has come!” So she called his name Gad. 12 Leah's servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. 13 And Leah said, “Happy am I! For women have called me happy.” So she called his name Asher. 14 In the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrakes in the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.” 15 But she said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son's mandrakes also?” Rachel said, “Then he may lie with you tonight in exchange for your son's mandrakes.” 16 When Jacob came from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come in to me, for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes.” So he lay with her that night. I'm a pretty good planner. I like to get a goal and create a plan to achieve it, collect the needed materials, and execute. Then I sit back and enjoy the rewards of having arrived. But goal setting, planning, and effort have limits—more than we admit. Where does the supernatural fit into your story? Do you ever pray and wonder if it works? Are you doing it right? Is God truly listening? Doubts can easily lead us astray from our prayer life. This weekend, I share a personal approach to prayer that I've developed over the past 30 years. Let's call it "Seven for the Soul." We all need to find a way to pray that goes beyond simply asking for favorable outcomes. Here's a guide to help you create your own "Seven for the Soul" practice. First time listening to our podcast? Passage: 16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” (Matthew 10:16-23 ESV) Song: Follow (https://open.spotify.com/track/0sBm2lZBspg3kCFgwVtz5S?si=ef910e5f1c574cb6) by Beau Maddox, Bede Benjamin-Korporaal, Chris Davenport, and Melodie Malone Lyrics: I give my life to follow Jesus Captive to Christ I know true freedom I count it all joy to take up my cross I'll follow These earthly wells have left me thirsty All worldly wisdom comes up empty Only Your word and only Your ways I'll follow What a joy it is to follow Jesus What a gift it is to bear His name What an honor to choose surrender And make Him my everything When the darkness brings its questions When trusting You becomes a wrestle I have resolved no matter the cost I'll follow Yes to surrender Yes to the altar Yes to Your plans for me Yes to correction Yes to confession Yes to refining me Yes to Your blessing Yes to anointing Your Spirit alive in me Yes to salvation And resurrection Yes to eternity What a joy it is to follow Jesus What a gift it is to bear His name What an honor to choose surrender And make You my everything And make You my everything Lord You are my everything Prayer: I ask you, my most gracious God, preserve me from the cares of this life, lest I should be too much entangled in them; and from the many necessities of the body, lest I should be ensnared by pleasure; and from whatsoever is an obstacle to the soul, lest, broken with troubles, I should be overthrown. Passage: 4 The riffraff among them had a strong craving for other food. The Israelites wept again and said, “Who will feed us meat? 5 We remember the free fish we ate in Egypt, along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. 6 But now our appetite is gone; there's nothing to look at but this manna! ” 10 Moses heard the people, family after family, weeping at the entrance of their tents. The Lord was very angry; Moses was also provoked. 11 So Moses asked the Lord, “Why have you brought such trouble on your servant? Why are you angry with me, and why do you burden me with all these people? 12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth so you should tell me, ‘Carry them at your breast, as a nursing mother carries a baby,' to the land that you swore to give their ancestors? 13 Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they are weeping to me, ‘Give us meat to eat! ' 14 I can't carry all these people by myself. They are too much for me. 15 If you are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now if I have found favor with you, and don't let me see my misery anymore.” 16 The Lord answered Moses, “Bring me seventy men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you. 17 Then I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit who is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by yourself. 24 Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. He brought seventy men from the elders of the people and had them stand around the tent. 25 Then the Lord descended in the cloud and spoke to him. He took some of the Spirit who was on Moses and placed the Spirit on the seventy elders. As the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they never did it again. 26 Two men had remained in the camp, one named Eldad and the other Medad; the Spirit rested on them — they were among those listed, but had not gone out to the tent — and they prophesied in the camp. 27 A young man ran and reported to Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” 28 Joshua son of Nun, assistant to Moses since his youth, responded, “Moses, my lord, stop them! ” 29 But Moses asked him, “Are you jealous on my account? If only all the Lord's people were prophets and the Lord would place his Spirit on them! ” 30 Then Moses returned to the camp along with the elders of Israel. -- Numbers 11:4-6,10-17,24-29 Song: The Lord Will Provide (https://open.spotify.com/track/6hphIUnmvXPPydnr8kZnGf?si=253c0eafab3e4310) by Brett Younker, Chris Davenport, and Jess Cates Lyrics: Look at the flowers In all of their beauty I don't have to wonder You know what You're doing So why would