We're thrilled to bring you an in-depth conversation with Alex Martel from the Montreal-based rock/metal powerhouse Deadly Apples!
Deadly Apples, the Montreal-based rock/metal powerhouse, have released their highly anticipated new single, "Volatile," now available on all major streaming platforms. Renowned for their electrifying performances, the band delivers a monumental track that features guest appearances by Richard Patrick of Filter and Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails.first single from the band's upcoming album, DISTRESS, slated for release this summer."Volatile" is a testament to the band's dedication to working with some of the most respected names in rock and metal. Frontman / lyricist Alex Martel and drummer / composer Antoine Lamothe – has forged a reputation for its fierce, unpredictable, and high energy live performances often culminating with Martel diving – and drowning – into the crowd. As rock music – and society – has become increasingly safe and bland, the French-Canadian band has received praise for bringing back the danger and unpredictability to unsuspecting audiences. Interlaced with cinematic atmospheres, poignant melodies, singular screams, gritty analog synths, pummeling drum beats, abrasive guitars, delicate pianos and heartfelt lyrics, DISTRESS is a unique, relevant and modern take on a classic genre that they made their own. Send us a textMontreal's own Alex Martel, frontman of the high-energy rock/metal band Deadly Apples, recently made a appearance on the Vulgar Display of Podcast, offering an unfiltered look into the band's evolution, the making of their latest album DISTRESS, and the current state of rock music. Known for his unpredictable stage presence and raw vocal intensity, Martel did not hold back in a conversation that was as engaging as Deadly Apples' electrifying live performances.Throughout the discussion, Martel reflected on Deadly Apples' reputation for bringing danger and unpredictability back to rock music—a stark contrast to what he describes as an increasingly “safe and bland” scene. He shared stories from the band's intense live performances, which often see him diving into crowds and immersing himself completely in the energy of the audience.Martel delved deep into the creative process behind DISTRESS, Deadly Apples' latest full-length album. Produced by drummer and composer Antoine Lamothe, the album pushes the band's signature sound to its extremes—darker, heavier, yet more accessible than ever. With a lineup of rock heavyweights contributing to the project, including Nine Inch Nails alumni Danny Lohner and Filter's Richard Patrick, DISTRESS is already shaping up to be one of the band's most defining works.“Having guys like Richard Patrick and Danny Lohner involved was huge for us,” Martel said. “They bring an energy that aligns perfectly with our vision. This record is cinematic, chaotic, and deeply personal.”With Deadly Apples having toured alongside some of the biggest names in rock and metal—Rob Zombie, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, and Rammstein—Martel shared what it was like to be on the road with such legendary acts. He discussed the invaluable lessons learned and the stark differences in rock audiences across the globe, from the wild crowds in South America to the passionate fans in Japan and Europe. As DISTRESS gears up for its highly anticipated release, Martel teased upcoming tour plans, more collaborations, and an explosive new music video for their latest single, “Volatile.” With their signature unpredictability, fans can expect nothing short of chaos and intensity. For those who missed Alex Martel's appearance on the Vulgar Display of Podcast, the episode is now available on all major streaming platforms. If his interview was any indication, Deadly Apples is ready to make a major impact once again—louder, darker, and more volatile than ever.http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Back again with another banger of a episode. This one takes us to Mississippi and we get deep in the deep Old Soul of distilling and music. It was such a great episode. I really hope you enjoy it. badmotivatorbarrels.com/shop/?aff=3 https://www.instagram.com/zsmithwhiskeyandmixology?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw== Hinterhausdistilling.com Texaswhiskeyfestival.com Patreon.com/the_whiskeyshaman Our History The first legal distillery in the state of Mississippi, Cathead was founded in 2010 by friends and blues fans, Austin Evans and Richard Patrick. Located in the heart of downtown Jackson, the distillery currently produces eight award-winning, small-batch spirits—Cathead Original Vodka, Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, Cathead Satsuma Mandarin Vodka, Cathead Raspberry Vodka, Bristow Gin, Hoodoo Chicory Liquor, and Old Soul Bourbon Whiskey—as well as a line of canned cocktails, Cathead Sparkling. Cathead Distillery was named a 2020 James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Spirits Producer and is