Chelsea Poppens, Chief Operating Officer at DayCloud Studios, joins the show to talk about the fun, family-friendly Halloween classic, Disney's Hocus Pocus. We root for sister and brother Dani and Max, with Allison, who battle the Sandersons! But don't take the movie too seriously, enjoy it for what it is, appreciate the nostalgia, and take in all the nifty practical effects from the glory days before computers became the norm for post-production. In addition to Hocus Pocus, we touch on Hocus Pocus 2, and Chelsea shares stories from not only the design-side of her daily routines, but also talks about how she makes time for herself. As a former WNBA/Pro/ISU athlete, she opens up about being a fish out of water, traveling for games. What's the best way to travel? By plane, train, automobile, broom, vacuum cleaner, or Swiffer? Choosing might be easier than you think. Also! Be sure to follow Chelsea at the podcasts Champion This and Agency Rocket Show.

The military lifestyle's stress is hard enough on marriage, but what happens when you add a medical diagnosis? A child in need of extra care?  In this episode, we explore Aaron and Monica Harding's story of finding help for their son, themselves, and their marriage.   The Harding's son Jackson (17) was diagnosed with SynGAP in 2015, at age 10. Today, with children aged 24, 21 and 17, his wife, Monica, is now just learning how to take time away. And, according to Aaron, “that's only because we started family therapy ~2 years ago.” Children living with SynGAP live with symptoms that include: autism / intellectual disabilities / sleep issues / behavior issues / seizures (sometimes a hundred a day) / delayed fine motor and language skills. Today, there is no cure, only medications that treat individual symptoms. Each case is different and brings its own unique challenges. For families like the Sandersons and the Hardings, those challenges are even more acute as they navigate the complexities of military life. Sign up for my monthly newsletter here! SISTAAAAAS! Grab your Roombas, we fly! This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with one of the stars of HBO Max's FBOY Island Season 2, Mia Emani Jones (@_miaemani), to talk about Hocus Pocus 2 for a very special Halloween episode. We were lucky to be Mia's first interview post coming out, so we spent some time talking about her journey. FBOY Island is a wild place to be while experiencing that ‘I really don't like men' revelation and yet, it is somewhat shocking that more contestants haven't come out as gay. If anything was going to put someone off men, it would be FBOY Island. We could spend hours talking to Mia about her journey, but we are here to talk about Hocus Pocus 2! It has been 29 years since the Sanderson Sisters blessed our screens and yet there still aren't any canonically gay main characters! This feels like a huge missed opportunity, considering there already is a sequel to Hocus Pocus in book form that is 100% gay. Instead of giving us a story about Max and Allison's gay daughter like the book did, Hocus Pocus 2 goes in a different direction and brings in brand new characters not related to the original movie. From the second we meet Becca, Izzy, and Cassie it is extremely obvious that they are all baby gays. They are going through a difficult friend breakup, because Cassie decided to date some lame boy in a complete betrayal of her obvious throuple situation with Izzy and Becca. These girls have spent every Halloween night charging crystals in the woods and we are supposed to believe they are straight? Cassie has been attempting to mend the friendship, but Becca is too disgusted by the mere existence of Cassie's boyfriend to be anywhere near her. That's lesbian ex behavior and we are here for it. Moving on from the throuple, the movie opens onto Fear Street 3 where we see tiny baby dyke Winifred Sanderson absolutely losing her mind at the idea of being made to marry a man. She has a full blown meltdown, immediately bearding up by calling out her relationship with Billy Butcherson, who she literally only kissed once and who completely hates her guts. The girls run off into the woods to escape the heteronormative patriarchy and meet Mother Witch, who Winnie becomes instantly enamored with. The baby Sanderson Sisters spend a total of maybe ten minutes talking to this powerful lesbian milf in the woods and in true baby gay fashion decide they live there now and will be following in the hot older witch's footsteps. We fast forward to present day and meet Gilbert, a gay man obsessed with the Sanderson Sisters and intent on using Becca and her friends to bring them back to life. It's hard for Gilbert to see through the glamor and the intrigue of the witches, but in the end he does the right thing and chooses his new boyfriend Billy Butcherson over his love of the Sandersons. When we get into talking about the Sanderson Sisters themselves, the obvious gay is Winnie. While we may not be completely sure about the sexuality of Mary or Sarah, we are 1000% convinced that Winifred Sanderson is a whole dyke. She is extremely over the top 24/7, maintains her story about her beard Billy for centuries out of spite, dedicates her life to being a witch because a hot lady in the woods told her she was special, and cannot resist turning every scene she can into a musical number. Plus, as we've said countless times before, witches are inherently gay. It should be impossible for a movie like Hocus Pocus 2 to not be gay, because witchcraft is gay; and yet, Disney is determined to keep its witches in the broomcloset. We know one thing for sure, Hocus Pocus 2 Should've Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. Guests can recline into relaxation as the sauna helps boost circulation and metabolism while also removing toxins from the body. The sauna also effectively treats muscle stiffness and tension, including relief from backache, headache, and arthritis, by promoting the deep release of connective tissue and muscles. Thermal ExperiencesThe charcoal sauna is just one of eight thermal spa offerings available at the elevated Mandara Spa. Guests can also indulge in a series of blissful experiences such as a salt and steam room, as well as a gambit of Brand-first spa experiences including an Ice Room, Experiential Showers, a Flotation Salt Pool and Infrared Sauna. The Ice Room: After unwinding in the sauna or steam bath, guests can cool off in the refreshing Ice Room. The cold air helps to increase blood circulation, invigorate the respiratory tract, and strengthen the immune system.  The Experiential Showers: Multiple water jets and lighting effects help invigorate the body, lower body temperature, and stimulate blood circulation.Floatation Salt Pool: This treatment allows guests to fully relax all of their muscles while floating in warm water. An experience similar to experiencing zero gravity due to the buoyancy of the saltwater, the Floatation Salt Pool is beneficial for easing mental anxiety and muscle tension.  Infrared Sauna: Unlike traditional saunas that use conventional heat to warm the air, infrared saunas utilise infrared lamps to directly warm the body — and at lower temperatures than traditional saunas. We're diving into a childhood favourite and campy classic Hocus Pocus, from 1993. The devious Sanderson Sisters (a trio of witches, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi) return from the grave to continue their quest for immortality. The Sandersons were burnt at the stake in the 17th century because of their penchant for, ahem, sucking the lifeforce of children to remain forever young, beautiful and powerful. They come back from the grave in the 1990s, where a scrappy gang of kids, including a magical, talking cat, take it upon themselves to stop the coven. There's also a musical number because, you know, Bette Midler. In this episode, I welcome not one but two esteemed guests: film critic and broadcaster Tara Judah, and Thea Berry, Cinema Producer at the Watershed in Bristol and curator of the film season Reclaiming The Witch, which played at the Watershed last year. We talk about the terrifying make-up of the Sanderson sisters, the campiness versus the creepiness, how witches are  hate children, *that* musical number, and the things that terrified us about witches as children. *** To coincide with our season of films and events, Here Be Witches, we will be focusing this first series on exploring all things witchcraft on film. Each episode, we will dive deep into films and TV shows that we can't necessarily screen. Each episode, we'll be joined with special guests to dissect and discuss a film or show, its legacy and the way witches are represented.