I worry at all You're faithful to supply Everything I need Everything I need My Father has it My Father has it Every single time The Lord will provide My Father has it Look at the sparrow Lacking for nothing No fear of tomorrow And what it will bring If I have You I have enough 'Cause Your love will satisfy Seek first the kingdom and its treasures Everything else it will be added All that I'm needing I know the Lord will provide I know my God's not empty handed He gives us blessings upon blessings I'm still believing I know the Lord will provide Prayer: Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands. NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore were supposed to be on the International Space Station for eight days. But as the Boeing Starliner capsule they were in was approaching the space station, the spacecraft's thrusters started to fail. Since then, Boeing and NASA have struggled to figure out what went wrong. NASA decided last week that the astronauts should stay put for eight months until they could come back in a SpaceX capsule. Host Martine Powers speaks with space industry reporter Chris Davenport about the plan to bring the astronauts home and what the repercussions of this mission will be on Boeing and future space travel. Passage: 1 “Carefully follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase, and may enter and take possession of the land the Lord swore to your ancestors. 2 Remember that the Lord your God led you on the entire journey these forty years in the wilderness, so that he might humble you and test you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you by letting you go hungry; then he gave you manna to eat, which you and your ancestors had not known, so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. 4 Your clothing did not wear out, and your feet did not swell these forty years. 5 Keep in mind that the Lord your God has been disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son. 6 So keep the commands of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and fearing him. 7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams, springs, and deep water sources, flowing in both valleys and hills; 8 a land of wheat, barley, vines, figs, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey; 9 a land where you will eat food without shortage, where you will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and from whose hills you will mine copper. 10 When you eat and are full, you will bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. -- Deuteronomy 8:1-10 (CSB) Song: The Lord Will Provide by Brett Younker, Chris Davenport, and Jess Cates Lyrics: Look at the flowers In all of their beauty I don't have to wonder You know what You're doing So why would I worry at all You're faithful to supply Everything I need Everything I need My Father has it My Father has it Every single time The Lord will provide My Father has it (My Father has it) Look at the sparrow Lacking for nothing No fear of tomorrow And what it will bring If I have You I have enough 'Cause Your love will satisfy Seek first the kingdom and its treasures Everything else it will be added All that I'm needing I know the Lord will provide I know my God's not empty handed He gives us blessings upon blessings I'm still believing I know the Lord will provide Prayer: Accept, we beseech you, our . . . thanksgiving, O you fountain of all good, who has led us in safety through the length of the day; who daily blesses us with so many temporal mercies and has given us the hope of resurrection to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. In the skiing universe, Chris Davenport is a household name. His notoriety is due in part to the many facets of the sport upon which he's had a lasting impact. He raced for New Hampshire's Holderness Academy and the University of Colorado before transitioning to freeskiing and winning world championships in 1996 and 2001. He became one of the first American Red Bull athletes and found his way into more than 30 ski films. And that just scratches the surface of Dav's decades of dominance. He eventually moved on from competitive freeskiing to focus on high-profile backcountry objectives like skiing all of Colorado's 54 14,000-foot peaks in less than a year, then skiing the 100 highest peaks in the state. He authored a book about the 14ers project and co-authored Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America. Today, Dav applies his decades of experience and passion for skiing in a multitude of ways. He's a ski guide, television host and announcer, and ski entrepreneur. Most recently, he's taken on a role at Peak Skis alongside Bode Miller, bringing decades in the industry to his focus on design and innovation. Shane McConkey was the most influential skier or snowboarder of our time. Not only was he an incredible athlete, but he was also one of those innovators who was always tinkering with products to make the sport better and more fun. Between lobbying for mid-fats in the late 90s and pioneering rocker technology in the 2000s, there is not another athlete I can think of who has done more for progressing. On top of all that, Shane was a funny, laugh-out-loud comedian, and on the podcast this week, I take you through my trip to the McConkey PMS event and get some funny Shane stories from folks like Sherry McConkey, JT Holmes, Scott Gaffney, Mike Douglas, Chris Davenport and many more. It gives you all this, depending on whether or not you want to pay for it:Gratz founded OpenSnow 11 years ago with an