This week Kris and Rob experiment with mixing tea, drink some delicious Hallertau #0 Pale Ales, and Rob even reads a poem!
Kris and Rob are joined by guest selector Alex, who argues with Rob about the World Cup during Sport. In TV on the Radio Kris and Rob agree to try actor Timothy Spall's middle class tea concoction (1 bag Yorkshire Tea, one bag Earl Grey) next Saturday. There is also music! All brought to you with the generous support (and beers) of Hallertau.
Plato's residents Kris McFang and Rob Bollox are back, bringing you a show of bodily functions, sports, television, a $1 record, a Gin, music old and new, and of course beers (the #2.5 Mexican Lager with Lime, 2.5%) from their good friends at Hallertau!
This week, news teamers Alex & Manny filled in for Kris & Rob. It's NZ Music Month, and to celebrate Alex & Manny bring you a show of 100% music from Aotearoa. Thanks to Hallertau!

It's NZ Music Month and to celebrate, the Hallertau NZ 95beerFM is back! A portion of all proceeds from this beer go directly to 95bFM, making it an awesome (and delicious) way to support the station. To get your hands on your own 12-pack, head over to the Hallertau website. Or, head to one of your favourite Auckland venues and get it straight from the bar all month long. You'll find it at: Whammy Bar, Goblin, Hollywood Avondale, Basement Theatre, The Tuning Fork, Northern Line Bar & Social, and Freida Margolis. Cheers Hallertau!
When you look at the top restaurants around the world, no matter what cuisine they may focus on, there's one commonality they all share, and that's deep relationships with those who grow and raise the very best ingredients. It's the same in beer—you can't be the best at what you do without the meaningful, personal, financial, and long-standing relationships that ensure the brewery has access to the very best quality ingredients. These relationships don't materialize overnight, but for Firestone Walker, they're the product of 30 years of work. In this series, we highlight a number of these crucial growers, brokers, and processors who have played a role in the world-class beer that Firestone Walker makes. Episode 3: Anywhere & Everywhere In this third episode of the Source Material series, we look at the international reach of hops with which Firestone Walker brews and head to New Zealand for a conversation with Brent McGlashen of Mac Hops, part of the bigger NZ Hops collective. Brent's family has been farming hops down in Motueka for five generations, and their two farms produce quite a bit of the New Zealand hops that make their way into Firestone Walker beer. Joining from Firestone Walker is Tim Miller, raw materials manager and brewer, and it's Tim's job to source the highest quality ingredients, test and analyze them, and make sure that what comes into the brewery is what they expect to come in. Finding great hops wherever they're grown, whether that's Nelson, New Zealand, or Germany's Hallertau, is a big focus for Firestone Walker, and the long-term grower relationships they've built over the past 30 years stretch far beyond North America to anywhere and everywhere that great hops are grown. Kris arrives directly from the record store with six $1 records, Rob is looking forward to the Tottenham Hotspur clash with Auckland FC at Eden Park on 26 July, and the boys are joined throughout by none other than former 95bFM News & Editoral Director Lillian Hanley! All thanks to Hallertau!
Kris scored some cheap 45"s at a recycling center, and finds out the hard way that he hadn't cleaned them up well enough. Plato's Retreat is brought to you by the good people at Hallertau.
...Um. Standing in for Kris and Rob, Steve Newall tries to channel the ethos of Plato's (if not the chatter). Thanks to Hallertau.

Hop-on en luister mee! Servus!

The Bums have gone back-to-back with recordings! Two times is a coincidence, three times is a trend — cross your fingers. The prologue starts with a break-down on the unbearable Bears from NFL Week 3; when is too much NFL too much (overlapping MNF, we're looking at you); Dan Campbell repo update — proving once again how much teenagers suck; bad week to be a former NFL QB, with Future Felon Brent Favor getting and former Vice Tommy Kramer diagnosed with dementia; White Sox baseball fans are on low alert; Pirates are unethical and cheap; Aaron Judge is having himself one for the books; Paddy throw down a Trout-flavored IDNKT; Chicagoan Derrick Rose hangs up his Jordans; more stupid “sports” are appearing like flies on shit (Hobby Horse and Speed Puzzling Championships are highlighted); and wrap with thoughts on the WNBA and CC's impact. The epilogue begins with another dope ass beer view, at the hands of super-fan McD (btw, welcome home) and the Atlantic Brewing Company with “Bar Harbor Pale Ale” (ABV 5.1%), a solid and easy drinking pale ale with malty tones from Maine grown grains, brewed with Saaz and Hallertau hops; it's that time of year when pumpkin spice takes another 3-fist face punch; Eddie's after-show field trip to meet the Denver boys at Reggie's in Chicago; Rocky changes his mobile phone number — a reverse life hack and cautionary tale; Oakland is now a wasteland, wrapped in an echo chamber; Bums anniversary lotto by the numbers; Netflix streaming previews of ‘Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story' (strap in), and ‘Mr. McMahon' (there is early hope); and close with an early morning movie PSA/review/actor run-down from ‘Expendables 3'. Get some before the streak is broken (not that one Pale Hose fans).Recorded on September 26th, 2024 at B.O.M.'s global headquarters ‘East Bunker' in Chicago, IL USA.

. ¡Todo un Power Moment! . This week we drink two beers we've never had before! Exciting! Riverlands Brewing Company - "Kayak Pils" German Pilsner with Hallertau hops. Our House Pilsner going forward, we retired the color designation from our previous Pils, Yellow Kayak, and now we bring you the new Kayak Pils. Applying lessons learned from all previous lagers we've brewed, we bring you a crisp, easy drinking yet flavorful beer, lovingly and painstakingly thought out and crafted. Spicy and slightly citrusy noble German Hallertau hops blend with the cracker and honey notes from premium German Pilsner malt to create the lager we've been searching for. Prost! Odious Cellars - "The Secret History of All Things" Brett fermented American Farmhouse Ale, lightly dry-hopped w/ Crystal & Saaz. Plenty of regions come to mind when talking about hop-growing regions: the Pacific Northwest, Hallertau, Lubin, etc. But what about regions that have come and gone, the former hop-growing regions? Jennifer Jordan is in the process of researching her new book and joins the show to share some of the stories she has uncovered. She is a professor of Sociology at The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She is the author of Edible Memory: The Lure of Heirloom Tomatoes and Other Forgotten Foods (University of Chicago Press, 2015) and Structures of Memory: Understanding Urban Change in Berlin and Beyond (Stanford University Press, 2006). Her current manuscript is titled Before Craft Beer: Lost Landscape of Forgotten Hops, which explores the boom and bust of hop growing in Wisconsin during the 1800s. She shares stories of the women who harvested the hops, what was involved in the hop bust, and other accounts from old diaries.
