What happens when the version of success you built your life around suddenly stops working? In this episode of the Anxious Achiever podcast, host Morra Aarons-Mele and I talk about ego death, anxiety, nervous system healing, and what it means to let go of the need to prove yourself. We cover all the hits: career humiliation, social media comparison, identity, chronic pain, and the process of realizing that the things that once made you feel successful or special no longer fit who you are becoming. The Anxious Achiever is a popular podcast that sits at the intersection of mental health, anxiety, and professional success. Ego death lives squarely at this intersection: it is all about surrendering control and accepting that your worth cannot come from achievement, productivity, attention, or external validation. Here's a breakdown of some of the other things we cover here:00:00 Why success, validation, and recognition can become your identity.06:15 What does ego death mean to you?10:00 Solutions for letting go of control and external validation.16:30 Why ego death happens in layers over time.18:30 How anxiety fuels the need to feel special or secure.25:30 What is nervous system regulation?29:15 How chronic pain led Meredith into mind-body healing work.36:00 How to process emotional pain without shutting down.41:45 Using symbols, imagery, and intuition to understand emotional healing.45:00 Spirituality, energy, and finding support beyond achievement.51:45 Why surrender is central to ego death.55:45 How to think differently about work in midlife. To learn more about Morra's work, or her books, go to https://morraam.com/booksor follow her on Linkedin.

A missão? In the fall of 1983, NATO's annual nuclear war exercise, Able Archer 83, brought the United States and the Soviet Union closer to catastrophe than almost anyone in Washington understood at the time. Brian J. Morra—decorated former Air Force intelligence officer, aerospace executive, and author of the historical thriller The Able Archers—was inside those events: stationed in Tokyo during the KAL 007 shootdown, transferred to Washington just as the crisis peaked, and present in Germany as Soviet nuclear alerts reached levels never seen before or since. He walks Chris through the paranoia that drove Operation RYAN, the Kremlin's vast intelligence collection effort premised on the certainty of a NATO first strike; why mirror imaging at CIA left Reagan largely uninformed; and how three individuals—General Charles Donnelly, Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov, and General Leonard Perutz—each exercised the kind of cool judgment that kept the crisis from tipping into war. Morra draws the line from 1983 to the present: when leadership on opposing sides stops talking directly, the system fails—and that failure, he argues, looks familiar today.Subscribe and share to stay ahead in the world of intelligence, global issues, and current affairs.Learn more about Brian and his work: https://brianjmorra.com/Order The Able Archers: https://brianjmorra.com/the-able-archers/Support Secrets and SpiesBecome a “Friend of the Podcast” on Patreon for £3/$4: https://www.patreon.com/SecretsAndSpiesBuy merchandise from our shop: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/60934996Buy us a coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/secretsandspiesSubscribe to our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDVB23lrHr3KFeXq4VU36dgFor more information about the podcast, check out our website: https://secretsandspiespodcast.comConnect with us on social media Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/secretsandspies.bsky.socialInstagram: https://instagram.com/secretsandspiesFacebook: https://facebook.com/secretsandspiesSpoutible: https://spoutible.com/SecretsAndSpiesFollow Chris and Matt on Bluesky:https://bsky.app/profile/chriscarrfilm.bsky.socialhttps://bsky.app/profile/mattfulton.netSecrets and Spies is produced by Films & Podcasts LTD: https://filmsandpodcasts.co.uk/Music by Andrew R. Stella Morra"La cultura al plurale"Michel de CerteauEdizioni Vita e Pensierowww.vitaepensiero.itLa peculiarità del pensiero di Michel de Certeau è stata sempre l'attenzione a leggere la storia culturale e sociale intrecciando discipline e metodi diversi, dalla filosofia alla psicoanalisi, alla linguistica. Managing your energy is key to regulating anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. In this episode, Morra sits down with energy healing practitioner Ellen Donaldson to explore how energy dysregulation shows up in high-achieving, anxious professionals, and what you can do about it. Ellen breaks down key concepts in mind-body energy medicine, including the