email list of 37 people. The company's list now numbers 3 million. Or so. It's like counting flakes in a storm. There are lots of them. The service pinpoints snowfall everywhere on the planet. So Backcountry Bro, you're covered. Lift-Served Larry (that's me), you're covered too. Uphill Harvey – we really wish you'd just pick a side and stop f*****g up the grooming before the lifts open.Anyway, if you love snow and want to know how much of it is going to fall, and where and when, then this app should be your Excalibur. Wield it wisely, Fellow Snowbum. Why I interviewed himYou know how some people want to live in Florida and make exasperated sounds when more snow materializes on the radar and plan wintertime vacations to places like Aruba? Well I am not one of those people. And neither is Joel Gratz. Wintertime is for skiing. And to enjoy skiing as much as possible, it helps to follow the snow around. That's what Joel, and his brilliant website/app/service, OpenSnow, do.Everyone reading this newsletter is programmed in a different way from Human V1.0. We run toward storms that most humans flee. With urgency. Like some snowy version of a firefighter. Like insane people. Because we know what the genuflecting and hysterical weatherman does not: that snow is potent and intoxicating; that it changes the world and everything in it, including the people who immerse themselves within. If an adult charges into a sandbox or waterpark or ballpit, we regard them suspiciously. That stuff is for kids. But if they spend the day bouncing through snow and enter the bar boot-clicking and semi-dazed and white-draped and grinning madly and asking for a tallboy, we ask them to stand up at our wedding. No one gets this but skiers. And so no one could make a truly ski-centric weather app other than a skier. Someone whose headline, upon analyzing an incoming storm, isn't DEAR GOD DO NOT STEP OUTSIDE STOCK UP ON AMMUNITION AND DRY RATIONS BECAUSE THIS IS IT PEOPLE, but rather DEAR GOD IT'S ABOUT TO SNOW 90 INCHES IN TAHOE GET THERE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!There are plenty of ways to track the weather, of course. Lots of apps, lots of weather services, lots of social media groups. I haven't found one better than OpenSnow, where I can look up any specific ski area and see an hour-by-hour and day-by-day snowfall and weather forecast for 10 days into the future. And that's all I really care about: where will it snow, how much, and when? With a meteorology degree on his wall and a couple decades in his mad-scientist's snow lab, Gratz is as well-equipped to deliver this information as anyone on the planet. What we talked aboutHow early a ski weather guy wakes up; Joel's wintertime and powder-day routine; the secrets of good powder skiing; how a meteorologist was born; Shawnee, Pennsylvania; do they even want snow in the Poconos?; Penn State meteorology; skiing Tussey; an Alpine Meadows powder day on racing skis; Boulder as innovation incubator; how a Vail old-timer outsmarted the guy with the fancy meteorology degree; the mystery of mountain microclimates; the missed Steamboat powder day that inspired the creation of OpenSnow; an email goes out to 37 people on a Tuesday night; a fortuitous conversation with Chris Davenport; how long it took OpenSnow to really establish itself; “a lot of your good fortune is just being born when and where you were”; the several simultaneous tech innovations that enabled widespread online weather forecasting; breaking down the various global weather services (GFS, Euro, etc.), and how they work; “modern meteorology is a miracle of cooperation and funding from taxpayers like us all around the world”; translating raw data and forecasts into the thing skiers most care about: how much is it going to snow, when, and where?; removing the human from the forecasting equation; why and how OpenSnow scaled from Colorado to the rest of the world; why OpenSnow doesn't capture every ski area in the world (yet); snow forecasts for any mapdot on the planet; why OpenSnow shifted to a subscription model and what it meant for the business; La Niña; breaking down the strong early start for the West and the weak weather in New England; dumb meteorology jokes; the two things you need to make snow; breaking down the unique weather systems that determine snowfall for the Cottonwoods, Mt. Baker, Keystone, Tahoe, the Great Lakes, and northern Vermont; how wind impacts snow quality; and America's snowiest places. Why I thought that now was a good time for this interviewThe image in the “About OpenSnow” section above distills the benefits of the paid subscription tier succinctly: to tap the service's best features, you need to pay. It's worth it. I subscribed long before our partnership, and I continue to.But OpenSnow wasn't always so arranged. For years, Gratz and his team lived on advertising. At some point, they activated a paywall to access certain features, but much of the site remained free. That changed last year, when OpenSnow migrated the majority of its content to its paid tier. Gratz explains why in the podcast, but this business decision resonated with me for obvious reasons. To remain relevant and useful, most digital ski-focused media platforms require an intense and consistent focus. That requires time, energy, passion, and commitment – all attributes that our capitalist society has deemed worth paying for in the form of labor. Labor, we decided a long time ago, cannot be free. Thus, products produced with labor – and media is a product – require a pricetag to access. This