celebrated for its authentic products and a strong commitment to their community. What's a Cathead? The term “Cathead” is a compliment in Mississippi, first coined back in the day by blues musicians as a nod to artists they respect. Mississippi artists and musicians went on to use “Catheads” in many forms of folk art, as a way to pay the rent and share their legacies. Mississippi repealed prohibition in 1966, the last state to do so. Forty four years later, lifelong friends and blues fans founded Cathead Distillery. Cathead is proud to be the first and oldest distillery in the state of Mississippi. Respect Our Community Mississippi is the proud state where blues music began, a genre that has deeply influenced all forms of American music. We work hard to bring honor to the meaning of Cathead through our philanthropic support of live music and artisans alike. Cathead also donates a portion of proceeds to nonprofits that contribute to the region's abundant arts and culture. Cathead Distillery is an event-driven facility and a place for both locals and tourists to enjoy spirits tastings, live music, community, and a cold beer. Had some technical difficulties with this one...and we are a little late getting it out. One of the best Hard Rock bands to come out of the 90s is and was FILTER. Richard Patrick is the founder of Filter. Well, he really IS Filter. In August Bob had the pleasure of talking to Richard about his days in Nine Inch Nails, the new Filter album "The Algorithm", his sobriety and of course how does it feel to write a song like "Take a Picture" and see it grow and grow and grow
Richard Patrick and Jonny Radtke of Filter talked with Car Con Carne before the Tinley Park date of the “Freaks on Parade” tour (Rob Zombie / Alice Cooper / Ministry / Filter). The conversation happened weeks after the release of the new Filter album, “The Algorithm,” a high water mark for a band with an already-strong catalog and history. Covered in this episode: * The tour (“no stinkers in the bunch”) * Richard's reconciliation with Trent Reznor, and the subsequent good vibes * “The Algorithm” - The songs, and the stories behind their creation. * Sharing personal and political thoughts in song: Does Richard ever think he should be more abstract? * The unlikely music discovery Richard made that led to cool sounds and moments on “The Algorithm.” * The perils and legit horrors attached to celebrity. Perseverance could be Richard Patrick's mantra. Navigating his band Filter for 30 years, through the ups and downs, fads, cultural moments, and tastes, can't be easy, but he's done it by staying true to himself. They just released their 8th album, The Algorithm last week and it's one of their strongest yet. Richard gets intensely personal here discussing his appearance in the popular Hired Gun documentary, leaving Nine Inch Nails to go out on his own but eventually reuniting with Trent Reznor, the current state of the country and some of his fan's views of his politics, parenting teenagers, his current Freaks on Parade tour, and a ton more. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how great this is. Enjoy! www.officialfilter.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

Richard Patrick of Filter took some time out of his schedule to talk about what's going on in his world. Many people may not know this, but the first Filter album was mixed right here in Canton, Michigan, at Pearl Studio. Richard reminded me that he moved from Michigan when he was six or seven to Cleveland, Ohio. As for the new album, The Algorithm drops on August 25th, next Friday as I record this. He talks about why it's taken so long to come out. He started this album about five or six years ago. "I think, people are going to like the heaviness." of the new album. He said it harkens back to the first three albums. Once again he recorded most of the material on his own. He also told me why they went with real drums, as opposed to programmed drum tracks. He also spoke to the point of how he is "The King of my World" in his band. He said he's "free" to work with anyone he wants to. He said Filter's the Richard Patrick show without the band title. Richard opened up about his departure from Nine Inch Nails and the formation of Filter. He talked about being told to deliver pizzas to make more money, while N.I.N. was really going strong. "I was floored. They didn't know it but I was talking to Warner Bros. I had a demo of "Hey Man, Nice Shot, and Warner Bros is like "We'll sing you right now!"" He was entrenched in the band at the time, heavily. He said he'd contemplated doing both N.I.N and Filter, but that wasn't going to work. He said it's all water under the bridge, and he's totally happy with where life has taken him. As far as reuniting with Trent Reznor, "It was absolutely amazing!" He was really happy to talk about that show last year in Ohio. So cool! "I just really, really had the best time ever." The Freaks On Parade tour with Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, Ministry and Filter kicks off on August 24th. "It's going to be a huge tour...it's going to be insane!" He told me about the huge impact Ministry played in his life. It was significant, to say the least. That's a great story. Oh, I had to ask him about his relationship with his brother, actor Robert Patrick. He said the bicker back and forth, but "Ultimately I love him and I wish him well." What a great conversation with Richard! -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

