UCONN vs. Maryland College Football Pick Prediction 8/31/2024 by Tony T. UCONN at Maryland—Connecticut comes off a 3-9 season in 2023. Head coach Jim Mora is in his third season with the program that returns five on offense and eight to the defense. The offensive performance was poor in 2023 as the Huskies produced 18 points per game and were 101st on third down. Inaccurate quarterback play coupled with a mediocre rushing attack. Defensively they held opponents to 32.3 points per game with struggles defending the pass. Senior quarterback Joseph Fagnano will start. A transfer from Maine who put up respectable numbers in his final two seasons there. Mike Locksley is back for his sixth season as head coach after his 8-5 mark last year. They return only four on offense with eight to the defense. The team struggled to generate a round game and produced 29 points per game sitting 51st. Defensively they held opponents to 23.8 points per game doing a great job stopping the run and holding opposing quarterbacks to 57.4% completions. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa must be replaced. NC State transfer MJ Morris is expected to start. He played in four games with the Wolfpack last season completing 55.8% of his passes with only 6.4 yards per pass attempt with no running ability.
With the 2023 season in the books, it is time to put each individual pillar of the Miami Dolphins organization under the microscope. What were the wins and losses of each major contributor in the past calendar year? The Miami Dolphins ended the year with a 1-3 record and averaged 15.5 points per game over the season's final four games. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the league in passing yards and had the team primed for a home playoff game, but he was also at the center of Miami's late-season collapse. Miami was held scoreless in the second half of Week 18's loss to the Buffalo Bills before scoring just seven points against the Kansas City Chiefs — something needs to change on offense. From trends and statistics to salary cap ramifications, we project what Miami's quarterback room could look like to begin the 2024 season. The Miami Dolphins held a three-game lead in the AFC East with five games left in the regular season. The Dolphins could've — and probably should've — hosted a playoff game at Hard Rock Stadium. Instead, Miami ended the season with just seven points in a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium — the final of a three-game losing streak to close the year. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was nowhere to be found when he was needed the most — Miami's offense could only score seven points with the season on the line after the Buffalo Bills held them scoreless in the second half of Week 18's loss. It's a tough time to be a fan of the Dolphins, but that's nothing new for anyone who's supported the team in aqua and orange. Miami's offense did enough to win on Sunday but struggled in the red zone, converting a touchdown on just one of four trips down the field. The Dolphins have leaned on kicker Jason Sanders more of late, but it's important to keep in mind that Miami has continued to find the end zone — in most games. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa found Raheem Mostert for a touchdown, but the Dolphins won the game by running the football. Jeff Wilson Jr. stamped this game with an early third-down reception and did most of the heavy lifting during the game-sealing drive. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle connected for 142 yards and a touchdown as Miami completed its season sweep of the Jets despite Tyreek Hill being inactive with an ankle injury. Seeing Waddle run wild as WR1 brought back memories of 2021 — when Durham Smythe would be second on the team with four receptions for 32 yards... wait, that was Sunday. Miami's offense has now scored 30 points in three of the last four games and seems to be hitting its stride with just three games left until the playoffs begin. Sunday's win was exactly what we needed to see from the offense following last week's collapse to the Titans. The Dallas Cowboys scored four touchdowns against the Washington Commanders last week. Coach Ron Rivera is now calling the shots on defense after firing defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who led a unit that's given up at least 29 points in each of the last four games. Opposing wide receivers have a 114 rating when playing the Commanders and the Dolphins have scored 15 touchdowns from outside of the red zone through 11 games. Miami's high-flying offense should feast against the defense that struggles to disrupt opposing game plans. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Miami's high-flying offense land at Hard Rock Stadium to play the Las Vegas Raiders after a bye in Week 10. The offense struggled in two of the last three games before the break, how will the unit bounce back? It seemed like Miami struggled with crowd noise, especially on the road. The Dolphins could use a few 'easy button' plays while in a pinch and the bye week could've been a good time to find them. The Miami Dolphins swept the season series against the New England Patriots with Sunday's 31-17 win at Hard Rock Stadium. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 30 of 45 pass attempts for 324 yards and three touchdowns, improving to 6-0 in his career against Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Tagovailoa connected with Tyreek Hill for 112 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions while Jaylen Waddle added another 121 yards on seven receptions. The Dolphins struggled to run the football, but Tagovailoa and the passing attack did more than enough to move the offense up and down the field in the 14-point win over division rivals. The Miami Dolphins return home and will wear the throwback uniforms on Sunday as they host the New England Patriots in the second half of a home-and-home series between AFC East rivals. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is undefeated against the Patriots, but can Miami keep that streak alive when considering the growing number of injuries the team is forced to overcome? Will the Dolphins pursue free agents to help fill the void or look at in-house solutions due to limited salary cap space? Editors note: More information has come out since this podcast, and Hill's status for Sunday's game does seem in doubt. The Carolina Panthers jumped out to an early 14-point lead, but in the end, Mike McDaniel's team proved too strong for the rebuilding Panthers. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 21 of 31 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns as he found Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle for touchdowns. Raheem Mostert continued his impressive 2023 campaign, carrying the ball 17 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass, bringing his season total to 10 touchdowns. But most impressive of all was how well Miami's offensive line held up -- specifically Liam Eichenberg -- in Miami's 21-point win. Defensively, there's still a lot to be desired. But several of Miami's playmakers stepped up. Christian Wilkins recorded two sacks, and Bradley Chubb was all over rookie quarterback Bryce Young. It wasn't a perfect showing, but Miami's defense continues to get better and have to if they want to hang with the Philadelphia Eagles' explosive offense. The New York Giants forced the Miami Dolphins into three turnovers yesterday but couldn't parlay them into a win Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, but it wasn't enough to derail an offense that scored on two separate three-play drives. Coach Mike McDaniel continues to flash his background as a run game coordinator as De'Von Achane ran for 151 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. In comparison, Raheem Mostert added another 65 yards and another touchdown. Overall, the Dolphins averaged 9.7 yards on the ground and improved to 2-0 at home with a 15-point win over the Giants. De'Von Achane ran for 150 yards and a touchdown as the Miami Dolphins flew past the New York Giants and improved to 4-1 on the year with a 31-16 win at Hard Rock Stadium. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for two interceptions as the Dolphins scored more than 30 points for the third time this season. Miami's offense turned the ball over three times, but the defense was the story against the Giants. Zach Sieler and Miami's pass rush had 14 quarterback hits and seven sacks as New York's offense failed to score a touchdown. Daniel Jones completed 14 of 20 attempts for just 119 yards. While the Giants didn't turn the ball over, the Dolphins won the game at the line of scrimmage with eight tackles for a loss. The Miami Dolphins return home on Sunday to host the New York Giants after falling 48-20 in Buffalo last weekend. The Giants have lost back-to-back games, and quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked nine times last week and has been sacked at least seven times twice this season — making Week 5's matchup an opportunity to get back on track after a couple of bumpy performances on the road. Offensively, De'Von Achane continues to be the center of attention after needing just two weeks to rush for 300 yards. He leads the league in yards after contact — another layer to Miami's high-powered offensive attack. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sacked four times last week. Will Miami's offense settle in or continue falling down the charts? In a shocking twist, the Dolphins decided to trade for Chase Claypool. Tune in for instant reaction and the lastest news ahead of the Week 5 matchup. Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). The Miami Dolphins averaged 10 yards per play against the Denver Broncos last week, but we're officially on to Buffalo. Week 3's results no longer matter, but everyone is wondering if Miami's offense can lead the franchise to its first win in Buffalo since 2016. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been unstoppable through three games and has only been sacked once — can the Dolphins continue their success against one of the NFL's toughest defenses? Keep in mind, Jaylen Waddle is set to return to action after missing last week's game. Fans were speechless leaving Miami's home opener on Sunday as the Dolphins demolished the Denver Broncos 70-20 in an offensive showing that hasn't been matched in half a century. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa connected with Tyreek Hill on a long shot down the field for the first of Miami's ten touchdowns. Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane stole the show, combining for eight touchdowns. Mike While and Robbie Chosen got into the action late with a 68-touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins were unstoppable — without wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Winning by 50 points is a full-team effort. Sunday was no different as Miami's defense forced three turnovers and hit Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson 12 times as Mike McDaniel improved to 7-1 in September. Sports Kings Show iHeartRadio NFL Weekly Countdown Show (Week 2) Friday September 15, 2023 MeanGene and Dustin Phifer The MIAMI DOLPHINS totaled 536 yards of offense in their Kickoff Weekend victory over the Chargers, the most offensive yards by any team in a Week 1 game since Baltimore in 2019. Quarterback TUA TAGOVAILOA recorded 466 passing