is easier to understand when you're purchasing a toaster or a car than when you're buying access to a podcast or a snow forecast. It helps to remember that, in the scope of history, the internet is still pretty new. I grew up without it, and I'm not that old. We're still figuring out how to price the considerable volume of information that we find there. Most of it, I'll admit, is worthless, but some of it is worth quite a bit. But several generations of Americans arrived at the internet with the understanding that it was a frivolous add-on, a place to waste time and get in trouble, a soul vacuum that was the domain of creeps and morons. They have a hard time acknowledging the evolution of the web into a utility, an essential pipeline of connection and information, a place of intangible things with tangible value. That was the challenge OpenSnow faced in finding a path to long-term sustainability. And it is the challenge I face with The Storm. I did it for free for as long as I could. The first 2,076 hours of labor were on me. Then I asked for money. The transition went beyond my expectations. Hundreds of people upgraded their subscriptions right away, and hundreds more have upgraded since. New paid subscribers join just about every day. The Storm is now a sustainable operation. And so, having made the same decision – on a much larger scale – is OpenSnow.I'm sure you've read about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a rat's nest of floating plastic refuse covering more than 600,000-square-miles of the Pacific Ocean. Most of its contents are microplastics – the smashed-up bits of water bottles and medicine containers and candy-bar wrappers. You just know that floating somewhere in there is a Yeti cooler and fully intact G.I. Joe hovercraft (I keep waiting for Disney to release: Toy Story: Tales of the Garbage Patch, featuring a scrappy band of discarded toys who A-Team their way back to the mainland), but most of it is useless garbage. The internet is a lot like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch: an unfathomable well of junk, sprinkled with a few treasures. There's a reason I occasionally step out of my ski-area-manager lane to interview journalists or individuals running ski-related websites: I want to help you find the G.I. Joe Killer W.H.A.L.E.s, the things worth scooping out of the water and taking home. Why you should use OpenSnowWhile OpenSnow is a Storm advertising partner, this podcast was not part of, and is not related to, that partnership. OpenSnow did not have any editorial input into the content or editing of this podcast - which is true of any guest on any episode. I don't do sponsored content. The Storm is independent ski media, based on reporting and independently verified facts - any opinion is synthesized through that lens, as it is with any good journalism outlet. That said, it's a great service, and one that I use every day of the winter – that's why I partnered with them. And part of our partnership is this special link where you can get two free months of OpenSnow. So you should probably take advantage of that so they want to keep working with me:Podcast NotesJoel references Baker's record snowfall year – it was 1,140 inches from 1998 to '99. By Adam Turteltaub Most every compliance team would like the helpline to ring more, and Brooks Rehabilitation was no different, explains Compliance Operations Manager Christine Davenport (LinkedIn). To increase call volume they adopted a snappy slogan – “Better call compliance” – and put together a full marketing campaign to support it. The efforts paid off big, doubling the number of calls over four years. It wasn't the slogan alone that helped. Central to their success was the combination of good internal marketing along with a serious behind the scenes effort to ensure that calls were acted on. The team captured data on which line of business the call came from, type of issue and what response was provided. The data was kept on a shared drive to streamline the process and make it simple to spot a repeated question. This both saved work and decreased the time of response. Common areas of employee concerns included HIPAA and receiving gifts from patients. When responding to calls, the compliance team, wherever possible, included information about the underlying regulatory requirement. This helped provide employees with context and enabled them to better educate themselves. The compliance team also looked beyond the questions and treated the calls as a way to start a conversation and reassure employees that calling didn't automatically get them or someone else in trouble. Listen in to learn more about their efforts and get some ideas about how to convince your workforce it better call compliance.