We're joined by Grammy winner Robert De Leo, who is best known for his work in Stone Temple Pilots. Collaborating with lyricist and vocalist Scott Weiland, Robert wrote or co-wrote the music for many of the group's classic songs, including “Plush,” “Creep,” “Wicked Garden,” “Vaseline,” “Interstate Love Song,” “Big Bang Baby,” “Down,” “Hollywood Bitch,” and “Between the Lines.” Outside of their music in Stone Temple Pilots, Robert and his brother Dean have also written and recorded songs for their band Talk Show, as well as Army of Anyone, which is a collaboration with Filter frontman Richard Patrick. Since the death of Weiland and subsequent lead singer Chester Bennington, the De Leo brothers and drummer Eric Kretz continue to make music as Stone Temple Pilots with current vocalist Jeff Gutt. Most recently, Robert has released his debut solo album, Lessons Learned, a deeply personal collection of original songs. Featuring a handful of guest singers, it's a different sound than listeners might expect from De Leo, exploring the the vibes of Laurel Canyon, Americana, roots music, and a healthy dose of one of Robert's musical heroes, Glen Campbell. In this episode you'll hear a lot of great new music and gain a deeper appreciation for some of the amazing Stone Temple Pilots catalog as Robert grabs his guitar and breaks down some of those classics in mind-blowing depth. This is one of our favorite Songcraft conversations, and you definitely won't want to miss it.
Sophomore albums can be a difficult proposition. The standard refrain is you get a lifetime to make the first one and a few months to make the follow-up. In the case of Filter, it took a little longer, four years to be exact. Title of Record came out in 1999 in a much different musical landscape than their 1995 debut Short Bus. Luckily, their hard rock sound, with a touch of industrial, fit in well with the end of the decade, and they struck literal gold with the atypical single "Take A Picture." Even with an entirely new backing band and the loss of his songwriting counterpart, Richard Patrick separated himself further from the Nine Inch Nails comparisons by embracing a big rock sound with a few interesting diversions. We sat down with Richard Patrick, the co-founder of Mississippi's oldest legal distillery. There are two facts you may find surprising about Mississippi. One, the state didn't repeal prohibition fully until 1966. And two, Mississippi didn't get their first legal distillery until 2010. That's the year Richard Patrick and Austin Evans opened the doors of Cathead Distillery and introduced people to their first spirit: the flagship Cathead Vodka. On this episode we dive into Mississippians' reactions to finally having a legal distillery in the state, how Cathead approaches growth and philanthropy, and some of the spirits the distillery produces. One of those spirits is 2022 Old Soul Bourbon Single Barrel, characterized by cherry, vanilla and maple syrup on the nose; vanilla, hazelnut, and leather on the palate; and a finish of dark chocolate and toffee. You'll also learn more about Cathead Vodka, Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, Bristow Gin, and more. Be sure to check out the Cathead Distillery website and connect with the brand on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. This week we're touching on a VHS classic that was a staple of one of the hosts' movie-watching days, but not so much for the other. And that's not unexpected, because this movie was branded a failure pretty much from its inception. Yet even massive studio intervention and an astronomically high budget due to its star can't fully tank this movie, because the concept, the directing, and the performances are still too fun to ignore. And as iconic as his previous films had been, Jim Carrey's doing some of his best comedic work in this movie because he gets to also be a little terrifying. This is one of those movies that everyone tells you to see, and yet so many people probably haven't seen it. But wow, was it worth the wait. The maestro of crime dramas, Michael Mann, took nearly 15 years to make his magnum opus, and he barely missed. In fact, our biggest complaint about this movie is that we wanted more, more than the 2 hours and 50 minutes of run time to be able to explore even more of the characters and world Mann created. And if that's not enough, this film dared to pit two modern legends in opposing roles, and did so with deftness, thoughtfulness, and subtlety - something that can be harder to come by in other Pacino and DeNiro movies.