chakra system, and offers practical tools to help you feel more grounded, present, and powerful. Morra shares her own experience learning from Ellen, including how a simple shift in energetic awareness helped her cope with caregiving demands and daily overwhelm. You'll also hear a short guided meditation to help you regulate your energy, even on the busiest days. Takeaways from the episode: Your energy body (composed of chakras and an aura) affects your emotional and physical well-being. Dysregulated energy (like overly open or closed chakras) can manifest as anxiety, emotional flooding, or exhaustion. The second chakra is particularly relevant to people-pleasers and caregivers. Learning to “close” it slightly can reduce overwhelm. Grounding through the first chakra helps regulate the nervous system and bring you back to the present moment. Simple practices—like visualizing veggie steamers as chakra regulators!—can be done in seconds, tied to everyday routines. Ellen guides listeners through a quick grounding and chakra-regulation meditation you can repeat anytime—before a tough meeting, while caregiving, or simply when you're feeling frazzled. Welcome back to another episode of Ditch the Labcoat! This week, Dr. Mark Bonta is joined once again by the ever-insightful Dr. Dante Morra—innovator, internal medicine specialist, and the driving force behind the Can Health Network. In this wide-ranging conversation, they pull back the curtain on the current state and future of Canadian healthcare, tackling everything from the rise of AI-driven virtual care to the systemic issues clogging up our hospitals.Dr. Morra breaks down the four pillars of healthcare—catastrophic, chronic disease, episodic, and preventative—and reveals why technology and innovation are set to overhaul not only how care is delivered, but who's really in control. Together, they discuss why it's easier to buy alcohol and gamble than it is to book a physical exam, what it takes to nudge a population toward better health, and how Canadian-made solutions like virtual triage and optimized healthcare “front doors” could change the game. But most of all, this episode is about who will drive real change: not the policymakers or administrators, but people—patients, citizens, and entrepreneurs—who are tired of waiting, ready to take control, and brave enough to disrupt the system from the outside in. Whether you work in medicine, depend on it, or just want a preview of where our healthcare is headed, you'll leave with big ideas and plenty of hope for what's possible next. Plug in, listen up, and—as always—question everything.Episode Highlights1. Courage to Lead Change — Courage is essential to make necessary healthcare changes; everyone knows what to do, but few are willing to go first.2. Rise of AI in Care — AI surpasses traditional care in planned prevention, aggregating biomarkers and histories for optimized personal health plans.3. Healthcare's Four Categories — Understanding catastrophic, chronic, episodic, and preventative care clarifies where innovation and resources should be focused.4. Self-Directed Health Solutions — Technology empowers individuals to manage their healthcare directly, sometimes bypassing traditional systems entirely.5. Misaligned Incentives — Payment structures incentivize episodic and acute care over preventive or chronic care management, perpetuating system inefficiencies.6. Public vs Private Innovation — System transformation will likely come from private sector innovators, not within public institutions mired in political and structural inertia.7. Danger of Easy Vices — Society makes harmful behaviors like gambling and alcohol dangerously accessible, contributing significantly to declining population health.8. Canadian Healthcare Renaissance — Canada stands on the brink of a health innovation renaissance, with technology and empowered citizens leading the way.Episode Timestamps 6:10 — AI's Role in Episodic Care 9:32 — Optimizing Healthcare Access with AI 10:25 — Self-Care Revolution in Healthcare 14:51 — Canadian Healthcare Access Challenges 18:37 — Technology's Impact on Business Models 21:31 — Predictive Health Tools: Behavior Impact? 25:47 — "Courageous Leadership Challenges" 28:12 — Disrupted Pay Model in Healthcare 30:41 — Public vs. Private Industry Dynamics 35:53 — Healthcare System's Struggles and Growth 38:36 — "Virtual Hallway Revolutionizing Healthcare" 41:26 — Embracing Disruptive Health Technology 44:17 — Disruption Sparks Hopeful Healthcare ChangeDISCLAMER >>>>>>    The Ditch Lab Coat podcast serves solely for general informational purposes and does not serve as a substitute for professional medical services such as medicine or nursing.
