News: There is a lot going on at the Disneyland Resort if recent permits are any indication. The biggest change will be new entrance turnstiles at both parks listed as “automatic guest entry gates, fixed manual gates, removable railings and new overhead shrouds.” These could be similar to the ones in Disneyland Paris. This new pass will allow you to visit whichever Disney water park is open (note: their release says water parks -- plural -- but we all know that's not the case anymore) as often as you like until May 24, 2024. The cost is $79 plus tax. So, if you enjoy visiting a water park in the cooler winter months, then this may be something to consider.The seasonal pass has no block out dates and no reservations are required. Disney's latest update to Genie+ isn't really big news, but it is a welcome enhancement that may signal more things to come. The good and the bad of this update for the Disney traveler, plus Rogers: The Musical top tips and more Disney travel news. Update to Disney Genie+ Service at Walt Disney WorldIn a first baby step towards making Disney Genie+ a little more flexible, you will now have the option to purchase Genie+ for a single-park option or a new multiple-parks option. With this addition prices may be lower at some parks compared to others. Nothing else has changed. What we're all really waiting for is the ability to be able to make Genie+ reservations before the day of your visit. So while this is a welcome change, it is nothing more than a baby step with the hopes of truly bigger news still to come.--How to Increase Your Odds of Seeing ‘Rogers: The Musical' at Disney California Adventure ParkRogers: The Musical kicks off this week at Disney California Adventure Park and runs until August 31. With that in mind, here is the most important news you need to know as a Disney traveler.Joining the free virtual queue on the Disneyland app is recommendedRogers: The Musical will have several shows daily, Tuesday through Saturday most weeks during its limited-time run. You can gain access to the viewing areas for the show through a virtual queue system available only through the Disneyland app.Each performance day, distribution for the complimentary virtual queue will start at 10:30 a.m. PT for the first two shows of the day and it will reopen at 2:00 p.m. PT for the remaining shows each day.The virtual queue isn't mandatory, but it's highly recommended. If the virtual queue is full, you can check in at the Hyperion Theater before Rogers: The Musical begins to check for any walk-up viewing options.Dining Package for Rogers: The MusicalInstead of going the virtual queue route, you can try to buy a “Rogers: The Musical” Premium Viewing Experience package for $29 per person from the Studio Catering Co. New photo session options with Capture Your Moment in Magic Kingdom Park; is it worth it? Plus, the first news about the 2023 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival; an update coming for Star Tours; Rogers the Musical is happening; and an update on Tiana's Bayou Adventure.EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival Kicks off on July 27The 2023 edition will run from July 27 through November 18. Now they've added a new Capture Your Moment experience in Fantasyland, starting on May 1.New locations include the back of Cinderella Castle, Prince Charming Regal Carousel, Rapunzel's tower, Prince Eric's castle, Storybook Circus, Belle and Maurice's cottage, outside of Beast's castle, around Mad Tea Party and more. Entrance to the rides or attractions in any of these locations is not part of the photo service. You are guaranteed one photo location per session, but if you act quickly, it is possible to visit a few locations to take photos within your time slot. Check-in for this experience is at Sir Mickey's (just behind Cinderella Castle) where a photographer will help you choose a photo prop and the location(s) you want to use. Disney also noted you may even be able to visit a location beyond Fantasyland to capture photos, such as the Haunted Mansion or other spots in Liberty Square. Ask your photographer about available options and how long they'd have to capture photos at these locations.Each Capture Your Moment session is $99.00 and can include a maximum of eight guests. Photos are not included in the price of a session. Disney has now officially announced that a real-life one-act musical theater production of “Rogers: The Musical” will hit the stage at the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure Park for a limited-time engagement, starting June 30, 2023. The production features a cast of singers and dancers telling the story of Steve Rogers joined by Peggy Carter, Nick Fury and select members of the Avengers. The musical will take us on a journey from Steve's humble beginnings during World War II to becoming Captain America, leading the Avengers and beyond. Music will include “Save the City,” from the Disney+ series “Hawkeye”; “Star Spangled Man” from the film “Captain America: The First Avenger”; plus, five new original songs written just for “Rogers: The Musical” at the Disneyland Resort.“Rogers: The Musical” is a 30 minute show that will take place from Tuesday through Saturday most weeks. More details as the date draws closer.--Mama Odie to Make a Big Appearance in Tiana's Bayou AdventureNew ride renderings released by Disney show Mama Odie joking with guests along the journey after a special display of her magic. The two-hundred-year-old Bayou Fairy Godmother, with her eccentric belongings and “seeing eye snake” Juju, is comically eccentric (yet wise and all-knowing) throughout the adventure. Actress Jenifer Lewis, who voiced Mama Odie in “The Princess and the Frog,” is returning to her role for the attraction. To make room for this new magic, Splash Mountain at Disneyland park will be closed starting May 31, 2023, so we can begin the next phase of development for Tiana's Bayou Adventure.