yards and three touchdown passes in last week's victory – the fourth-most passing yards in a season-opening game in NFL history – and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week. When ANTHONY RICHARDSON and the Colts travel to face C.J. STROUD and the Texans, it will mark the second game in NFL history featuring two starting quarterbacks both under the age of 22. Each quarterback is currently 21 years old. Los Angeles Rams rookie wide receiver PUKA NACUA, a fifth-round selection in the 2023 Draft, recorded 10 receptions for 119 yards in the team's Week 1 victory, becoming the fifth player in NFL history to record at least 10 receptions in his NFL debut. San Francisco 49ers quarterback BROCK PURDY became the team's starter in Week 14 of last season and has not looked back. After leading the 49ers to victory in each of their final five regular-season games in 2022, Purdy recorded 220 passing yards, two touchdown passes and no interceptions for a 111.3 rating in San Francisco's victory over Pittsburgh last week. It marked his sixth consecutive regular-season start with at least two touchdown passes and a passer rating of 95-or-higher. follow the Sports Kings on X formally known as Twitter @sportskings
The Miami Dolphins are halfway through a two-game road trip to begin the 2023 NFL season, and next up is a divisional battle with the New England Patriots. Two road wins against AFC opponents could help the Dolphins create some early-season separation in the standings. Nothing is ever that simple when coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots are involved. However, this isn't your parent's Patriots team led by Tom Brady and Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is undefeated when facing New England. After throwing for more than 400 yards last week, will coach Mike McDaniel decide to take to the air or lean more on Raheem Mostert and the rushing attack? Teams expect to be healthy early in the season, but that's not the case for the Patriots. Two of the team's linemen missed two days of practice with a concussion, and cornerback Jonathan Jones, who was not on the injury report Wednesday, was not seen at training on Friday. While coach McDaniel said he wants to run the football more, it could be bombs away against a weakened New England secondary. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins offense scored 36 points over the weekend and we take a look at how they toppled the Los Angeles Chargers. Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack were virtually invisible, did Austin Jackson figure something out this offseason, or was the line's success built by the scheme? On the defensive side of the football, Jevon Holland was on the field for 80 days and was a consistent presence at safety for the Dolphins. We also take a look at Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and the team's pass rush — will this group actually live up to expectations? Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw an interception to begin Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans but the fourth-year quarterback had a strong performance overall in his first live action since Dec. 25, 2022. Houston's Denzel Perryman intercepted Tagovailoa, who finished the day 5-7 for 61 yards. The former Alabama standout quarterback looked comfortable during a 93-yard drive that closed with a touchdown from Raheem Mostert. Coach Mike McDaniel was determined to run the football and closed the game with 205 rushing yards. That said, the Dolphins saw some good things from Tagovailoa and second-year player Skylar Thompson. Was this officially Miami's dress rehearsal or could we see Tagovailoa on the field next week? Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage — not much else went wrong in a big 28-3 win over the Houston Texans on Saturday. The offense ran for over 200 yards while the defense held Houston to just 32 yards on the ground — tune in for 10 things we learned from Miami's win in Week 2 of the preseason. Was Tua Tagovailoa HIM(self)? Did anyone forget Mike McDaniel was a run-game coordinator? Is Chris Brooks the new Jonas Gray? Who will earn the No. 3 wide receiver job? Did anyone claim the left guard spot? Does rookie tight end Julian Hill have a shot to make the Dolphins? Just how good is Vic Fangio's defense? Was David Long Jr. a 'hit' in his first action? Did Channing Tindall have another strong day? What's the plan at cornerback? Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). In Hour Tua we hear from our favorite adorable Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as he addressed the media yesterday and may or may have not thrown a subliminal shot at his former head coach Brian Flores. We hear more from him as he denies being a savior of the team and promises to trust his playmakers. Tobin gives us a Dolphins injury report as we reflect on the amount of players dinged up on the field. This leads to a deeper conversation on the everchanging concussion protocol and a Damage is Done moment involving this Patriots media member.

Although both mostly answered questions owing the company line, there were moments of honesty which revealed a lot about the mindset of the organization. On this week's Memes of the Weekend, Super Bowl week gets slightly hijacked by the possibility of James Harden leaving the Nets for the 76ers in the NBA, if not by Thursday than during the offseason. We also laugh at Doug Pederson going to spend 2 years failing w/ the Jaguars, unless Trevor Lawrence carries his sorry ass to respectability. Also, Mike McDaniel got hired as the Dolphins "Plan C" coach, to play with their "Plan C" Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and their "Plan C" Wide Reciever Jaylen Waddle.