On today's episode of The Adrenaline Zone, Sandy and Sandra interview two-time World Champion skier and lifelong outdoor enthusiast, Chris Davenport. Widely recognized as one of the top skiers in the world, he is the first person to ski all fifty-four of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks in less than one year. Chris starts the conversation by talking about his earlier skiing experiences. As he recounts, he was exposed to all the joys of being outdoors very early on so the passion for outdoor activities was instilled in him at a young age. Then, Chris discusses the potential risks and challenges that sports like skiing involve. According to him, the trick is to get smart at handling risk. Next, Chris talks about the "goosebump" moment that all ski athletes experience – the feeling of looking down a huge mountain, seeing a big crowd cheering you on, and observing the surroundings. Believe it or not, Chris still gets butterflies in his stomach in moments like these which is one of the many indicators of his love for skiing and ski racing. Then, Chris discusses one of his biggest accomplishments, becoming the first person to ski fifty-four mountains in one year. He even wrote a book about it, called Ski The 14ers, where he told a story about this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Finally, Chris proceeds to talk about the importance of efficient equipment for skiers. He also opens up about his current projects and activities. He's still very much spreading his passion for skiing and teaching others to understand the language of the mountains. The Finer Details of this Episode: Pursuing a childhood passion as a career The racecar driver analogy and learning to mitigate risks Understanding the language of the mountains Skiing fifty-four mountains in one year The importance of efficient ski equipment Turning skiing into a career Quotes: “Part of the reason I loved doing this sport and continue to love being out in the big mountains is I love looking at it holistically: How do we get the best possible outcome from the thing that we're trying to do, whether it's climbing a mountain or skiing back down a mountain? And what are the things that could trip us up trying to identify those potential risks, and then figure out how we mitigate them.” “The goal of getting to the top or skiing back down is almost secondary to the experience of just being out there. So, when I think about it that way, and I go out and just put one foot in front of the other in the mountains, I'm just always having a good time, it's sort of managing expectations is what it is. You keep those expectations low, you generally exceed them, and then that's a good thing.” “You could be a world champion, you can be an Olympic champion, you can have all this experience. But you still get those butterflies when you're in the gate, because you care, you love it so much. You want to do your best.” “Skiing down is so much fun. It's so free and can be intense, but in a good way.” “I've had such a wonderful career. It's been so blessed. And I really love giving back nowadays in a number of different ways.” Links: The Adrenaline Zone Homepage The Adrenaline Zone on Instagram The Adrenaline Zone on Twitter The Adrenaline Zone on TikTok Chris Davenport Website Ski The 14ers Book
A Christadelphian production: Description: Sacrifices as a means of forgiveness were provided, but it required the sacrifice of one man, perfectly doing the will of God. Jesus Christ subdued his own way, to obey his Father. Christ's humanity, enabled him to identify with the human experience, and so minister effectively to them. He thereby can be our mediator. To start, we grimly remark on the latest round up of avalanches, landslides, and glacier collapses and what that means for mountain travel in the future. Our main guest today is Cody Townsend, a self-proclaimed “rock climbing gumby” but a true all-mountain badass, free skier, ski mountaineer, and extreme-sports ambassador. Cody offers a wonderful outsider-looking-in perspective on our self-serious sport. He also dishes up the latest from Ski the Fifty, a multi-year effort to ski all 50 of the classic ski descents of North America, as listed in the eponymous coffee table book by Chris Davenport and Penn Newhard. Some of the percussions in today's final bit riff are created using climbing gear—but knowing that won't stop you from putting on some serious bass face. How many of us have ever been in a waiting season? Maybe you feel like you're in one right now? Chris Davenport - Legendary Freeskier, Ski Mountaineer, Mountain Guide - | Brought to you by Alta Ski Area “We decided we would go rally this [borrowed] Nissan Pathfinder around in the deep snow and just see what it was capable of, and we ended up upside down on the roof, we flipped it, crashed it, hit a telephone pole, everyone was ok, but we had to drive that thing to the dealership the next day and… I didn't film for Warren Miller for a couple of years after that. Big Trouble.” - Chris Davenport Chris Davenport was the world extreme skiing champion in both 1996 and 2000. He's been in over 30 Warren Miller ski movies and a multitude of other ski movies doing things like huck 100' cliffs in Alaska. Chris' ski mountaineering achievements are unparalleled. He was the first to ski all 54 of Colorado's 14,000' peaks in a single year. The guy even skied the Lhotse face at 27,000' in the shadow of Mt. Everest. Oh, and then he summited Everest while guiding. No biggie. Chris is also an author, a TV commentator, a professional speaker, a professional mountain guide, a first descent aficionado, and an all-around good guy. In this episode, Chris & Miles discuss skiing the Lhotse face, climbing Mt. Everest, Chris' favorite mountain ranges to ski, skiing all 54 of Colorado's 14,000' peaks within 1-year, climate change, ski guiding, Chris' favorite books, Chris' funniest accidents, the glory days of extreme skiing contests, and much more. Chris Davenport answers these insightful questions: Best part/worst part of summiting Mt. Everest? What was it like skiing the Lhotse Face at 27,000'? The 14er project was a genius idea, Chris. How did you come up with this concept? What was it like skiing in the glory days of the extreme contests against Shane McConkey and crew? Have you ever been in an avalanche? What happened?