--Star Tours Sets Course for New Adventures in 2024In 2024, Disney will (finally) be adding more stories and characters to Star Tours at both Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland Park in California. We're hopeful that means it's in the pipeline to be a full-blown musical in a few years. We went to the Disney 100 The Exhibition grand opening at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, so we figured this week we'd give you the rundown of what's in it and our experience. Journey through the various galleries with us and hear what Disney memorabilia is contained within the exhibition. Hear our highlights, which includes the the original Matterhorn ride vehicle, the Nautilus used in Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Porgs so real you'll want to sneak them into a natural history museum. After months of speculation, the treehouse will be home to a new family and pay tribute to the original 1962 attraction, the Swiss Family Robinson. Disneyland Adventureland Treehouse will Return with a New Look in 2023There are more details about the future of the treehouse in Adventureland at Disneyland park.When it reopens in 2023 the Adventureland Treehouse will be themed after Walt Disney's Swiss Family Robinson tree house--just as it is in Walt Disney World. This is likely because Disney is working on a remake of the 1960 movie as a new Swiss Family series on Disney+.The renewed treehouse will have new environments created among the branches of the giant tree on the shores of the Jungle River. From the mother's music den to the young sons' nature room to the teenage daughter's astronomer's loft, everything is created from found objects, natural resources, and pure ingenuity (just like the Disney fairies do). During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference this week, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Walt Disney Company Christine McCarthy said they should be returning “soon.” She pointed to the decline in Covid cases as a good indicator of the safety of the meet and greets. News: With June 15th quickly approaching, there are a lot of changes to be aware of with California Theme Parks with the expiration of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. On June 15th, out of state guests will be allowed at theme parks, vaccine verification will be required, park capacity will not be restricted by the state, this includes shops and restaurants, physical distancing will not be required, indoor shows and queuing can return, masks will still be required indoors and outdoors for theme parks. Chelsea Emma Franko’s journey up the North Mountain wasn’t all ice palaces and sparkly dresses. In fact, she began auditioning for Disney Parks and Live Entertainment at the age of eighteen and kept at it for years before ever landing a job with the company. But when she was finally #BookedAndBlessed, it was in a way that would change her career forever.  Chelsea landed the role of Elsa in the world-premiere cast of Frozen, Live at The Hyperion. The show opened in 2016 at Disney California Adventure, replacing the guest and cast favorite Aladdin, A Musical Spectacular which ran for an incredible thirteen years. Not only was there pressure on the whole team for the show to succeed, but conquering the role of Elsa left Chelsea with some pretty big ice shoes to fill . . . and cape, and gown, and reveal gown, and gloves, and tiara . . . But when the show opened, it opened with a bang! The 2200-seat Hyperion Theater was filled with guests who loved the production; a show which regularly hosted celebrity backstage meet-and-greets of stars clambering to get a warm hug from Olaf himself. So when the news came in March 2020 that the Disneyland Resort would be closing indefinitely, and later that year with the announcement that Frozen would be closing permanently because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, many were shocked. After technical difficulties and busy travel schedules squashed last week's show, Tim and Anthony are back for another go-round Inside The Mouse Castle.   We start off with Tim's review of Walt Disney, the new American Experience documentary airing this week on PBS. It's an earnest, if somewhat biased, depiction of Walt's life that plays up the darker elements of his personality and career. Fans will appreciate the rare photographs and archival footage, while Disney history buffs will question how the film presents Walt's relationship with his father, his actions during the 1941 studio strike and the assorted psychobabble spouted by some of the "experts" who try to crawl inside Walt's head.   Here's what else we have in this week's episode: A live action Frozen stage show will replace the long-running Disney's Aladdin--A Musical Spectacular production in the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure...and the Internet loses its mind. We now know for certain that Disneyland and Walt Disney World will break ground on their Star Wars-Land expansions next year. That means the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, the popular holiday light show at Disney's Hollywood Studios will blink out after this year. Director Brad Bird has let it be known that work on Incredibles 2 is moving along briskly, so well that it will likely be released before the other Pixar sequel, Cars 3. That still means it probably won't be out until 2018, but any news about The Incredibles is good news. Disney Infinity 3.0 will be available on Apple TV after the streaming service undergoes an extensive update in October. Some participants in this month's Disneyland Half-Marathon complained of incorrect corral assignments, suggesting there are proof-of-time security issues with RunDisney and TrackShack. The Summer of 2015 has transitioned Disney’s Hollywood Studios into “Frozen Summer Fun”. With special events throughout the park the “Frozen” summer includes: The Royal Welcome Parade, Olaf’s Summer Cool down Stage Show, a Frozen Dance Party and Nightly “Frozen” Fireworks. The First Time in Forever Sing-a-long has moved to the new Hyperion Theater, The Screen is amazing and the show is still a must do for anyone with children looking to sing as loud as they can! The screen combined with special effects make for a long lasting childhood memory. It’s well worth a Fast Pass if it’s a must do on your list. In this episode Matt and Nate revisit their Tomorrowland 1994 RetroMagic series by visiting one of everyones favorite attractions at Walt Disney World, the ever popular Tomorrowland Transit Authority.  As Nate says, "Its hard to pinpoint why this attraction is so popular; It isn't exciting, There arent any audio-animatronics, and there are no real special effects.  However, it is nostalgic, its easy so the whole family can ride it and theres hardly ever a line."  For the first ten years the WEDway Peoplemover was basically a tour of Tomorrowland voiced by the legendary Jack Wagner.  Then in 1986 the attraction changed to a commuter computer and the focus changed from a tour to focus more on the linear induction motor.  In 1994 the attraction changed again with the Tomorrowland refurbishment and the ride turned into an attraction that had depth and a story and seemed like so much more than a tour.  In 2009 the attraction changed back to more of a tour of the area and less a part of a sytem of transit throughout a fantasy world of tomorrow.  Theres just something about the TTA that makes us all feel a little closer to Walt Disney himself.  This may be the best podcast ever produced.  We added that last line just so it would appear in Mush's Blog.  In the news this week we discuss the new walkway being built to connect the once temporary Bugs Land at DCA to the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.  Also the closing of the Aladdin Show at the Hyperion Theater is discussed.
