Epizodi sāksim ar maģiskās Saurumana lodes izvilkšanu, kurai atdosim daļu savas dvēseles, lai katrs nolasītu trīs paredzējumus par to, kas jauns šogad notiks galdaspēļu pasaulē. Svaigs un gards Toms iepazīs vudū melno maģiju, ar kuras palīdzību stāsies pretim zilajam jaguāram spēlē Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn. As foretold, once every thirty-three episodes Mike Perna of Innroads Ministries, Game Store Prophets, and Bard and Bible joins us—this time, to talk about board games! Mike takes a moment to plug TavernCon 2018 (June 9th in Warren, NJ.) We also give a bit of a shout-out (belated by the time this episode drops) to the Min/Max Podcast for hitting the one-year mark. Then we take on a question from Patreon backer "Retro Rewind Podcast" (another good podcast you should check out) about our favorite foods and the trouble we'd go to in order to eat them. Once all that's done, we read our Scripture and start talking about board games. We focus specifically on board games close to our roleplaying focus—games with heavy story elements, or games in which there's a procedurally-generated story to enjoy—but we do roam around a bit and talk about a lot of games, so make sure to check the links below if you're interested in any of those! Board games mentioned in this episode: Overlight, Gloomhaven, Once Upon A Time (3rd Edition), T.I.M.E. Stories, Alien Artifact, Twilight Imperium, Through The Ages, Barker's Row, Meeple Circus, Fog of Love, ...and then we held hands, Star Crossed, The Grizzled, Freedom: The Underground Railroad, Arranged!, This War of Mine, Tales of the Arabian Nights, Above and Below, Near and Far, The Quiet Year, Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game, Android: Netrunner, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn. (Phew!) Scripture: Proverbs 11:1-3, Philippians 2:3-4, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Adam and Ryan discuss the real reason you see your friends nowadays, gaming groups. Is it easier to turn gamers into friends, or friends into gamers? What do you do with the tag-alongs that just wanted to drink beer and talk about the last episode of Glee? How do you avoid fistfights while trying to pick a game that pleases everyone? All this and more! Afterwards, Ryan and Adam regale us with stories of the cold war with our feature game, Twilight Struggle. Hear why this one time BGG juggernaut is still worth a play in today's post-1990's climate. Ryan wraps up the episode with a few suggestions for those who want a taste of the mechanics without the 4 hour playtime, and a recent recap of his first plays of Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn. From camp #GenCant, we talk about the latest buzz from GenCon, which was two weeks prior to this podcast's release. It was all brand new to us as we recorded and gushed about new games. We hit the old favorites: Imperial Assault, Firefly, and Legendary. We also hit on new games, such as Blood Rage, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, Codenames, Mysterium, Star Wars Carcassonne and Champions of Midgard, among many others. We also talk Nathan into spending more money for our own enjoyment. Not that that's hard.
Designer and art director Isaac Vega chats about business and games. We discuss F2Z's recent acquisition of Plaid Hat Games and what this means to the company. We also discuss Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, an expandable fantasy battle card and dice game

While at Origins Game Fair, I was able to talk with Colby Dauch of Plaid Hat Games. We mainly chatted about Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn and Specter Ops. I asked Colby how they decided how thier miniatures should look, specifically, how should a werewolf look for a Plaid Hat game? At their level, does the company image go into the thought process when creating art and miniautres? Turns out, Plaid Hat Games has used the same sculptor for all of their minis, and him and Colby were friends before either of them were professionals in the board game industry. Cool. (Apologies for the audio, it was recorded on the convention floor.)
